  • How do I set up an sftp user to login with a password to an EC2 ubuntu server ?

    - by Doron
Hello, I have an Ubuntu Server running on an EC2 instance. To login to that server I use a certificate file without any password. I've installed and configured vsftpd and created a user (let's call him "testuser") for which I've set a /bin/false ssh terminal so it will only be able to connect via sftp and upload/access files on his home directory. However - when I try to connect to the server from my computer, running sftp testuser@my-ec2-server I get Permission denied (publickey). Connection closed messages so I can't log in. How can I remove the certificate requirement for this user only (meaning, the "ubuntu" user will still have to use the certificate file to login via ssh), so normal sftp clients will be able to connect using a username and a password ? Thank you. PS Using Ubuntu Server 10.10 official AMI from canonical, 64bit on a micro instance.

  • How can I remove the ssh last login info?

    - by Gnijuohz
Whenever I log into a server using ssh. The prompt gives me "last login" information. I was wondering where this information comes from. How can I remove this record so when someone else log into the same server, the person would see my login info with my ip in it? So how can I do this? For the record, I am not hacking someone's computer and the server runs Ubuntu 12.04. EDIT: which file logs this kind of information? If I find the file, then I can do anything to it as root. Thanks.

  • How do I login as a different user on Mac OS X Lion?

    - by CrabbyAdmin
I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion which has a single local user (the local administrator account that I setup) and then the domain user setup on the laptop. I've gone into "Login Options" under System Preferences Users & Groups and set the option "Display login window as: Name and password". When the laptop first boots, it has automatically selected the local admin account, and I don't see where I have the option to change users. However, when if I log into that local administrator account and then log out (without rebooting) it will allow me to enter the user and password.

  • I've got very brazen pop3 attack how to protect the server?

    - by Ken Tang
Today I have brazen attack to my pop3-dovecot server and mail log is full over (200MB) with this kind of information: Nov 11 09:28:14 lax dovecot: pop3-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<shawn>, method=PLAIN, rip=200.233.152.111, lip=myip Nov 11 09:28:14 lax dovecot: pop3-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<shop>, method=PLAIN, rip=200.233.152.111, lip=myip Nov 11 09:28:14 lax dovecot: pop3-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<sitetest>, method=PLAIN, rip=200.233.152.111, lip=myip Nov 11 09:28:14 lax dovecot: pop3-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<solar>, method=PLAIN, rip=200.233.152.111, lip=myip Nov 11 09:28:15 lax dovecot: pop3-login: Aborted login (auth failed, 1 attempts): user=<services>, method=PLAIN, rip=200.233.152.111, lip=myip I just blocked attacker's ip by iptables -A INPUT -s 200.233.152.111 -j DROP But it this can be continued anytime from other ips. My question is: Is there any method to disallow anyone to connect my pop3 server (except only me?) because my ip is dynamic from ISP side so I don't know how to make pop3 server know that it is exactly me connecting to. Thank you in advance!

  • Is it possible to remotely login to one domain from another (there is a trust created between them)

    - by Joe
Two AD server representing a domain each in one forest. There is a 2-way Forest-wide trust created between them, but users of one domain cannot remotely login to a machine in another domain. But a share is accessbile from another domain, confirming that the trust is created. Can users remotely login from one domain to another domain? If so, how? Testing environment very simple: W2k3 server (AD server) : Domain : XYZ.com Machines : xp,vista users : u1,u2 w2k8 server (AD server) : Domain : ABC.com users : u3,u4 Connect remotely to xp machine (RDP). use user credential of u1/u2. - able to connect use user credential of u3/u4. - not able to connect

  • What is the easiest way to copy Chrome's login/passses into KeePass without creating duplicates?

    - by ldigas
Okey, here's the thing. I have most of my login info in two places; one is in Keepass file and the other is in Chrome. Being a lazy sort of person, and since Chrome/Keepass integration never really started to work the way it should, a couple times a year I use the Nirsoft tool to get the Chrome login/passwords into a textual .csv file and then import it in Keepass. Creating lots of duplicates in the process which I then clean and so on. In the meantime, all the new logins I accumulate just stay in Chrome. As you might notice, this is not really the best way to do it. Is there a faster way to do this; copy logins from Chrome to Keepass without creating duplicates in Keepass, or has anyone perhaps found a way to get Keepass to work with Chrome under Win XP SP3? Keepass 1.0 or 2.0, doesn't make the difference as long as it works.

  • Roaming Profile to act as a redirected folder? Dropbox in roaming profile is also causing slow login/logou

    - by user147069
As title, what I'm wondering to know is .. if the roaming profile with Windows 2008 R2 Server (I'm talking about V2 profile - Windows7/Windows8) can work as a redirected folder (it can be done with the Desktop, Contacts, Download, AppData, My Documents). The roaming profile is copied at each login (server - client) and at each logout (client - server). This is causing slow login and logout for huge roaming profile. I can't stop the usage of roaming profile since the environment is a School with 1000 users. But I have big issues with users who populate the profile path (which is mapped on "User's File" under Windows7/8) with other stuff than the already redirected Desktop and My Document. A typical problem is given by the Dropbox folder... Any solution?

  • Permission issues causes Unity Segmentation fault

    - by Dj Gilcrease
I upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and I can boot to the unity-greeter and login just fine, but after login I just get a black screen with a cursor. I have tried following http://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI http://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver and the manual install of the downloaded AMD drivers. All have the same affect. Also I have read Black screen after login with cursor I get a black screen after logging in ubuntu 13.04 black screen after login Ubuntu 13.10 - Black screen after login session Ubuntu 13.04 - Black screen with unresponsive cursor Upgrade to Ubuntu 13.04 Problem - Boots into Blank Black Screen All of which were no further help then the two support articles about ATI drivers So I switched back to the default drivers and went a little further into debugging, when I do ctrl+alt+F1 and login and try unity --debug > unity_start.log then ctrl+alt+F8 the screen stays black with a cursor and when I switch back ctrl+alt+F1 the contents of the log output are http://pastebin.com/rdQG4Hb0 However when I try sudo unity --debug > unity_start_root.log then ctrl+alt+F8, unity starts and the output of the log is http://pastebin.com/Yv4RD2j7 The fact that it starts as root tells be it is either a permissions issue of some required file or there is some setting that is specific to my user that is causing the SIGSEGV. So to narrow this down I activated the guest account and tried to login and got the same black screens with only a mouse cursor, so this tells me that it is not a configuration issue, but a permissions issue, so how do I narrow down which file has the wrong permissions? Also is there anything further that may help debug this issue? Ok after a few more hours of googling I found that if I add myself to the video group I can login and see the desktop, but there are lots of other permission related issues, so I am thinking something went wonky with PolicyKit during the upgrade, is there a way to reset PolicyKit settings for a user?

  • Spring 3 Security Authentication Success Handler

    - by Eqbal
I am using form-login for security and I am trying to implement an authentication success handler, but I am not sure how to go back to the resource that was initially requested before the login process. By default I think it implements a SimpleUrlAuthenticationSuccessHandler and I tried to mirror that class implementation. But it sets a setDefaultTargetUrl(defaultTargetUrl) and perhaps thats where the magic happens that it remembers the resource to go back to after the login process. Any help is greatly appreciated. Below is my spring security <form-login/> element <form-login login-page="/login.jsp" login-processing-url="/b2broe_login" authentication-success-handler-ref="passwordExpiredHandler" authentication-failure-url="/login.jsp?loginfailed=true" />

  • apache mod_rewrite rule in httpd.conf for modifying some paths, but not others

    - by wallyk
I'm having quite a challenge creating an appropriate rewrite rule for Apache/2.2.14 on Fedora 10. I'm working through the CodeIgniter-Doctrine tutorial which uses an .htaccess file. (Search for Removing “index.php” from CodeIgniter urls about 10% down.) But since that's not recommended for a production server, I'm trying to tweak it to work in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName ci_doctrine DocumentRoot /var/www/html/ci_doctrine ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/cid-error_log CustomLog /var/log/httpd/cid-access_log common <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteLog /var/log/httpd/cid_rewrite RewriteLogLevel 9 # RewriteCond ^/css/style.css$ (these have bad syntax, but that's beside the point) # RewriteRule ^/css/style.css$ /css/style.css [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] </IfModule> <IfModule !mod_rewrite.c> ErrorDocument 404 /ci_doctrine/index.php </IfModule> </VirtualHost> It seems like the tutorial .htaccess rules properly test for existing files and then not alter the URL in such cases, but the rewrite log says that the conditions are true (that is, the file does not exist) even though it's there. 127.0.0.1 - But now the path is always munged up by the rewriting, though the virtual components below index.php are properly translated. What am I doing wrong?

  • Host a streaming video in my client, from a streaming url that is behind a login session?

    - by Vin
I am building a Silverlight 4 desktop client to show streaming video from a site that is login based. So that website has a Silverlight player that does streaming video, the player is behind a login sesion, so just by getting the url from fiddler and trying to play it in my Silverlight 4 desktop client won't work. Actually after that, I want to build a Windows Media Center plugin to build a Netflix-like client, that allows login through WMC and then allows you to watch streaming video. Any pointers on how to go about doing any of this?

    - by MikeN
On iPhone, how do I show a login screen to get username and password before giving access to iPhone app? Also, does the iPhone store a cookie to the secure website like a web browser? I was thinking of giving users to my website a long API key to store in the settings of their iPhone instead of asking them to login with a username/password (seems to be the Slicehost iPhone app approach.) Which is the best way to get a user to login securely? I have full control over the design of the iPhone app and website so have a lot of flexibility.

  • routing problem in codeigniter

    - by Obay
I'm new to CodeIgniter and routing. I have a Login controller whose index() loads up a view to enter a username/password. In the view, the form has action="login/authenticate". Login-authenticate() determines if the login is valid or not. If it's valid, redirect('lobby'), if not redirect('login') routes.php: $route['default_controller'] = "login" config.php: $config['base_url'] = "http://localhost/dts/"; $config['index_page'] = "index.php"; The problem is that when i go to http://localhost/dts/ , click login, I am correctly (?) redirected to http://localhost/dts/login/authenticate but the browser says Object not found!. But when I go to http://localhost/dts/index.php/ (with trailing slash), it works correctly (I get redirected to http://localhost/dts/index.php/login/authenticate, and am logged in) I tried removing "index.php" by using a .htaccess: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|robots\.txt) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] and it would no longer open even the http://localhost/dts/ I'm confused.. what's going on?

  • Php deliberately awkward?

    - by Jonathan
I'm trying to create a login process (as people who have answered my previous question will know) But it seems impossible to create one process that will work with a desktop app and a standard website. Instead I have the login function in Usermanagement.php (which is a class, icyntk) but then in another php file (api/login.php) I have: <?php require_once '../usermanagement.php'; $m = new usermanage(); echo $m->login($_POST['username'], $_POST['password']); ?> And then I will still need to make another login.php just to be used with the login form on the website. As I can't see anyway to get the result (the echo) of the api/login.php script from the index.php file (where the login form is, it only has HTML in though) Is there anyway I can simplify this so I only need one login.php?

  • Bypass OpenID. Please give us a simple login form.

    - by Florin
Can I kindly ask that we're allowed to login without the OpenID nonsense? This system is so popular that stack-overflow is the only place that I use it. If it is the policy of stack-overflow to prevent people to login, they've succeeded. I am a passive reader. For some reasons, I really don't like the idea of having one Id for all sites. To me, this system is dead in the water. Unless used within organizations I will never use it. Of course, until the government decides to reign us all in. Will you give them a hand? Until then, can we simply have a login form as in 1995? Thank you for your consideration.

  • Sinatra: How do I provide access to a login form while preventing access to the rest of my Sinatra a

    - by Brandon Toone
I recently created a Sinatra app with a login form (no basic auth). To prevent access to the app unless the user logged in I put a before block in place before do unless request.path_info == '/login' authenticated? end end I quickly realized that this prevented me from accessing resources in the public directory like my style sheet and logo unless authenticated first as well. To get around that I changed my filter to the following: before do unless request.path_info == '/login' || request.path_info == "/stylesheets/master.css" || request.path_info == "/images/logo.png" authenticated? end end If there were lots of resources I needed to provide exceptions to this way of making them would quickly become overwhelming. What is a better way to code this so I can make exceptions for the public directory or even its specific sub-directories and files like /stylesheets, /images, /images/bg.png but not /secret or /secret/eyes-only.pdf? Or ... Is there a completely different best-practice to handle this situation of locking down everything except the stuff related to logging in (handlers, views, resources)?

  • How do I retain a requested url with parameters after redirecting to a login page?

    - by Brent Parker
I have been asked to set up some authentication for some content on our website using JSP. What I would like to do seems simple to me but I can't quite figure out how to do it in JSP. What I would like to do is this: When a user requests a page that you must be logged in to see, I have a tag that checks their cookies for an authentication token. If it is not there, they are redirected to a login page. After they log in, I want to redirect them back to the page they first requested along with any parameters they were sending. Now, I have the tag that is checking their authentication and redirecting them to the login page. That part is working just fine. But I'm not sure how to maintain the first requested url and parameters so they can be redirected after they login. How might I accomplish this?

Duplicate of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2803425 Hello, When a user enters his login information and hits submit, irrespective of whether the login credentials entered by the user were correct or not, i want my function to be called. In this function, i need the username entered by the user. I think i cannot use the login op of hook_user because its called only when the user has successfully logged in. So, how can i achieve the above functionality ? Some sample code would be really appreciated. Please help. Thank You.

  • Postfix log.... spam attempt?

    - by luri
I have some weird entries in my mail.log. What I'd like to ask is if postfix is avoiding correctly (according with the main.cf attached below) what seems to be relay attempts, presumably for spamming, or if I can enhance it's security somehow. • django {% tag %} problem

    - by Sevenearths
    I don't know if its me but {% tag ??? %} has bee behaving a bit sporadically round me (django ver 1.2.3). I have the following main.html file: <html> {% include 'main/main_css.html' %} <body> test! <a href="{% url login.views.logout_view %}">logout</a> test! <a href="{% url client.views.client_search_last_name_view %}">logout</a> </body> </html> with the urls.py being: from django.conf.urls.defaults import * import settings from login.views import * from mainapp.views import * from client.views import * # Uncomment the next two lines to enable the admin: from django.contrib import admin admin.autodiscover() urlpatterns = patterns('', # Example: # (r'^weclaim/', include('weclaim.foo.urls')), (r'^login/$', 'login.views.login_view'), (r'^logout/$', 'login.views.logout_view'), (r'^$', 'mainapp.views.main_view'), (r'^client/search/last_name/(A-Za-z)/$', 'client.views.client_search_last_name_view'), #(r'^client/search/post_code/(A-Za-z)/$', 'client.views.client_search_last_name_view'), # Uncomment the next line to enable the admin: (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), (r'^static/(?P<path>.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve',{'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT}), ) and the views.py for login being: from django.shortcuts import render_to_response, redirect from django.template import RequestContext from django.contrib import auth import mainapp.views def login_view(request): if request.method == 'POST': uname = request.POST.get('username', '') psword = request.POST.get('password', '') user = auth.authenticate(username=uname, password=psword) # if the user logs in and is active if user is not None and user.is_active: auth.login(request, user) return redirect(mainapp.views.main_view) else: return render_to_response('loginpage.html', {'login_failed': '1',}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) else: return render_to_response('loginpage.html', {'dave': '1',}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) def logout_view(request): auth.logout(request) return render_to_response('loginpage.html', {'logged_out': '1',}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) and the views.py for clients being: from django.shortcuts import render_to_response, redirect from django.template import RequestContext import login.views def client_search_last_name_view(request): if request.user.is_authenticated(): return render_to_response('client/client_search_last_name.html', {}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) else: return redirect(login.views.login_view) Yet when I login it django raises an 'NoReverseMatch' for {% url client.views.client_search_last_name_view %} but not for {% url login.views.logout_view %} Now why would this be?

  • ASP.NET MVC: How do I validate a model wrapped in a ViewModel?

    - by Deniz Dogan
For the login page of my website I would like to list the latest news for my site and also display a few fields to let the user log in. So I figured I should make a login view model - I call this LoginVM. LoginVM contains a Login model for the login fields and a List<NewsItem> for the news listing. This is the Login model: public class Login { [Required(ErrorMessage="Enter a username.")] [DisplayName("Username")] public string Username { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage="Enter a password.")] [DataType(DataType.Password)] [DisplayName("Password")] public string Password { get; set; } } This is the LoginVM view model: public class LoginVM { public Login login { get; set; } public List<NewsItem> newsItems { get; set; } } This is where I get stuck. In my login controller, I get passed a LoginVM. [HttpPost] public ActionResult Login(LoginVM model, FormCollection form) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { // What? In the code I'm checking whether ModelState is valid and this would work fine if the view model was actually the Login model, but now it's LoginVM which has no validation attributes at all. How do I make LoginVM "traverse" through its members to validate them all? Am I doing something fundamentally wrong using ModelState in this manner?
