I am looking for suggestions on the best way to document
replication....all publications....subscriptions....articles.
I currently have 2 data centers & 35 remote locations.
Any suggestions??
Does anyone know how to give developers access to add a publisher in Replication Monitor SQL2005 and monitor the subscriptions, without giving them SA rights?
I asked in the Ubuntu area, but thought I would get a better answer here.
Was anyone able to install packetfence on Ubuntu 10? I tried a tutorial, but didn't have any luck. Some of the services installed and are working apache with php, snort, pfdetect, and pfdhcplistener. I can even get info with pfcmd node view all, but for the life of me I can't get it to work with apache2. When I run pfcmd service pf start I also get an error uninitialized value $_[7] in join at /usr/local/pf/lib/pf/class.pm line 170
Virtualization is one of the areas where I could really use some experience. I also run quite a few services (web, mail, dns, etc.) out of my home. Since most of my hardware is getting a bit old (I'm running on stuff that was surplused years ago...) I decided that it's about time I start renewing some things, and also play around with virtualization a bit more. My plan is to setup a SAN box (simple iSCSI target, relatively inexpensive gigE switch), get a pair (for starters) of new servers, and start building some new stuff with Xen, specifically planning on playing with live migration and full virtualization.
Does anyone have recommendations for used, older "servers" (really anything in a rack-mount form factor, I'm not too worried about things like iLO/iLOM for the test nodes) that support VT-x/AMD-V? I'm biased to HP, but it looks like they didn't make Proliants with VT-x/Vanderpool processors until G6 (for the DL360) or so, which is way out of my price range.
I'm looking in the sub-$300 range (or less, if possible), used, probably Ebay.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Edit:And, to catch this before the comments start coming - these are personal systems. I have first-generation Proliants still in use (I got them as corporate surplus in 05, they've been running since then, and probably were running since 01 or 02 prior to being sold). I don't need anything shiny and new - I've got a bunch of old boxes, at least one complete replacement for every model in use, and that's fine for me (and easy on the wallet).
There might be an easy answer to this. I have exhausted my search on google for a solution. Here's my problem.
I need to get Windows working on a KVM vps with virtualizor CP. As I get into windows installation in VNC, there's the mandatory driver installation requirement, as HDD is in virtio. There seems to be 2 solutions:
1. Mount the virtio iso (http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/images/bin/) in the CD drive by unmounting Windows ISO and proceed with driver installation.
2. Create a secondary CD drive and mount the virtio iso there.
Well, 1st step never seems to work. If I unload the Windows iso and load the virtio iso, it never reflects back in the VNC.
Second step I have yet to be successfull. I try to create a second IDE CD ROM drive via virt-manager but the virtio (virtio-win-0.1-30.iso) iso is never listed in there, whereas i specially placed it in /var/lib/libvirt/images folder.
Any suggestions on where I screwed up?
I have a user logon script. I want to install printers based on hostname.
Inside this folder \domain.local\SYSVOL\domain.local\Policies{DF3F608C-8D78-934F-B79F-1965F3C4409B}\User\Scripts\Logon
I have cmd files for each host/workstation and the logon.cmd.
Terminal Servers are honoring the environment variable %clientname% but the workstations are not.
Relevant area of logon.cmd
rem Delete all existing printer connections
c:\windows\system32\con2prt.exe /f
rem Call workstation specific script for connecting to printers
%clientname%.cmd
Excerpt from clientname.cmdL:
rundll32 printui,PrintUIEntry /in /n\\fileserv\PhaserPS
rundll32 printui,PrintUIEntry /in /n\\fileserv\CanonIR
rundll32 printui,PrintUIEntry /y /n\\fileserv\CanonIR
I have a problem with files that are being moved into a folder that is set to replace permissions on child objects for the Network Service account. The process is that a media file is uploaded to a website, and is encoded by a piece of software. This moves the file to a folder but for some reason the files that get moved there don't inherit the Network Service account in security permissions. If I manually move a file into the folder the permission is inherited. I have used the effective permissions tool to check the Network Service account security permissions on the parent folder but this shows that there is nothing overriding it - the account has full permissions.
Can try and supply more info if required, but any answers grealty appreciated!
Where to find virtual host details and document root in Ubuntu Hardy?
For example, in Centos both information is available in httpd.conf file, whilst there is also a httpd.conf file found in Hardy, virtual hosts and document root information is not available.
Thanks for help.
Method 1: Via apache2.conf (or httpd.conf):
<Directory "/var/www/html">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks -MultiViews
AllowOverrides None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
Method 2: Chmod in the command-line.
Doesn't both these methods accomplish the same thing?
And another Q if you can answer it, what permissions is the var and www folder usually set to?
Thanks
I'm inheriting a database that has 400 tables and only 150 foreign key constraints registered. Knowing what I do about the application and looking at the table columns, it's easy to say that there ought to be a lot more.
I'm afraid that the current application software will break if I started adding the missing FKs because the developers have probably come to rely on this "freedom", but step one in fixing the problem is to come up with the list of missing FKs so we can evaluate them as a team.
To make matters worse, the referencing columns don't share a naming convention.
The relationships ARE coded informally into the hundreds of ad-hoc queries and stored procedures, so my hope is to parse these files programmatically looking for JOINS between actual tables (but not table variables, etc).
Challenges I foresee in this approach are: newlines, optional aliases and table hints, alias resolution.
Any better ideas? (Besides quitting)
Are there any pre-built tools that can solve this?
I don't think regex can handle this. Do you disagree?
SQL Parsers? I tried using Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser but all that is exposed is the lexer - can't get an AST out of it - all that stuff is internal.
I'm currently running a bukkit (minecraft) server which generates a server.log file with all the console messages / errors.
Every now and then I have a plugin (which i need) that crashes and can cause the server.log file size to increase dramatically. I've had it hit 32GB before which used all my disk space.
Is there a way to make it a rolling log (deletes old errors) or be able to limit the file size so it can't go above say 10MB. But the solution needs to not affect how the server runs so it doesn't throw an error when it can't write anymore.
Anyway of doing this with CentOS?
I have a website I'd like to develop that might eventually get fairly large (in terms of what's stored and how many people visit). My question is, will staying with a hosting company (namely, FatCow) be a complete disaster? Or is there an alternative?
I know very little about this aspect of web dev, so it would be great if any technology I need to learn was mentioned with some detail.
Thank you very much.

I have a VPN set up on a Symantec Gateway 320 and the status of the VPN is connected but the feature it provides is not working which means it is not actually connected..The only way to test it other than trying to use it in the program that utilizes it is to ping the remote subnet IP we use. mask numbers match, no settings have been changed it just stopped working.
I've been tasked with hosting our own inhouse mail server
1) i need to have web mail access , imap
2) it needs to be as cheap as possible
i already have an ubuntu server that we use for our samba drives and so far have been very happy with it
I am not apposed to building out another box for a dedicated email server but I'm not familiar enough with Linux or mail hosting programs to even know where to start.
I currently have an RDS farm which is used for running remote apps for a large group of users.
When logging in these users must authenticate to the RDS web page to view their list of applications. Then they authenticate again upon clicking the application the require.
How can I enable this to use the users current windows authentication so they do not have to log in at each step. Ideally since the user is logged in to their local machine with their windows account, they should not need to continuously authenticate.
I set up backups in 2008 R2 to backup to a USB drive, and the backup program formatted the drive so it doesn't appear with a drive letter.
Rotating to the next of four backup drives breaks the backups because it has an NTFS partition on it. I don't see a way to prepare each of my USB drives to be used for backups. What kind of formatting is the backup program expecting to find and write to and how do I ensure my other USB drives can be rotated?
Thanks.
Why pdnsd responds slowly/fails many requests to it even if it has found working upstream server?
I want it to just use the DNS server it has probed to work and search for other configured variants only if that chosen server failed.
/* Most time only about 1-2 of configured servers does work, each time different ones */
After an update was installed via automatic updates dialog boxes have lost some of their text including some tabs. Example: http://rs-us.net/dialogbox.JPG
So here's the problem.
I have a site in IIS that is being redirected from the site's hostname to its IP address. The problem is, I haven't even set up redirects at all for the site; and yet when I analyze the headers that come through as the page loads, I see clear as day, "302 Temporary Redirect".
What could be causing this? I thought perhaps it was something in my application's DB (it's a PHP/MySQL application), but I have ruled that out. I also thought that it might be a rewrite rule somewhere, so I deleted all my rewrite rules as well.
