  • Does a jQuery selector by id always work without quotes and # sign?

    - by anarinsky
    I suddenly found that while using Mozilla / jQuery v1.8.2 I do not need to use the id with quotes and # sign. For example, $(bt2) works the same as $(“#bt2”), see the code below. Will this selector always work and are there any potential drawbacks from using this shorter form of selection? <html> <head> <title>append</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready (function(){ $(bt2).click(function(){ $(i1).append("<li>a4</li>", "<li>a5</li>"); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <button id="Button1">Append List</button> <ul id="i1"> <li>a1</li> </ul> </body> </html>

  • Jquery Works in FF but not IE at all

    - by Shawn
I set up the SimpleModal plugin to work from our Ad server(Real 24/7). Essentially, attempting to make an interstitial ad. I serve a popupAd.js file from the Ad Server to our homepage(index.php), Here is the code for popupAd.js: $(document).ready(function() { $.modal('<iframe src="/welcomeAd.htm" height="525" width="562" style="border:0;" scrolling="no"/>', { closeHTML: "<a href='#' title='Close' align='right' style='color:#666>(X) Continue to website</a>", containerCss: { backgroundColor: '#fff', borderColor: "#0063dc", height: 525, padding: 0, width: 562, }, overlayCss:{ backgroundColor:"#fff", }, opacity:100, overlayClose: true }); }); This opens a modal window on the homepage which then loads welcomeAd.htm which contain nothing other than the ad call to the creative. Here is the code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Company Name</title> <!------ AD SERVER SETUP begin ------> <!------ OAS SERVER SETUP end ------> </head> <body style="margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%"> <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"> <!-- AD SERVER CALL; //--> </script> </body> </html> This all works in FF but does nothing in IE, of which I am running IE7. Also, the closeHTML doesn't show up in Safari, though, the ad does.

  • How can I use "PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser" to get the contents of an <h1></h1> tag?

    - by KeriLynn
I'm new to PHP =) Right now I am using PHP includes for my site template. I have my header, containing all my <head></head> info. What I want to do is write a code that will take the contents of the <h1></h1> tag from the page, and echo it into the <title></title> tag in my header.php include. I got the PHP Simple HTML DOM Parser from here: http://simplehtmldom.sourceforge.net/, and I found a code (I forget where in all my googling) that goes like this: <?php $url = (!empty($_SERVER['HTTPS'])) ? "https://".$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] : "http://".$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; $html = file_get_html('http://www.google.com/'); foreach($html->find('#content h1') as $element){ echo $element->plaintext;} ?> That I think is supposed to echo the h1 tag contents? Like I said, I'm new to PHP and I only know the basics, and I don't know really know any OOP (yet), so I'm sorry if I'm asking a dumb question. It looks like it's getting the current page, then putting the contents of the h1 tag into the variable $element, and then echoing it. But nothing happens when I put it into my page. Can anyone help me with what I'm doing wrong? Thank you for reading!! =)

  • How to use vertical-align: middle; properly?

    - by Andrew
    I want to have my list (nav) align to the center of an image (logo). I tried using vertical-align: middle;, but I couldn't get it to work when I floated the images left and right. Here's my code: HTML: <div id="head"> <img id="logo" src="logo.png" /> <ul id="nav"> <li><a href="#">Item 1</a></li> <li><a href="#">Item 2</a></li> <li><a href="#">Item 3</a></li> </ul> </div> CSS: #head { margin-top: 2px; width: 100%; } #logo { float: left; } ul#nav { float: right; } ul#nav li { display: inline; list-style-type: none; } I took all the vertical-align: middle;'s from where I put them (I tested it in each element, even though it was only supposed to be applied to #logo, from what I've read.) Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

  • Simply tag-based highlighting with Javascript

    - by nkd
Hello, I got this code which works: <html> <head> <title>JS highlighting test</title> <script type="text/javascript"> function highlight() { var t = document.getElementById('highlight').innerHTML; t = t.replace(/(if|switch|for|while)\s*(\()/gi, "<b>$1</b>$2"); document.getElementById('highlight').innerHTML = t; } </script> </head> <body onload="javascript:highlight();"> <pre id="highlight"> 1 if(foo) { 2 bar(); 3 } 4 3 while(--baz) { 5 oof(); 6 } </pre> </body> </html> I would like to have it for all <pre> tags instead of just one with some specific and unique id as it works now. The best would be to have an combination of a specific tag with a specific id. Is it possible to extend the small JS function above to work this way (using some document.getElementsByTag(tag).getElementsById(id).innerHTML or something alike (I don't know what exactly suites the need) in a loop? I tried myself but with no real success. I need only as simple solution as possible, nothing really special. Thank you for your ideas. -- nkd

  • Load function in jquery

    - by user345579
Hi, I am relatively new to jquery and would like to know why the below code wouldn't work. I am trying to access the content from a file residing on my site and not outside. Is it because I have the jquery lib loading from google and not my site? The error message that I get in IE browser is "Access Denied". I am confused why the access is denied if I am trying to load a file from the same server and even same folder. <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#response").load("http://www.mydomain.com/loadme.php?route=links/getlinks&path=2"); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="response" style="border: 1px solid #000;height:500px;">&nbsp;</div> </body> </html> any one please help me. thanks

  • Required attribute HTML5

    - by Joop
First of all I will explain how I stumbled into this behavior. Within my web application I am using some custom validation for my form fields. Within the same form I have two buttons. One to actually submit the form and the other to cancel/reset the form. Mostly I use Safari as my default browser. Now Safari 5 is out and suddenly my cancel/reset button didn't work anymore. Every time I did hit the reset button the first field in my form did get the focus. However this is the same behavior as my custom form validation. When trying it with another browser everything just worked fine. I had to be a Safari 5 problem. I changed a bit in my Javascript code and I found out that the following line was causing the problem: document.getElementById("somefield").required = true; To be sure that would be really the problem I created a test scenario: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <form id="someform"> <label>Name:</label>&nbsp;<input type="text" id="name" required="true" /><br/> <label>Car:</label>&nbsp;<input type="text" id="car" required="true" /><br/> <br/> <input type="submit" id="btnsubmit" value="Submit!" /> </form> </body> </html> What I expected would happen did happen. The first field "name" did get the focus automatically. Anyone else stumbled into this?

  • Must JsUnit Cases Reside Under the Same Directory as JsUnit?

    - by chernevik
I have installed JsUnit and a test case as follows: /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/testRunner.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/myTests/lineTestAbs.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/lineTestAbs.html When I open the test runner in a browser as a file, and test lineTestAbs.html from the jsunit/myTests directory, it passes. When I test the same file from the JavaScript directory, the test runner times out, asking if the file exists or is a test page. Questions: Am I doing something wrong here, or is this the expected behavior? Is it possible to put test cases in a different directory structure, and if so what is the proper path reference to to JsUnitCore.js? Would JsUnit behave differently if the files were retrieved from an HTTP server? <html> <head> <title>Test Page line(m, x, b)</title> <script language="JavaScript" src="/home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/app/jsUnitCore.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript"> function line(m, x, b) { return m*x + b; } function testCalculationIsValid() { assertEquals("zero intercept", 10, line(5, 2, 0)); assertEquals("zero slope", 5, line(0, 2, 5)); assertEquals("at x = 10", 25, line(2, 10, 5)); } </script> </head> <body> This pages tests line(m, x, b). </body> </html>

  • learning C++ from java, trying to make a linked list.

    - by kyeana
I just started learning c++ (coming from java) and am having some serious problems with doing anything :P Currently, i am attempting to make a linked list, but must be doing something stupid cause i keep getting "void value not ignored as it ought to be" compile errors (i have it marked where it is throwing it bellow). If anyone could help me with what im doing wrong, i would be very grateful :) Also, I am not used to having the choice of passing by reference, address, or value, and memory management in general (currently i have all my nodes and the data declared on the heap). If anyone has any general advice for me, i also wouldn't complain :P Key code from LinkedListNode.cpp LinkedListNode::LinkedListNode() { //set next and prev to null pData=0; //data needs to be a pointer so we can set it to null for //for the tail and head. pNext=0; pPrev=0; } /* * Sets the 'next' pointer to the memory address of the inputed reference. */ void LinkedListNode::SetNext(LinkedListNode& _next) { pNext=&_next; } /* * Sets the 'prev' pointer to the memory address of the inputed reference. */ void LinkedListNode::SetPrev(LinkedListNode& _prev) { pPrev=&_prev; } //rest of class Key code from LinkedList.cpp #include "LinkedList.h" LinkedList::LinkedList() { // Set head and tail of linked list. pHead = new LinkedListNode(); pTail = new LinkedListNode(); /* * THIS IS WHERE THE ERRORS ARE. */ *pHead->SetNext(*pTail); *pTail->SetPrev(*pHead); } //rest of class
