  • How to access the relative directory of a ASP.NET website?

    - by Michael Schilling
I need to access a folder that will contain various text files for my web site. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I made a web site using visual basic. Here is the failing code: Dim fileName As String fileName = CurDir.ToString + fileName.Text + ".txt" FileOpen(1, fileName, OpenMode.Output) FileClose(1) CurDir.ToString is giving me strange directory path that isn't anywhere near where my website files are located. I need to be able to access the files in a folder inside of the WebSite1 folder without using C:\Users\..., but I'm at a loss on how to do that. Can anyone help me out?

  • Generic Lists copying references rather than creating a copiedList

    - by Dean
I was developing a small function when trying to run an enumerator across a list and then carry out some action. (Below is an idea of what I was trying to do. When trying to remove I got a "Collection cannot be modified" which after I had actually woken up I realised that tempList must have just been assigned myLists reference rather than a copy of myLists. After that I tried to find a way to say tempList = myList.copy However nothing seems to exist?? I ended up writing a small for loop that then just added each item from myLsit into tempList but I would have thought there would have been another mechanism (like clone??) So my question(s): is my assumption about tempList receiving a reference to myList correct How should a list be copied to another list? private myList as List (Of something) sub new() myList.add(new Something) end sub sub myCalledFunction() dim tempList as new List (Of Something) tempList = myList Using i as IEnumerator = myList.getEnumarator while i.moveNext 'if some critria is met then tempList.remove(i.current) end end using end sub

  • Error debugging - Conversion from String to Double

    - by Jamie Taylor
I'm doing some error debugging trying to get the errors on our website down to a minimum and there seems to be an error that is popping up quite a lot Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid. I'm unable to replicate this problem but I can see that it is happening. I've been looking through the code in one of the pages and strolled across this Dim varWeek As String If varWeek < 10 Then 'Do something' End If Could this be causing the problem as it is trying to see if a String is less than 10 which is an Integer? As I said before as I am unable to see this error in the first place so changing this to an Integer doesn't change anything on my system. Thanks.

  • Bind a WPF combobox and get selecteditem to a richtextbox

    - by Peter
Hi, I am using a dataset on the server, in this dataset I have a datatable that calls a stored procedure and returns column names from three tables. I call this stored procedure using a web service. I manage to show all the column names in my combobox but when I want to click a button and insert selected column name into a richtextbox I get System.Data.DataRowView in the textbox instead. My code: 'the combobox 'if I don't have this textblock all the values are shown vertical instead of the normal horizontal lines 'the stored procedure SELECT COLUMN_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE (TABLE_NAME = 'Customer') OR (TABLE_NAME = 'Invoices') OR (TABLE_NAME = 'Orders') 'the button Private Sub btnAddColumnNames_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles btnAddColumnNames.Click ' Add column names to the richtextbox Dim tr As New TextRange(rtbText.Selection.Start, rtbText.Selection.End) tr.Text = cboColumnNames.SelectedItem.ToString() rtbText.Focus() End Sub Any suggestions on how to get the selected text in the combobox to the richtextbox? Any help is appreciated.

  • Getting a ReturnValue from cmd.Parameters in c#?

    - by mark smith
Hi, I have just finished converted a vb.net app to c# and one of the lines is to get @ReturnValue from the parameter. I ended up having to CAST a lot of things.. Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

  • FileSearch strictness issue

    - by JakeTheSnake
I'm currently trying to search directories for any file labelled "??.??.????.xls" (for mm.dd.yyyy.xls). The problem I have is that the code I'm using also matches filenames such as "my-restaurant.12.01.2006.xls". I only want to match filenames with specifically the notation I used above. Dim Invoices As FileSearch Set Invoices = Application.FileSearch With Invoices .Filename = "??.??.????.xls" ' invDir is a directory I chose earlier on .LookIn = invDir .SearchSubFolders = True .MatchTextExactly = True End With Is there something I'm missing? I know I could do yet another check in my code elsewhere to make sure the filename's length is 14 characters, but is there a parameter I'm not considering in the FileSearch?

  • R webscraping: interrogating for date and importance

    - by adam.888
I am able to webscrape a table from a webpage containing news library(XML) webpage <- "http://www.tradingeconomics.com/calendar" tables <- readHTMLTable(webpage ) n.rows <- unlist(lapply(tables, function(t) dim(t)[1])) dfcal <- as.data.frame(tables$calendar) However I do not know how to interrogate for date or for importance. For example how could I webscrape news from Jan 2014? I am able to do this on the webpage by altering button settings, but how can I do it from within R? I was also not able to collect the importance column data. Also are there better ways for collecting economic news from within R? I have looked on http://www.rseek.org/ but could not find anything. Thank you for your help.

  • How to run a program on a specific remote computer

    - by lucc
Hi, I have got this working line of code I would like to run via VBScript a share program on a remote computer in a domain environment. The first part is ok where it is asking me to enter a computer name, but the problem is in the second part. I don't know how to run the program on the remote computer that I've entered in the first part. computer = inputbox ("What computer do you wish to check? (Press Enter if this computer)","Computer") set WMI = GetObject("WinMgmts://" & computer) If computer="" then computer = "this computer" Dim objShell Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject( "WScript.Shell" ) objShell.Run("""\\compname\Share\progr.exe""") Set objShell = nothing After running this script, it runs the program on my computer, not on the remote computer. • Inspecting a Word mail merge data source programmatically

    - by Guy Marom
I want to iterate over all rows of a MS-Word mail merge data source and extract the relevant data into an XML. I'm currently using this code: Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop Do objXW.WriteStartElement("Recipient") Dim objDataFields As Word.MailMergeDataFields = DataSource.DataFields For Each FieldIndex As Integer In mdictMergeFields.Keys strValue = objDataFields.Item(FieldIndex).Value If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(strValue) Then strName = mdictMergeFields(FieldIndex) objXW.WriteElementString(strName, strValue) End If Next objXW.WriteEndElement() If DataSource.ActiveRecord = LastRecord Then Exit Do Else DataSource.ActiveRecord = Word.WdMailMergeActiveRecord.wdNextDataSourceRecord End If Loop And it turns out to be a little sluggish (About 1 second for each row). Is there any way to do it faster? My fantasy is finding a function like MailMergeDataSource.ToDatatable and then inspecting the datatable.

  • How to solve the "Growing If Statement" problem?

    - by Achilles
I've been doing some reading about design patterns and wanted some perspective. Consider the following: Dim objGruntWorker as IGruntWorker if SomeCriteria then objGruntWorker = new GoFor() else if SomeOtherCriteria then objGruntWorker = new Newb() else if SomeCriteriaAndTheKitchenSink then objGruntWorker = new CubeRat() end if objGruntWorker.GetBreakfast() system.threading.thread.sleep(GetMilliSecondsFromHours(4)) objGruntWorker.GetLunch() The above code grows each time a new Criteria arises. I've seen code like this all over the place and in ignorance wrote some of it myself. How should this be solved? Does this kind of anti-pattern have a more "formal" name? Thanks for your help!

  • Problem with events and ParseControl

    - by Richard Edwards
I'm adding a control (linkbutton) dynamically using ParseControl and it's fine except when I specify an event handler. If I use: Dim c As Control = ParseControl("<asp:LinkButton id=""btnHide"" runat=""server"" text=""Hide"" OnClick="btnHide_Click" />") it correctly adds the control to the page but the click event doesn't fire. If instead I find the control in the controls collection and manually wire up the event it works fine. I've tried loading in both Page_Init and Page_Load and it's the same thing either way. Any ideas?

  • Excel vba: error hiding calculated field in Pivot table

    - by Patrick Honorez
I have written several Subs to show/hide fields in a PivotTable. Now I am trying to do the same with a calculated field, but I get an error when hiding it. I took my code from the recorder and the recorder's code also halts on the last line. I googled the error message, without serious result. Sub PrRemove() 'remove PR Dim pt As PivotTable Set pt = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("MyPivot") pt.PivotFields("MyField").Orientation = xlHidden '<- here is the error End Sub The same code works fine if MyField is a normal field (not a calculated one). I am using Excel 2007 with SP2. Any clue ?

  • How can I create a generic constructor? (ie. BaseClass.FromXml(<param>)

    - by SofaKng
I'm not sure how to describe this but I'm trying to create a base class that contains a shared (factory) function called FromXml. I want this function to instantiate an object of the proper type and then fill it via an XmlDocument. For example, let's say I have something like this: Public Class XmlObject Public Shared Function FromXml(ByVal source as XmlDocument) As XmlObject // <need code to create SPECIFIC TYPE of object and return it End Function End Class Public Class CustomObject Inherits XmlObject End Class I'd like to be able to do something like this: Dim myObject As CustomObject = CustomObject.FromXml(source) Is this possible?

  • Run batch file when argument contains quotes and spaces (from .NET framework)

    - by turtle
I have a bat file which sets some environment variables, and then executes a command on the command line. I want to replace the hard coded command with one passed in via a parameter. So: :: Set up the required environment SET some_var=a SET another_var=b CALL some.bat :: Now call the command passed into this batch file %1 The problem is that the command is complex, and doesn't escape cleanly. It looks like this: an.exe -p="path with spaces" -t="some text" -f="another path with spaces" I'm trying to call the .bat from a .NET framework app, using: Dim cmd as String = "the cmd" System.Diagnostics.Process.Start( thebat.exe, cmd ) but I can't seem to get the escapes to work correctly. Can someone tell me how the string cmd should be entetered to get the command passed into the bat file as an argument correctly?

  • How can I change my code in Excel 2003 to allow me to paste to multiple cells?

    - by PikeCoAL
Ran in to a little problem. If I try to paste to multiple cells that are in the range in the code below, I get a run time error 13, type mismatch. The cells in the range may have data other than X but I only want the hyperlink to appear if the cell contains X. It works fine if I just type an X in the cell or if I paste to one cell at a time. I will have times when I want to paste other text to mutiple cells in this range. Thanks to Remnant for his help on the original code. This one last hurdle will put me in the clear. Thx.
