  • Write file need to optimised for heavy traffic part 2

    - by Clayton Leung
    For anyone interest to see where I come from you can refer to part 1, but it is not necessary. write file need to optimised for heavy traffic Below is a snippet of code I have written to capture some financial tick data from the broker API. The code will run without error. I need to optimize the code, because in peak hours the zf_TickEvent method will be call more than 10000 times a second. I use a memorystream to hold the data until it reaches a certain size, then I output it into a text file. The broker API is only single threaded. void zf_TickEvent(object sender, ZenFire.TickEventArgs e) { outputString = string.Format("{0},{1},{2},{3},{4}\r\n", e.TimeStamp.ToString(timeFmt), e.Product.ToString(), Enum.GetName(typeof(ZenFire.TickType), e.Type), e.Price, e.Volume); fillBuffer(outputString); } public class memoryStreamClass { public static MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); } void fillBuffer(string outputString) { byte[] outputByte = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(outputString); memoryStreamClass.ms.Write(outputByte, 0, outputByte.Length); if (memoryStreamClass.ms.Length > 8192) { emptyBuffer(memoryStreamClass.ms); memoryStreamClass.ms.SetLength(0); memoryStreamClass.ms.Position = 0; } } void emptyBuffer(MemoryStream ms) { FileStream outStream = new FileStream("c:\\test.txt", FileMode.Append); ms.WriteTo(outStream); outStream.Flush(); outStream.Close(); } Question: Any suggestion to make this even faster? I will try to vary the buffer length but in terms of code structure, is this (almost) the fastest? When memorystream is filled up and I am emptying it to the file, what would happen to the new data coming in? Do I need to implement a second buffer to hold that data while I am emptying my first buffer? Or is c# smart enough to figure it out? Thanks for any advice

  • Why does JavaScript's getElementsByClassName provide an object that is NOT an array?

    - by Paragon
    I'm trying to get a list in JavaScript (not using jQuery) of all the elements on the page with a specific class name. I therefore employ the getElementsByClassName() function as follows: var expand_buttons = document.getElementsByClassName('expand'); console.log(expand_buttons, expand_buttons.length, expand_buttons[0]); Note that I have three anchor elements on my page with the class 'expand'. This console.log() outputs [] 0 undefined Next, for kicks, I threw expand_buttons into its own array as follows: var newArray = new Array(expand_buttons); console.log(newArray, newArray.length); This suddenly outputs [NodeList[3]] 1 and I can click through the nodelist and see the attributes of the three 'expand' anchor elements on the page. It's also worth noting that I was able to get my code working in a w3schools test page. It may also be of note that my use of document.getElementsByName actually does output (to the console) an array of elements, but when I ask for its length, it tells me 0. Similarly, if I try to access an array element using array_name[0] as normal, it outputs 'undefined', despite there clearly being an element inside of an array when I print the object to the console. Does anybody have any idea why this might be? I just want to loop through DOM elements, and I'm avoiding jQuery at the moment because I'm trying to practice coding with vanilla JavaScript. Thanks, ParagonRG

  • is it possible to write a program which prints its own source code utilizing a "sequence-generating-

    - by guest
    is it possible to write a program which prints its own source code utilizing a "sequence-generating-function"? what i call a sequence-generating-function is simply a function which returns a value out of a specific interval (i.e. printable ascii-charecters (32-126)). the point now is, that this generated sequence should be the programs own source-code. as you see, implementing a function which returns an arbitrary sequence is really trivial, but since the returned sequence must contain the implementation of the function itself it is a highly non-trivial task. this is how such a program (and its corresponding output) could look like #include <stdio.h> int fun(int x) { ins1; ins2; ins3; . . . return y; } int main(void) { int i; for ( i=0; i<size of the program; i++ ) { printf("%c", fun(i)); } return 0; } i personally think it is not possible, but since i don't know very much about the underlying matter i posted my thoughts here. i'm really looking forward to hear some opinions!

  • Rails: include index with fields_for form helper

    - by Patrick Oscity
    i'm trying to build two models from one form by using the fields_for method. my code looks like this: <% for scale in @event.scales %> <% f.fields_for "scale[]", scale do |scale_form| %> <p> Scale<br /> <%= scale_form.label :name %> <%= scale_form.text_field :name %> <%= scale_form.label :price %> <%= scale_form.text_field :price %> </p> <% end %> <% end %> but unfortunately the output html is missing the id's of the scales: <p> Scale<br /> <label for="event_scale__name">Name</label> <input id="event_scale__name" name="event[scale][][name]" size="30" type="text" /> <label for="event_scale__price">Price</label> <input id="event_scale__price" name="event[scale][][price]" size="30" type="text" /> </p> ... here's the corresponding controller and model: class EventsController < ApplicationController ... def new @event = Event.new @providers = Provider.find(:all, :order => :name) 3.times { @event.scales.build } respond_to do |format| format.html end end ... end class Event < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :scales ... end what am i doing wrong?

  • How do I get rid of this "(" using regex?

    - by Solignis
    Hi there, I was moving along on a regex expression and I have hit a road block I can't seem to get around. I am trying to get rid of "(" in the middle of a line of text using regex, there were 2 but I figured out how to get the one on the end of the line. its the one in the middle I can hack out. Here is the snippet I am searching for in the config file. I put 2 examples. guestOSAltName = "Ubuntu Linux (64-bit)" guestOSAltName = "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" Here is the snippet I am working on. if ($vmx_file =~ m/^\bguestOSAltName\b\s+\S\s+\W(?<GUEST_OS> .+[^")])\W/xm) { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "$+{GUEST_OS}"; } else { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "N/A"; } I am thinking the problem is I cannot make a match to "(" because the expression before that is to ".+" so that it matches everything in the line of text, be it alphanumeric or whitespace or even symbols like hypens. Any ideas how I can get this to work? This is what I am getting for an output from a hash dump. $VAR1 = { 'NS02' => { 'ID' => '144', 'Version' => '7', 'OS' => 'Ubuntu Linux (64-bit', 'VMX' => '/vmfs/volumes/datastore2/NS02/NS02.vmx', 'Architecture' => '64-bit' },

  • OOP/MVC advice on where to place a global helper function

    - by franko75
    Hi, I have a couple of controllers on my site which are handling form data. The forms use AJAX and I have quite a few methods across different controllers which are having to do some specific processing to return errors in a JSON encoded format - see code below. Obviously this isn't DRY and I need to move this code into a single helper function which I can use globally, but I'm wondering where this should actually go! Should I create a static helper class which contains this function (e.g Validation::build_ajax_errors()), or as this code is producing a format which is application specific and tied into the jQuery validation plugin I'm using, should it be a static method stored in, for example, my main Website controller which the form handling controllers extend from? //if ajax request, output errors if (request::is_ajax()) { //need to build errors into array form for javascript validation - move this into a helper method accessible globally $errors = $post->errors('form_data/form_error_messages'); $i = 0; $new_errors = array(); foreach ($errors as $key => $value) { $new_errors[$i][0] = '#' . $key; $new_errors[$i][1] = $value; $new_errors[$i][2] = "error"; $i++; } echo '{"jsonValidateReturn":' . json_encode($new_errors) . '}'; return; }

  • Unexpected results when looking at ASCII codes in C++.

    - by Columbo
    Hello, The bit of code below is extracting ASCII codes from characters. When I convert characters in the normal ASCII region I get the value I expect. When I convert £ and € from the extened region I get a load of 1's padding the INT that I'm storing the character in. e.g. the output of the below is: 45 (ascii E as expected) FFFFFF80 (extended ascii € as expected but padded with ones) It's not causing me an issue but I'm just wondering why this happens. Here's the code... unsigned int asciichar[3]; string cTextToEncode = "E€"; for (unsigned int i = 0; i < cTextToEncode.length(); i++) { asciichar[i] = (unsigned int)cTextToEncode[i]; cout << hex << asciichar[i] << "\n"; } Can anyone explain why this is? Thanks

  • How To Run MSBuild scripts in .wixproj?

    - by hisoka21
    Im trying to learn to make a web installer using Windows Installer XML (WIX 3.5). I found this blog about using msbuild in .wixproj files to avoid the scenario where the installer ends up dropping the web project assemblies right in the root of the app instead of keeping them in the bin folder like they're supposed to be. Here is the link to that: <http://www.paraesthesia.com/archive/2010/07/30/how-to-consume-msdeploy-staged-web-site-output-in-a.aspx But after adding the MSBuild scripts in the .wixproj file, I don't know what to do anymore. According to the instruction after adding the MSBuild script: "When that target runs, you'll see a .wxs file pop out in the .wixproj project folder. Add the generated .wxs to your .wixproj project so it knows to include it in the build." I really don7t know what this means. How can I run the target? I tried to build it but there was no .wxs file generated in the .wixproj folder. Am I missing something? Please help...

  • Whats wrong with this method?

    Here's the method: public static String CPUcolor () { System.out.println ("What color am I?") ; String s = getIns() ; System.out.println ("are you sure I'm "+s+"? (Y/N)") ; String a = getIns() ; while (!((a.equals ("y")) || (a.equals ("Y")) || (a.equals ("n")) || (a.equals ("N")))) { System.out.println ("try again") ; a = getIns () ; } if (a.equals ("n") || a.equals("N")) {CPUcolor() ;} System.out.println ("I am "+s) ; return s ; } here is a possible output of this method (y's and n's are user inputs): What color am I? red are you sure I'm red? (Y/N) N What color am I? blue are you sure I'm blue? (Y/N) N What color am I? Yellow are you sure I'm Yellow? (Y/N) y I am Yellow I am blue I am red Why is it that the line's "I am blue" and "I am Blue" printed? Why are they printed in reverse order with red, the first entered, printed last?

  • Problem validating an XSD file: The content type of a derived type and that of its base must both be mixed or both be element-only

    Hi, I have following XML schema: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <schema xmlns:netconf="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:netconf:base:1.0" targetNamespace="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:netconf:base:1.0" ... <complexType name="dataInlineType"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="xs:anyType"/> </xs:complexContent> </complexType> <complexType name="get-config_output_type__" > <complexContent> <extension base="netconf:dataInlineType"> <sequence> <element name="data"> <complexType> <sequence> <element name="__.get-config.output.data.A__" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" /> </sequence> </complexType> </element> <element name="__.get-config.A__" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded"/> </sequence> </extension> </complexContent> And I getting the folling error: cos-ct-extends.1.4.3.2.2.1.a: The content type of a derived type and that of its base must both be mixed or both be element-only. Type 'get-config_output_type__' is element only, but its base type is not.   • C++ Suppress Automatic Initialization and Destruction

    - by Travis G
    How does one suppress the automatic initialization and destruction of a type? While it is wonderful that T buffer[100] automatically initializes all the elements of buffer, and destroys them when they fall out of scope, this is not the behavior I want. #include <iostream> static int created = 0, destroyed = 0; struct S { S() { ++created; } ~S() { ++destroyed; } }; template <typename T, size_t KCount> class Array { private: T m_buffer[KCount]; public: Array() { // some way to suppress the automatic initialization of m_buffer } ~Array() { // some way to suppress the automatic destruction of m_buffer } }; int main() { { Array<S, 100> arr; } std::cout << "Created:\t" << created << std::endl; std::cout << "Destroyed:\t" << destroyed << std::endl; return 0; } The output of this program is: Created: 100 Destroyed: 100 I would like it to be: Created: 0 Destroyed: 0 My only idea is to make m_buffer some trivially constructed and destructed type like char and then rely on operator[] to wrap the pointer math for me, although this seems like a horribly hacked solution. Another solution would be to use malloc and free, but that gives a level of indirection that I do not want.

  • multiple ajax request to action in asp.net mvc

    - by persian Dev
    I am developing an asp.net mvc application and have ajax calls on my page. Here is a form which I load by ajax call to page : The form is located in a partial view <div id="CreateCultureArea"> <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("CreateCulture", "Admin", new AjaxOptions() { OnSuccess = "handleCreateCulture" })) { %> ..... <% } %> </div> The following script is located in a view $('.CreateCulture').live('click', function (e) { e.preventDefault(); var idval = this.id; $.ajax({ url: "/Admin/CreateCulture", dataType: 'html', data: { id: idval }, success: function (mydata) { $("#CultureContentArea").empty(); $("#CultureContentArea").empty().hide().append(mydata).fadeIn(2000); $("form").removeData("validator"); $("form").removeData("unobtrusiveValidation"); $.validator.unobtrusive.parse("form"); }, type: "GET" }); return false; }) </script> When users click on a link with CreateCulture class, the form is loaded to page. But as I saw the requests in firebug, it calls the action multiple times. I read similar posts like mine on stackoverflow.com and most of them suggested removing repetitive "jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.min.js" calss in page, but as I saw the output page I only see on link to the "jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.min.js" script.

  • jquery append() method on empty XML element

    - by Anthony
    This could just be a syntax error, but I'm trying to create a Document object from scratch, starting with document.implementation.createDocument() and then using jquery's append() method to add the elements. But it's not appending: var myDoc = document.implementation.createDocument("", 'stuff', null); $("stuff",myDoc).attr("test","tested"); $("stuff",myDoc).append("<test>A</test>"); $("<test>B</test>").appendTo("stuff",soapEnv); var s = new XMLSerializer(); alert(s.serializeToString(soapEnv)); This should output: <stuff test="tested"> <test>A</test> <test>B</test> </stuff> But instead it outputs: <stuff test="tested" /> So the selector seems to be working, just not the method. My only guess is the method doesn't account for the fact that elements are empty (<stuff />) until they have children. But that's just a guess.

  • Selectively search and replace certain lines using a regular expression

    - by eneveu
    I have a file containing a lot of SQL statements, such as: CREATE TABLE "USER" ( "ID" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, "NAME" CHARACTER VARYING(50) NOT NULL, "AGE" INTEGER NOT NULL ); COPY "USER" (id, name, age) FROM stdin; 1 Skywalker 19 2 Kenobi 57 I want the column names in the COPY statements to be uppercased and quoted: COPY "USER" ("ID", "NAME", "AGE") FROM stdin; Using sed, I found the following regexp: sed -r 's/([( ])(\w+)([,)])/\1"\U\2\E"\3/g' It does replace the column names, but it is not selective enough, and replaces other words in the file: ~/test]$sed -r 's/([( ])(\w+)([,)])/\1"\U\2\E"\3/g' star_wars_example CREATE TABLE "USER" ( "ID" INTEGER PRIMARY "KEY", "NAME" CHARACTER VARYING("50")NOT "NULL", "AGE" INTEGER NOT NULL ); COPY "USER" ("ID", "NAME", "AGE") FROM stdin; 1 Skywalker 19 2 Kenobi 57 To avoid this problem, I want sed to only apply my regexp to the lines starting with COPY and ending with FROM stdin;. I have looked into lookahead / lookbehind, but they are not supported in sed. They seem to be supported in super-sed, but I am currently using Cygwin (Windows is mandatory here...) and it does not seem available in the package list. Is there a way to force sed to only consider specific line? I've considered piping my file through grep before applying sed, but other lines will then disappear from the output. Am I missing something obvious? It would be great if the answer was easily applicable on a default Cygwin install. I guess I could try installing super-sed on cygwin, but I'd like to know if there are more obvious ideas

  • Greasemonkey failing to GM_setValue()

    - by HonoredMule
    I have a Greasemonkey script that uses a Javascript object to maintain some stored objects. It covers quite a large volume of information, but substantially less than it successfully stored and retrieved prior to encountering my problem. One value refuses to save, and I can not for the life of me determine why. The following problem code: Works for other larger objects being maintained. Is presently handling a smaller total amount of data than previously worked. Is not colliding with any function or other object definitions. Can (optionally) successfully save the problem storage key as "{}" during code startup. this.save = function(table) { var tables = this.tables; if(table) tables = [table]; for(i in tables) { logger.log(this[tables[i]]); logger.log(JSON.stringify(this[tables[i]])); GM_setValue(tables[i] + "_" + this.user, JSON.stringify(this[tables[i]])); logger.log(tables[i] + "_" + this.user + " updated"); logger.log(GM_getValue(tables[i] + "_" + this.user)); } } The problem is consistently reproducible and the logging statments produce the following output in Firebug: Object { 54,10 = Object } // Expansion shows complete contents as expected, but there is one oddity--Firebug highlights the array keys in purple instead of the usual black for anonymous objects. {"54,10":{"x":54,"y":10,"name":"Lucky Pheasant"}} // The correctly parsed string. bookmarks_HonoredMule saved undefined I have tried altering the format of the object keys, to no effect. Further narrowing down the issue is that this particular value is successfully saved as an empty object ("{}") during code initialization, but skipping that also does not help. Reloading the page confirms that saving of the nonempty object truly failed. Any idea what could cause this behavior? I've thoroughly explored the possibility of hitting size constraints, but it doesn't appear that can be the problem--as previously mentioned, I've already reduced storage usage. Other larger objects save still, and the total number of objects, which was not high already, has further been reduced by an amount greater than the quantity of data I'm attempting to store here.

  • How to handle build rule with unknown targets in OMake when target list generator is built

    - by Michael E
    I have a project which uses OMake for its build system, and I am trying to handle a rather tough corner case. I have some definition files and a tool which can take these definition files and create GraphViz files. There are two problems, though: Each definition file can produce multiple graphs, and the list of graphs it can produce is encoded in the file. My dump tool does have a -list option which lists all the graphs a definition file will produce. This dump tool is built in the source tree. I want this list available in the OMakefile so I can use other rules to convert the DOT files to SVG, and have a phony target depend on all the SVGs (goal: a single build command which builds SVG descriptions of all my graphs). If I only had the first problem, it would be easy - I would run the tool to build a list, and then use that list to build a target which invokes the dumper to output the GraphViz files. However, I am rather stuck on forcing the dump tool to be built before it is needed. If this were make, I would just run make recursively to build the dump tool. OMake does not allow recursive invocation, however, and the build function is only usable from osh. Any suggestions for a good solution to this problem?

  • Grouping arrays with consecutive keys

    - by KPL
    Hello people, I've an array like this - Array ( [16] => 424 [17] => 404 [18] => 416 [21] => 404 [22] => 456 [23] => 879 [28] => 456 [29] => 456 [32] => 123 [35] => 465 ) The output of this array would be Array ( [0] => Array ( ['start'] => 16 ['stop'] => 18 ) [1] => Array ( ['start'] => 21 ['stop'] => 23 ) [2] => Array ( ['start'] => 28 ['stop'] => 29 ) [3] => Array ( ['start'] => 32 ['stop'] => 33 ) [4] => Array ( ['start'] => 35 ['stop'] => 36 ) ) I don't really need the values. Just grouping the keys. And if consecutive integer doesn't exist for a particular key(like for [32] and [35]), 'stop' should be the consecutive integer. Thank you all for help.

  • Cross-platform build UNC share (Windows->Linux) - possible to be case-sensitive on CIFS share?

    - by holtavolt
    To optimize builds between Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 10.04), I've got a UNC share of the source tree that is shared between systems, and all build output goes to local disk on each system. This mostly works great, as source updates and changes can quickly be tested on both systems, but there's one annoying limitation I can't find a way around, which is that the Linux CIFS mount is case-insensitive. Consequently, a test compile of code that has an error like: #include "Foo.h" for a file foo.h, will not be caught by a test build (until a local compile is done on the Linux box, e.g. nightly builds) Is it possible to have case-sensitivity of the Windows UNC share on the Linux box? I've tried a variety of fstab and mount combinations with no success, as well as editing the smb.config to set "case sensitive = yes" Given what the Ubuntu man page info states on this: nocase Request case insensitive path name matching (case sensitive is the default if the server suports it). I suspect that this is a limitation from the Windows UNC side, and there's nothing to be done short of switching to some other mechanism (is NFS still viable anywhere?) If anyone has already solved this to support optimized cross-platform build environments, I'd appreciate hearing about it!

  • Encrypt correctly caracters in a PHP mail form ("I'm" turns to be "I\'m")

I know it have to do with the way PHP distinguishes code quotes from only lecture quotes, but I wouldn't know what to add in my form to get it properly running. Any help is appreciated,

(on click the vote gets registered on the webhost, but the results just don't show!) heres my code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getVote(int) { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { document.getElementById("poll").innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText; } } xmlhttp.open("GET","http://pacontest.eu.pn/poll_vote.php?vote="+int,true); xmlhttp.send(); } </script> <div id="poll"> <h3>Do you like this?</h3> <form> Yes: <input type="radio" name="vote" value="0" onclick="getVote(this.value)" /> No: <input type="radio" name="vote" value="1" onclick="getVote(this.value)" /> </form> </div>

  • Convert a image to a monochrome byte array

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I am writing a library to interface C# with the EPL2 printer language. One feature I would like to try to implement is printing images, the specification doc says p1 = Width of graphic Width of graphic in bytes. Eight (8) dots = one (1) byte of data. p2 = Length of graphic Length of graphic in dots (or print lines) Data = Raw binary data without graphic file formatting. Data must be in bytes. Multiply the width in bytes (p1) by the number of print lines (p2) for the total amount of graphic data. The printer automatically calculates the exact size of the data block based upon this formula. I plan on my source image being a 1 bit per pixel bmp file, already scaled to size. I just don't know how to get it from that format in to a byte[] for me to send off to the printer. I tried ImageConverter.ConvertTo(Object, Type) it succeeds but the array it outputs is not the correct size and the documentation is very lacking on how the output is formatted. My current test code. Bitmap i = (Bitmap)Bitmap.FromFile("test.bmp"); ImageConverter ic = new ImageConverter(); byte[] b = (byte[])ic.ConvertTo(i, typeof(byte[])); Any help is greatly appreciated even if it is in a totally different direction.

  • Java: Copying an exe-file and launching afterwards fails

    - by Philip
    Hi, I want to copy an existing .exe-file from one directory to another and launch it afterwards with Java. Like this: FileIO.copy( new File( sourceFile ), new File( targetFile ) ); System.out.println( "Existing: " + new File( targetFile ).exists() ); System.out.println( "Launching " + targetFile ); String cmd[] = { targetFile }; Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( cmd ); p.waitFor(); System.out.println( "Result: " + p.exitValue() ); The output is like this: Existing: true Launching C:\test\Launcher.new.exe Result: 2 So Java says that the file is valid and existing, but Windows just can't launch the process because it thinks the file is not there. The pathes are absolute and with backslashes. I also have all permissions on the files so I'm allowed to execute them. The Launcher.new.exe is generated by Launch4j, so it's more or less standalone. At least it doesn't depend on DLLs in the same folder. But strange: It works when I copy and launch the notepad.exe. One more strange thing: If I don't copy the file by Java but by hand, the launching also fails with the same error. OS is Vista with SP1. Any clue?

  • Nested <ul><li> navigation menu using a recursive Python function

    - by Alex
    Hi. I want to render this data structure as an unordered list. menu = [ [1, 0], [2, 1], [3, 1], [4, 3], [5, 3], [6, 5], [7,1] ] [n][0] is the key [n][1] references the parent key The desired output is: <ul> <li>Node 1</li> <ul> <li>Node 2</li> <li>Node 3</li> <ul> <li>Node 4</li> <li>Node 5</li> <ul> <li>Node 6</li> </ul> </ul> <li>Node 7</li> </ul> </ul> I could probably do this without recursion but that would be no fun. Unfortunately, I am having problems putting it all together. I don't have much experience with recursion and this is proving to be very difficult for me to build and debug. What is the most efficient way to solve this problem in Python? Thanks!
