  • Issue with setting up multiple IP addresses on ubuntu server installation

    - by varunyellina
I want to setup two ip addresses on my system for access through lan. This is my config on my other system. Desktop Installation My desktop installation runs with multiple IP's added through networkmanager both through lan and wifi. Server Installation On my server install I've edited /etc/network/interfaces to the following. auto eth0 auto eth0:1 # IP-1 iface eth0 inet static address 172.16.35.35 network 172.16.34.1 netmask 255.255.254.0 broadcast 172.166.35.255 dns-nameservers 172.16.100.221 8.8.8.8 # IP-2 iface eth0:1 inet static address 172.16.34.34 network 172.16.34.1 netmask 255.255.254.0 gateway 172.16.34.1 broadcast 172.16.35.255 After restarting through "/etc/init.d/networking restart" I recieve "Failed to bring up eth0:1" What am I doing wrong? Thankyou.

  • How do I start correctly in building database classes in c#?

    - by e4rthdog
I am new in C# programming and in OOP. I need to dive into web applications for my company, and I need to do it fast and correct. So even that I know ASP.NET MVC is the way to go, I want to start with some simple applications with ASP.NET Webforms and then advance to MVC logic. Also regarding my db classes: I plan to create common database classes in order to be able to use them either from WinForms or ASP.NET applications. I also know that the way to go is to learn about ORM and EF. BUT I also want to start from where I am feeling comfortable and that is the traditional ADO.NET way. So about my Data Access Layer classes: Should I return my results in datasets or arraylists/lists? Should my methods do their own connect/disconnect from the db, or have separate methods and let the application maintain the connection?

  • Set IP address to point to certain domain

    - by silvercover
I have a Linux VPS, DirectAdmin as web panel and already set a domain to it. everything is OK and I can see my website in my browser using domain name. Now I need to have access to my site using its IP address. something like http://86.57.88.29, but when I try to load my site in a browser using its IP I get below message and I have to post-fix my IP with /~admin (http://86.57.88.29/~admin) to get it work. This IP is being shared among many domains. To view the domain you are looking for, simply enter the domain name in the location bar of your web browser. So how can I configure my IP to point to my public_html folder without and ~admin like phrase? Thanks.

  • How do you put a database online?

    - by Dezrik
I have a very beginner question regarding web development. I've had some experience with JSP, Hibernate, and MAMP to create a simple system for tracking inventory and sales. But this was all done locally on one computer. This time, I want to create a system that could be accessible online. It's to help my mother track her business wherever she goes. So there would be similar aspects like tracking inventory and sales. I understand that you have to have a server in which to host all the files in. But I don't understand how you can access your database online. Or what sorts of applications or products should be used. Currently the host of my database is localhost. How do put it online such that you can still do CRUD operations? Are there any guides to do this?

  • Text Editor with SSH/Terminal/FTP/Putty combo for develeping in Rails on Windows

    - by Panoy
I plan to learn Ruby on Rails and would like to code in my development box which runs on Windows XP. I have Ubuntu Server (forgot the version ;p) running as my web server with Rails installed on it. I have been considering using Vim as my text editor of choice in XP but would like to know any text editor and accompanying shell/FTP/Putty/SSH (or whatever you may call it) program that can access those files in my Ubuntu server. It is better if the shell can be called or is bundled inside the text editor. I would like to know your combinations (text editor + shell) and your experiences on it when you were able to develop your Rails projects on that combination. Cheers!

  • Only recognizes one of multiple partitions on SD card

    - by Jay Ngo
Hello everybody, I split my sd card into 2 partitions. When i use usb-card-reader to read my sd card, only the one partition shows up on the screen, the other doesn't. I have run the command "sudo fdisk -l" and the result is the same, only one partition is recognized. But i do believe both partitions of my sd card work fine, because i still can boot my single-board computer with that sd card and run some programms, which are inside that unreadable partition. How can i access both partitions of my sd card? Does anyone know how to solve this kind of problem? I really appreciate your help.

  • Using my own code in freelance projects.

    - by Witchunter
I have been into freelance business for more than 2 years. While doing projects for other people, I've build a compilation of common tasks that I implement in projects and put them into code. It's kind of a library with some functions that I can reuse without having to rewrite the same thing dozen times. I'm talking about accessing Access databases, downloading information from FTP and similar stuff. Is this acceptable from a legal point of view? What's the difference in reusing the old code and rewriting it from the scratch (using you own brain again, therefore the exact same logic)? I do not hold any copyright to it, of course, and provide the source code for these classes to my clients.

  • What is the best way to bypass China firewall to allow SSH deploy@**.com

    - by Lap
I am trying to bypass the china firewall and allow SSH deploy@**.com at the command console. This is because I need to test the games I wrote on apps.facebook.com/**. I tried VPN (both pptp and openvpn), but they aren't that great as connection speed slows down significantly. Since I am deploying the game in another site, my browser needs to download the game, which is super slow. What are ways of bypassing the firewall other than getting a VPN? I was thinking maybe have a computer outside China and using teamviewer to access...

Heterogeneous data access requires having the right drivers. If you have to use 32-bit ODBC drivers, you won’t find then when you start the Microsoft ODBC Administrator because it is 64-bit. The 32-bit ODBC Administrator is found here: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe You might want to make a shortcut for it to make it easy to find. You’ll need to use it when make 32-bit ODBC data connections. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!...(read more)

  • HTG Explains: What is the Windows Page File and Should You Disable It?

    - by Chris Hoffman
Windows uses a page file to store data that can’t be held by your computer’s random-access memory when it fills up. While you can tweak the page file settings, Windows can manage the page file fine on its own. The Windows page file is somewhat misunderstood. People see it as the cause of slowdowns because it’s slower to use the page file than your computer’s RAM, but having a page file is better than not having one. • How prevent useless content load on the page in Responsive Design

    - by Ícaro Leandro
In Responsive Design, we hide elements in the page with @media queries and display: hide in the CSS. Ok, But in my system: Browsers that have less than width: 800px, the layout must hide some content, not only hide, but avoid them load fully. I mean, in access with desktop with more than 800px of screen, the page load fully; In mobile devices, or even in desktop with less than 800px, not load some content. I want to make the page load faster in this browsers. The system are maked in PHP and have some Javascript. Thanks...

  • When using membership provider, do you use the user ID or the username?

    - by Chris
I've come across this is in a couple of different applications that I've worked on. They all used the ASP.NET Membership Provider for user accounts and controlling access to certain areas, but when we've gotten down into the code I've noticed that in one we're passing around the string based user name, like "Ralph Waters", or we're passing around the Guid based user ID from the membership table. Now both seem to work. You can make methods which get by username, or get by user ID, but both have felt somewhat "funny". When you pass a string like "Ralph Waters" you're passing essentially two separate words that make up a unique identifier. And with a Guid, you're passing around a string/number combination which can be cast and made unique. So my question is this; when using Membership Provider, which do you use, the username or the user ID to get back to the user? Thanks all!

  • How can I mount an AFS filesystem?

    - by Ben
My current method is to mount the filesystem via SSH using Nautilus's graphical interface, but I would much prefer to be able to use some tool that mounts the AFS filesystem and gives me access to AFS-specific features (permissions, etc.). I've tried installing OpenAFS via apt-get, but so far the kernel module has refused to compile. Also, assuming I get OpenAFS installed, I'm not quite sure how to actually mount the remote filesystem to, say, /media/afs or some directory. I'm running Maverick with the 2.6.36-020636-generic kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Thanks for the help!

  • my wiki site using mediawiki - databases not found error

    - by Jayapal Chandran
I had been using mediawiki opensource in my website to display programming articles. Today i tried to access my site but it showed database not found. Mediawiki uses many databases. When i logged in my control panel and checked i can see that most of the databases created by mediawiki is missing so is the reason i am getting this error. I have used mediawiki for two different purposes. It is like two modules. For one the databases are missing and for the other i think the data is corrupt. Do anybody know any issue with mediawiki security or would this be a problem with the webhosting cause we have faced several problems with them initially like before three years and recently the were good. Yet this happened. I have requested to hosting company to look into it and meanwhile i am expecting the help from stackexchange users. How do i check the logs for table deletion?

  • How do I determine the draw order in an isometric view flash game?

    - by Gajet
This is for a flash game, with isometric view. I need to know how to sort object so that there is no need for z-buffer checking when drawing. This might seem easy but there is another restriction, a scene can have 10,000+ objects so the algorithm needs to be run in less than O(n^2). All objects are rectangular boxes, and there are 3-4 objects moving in the scene. What's the best way to do this? UPDATE in each tile there is only object (I mean objects can stack on top of each other). and we access to both map of Objects and Objects have their own position.

  • Installing Solaris Studio 12.2 on Ubuntu 10.04

    - by KronoS
I'm having a dickens of a time installing Solaris Studio 12.2 on Ubuntu 10.04. I found this guide, however using the alien option isn't finding the correct files. I'm not exactly sure on the syntax of alien, its kinda alien to me. (sorry for the bad pun) Also, when I download the tar file, and extract it, there are errors everytime saying things like: "operation not permitted" cannot creat symlink to '../prod/bin/cc': Operation not permitted I've extracted with super user access, but to no avail. Any success from anyone else?

  • Windows7 Gone after Ubuntu dual boot install

    - by Adi
I had a very hard time to dual boot install Ubuntu 12.04 Apparently, Ubuntu has restriction of 4 partitions and I already had 4, so it just couldn't recognise my partitions. This was something I realised too late, but finally got to install Ubuntu. Now, even though Windows 7 option is listed when I try to boot my laptop, it doesn't really let me boot and just loops back to begin. I tried windows repair DVD also, didn't work. I was fine with complete fresh install of windows too, but Windows CD didn't detect my Hard Disk Drive or any partitions (even though the original C drive with Windows is still an NTFS partition, according to gParted, and I can access the data from same using Ubuntu log in). My Ubuntu works fine, but I need windows log in also. Any suggestions anyone?

  • Bad Bot blocking Revisited

    - by Tom
I've read a lot about bad bot blocking, php scripts, .htaccess techniques, etc... Is this a valid method? Since .htacces can rewrite and send a bad bot a 403 deny or forward to something like spam poison, is it possible to Disallow a folder, then through .htaccess in that specific folder redirect to spampoison? Since Apache reads each .htaccess independently and follows specific instructions, then a bad bot not following robots.txt would just be redirected. Or anyone trying to access, /badbot/ or whatever I choose to call my trap folder. Thanks Tom

  • Stupid Geek Tricks: Disable Windows 7 Aero Peek in Two Clicks

This method only disables the setting in the lower-right. If you’d like to disable the taskbar thumbnail version of Aero Peek, you’ll need to read our article on the subject. • Why are Javascript for/in loops so verbose?

    - by Matthew Scharley
I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind why the language designers would make the for (.. in ..) loops so verbose. For example: for (var x in Drupal.settings.module.stuff) { alert("Index: " + x + "\nValue: " + Drupal.settings.module.stuff[x]); } It makes trying to loop over anything semi-complex like the above a real pain as you either have to alias the value locally inside the loop yourself, or deal with long access calls. This is especially painful if you have two to three nested loops. I'm assuming there is a reason why they would do things this way, but I'm struggling with the reasoning.
