  • java random percentages

    - by erw
I need to generate n percentages (integers between 0 and 100) such that the sum of all n numbers adds up to 100. If I just do nextInt() n times, each time ensuring that the parameter is 100 minus the previously accumulated sum, then my percentages are biased (i.e. the first generated number will usually be largest etc.). How do I do this in an unbiased way?

  • vim autopopulate file

    - by David Oneill
Is it possible to have VIM auto populate a file based on the extension? For example, when I open a new .sh file, I would like VIM to automatically type #!/bin/bash as the first line. (This example simplified down to the essentials)

  • Open Source C/C++ embedded web server

    - by MGoDave
I am working on a project where I need to embed a web server into my C++ application. I am looking for an open-source library supporting SSL, written in C or C++ and with a licensing scheme that will allow me to link it into my existing closed source code. Any suggestions of specific products or where to look first?

  • How to create an after_save callback on runtime

    - by dorelal
I am using ruby on rails 2.3.5 . I have user instance. On run time depending on certain conditions I want to add an after_save callback just for this instance. The other issue is that this after_save should take a block or a proc as parameter. What I want is something like this. This is psuedo code. user = User.first proc = Proc.new do puts 'this is foo' end user.after_save proc

  • How can I define multiple types with the same name and different type parameters using Reflection Em

    - by wawa
How can I generate types like these using the System.Reflection.Emit libraries: public class Test<T> {} public class Test<T1, T2> {} When I call ModuleBuilder.DefineType(string) with the second type declaration, I get an exception because there is already another type in the module with the same name (I've already defined the type parameter on the first type). Any ideas?

  • good practice for string.partition in python

    - by user1544915
some case i write code like these: a,temp,b = s.partition('-') i just need to pick the first and 3rd element. temp would never be used. is there a better way to do this? the common case is ,a better way to pick separted element to make a new list? for example i want to make a new list use old list 0,1,3,7 element code would be this: newlist = [oldlist[0],oldlist[1],oldlist[3],oldlist[7]] it's pretty ugly, isn't it?

  • How to determine whether a linked list contains a loop?

    - by ET
During a preparation for a job interview, I encountered the following question: How can you determine whether a linked list (of any type) contains a loop, using additional space complexity of O(1)? You cannot assume that the loop starts at the first node (and of course, the loop doesn't have to contain all nodes). I couldn't find the answer, though I have the feeling it's quite simple...

  • Bulk update & occasional insert (coredata) - Too slow

    - by Andrew
Update: Currently looking into NSSET's minusSet links: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1475636/comparing-two-arrays Hi guys, Could benefit from your wisdom here.. I'm using Coredata in my app, on first launch I download a data file and insert over 500 objects (each with 60 attributes) - fast, no problem. Each subsequent launch I download an updated version of the file, from which I need to update all existing objects' attributes (except maybe 5 attributes) and create new ones for items which have been added to the downloaded file. So, first launch I get 500 objects.. say a week later my file now contains 507 items.. I create two arrays, one for existing and one for downloaded. NSArray *peopleArrayDownloaded = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"person" :@"person_id" :YES :managedObjectContextPeopleTemp]; NSArray *peopleArrayExisting = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"person" :@"person_id" :YES :managedObjectContextPeople]; If the count of each array is equal then I just do this: NSUInteger index = 0; if ([peopleArrayExisting count] == [peopleArrayDownloaded count]) { NSLog(@"Number of people downloaded is same as the number of people existing"); for (person *existingPerson in peopleArrayExisting) { person *tempPerson = [peopleArrayDownloaded objectAtIndex:index]; // NSLog(@"Updating id: %@ with id: %@",existingPerson.person_id,tempPerson.person_id); // I have 60 attributes which I to update on each object, is there a quicker way other than overwriting existing? index++; } } else { NSLog(@"Number of people downloaded is different to number of players existing"); So now comes the slow part. I end up using this (which is tooooo slow): NSLog(@"Need people added to the league"); for (person *tempPerson in peopeArrayDownloaded) { NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"person_id = %@",tempPerson.person_id]; // NSLog(@"Searching for existing person, person_id: %@",existingPerson.person_id); NSArray *filteredArray = [peopleArrayExisting filteredArrayUsingPredicate:predicate]; if ([filteredArray count] == 0) { NSLog(@"Couldn't find an existing person in the downloaded file. Adding.."); person *newPerson = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"person" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContextPeople]; Is there a way to generate a new array of index items referring to the additional items in my downloaded file? Incidentally, on my tableViews I'm using NSFetchedResultsController so updating attributes will call [cell setNeedsDisplay]; .. about 60 times per cell, not a good thing and it can crash the app. Thanks for reading :)

  • SSIS Package deployed - Fails when executed from schedule

    - by alex
I've deployed a SSIS package to my SQL server. I can run the package fine by connecting to Integration Services in SSMS and right clicking on it and choosing "Run Package" However, if I schedule the package, it fails. It tells me to check the logs for information on why, but there is nothing in there... Any ideas? (this is my first SSIS package by the way)

    - by cambr

  • Why won't these two mod_rewrite rules work together?

    - by George Edison
Here is what I have: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^users/(\d+)/post$ post.php [L] RewriteRule ^users/(\d+)$ user.php?id=$1 [L] The first rule doesn't work. The second one does. All I get when I enter .../users/1/post is a 404 error. What am I doing wrong? Edit: The error log doesn't have anything in it relating to this.

  • Are the ususal database performance-tuning tips invalide for a third-party app like Drupal

    - by Paul Strugger
When you have a slow database app, the first suggestions that people make is to: Track the slow queries Add appropriate indexes In the case you are building your own application this is very logical, but when you use a CMS like Drupal, that are people have developed and tuned, is this approach valid? I mean, aren't Drupal tables already fine-tuned for performance? Even if I try to see which queries are the slow ones, what could I do about it? Re-write Drupal core?!?

  • Can I use anything other than BIGINT as Primary Key data type in SQLite?

    - by weenet
I was psyched about the possibility of using SQLite as a database solution during development so that I could focus on writing the code first and dynamically generating the db at runtime using NHibernate's ShemaExport functionality. However, I'm running into a few issues, not the least of which is that it seems that SQLite requires me to use Int64 for my primary keys (vs, say, Int32 or Guid). Is there any way around this?

  • Is it possible to format C++ code with VIM?

    - by Werner
Hi, I am rather new to VIM. I got some source code and this is a mess. At a first sight I would like at least to get a clear and organised view of the code, so I like to get it rightly formatted, I mean indented depending on the depth of the functions and so. I wonder if it can be done with VIM, and otherwise which other commandline tools for that can you recommend. Thanks
