  • Does GCC have a built-in compile time assert?

    - by VladLosev
Our existing compile-time assert implementation is based on negative array index, and it provides poor diagnostic output on GCC. C++0x's static_assert is a very nice feature, and the diagnostic output it provides is much better. I know GCC has already implemented some C++0x features. Does anyone know if static_assert is among them and if it is then since what GCC version?

  • HashMap.containsValue - What's the point?

    - by Frederik
I've got a HashMap and I need to fetch an item by its integer value. I notice there's a containsValue() function, but it would appear I still have to iterate through the map to find the correct index anyway. My question is; why use containsValue() if I'm required to traverse it afterwards? Also, am I missing the point completely? ;-)

  • Restricting Edit and Delete

    - by phleet
I want to be able to edit and delete resources myself, but not allow users of the application to do so. Is there an easy way of doing this in Rails? An incomplete solution would be just to remove the "delete" and "edit" buttons from the index view, but that doesn't disable their ability to do so via direct HTTP requests. Running Rails 2.2.2 and ruby 1.8.7

  • Dont understand the concept of extends in URL.openConnection() in JAVA

    - by user1722361
Hi I am trying to learn JAVA deeply and so I am digging into the JDK source code in the following lines: URL url = new URL("http://www.google.com"); URLConnection tmpConn = url.openConnection(); I attached the source code and set the breakpoint at the second line and stepped into the code. I can see the code flow is: URL.openConnection() - sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler.openConnection() I have two questions about this First In URL.openConnection() the code is: public URLConnection openConnection() throws java.io.IOException { return handler.openConnection(this); } handler is an object of URLStreamHandler, define as blow transient URLStreamHandler handler; But URLStreamHandler is a abstract class and method openConnection() is not implement in it so when handler calls this method, it should go to find a subclass who implement this method, right? But there are a lot classes who implement this methods in sun.net.www.protocol (like http.Hanlder, ftp.Handler ) How should the code know which "openConnection" method it should call? In this example, this handler.openConnection() will go into http.Handler and it is correct. (if I set the url as ftp://www.google.com, it will go into ftp.Handler) I cannot understand the mechanism. second. I have attached the source code so I can step into the JDK and see the variables but for many classes like sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler, there are not source code in src.zip. I googled this class and there is source code online I can get but why they did not put it (and many other classes) in the src.zip? Where can I find a comprehensive version of source code? Thanks!

  • mySQL: How many rows in a table before performance is affected?

    - by Industrial
Hi everybody, Is there a "known limit" for columns & rows in a mySQL table that when passed, it can be safe to say that performance is severely affected? I've think that I had heard that there is a "golden number" that you really dont want to exceed in either columns or rows in a table. - Or is it all about the size of the index and available RAM + CPU on the server? Thanks!

  • How to override 'where' in rails 3

    - by Zakwan Alhajjar
I have upgraded my application from rails 2.3.8 to 3.0.3 . But I'm facing a problem. I was using 'find' but the overriding doesn't work in rails 3: # override activerecord's find to allow us to find by name or id transparently def self.find(*args) if args.is_a?(Array) and args.first.is_a?(String) and (args.first.index(/[a-zA-Z\-_]+/) or args.first.to_i.eql?(0) ) find_by_login_slug(args) else super end end I'm wondering if there is a way to make this work in rails 3 or even by using where instead. thanks

  • PHP_AUTH_USER only known in certain frames

    - by Rob
Getting very confused by PHP_AUTH_USER. Within my web pages I have .htaccess files in every directory, controlling who can (and cant) see certain folders. In order to further customise the pages I was hoping to use PHP_AUTH_USER within the PHP code, i.e. tailor page contents based on the user. This only seems to work partially. The code snippets below hopefully demonstrate my problems. The main index.php creates a framed page with a menu structure in the top left hand corners, some irrelvant stuff in top right and then the tailor made contents in bottom frame. In top left the user is correctly shown, but in the bottom frame PHP_AUTH_USER doesnt seem to be set anymore (it returns empty and when printing all $HTTP_SERVER_VARS its not listed). Script.php is in a different path, but they all have .htaccess files in them and all other contents is displayed correctly. Why does it not know about PHP_AUTH_USER there? Running version php version 5.2.12 on chrome. index.php <FRAMESET ROWS="35%, *"> <FRAMESET COLS="25%, *"> <FRAME SRC="Menu.php"> <FRAME SRC="Something.php"> </FRAMESET> <FRAME SRC="../OtherPath/Script.php?large=1" name="outputlisting"> </FRAMESET> </FRAMESET> Menu.php <ul> <li>Reporting <ul> <li>Link1 <a href="../OtherPath/Script.php" target="outputlisting">All</a>, <a href="../OtherPath/Script.php?large=1" target="outputlisting">Big</a> </ul> <?php echo 'IP Address: ' . $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] . '<br />'; echo 'User: ' . $_SERVER['PHP_AUTH_USER']; ?> Script.php <?php echo 'User: ' . $_SERVER['PHP_AUTH_USER']; ?>

  • How can I measure my (SAMP) server's bandwidth usage?

    - by enkrates
I'm running a Solaris server to serve PHP through Apache. What tools can I use to measure the bandwidth my server is currently using? I use Google analytics to measure traffic, but as far as I know, it ignores file size. I have a rough idea of the average size of the pages I serve, and can do a back-of-the-envelope calculation of my bandwidth usage by multiplying page views (from Google) by average page size, but I'm looking for a solution that is more rigorous and exact. Also, I'm not trying to throttle anything, or implement usage caps or anything like that. I'd just like to measure the bandwidth usage, so I know what it is. An example of what I'm after is the usage meter that Slicehost provides in their admin website for their users. They tell me (for another site I run) how much bandwidth I've used each month and also divide the usage for uploading and downloading. So, it seems like this data can be measured, and I'd like to be able to do it myself. To put it simply, what is the conventional method for measuring the bandwidth usage of my server?
