  • Unable to save file in python

    - by some1
Trying to save files in python: g = open('~/ccna_pages/'+filename, 'w') g.write(page) g.close() Get this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "dl-pages.py", line 50, in g = open('~/ccna_pages/'+filename, 'w') IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '~/ccna_pages/1.0.1.1.html' However, the directory does exist at that location. This syntax seems to be the what the python docs recommend.. http://docs.python.org/release/1.5/tut/node46.html What am I missing? Thanks..

  • Can Django be used for web services?

    - by alex
My friend said, "Pylons is so much better for web services." My other friend said, "You can modify Django in a way to do exactly whatever you like." In Django, what is necessary to be modified (urls.py? models classes? settings?) in order to do "web services" with APIs and REST and versioning, etc etc.?

  • Setting custom SQL in django admin

    - by eugene y
I'm trying to set up a proxy model in django admin. It will represent a subset of the original model. The code from models.py: class MyManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(MyManager, self).get_query_set().filter(some_column='value') class MyModel(OrigModel): objects = MyManager() class Meta: proxy = True Now instead of filter() I need to use a complex SELECT statement with JOINS. What's the proper way to inject it wholly to the custom manager?

  • Django admin - remove field if editing an object

    - by John McCollum
I have a model which is accessible through the Django admin area, something like the following: # model class Foo(models.Model): field_a = models.CharField(max_length=100) field_b = models.CharField(max_length=100) # admin.py class FooAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): pass Let's say that I want to show field_a and field_b if the user is adding an object, but only field_a if the user is editing an object. Is there a simple way to do this, perhaps using the fields attribute? If if comes to it, I could hack a JavaScript solution, but it doesn't feel right to do that at all!

  • Sphinx: some good customization examples?

    - by Mark Harrison
I've created a Sphinx document using sphinx-quickstart. Are there any good examples/tutorials about customizing the look? Specifically to modify the header and add a logo. Are there some projects with downloadable Sphinx docs? I would like to see how they've customized their look. update: Adding a logo is supported in the default setup, just not particularly well documented. Look in conf.py for the *_logo settings.`

  • Carrot (Python) [errno 10054] An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

    - by Meditation
Hi all, We are using Carrot in our Python project. I wrote a Python script acting as the consumer of the message queue. I invoked this Python script using command line shell in Windows 7 as python consumer.py However, after a while, the running session was aborted and the error is: [errno 10054] An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host The producer session is still running fine on the Linux server. Just wondering how can I fix this and have a long running consumer session on Windows Thanks in advance.

  • Python command line - add PYTHONPATH during module run

    - by orokusaki
I want to run: python somescript.py somecommand But, when I run this I need PYTHONPATH to include a certain directory. I can't just add it to my environment variables because the directory I want to add changes based on what project I'm running. Is there a way to alter PYTHONPATH while running a script? Note: I don't even have a PYTHONPATH variable, so I don't need to worry about appending to it vs overriding it during running of this script.

  • Python: Streaming Input with Subprocesses

    - by beary605
Since input and raw_input() stop the program from running anymore, I want to use a subprocess to run this program... while True: print raw_input() and get its output. This is what I have as my reading program: import subprocess process = subprocess.Popen('python subinput.py', stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) while True: output=process.stdout.read(12) if output=='' and process.poll()!=None: break if output!='': sys.stdout.write(output) sys.stdout.flush() When I run this, the subprocess exits almost as fast as it started. How can I fix this?

  • Python: Set window focus on terminal

    - by janoliver
Hey, I have a python application that opens some plots for me and then asks the user for input. The problem is, that after opening the plot, the focus isn't on the terminal anymore, so you have to click or tab to it manually. I would like to set the focus to the terminal window with python - is that possible? I'm using gnuplot.py, maybe there is an option to open the plot in the background? Thanks!

  • Django: How do I use assert False, sys.exc_info()[0] without showing a system error page?

    - by swisstony
I'm new to Django and have some code in my views.py like this: try: myfunction() except: assert False, sys.exc_info()[0] This is very helpful because I get an email with lots of useful info if there's an error. The problem is that it also redirects the user to a Webfaction system error page. What I'd like to know is how do I still get the useful error email, but redirect the user to my own error page? Also, is this the best way to be handling errors in Django?

  • Python/Django: log to console under runserver, log to file under Apache

    - by Justin Grant
How can I send trace messages to the console (like print) when I'm running my Django app under manage.py runserver, but have those messages sent to a log file when I'm running the app under Apache? I reviewed Django logging and although I was impressed with its flexibility and configurability for advanced uses, I'm still stumped with how to handle my simple use-case. My apologies for not being able to find the answer elsewhere-- this is a newbie question I know.
