  • Using javascript, show a certain amount of divs based on an answer

    - by Adam
    I'm building a form that first asks if you have 'foo'. If the answer is 'Yes', a div appears and asks 'How many foo do you have'? Based on the quantity answered, I'd like to show only that many divs. Thus if the user answers 1, only the first div will show. If they answer three, the first three will show. I have it set so that if the user answers no, the question of the amount remains hidden, but if they answer yes, they would be prompted for the quantity. This is what I've got so far... <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(window).load(function() { $('#amt_of_foo,.foo_panels').hide(); }); $('#yes_foo').click(function() { $('#amt_of_foo').show(); }); $('#no_foo').click(function() { $('.foo_panels,#amt_of_foo').hide(); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <ul> <li> <div class="panel section_panel"> <h2>Questions About Your Foo</h2> <span>Do you have foo?:</span> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="no_foo" /> No <br /> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="yes_foo" /> Yes:</span></span> <span id="amt_of_foo"> <span>How many foo do you have?:</span> <span><input id="qty_of_foo" type="text" size="5" /> </span> </span> </div> </li> <!--answered yes to foo, and entered amount--> <div class="foo_panels"> <li> <li> <div class="panel foo_1"> <h1>First foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_2"> <h1>Second foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_3"> <h1>Third foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> </div> <!--answered no to foo--> <li> <div class="panel"> <h1>Next Question, if no foo</h1> </div> </li> </ul> The ul is used for a jQuery 'slider' plugin. the 'panel' class is used for global css.

  • Tool or library for end-users to run queries to select (not modify) data?

    - by Mark Rushakoff
    For a utility I'm working on, the client would like to be able to generate graphic reports on the data that has been collected. I can already generate a couple canned graphs (using ZedGraph, which is a very nice library); however, the utility would be much more flexible if the graphs were more programmable or configurable by the end-user. TLDR version I want users to be able to use something like SQL to safely extract and select data from a List of objects that I provide and can describe. What free tools or libraries will help me accomplish this? Full version I've given thought to using IronPython, IronRuby, and LuaInterface, but frankly they're all a bit overpowered for what I want to do. My classes are fairly simple, along the lines of: class Person: string Name; int HeightInCm; DateTime BirthDate; Weight[] WeighIns; class Weight: int WeightInKg; DateTime Date; Person Owner; (exact classes have been changed to protect the innocent). To come up with the data for the graph, the user will choose whether it's a bar graph, scatter plot, etc., and then to actually obtain the data, I would like to obtain some kind of List from the user simply entering something SQL-ish along the lines of SELECT Name, AVG(WeighIns) FROM People SELECT WeightInKg, Owner.HeightInCm FROM Weights And as a bonus, it would be nice if you could actually do operations as well: SELECT WeightInKg, (Date - Owner.BirthDate) AS Age FROM Weights The DSL doesn't have to be compliant SQL in any way; it doesn't even have to resemble SQL, but I can't think of a more efficient descriptive language for the task. I'm fine filling in blanks; I don't expect a library to do everything for me. What I would expect to exist (but haven't been able to find in any way, shape, or form) is something like Fluent NHibernate (which I am already using in the project) where I can declare a mapping, something like var personRequest = Request<Person>(); personRequest.Item("Name", (p => p.Name)); personRequest.Item("HeightInCm", (p => p.HeightInCm)); personRequest.Item("HeightInInches", (p => p.HeightInCm * CM_TO_INCHES)); // ... var weightRequest = Request<Weight>(); weightRequest.Item("Owner", (w => w.Owner), personRequest); // Indicate a chain to personRequest // ... var people = Table<Person>("People", GetPeopleFromDatabase()); var weights = Table<Weight>("Weights", GetWeightsFromDatabase()); // ... TryRunQuery(userInputQuery); LINQ is so close to what I want to do, but AFAIK there's no way to sandbox it. I don't want to expose any unnecessary functionality to the end user; meaning I don't want the user to be able to send in and process: from p in people select (p => { System.IO.File.Delete("C:\\something\\important"); return p.Name }) So does anyone know of any free .NET libraries that allow something like what I've described above? Or is there some way to sandbox LINQ? cs-script is close too, but it doesn't seem to offer sandboxing yet either. I'd be hesitant to expose the NHibernate interface either, as the user should have a read-only view of the data at this point in the usage. I'm using C# 3.5, and pure .NET solutions would be preferred. The bottom line is that I'm really trying to avoid writing my own parser for a subset of SQL that would only apply to this single project.

  • Adding Another Parameter to my Custom jQuery Gallery

    - by steve
    My website currently uses a custom jQuery gallery system that I've developed... it works well, but I want to add one capability that I can't seem to figure out. I want the user to, instead of having to click each thumbnail, also be able to click the full image itself to advance in the gallery. Working gallery is here: http://www.studioimbrue.com The code is as follows: $('.thumbscontainer ul li a').click(function() { var li_index = $(this).parents('ul').children('li').index($(this).parent("li"));    $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li').fadeOut(); $(this).parents('.thumbscontainer').parent().find('.captions ul li:eq('+li_index+')').fadeIn(); }); }); and the gallery HTML markup is as follows: <div class="container"> <div class="captions" id="usbdrive"> <ul> <li style="display:block"> <img src="images/portfolio/usbdrive/1.jpg" /> <div class="caption"> <span class='projecttitle'>Super Talent USB Drive Package.</span> A fancy, lavish package designed for Super Talent's specialty USB drive. • Split a Large File In C++

    - by wdow88
    Hey all, I'm trying to write a program that takes a large file (of any time) and splits it into many smaller "chunks". I think I have the basic idea down, but for some reason I cannot create a chunk size over 12,000 bites. I know there are a few solutions on google, etc. but I am more interested in learning what the origin of this limitation is then actually using the program to split files. //This file splits are larger into smaller files of a user inputted size. #include<iostream> #include<fstream> #include<string> #include<sstream> #include <direct.h> #include <stdlib.h> using namespace std; void GetCurrentPath(char* buffer) { _getcwd(buffer, _MAX_PATH); } int main() { // use the function to get the path char CurrentPath[_MAX_PATH]; GetCurrentPath(CurrentPath);//Get the current directory (used for displaying output) fstream bigFile; string filename; int partsize; cout << "Enter a file name: "; cin >> filename; //Recieve target file cout << "Enter the number of bites in each smaller file: "; cin >> partsize; //Recieve volume size bigFile.open(filename.c_str(),ios::in | ios::binary); bigFile.seekg(0, ios::end); // position get-ptr 0 bytes from end int size = bigFile.tellg(); // get-ptr position is now same as file size bigFile.seekg(0, ios::beg); // position get-ptr 0 bytes from beginning for (int i = 0; i <= (size / partsize); i++) { //Build File Name string partname = filename; //The original filename string charnum; //archive number stringstream out; //stringstream object out, used to build the archive name out << "." << i; charnum = out.str(); partname.append(charnum); //put the part name together //Write new file part fstream filePart; filePart.open(partname.c_str(),ios::out | ios::binary); //Open new file with the name built above //Check if near the end of file if (bigFile.tellg() < (size - (size%partsize))) { filePart.write(reinterpret_cast<char *>(&bigFile),partsize); //Write the selected amount to the file filePart.close(); //close file bigFile.seekg(partsize, ios::cur); //move pointer to next position to be written } //Changes the size of the last volume because it is the end of the file else { filePart.write(reinterpret_cast<char *>(&bigFile),(size%partsize)); //Write the selected amount to the file filePart.close(); //close file } cout << "File " << CurrentPath << partname << " produced" << endl; //display the progress of the split } bigFile.close(); cout << "Split Complete." << endl; return 0; } Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Unable to .append(); without eliminating all the spaces in the code

    - by Adam
    $('#form_holder').append('<div id="spec_id_'+count+'"><div class="avail_container"> <input class="avail_fields" type="checkbox" checked="checked" name="special'+count+'" /><span class="avail_field_label">Special Date</span></div> <div class="avail_container"><div class="avail_time_container"><span class="field_label">Time</span> <select name="special'+count+'_time_from_1"> <?php for ($t = 0; $t<24; $t++){ ?> <option value="<?php echo $t; ?>"><?php echo $t; ?></option> <?php } ?> </select>: <select name="special'+count+'_time_from_2"> <?php for ($t = 0; $t<60; $t+=15){ ?> <option value="<?php if($t == 0){ echo $t . '' . $t; }else{ echo $t; } ?>"><?php if($t == 0){ echo $t . '' . $t; }else{ echo $t; } ?></option> <?php } ?> </select> <span class="field_label">to</span> <select name="special'+count+'_time_to_1"> <?php for ($t = 0; $t<24; $t++){ ?> <option value="<?php echo $t; ?>"><?php echo $t; ?></option> <?php } ?> </select>: <select name="special'+count+'_time_to_2"> <?php for ($t = 0; $t<60; $t+=15){ ?> <option value="<?php if($t == 0){ echo $t . '' . $t; }else{ echo $t; } ?>"><?php if($t == 0){ echo $t . '' . $t; }else{ echo $t; } ?></option> <?php } ?> </select> </div> </div> </div>'); I'm assuming javascript or jquery does not like breaks like I have here, because all my javascript code does not work. What would be an alternative to eliminating all the spaces, which would make viewing the code difficult?

  • java.lang.IllegalAccessException during Ant jwsc webservice build

    - by KevB
    Hi. I have a large application, part of which relies on a set of 3 webservices. I'm currently in the process of writing an Ant build script to build and package the application into an EAR file. When building the web sub-project for this application I use the <jwsc> task in Ant to compile the webservices. This causes an IllegalAccessException, as outlined in the stack trace below: [jwsc] warning: 'includeantruntime' was not set, defaulting to build.sysclasspath=last; set to false for repeatable builds [jwsc] JWS: processing module weboutput [jwsc] Parsing source files [jwsc] Parsing source files [jwsc] 3 JWS files being processed for module weboutput [jwsc] JWS: C:\dev\ir\irWeb\src\webservices\DailyRun.java Validated. I also found a single report on the Oracle forums that seemed to be a carbon copy of this issue, but there were no replies. The application is written in Weblogic Workshop 10, runs on Weblogic Server 10.3, and uses Beehive / NetUI. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though. The build scripts were automatically generated by Weblogic Workshop, with some tweaks and fixes made to other aspects of the files by myself to fix other compatability issues. I am using Java 1.6.0_23 from Sun, and Ant 1.8.1 Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • OBJ model loaded in LWJGL has a black area with no texture

    - by gambiting
    I have a problem with loading an .obj file in LWJGL and its textures. The object is a tree(it's a paid model from TurboSquid, so I can't post it here,but here's the link if you want to see how it should look like): http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/701294 I wrote a custom OBJ loader using the LWJGL tutorial from their wiki. It looks like this: public class OBJLoader { public static Model loadModel(File f) throws FileNotFoundException, IOException { BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(f)); Model m = new Model(); String line; Texture currentTexture = null; while((line=reader.readLine()) != null) { if(line.startsWith("v ")) { float x = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1]); float y = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2]); float z = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[3]); m.verticies.add(new Vector3f(x,y,z)); }else if(line.startsWith("vn ")) { float x = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1]); float y = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2]); float z = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[3]); m.normals.add(new Vector3f(x,y,z)); }else if(line.startsWith("vt ")) { float x = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1]); float y = Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2]); m.texVerticies.add(new Vector2f(x,y)); }else if(line.startsWith("f ")) { Vector3f vertexIndicies = new Vector3f(Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1].split("/")[0]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2].split("/")[0]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[3].split("/")[0])); Vector3f textureIndicies = new Vector3f(Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1].split("/")[1]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2].split("/")[1]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[3].split("/")[1])); Vector3f normalIndicies = new Vector3f(Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[1].split("/")[2]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[2].split("/")[2]), Float.valueOf(line.split(" ")[3].split("/")[2])); m.faces.add(new Face(vertexIndicies,textureIndicies,normalIndicies,currentTexture.getTextureID())); }else if(line.startsWith("g ")) { if(line.length()>2) { String name = line.split(" ")[1]; currentTexture = TextureLoader.getTexture("PNG", ResourceLoader.getResourceAsStream("res/" + name + ".png")); System.out.println(currentTexture.getTextureID()); } } } reader.close(); System.out.println(m.verticies.size() + " verticies"); System.out.println(m.normals.size() + " normals"); System.out.println(m.texVerticies.size() + " texture coordinates"); System.out.println(m.faces.size() + " faces"); return m; } } Then I create a display list for my model using this code: objectDisplayList = GL11.glGenLists(1); GL11.glNewList(objectDisplayList, GL11.GL_COMPILE); Model m = null; try { m = OBJLoader.loadModel(new File("res/untitled4.obj")); } catch (Exception e1) { e1.printStackTrace(); } int currentTexture=0; for(Face face: m.faces) { if(face.texture!=currentTexture) { currentTexture = face.texture; GL11.glBindTexture(GL11.GL_TEXTURE_2D, currentTexture); } GL11.glColor3f(1f, 1f, 1f); GL11.glBegin(GL11.GL_TRIANGLES); Vector3f n1 = m.normals.get((int) face.normal.x - 1); GL11.glNormal3f(n1.x, n1.y, n1.z); Vector2f t1 = m.texVerticies.get((int) face.textures.x -1); GL11.glTexCoord2f(t1.x, t1.y); Vector3f v1 = m.verticies.get((int) face.vertex.x - 1); GL11.glVertex3f(v1.x, v1.y, v1.z); Vector3f n2 = m.normals.get((int) face.normal.y - 1); GL11.glNormal3f(n2.x, n2.y, n2.z); Vector2f t2 = m.texVerticies.get((int) face.textures.y -1); GL11.glTexCoord2f(t2.x, t2.y); Vector3f v2 = m.verticies.get((int) face.vertex.y - 1); GL11.glVertex3f(v2.x, v2.y, v2.z); Vector3f n3 = m.normals.get((int) face.normal.z - 1); GL11.glNormal3f(n3.x, n3.y, n3.z); Vector2f t3 = m.texVerticies.get((int) face.textures.z -1); GL11.glTexCoord2f(t3.x, t3.y); Vector3f v3 = m.verticies.get((int) face.vertex.z - 1); GL11.glVertex3f(v3.x, v3.y, v3.z); GL11.glEnd(); } GL11.glEndList(); The currentTexture is an int - it contains the ID of the currently used texture. So my model looks absolutely fine without textures: (sorry I cannot post hyperlinks since I am a new user) i.imgur.com/VtoK0.png But look what happens if I enable GL_TEXTURE_2D: i.imgur.com/z8Kli.png i.imgur.com/5e9nn.png i.imgur.com/FAHM9.png As you can see an entire side of the tree appears to be missing - and it's not transparent, since it's not in the colour of the background - it's rendered black. It's not a problem with the model - if I load it using Kanji's OBJ loader it works fine(but the thing is,that I need to write my own OBJ loader) i.imgur.com/YDATo.png this is my OpenGL init section: //init display try { Display.setDisplayMode(new DisplayMode(Support.SCREEN_WIDTH, Support.SCREEN_HEIGHT)); Display.create(); Display.setVSyncEnabled(true); } catch (LWJGLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); System.exit(0); } GL11.glLoadIdentity(); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_TEXTURE_2D); GL11.glClearColor(1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f); GL11.glShadeModel(GL11.GL_SMOOTH); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_DEPTH_TEST); GL11.glDepthFunc(GL11.GL_LESS); GL11.glDepthMask(true); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_NORMALIZE); GL11.glMatrixMode(GL11.GL_PROJECTION); GLU.gluPerspective (90.0f,800f/600f, 1f, 500.0f); GL11.glMatrixMode(GL11.GL_MODELVIEW); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_CULL_FACE); GL11.glCullFace(GL11.GL_BACK); //enable lighting GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_LIGHTING); ByteBuffer temp = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(16); temp.order(ByteOrder.nativeOrder()); GL11.glMaterial(GL11.GL_FRONT, GL11.GL_DIFFUSE, (FloatBuffer)temp.asFloatBuffer().put(lightDiffuse).flip()); GL11.glMaterialf(GL11.GL_FRONT, GL11.GL_SHININESS,(int)material_shinyness); GL11.glLight(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_DIFFUSE, (FloatBuffer)temp.asFloatBuffer().put(lightDiffuse2).flip()); // Setup The Diffuse Light GL11.glLight(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_POSITION,(FloatBuffer)temp.asFloatBuffer().put(lightPosition2).flip()); GL11.glLight(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_AMBIENT,(FloatBuffer)temp.asFloatBuffer().put(lightAmbient).flip()); GL11.glLight(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_SPECULAR,(FloatBuffer)temp.asFloatBuffer().put(lightDiffuse2).flip()); GL11.glLightf(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_CONSTANT_ATTENUATION, 0.1f); GL11.glLightf(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_LINEAR_ATTENUATION, 0.0f); GL11.glLightf(GL11.GL_LIGHT2, GL11.GL_QUADRATIC_ATTENUATION, 0.0f); GL11.glEnable(GL11.GL_LIGHT2); Could somebody please help me?

  • How to fix a Sticky Footer that works, but after a browser window is resized, the footer overlaps.

    - by UXdesigner
    Good day, I've been trying to build a perfect footer who sticks at the bottom of the browser window after it's content. And I got help here @ Stack Overflow previously. But after a while, and doing a few tests, found out that after the browser window is resized, and then I scroll down , the footer overlaps...it is causing me a big headache right now and I'd like to fix this so I can move on. I'm going to post the display.css right here: @charset "utf-8"; body, html { margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; position: relative; min-height:100%; /* needed for footer positioning*/ height:100%; • Problem with my whiteboard application

    - by swift
    I have to develop a whiteboard application in which both the local user and the remote user should be able to draw simultaneously, is this possible? If possible then any logic? I have already developed a code but in which i am not able to do this, when the remote user starts drawing the shape which i am drawing is being replaced by his shape and co-ordinates. This problem is only when both draw simultaneously. any idea guys? Here is my code class Paper extends JPanel implements MouseListener,MouseMotionListener,ActionListener { static BufferedImage image; int bpressed; Color color; Point start; Point end; Point mp; Button elipse=new Button("elipse"); • Spring transaction : Transaction not active

    - by Videanu Adrian
    i develop a app using struts2, spring 3.1, Jpa2 and Hibernate. From Spring i use transactions and IoC. so, i have an ajax code block that calls for a struts2 action every second (this is happening for every user that is logged into application (simultaneous users are around 20-30 at a time)). this action name is PopupAction public class PopupAction extends VActionBase implements ServletRequestAware { private static final long serialVersionUID = -293004532677112584L; private iIntermedService intermedService; private HttpServletRequest servletRequest; @Override public String execute() { Integer agentId = (Integer) session.get("USER_AGENT_ID"); Intermed iObj; try { iObj = intermedService.getIntermed(agentId,locationsString); } catch (Exception e) { logger.error("Cannot get Intermed!!! "+e.getMessage()); return ERROR; } return SUCCESS; } } and then i have the service class : @Transactional(readOnly=true) public class IntermedServiceImpl extends GenericIService<Intermed, Integer> implements iIntermedService { @Override public Intermed getIntermed (int agentId,String queueIds) throws Exception { Intermed intermedObj = null; //TODO - find a better implementation for this queueIds parameter!!!! try{ String sql = "SELECT i FROM bla bla bla.....)"; Query q = this.em.createQuery(sql); List<Intermed> iList = q.getResultList(); if (iList.size() == 1){ intermedObj = (Intermed) iList.get(0); //get latest object from DB em.refresh(intermedObj); } }catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); logger.error(e.getCause()+e.getMessage()); throw e; } return intermedObj; } } here is the spring configuration : <bean id="emfI" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="dataSource" ref="inboundDS" /> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="I2PU"/> <!-- GlassFish load-time weaving setup --> <property name="loadTimeWeaver"> <bean class="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.glassfish.GlassFishLoadTimeWeaver"/> </property> </bean> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="txManagerI" /> <tx:advice id="txManagerInboundAdvice" transaction-manager="txManagerI"> <tx:attributes> <tx:method name="*" rollback-for="java.lang.Exception"/> </tx:attributes> </tx:advice> I have names for transactionManager because i have 3 datasources and 3 transaction managers. the problem is that my glassfish logs are full of messages like these: -- removed in order to be able to add more recent logs -- So the cause is : Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Transaction not active. But i have no idea what can cause this. Any help ? thanks Updates So i have added to @Transactional annotation the transaction manager name that he has to use, but this still does not solved my problem. I have captured a log from the time that the transaction is created until i got that exception: 2012-02-08T15:08:55.954+0200|INFO||_ThreadID=184;_ThreadName=Thread-5;|DEBUG [thread-pool-1-80(80)] (AbstractBeanFactory.java:245) - All the software seems to be there by default on Server 2012 and my hardware meets the reqs. Copy the installation media to the local drive and try to install from that (rather than a DVD). What is the name of this adapter and where can I get another one? Clues: This computer was bought new October 2013 from best buy, box number: DX4870-UB318. The gateway folks won't divulge the type of motherboard it has nor give specs on it. On the wire itself is an identification code: H.35090NJ01-000 Next to the connector on the motherboard it says: HDDPWR1 and the second one says HDDPWR2. This cable has two SATA power connectors and one mystery connector. The power supply has no molex power cables and no SATA power connectors! This is the most bizarre hard drive power system I've seen. I guess the motherboard folks are trying to remove the burden for desktop power supplies to provide adapters (molex, SATA, other) to CD's and hard drives. Can someone put a name on that white flat 6 pin HDD Power Connector? My Solution I can buy a "SATA Power Y Splitter Cable" to provide more spaces to power sata devices.

  • Configure IIS7.5 to allow calls to asmx web services.

    - by goodeye
    Hi, I migrated a site from IIS6 to Windows Server 2008 R2 IIS7.5. It has an asmx web service, which is working fine locally, but returns this 500 error when called from another machine: Request format is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in /myMethodName The solution in previous versions is to add this to the web.config for the protocols needed (typically omitting HttpGet for production): <system.web> <webServices> <protocols> <add name="HttpGet" /> <add name="HttpPost" /> <add name="HttpSoap" /> </protocols> </webServices> </system.web> This is posted everywhere, including http://stackoverflow.com/questions/657313/request-format-is-unrecognized-for-url-unexpectedly-ending-in For IIS7.5, this throws a configuration error; I understand this section doesn't belong, but tried it anyway. I also boiled down the asmx call to a simple hello world. I tested with POST also, just to eliminate any issues with GET. What is the equivalent for IIS7.5? - either web.config format or the UI button to push would be really helpful. Thanks, Bob

  • Cannot bind OSX to AD

    - by erotsppa
    I'm trying to get an mac mini running snow leopard server to join a windows domain here. The windows domain server is running Windows server 2008. When I go to "Accounts" in my System Preferences, and lick on "Join", I get this error: "Unable to add server. Node name wasn't found. (2000)" In my console messages I find this: 10-04-06 11:42:25 AM System Preferences1452 -[ODCAddServerSheetController handleOtherActionError: gotError: Error Domain=com.apple.OpenDirectory Code=2000 UserInfo=0x2004f2f80 "Custom call 82 to Active Directory failed.", Node name wasn't found. I specified a FQDN for the domain server, so I am totally confused as to why it would list "domain = com.apple...." in that error. I've tried firing up the Directory Utility and trying to join a domain via the Active Directory option there. Again I fill in the FQDN, and the proper administrator/password acount info. Now I get a different error: "Invalid Domain An invalid Domain and Forest combination was specified. You should enter a fully qualified DNS name for the domain and forest (e.g., ads.company.com)." If anyone has any pointers or suggestions this would be appreciated.

  • Having trouble using psservice and sc.exe between Windows Server 2008 machines

    - by Teflon Mac
    I'm trying to control services on one W2k8 machine from another; no domain just a workgroup. The user account I'm logged in as is an administrator on both machines. I've tried both psservice and sc.exe. These work in a Windows Server 2003 environment but it looks like I need to an extra step or two due to the changed security model in 2008. Any ideas as to how grant permission to the Service Control Manager (psservice) or OpenService (sc)? I tried running the DOS window with "Run As Administrator" and it made no difference. With psservice I get the following D:\mydir>psservice \\REMOTESERVER -u "adminid" -p "adminpassword" start "Display Name of Service" PsService v2.22 - Service information and configuration utility Copyright (C) 2001-2008 Mark Russinovich Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com Unable to access Service Control Manager on \\REMOTESERVER: Access is denied. In the remote server, I get the following message in the Security Log so I know I connect and login to the remote machine. I assume it then fails on a subsequent authorization step. The logoff message in the security log is just that ("An account was logged off."), so no extra info there. Special privileges assigned to new logon. Subject: Security ID: REMOTESERVER\adminid Account Name: adminid Account Domain: REMOTESERVER Logon ID: 0xxxxxxxx Privileges: SeSecurityPrivilege SeBackupPrivilege SeRestorePrivilege SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege SeDebugPrivilege SeSystemEnvironmentPrivilege SeLoadDriverPrivilege SeImpersonatePrivilege sc.exe is similar. The command syntax and error differs as below but I also see the same login message in the remote server's security log. D:\mydir>sc \\REMOTESERVER start "Registry Name of Service" [SC] StartService: OpenService FAILED 5: Access is denied.
