  • GA written in Java

    - by EnderMB
    I am attempting to write a Genetic Algorithm based on techniques I had picked up from the book "AI Techniques for Game Programmers" that uses a binary encoding and fitness proportionate selection (also known as roulette wheel selection) on the genes of the population that are randomly generated within the program in a two-dimensional array. I recently came across a piece of pseudocode and have tried to implement it, but have come across some problems with the specifics of what I need to be doing. I've checked a number of books and some open-source code and am still struggling to progress. I understand that I have to get the sum of the total fitness of the population, pick a random number between the sum and zero, then if the number is greater than the parents to overwrite it, but I am struggling with the implementation of these ideas. Any help in the implementation of these ideas would be very much appreciated as my Java is rusty.

  • C++/MFC: Handling multiple CListCtrl's headers HDN_ITEMCLICK events

    - by raph.amiard
    I'm coding an MFC application in which i have a dialog box with multiple CListCtrls in report view. I want one of them to be sortable. So i handled the HDM_ITEMCLICK event, and everything works just fine .. Except that if i click on the headers of another CListCtrl, it does sort the OTHER CListCtrl, which does look kind of dumb. This is apparently due to the fact that headers have an ID of 0, which make the entry in the message map look like this : ON_NOTIFY(HDN_ITEMCLICK, 0, &Ccreationprogramme::OnHdnItemclickList5) But since all the headers have an id of zero, apparently every header of my dialog sends the message. Is there an easy way around this problem ?

  • Clojure: Avoiding stack overflow in Sieve of Erathosthene?

    - by nixx
    Here's my implementation of Sieve of Erathosthene in Clojure (based on SICP lesson on streams): (defn nats-from [n] (iterate inc n)) (defn divide? [p q] (zero? (rem q p))) (defn sieve [stream] (lazy-seq (cons (first stream) (sieve (remove #(divide? (first stream) %) (rest stream)))))) (def primes (sieve (nats-from 2))) Now, it's all OK when i take first 100 primes: (take 100 primes) But, if i try to take first 1000 primes, program breaks because of stack overflow. I'm wondering if is it possible to change somehow function sieve to become tail-recursive and, still, to preserve "streamnes" of algorithm? Any help???

  • jquery get the index of a row?

    - by KnockKnockWhosThere
    I'm trying to write a function that will do something if the the row index is 0, and then something else if the row index is greater than 0. The zero part is working, but I can't figure out the syntax for rows that have an index greater than 0. For the tr[0] row, I'm doing this: if($("#mytable > tbody > tr ").index(0)) { ... I tried: if($("#mytable > tbody > tr ").index() > 0 ) { But, that didn't work?

  • Initial conditions with a non-linear ODE in Mathematica

    - by buggy
    Hi, I'm trying to use Mathematica's NDSolve[] to compute a geodesic along a sphere using the coupled ODE: x" - (x" . x) x = 0 The problem is that I can only enter initial conditions for x(0) and x'(0) and the solver is happy with the solution where x" = 0. The problem is that my geodesic on the sphere has the initial condition that x"(0) = -x(0), which I have no idea how to tell mathematica. If I add this as a condition, it says I'm adding True to the list of conditions. Here is my code: s1 = NDSolve[{x1''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x1[t] == 0, x2''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x2[t] == 0, x3''[t] - (x1[t] * x1''[t] + x2[t] * x2''[t] + x3[t]*x3''[t]) * x3[t] == 0, x1[0] == 1, x2[0] == 0, x3[0] == 0, x1'[0] == 0, x2'[0] == 0, x3'[0] == 1} , { x1, x2, x3}, {t, -1, 1}][[1]] I would like to modify this so that the initial acceleration is not zero but -x(0). Thanks

  • pushScene and popScene or replaceScene . which should we use and when ?

    - by srikanth rongali
    I am using push scene to get the next scene. But, I read that for each PushScene the scene is stored in stack. The memory usage is more. So, I am using the replaceScene in place of pushScene. But, with replace scene I am getting the memory-bad-access message in debugger. So, I want to popScene after using it, so that the retain count is zero. But, I am confused in using popScene. If I have a Scene1 and Scene2. I used the following to go in to Scene2. Now I need to remove Scene1 from stack. [[CCDirector sharedDirector] pushScene:Scene2]; Where should I write the popScene to popScene1. How to get the previous scene in current running scene ? Thank you/

  • Subquery works in 9i but not in 11g

    - by Zsuetam
    Statement below is working on Oracle 9i but not on Oracle 11g SELECT * FROM ( SELECT 0 scrnfail_rate, '9' zz, 7 hh FROM DUAL UNION ALL SELECT 0 scrnfail_rate, '9' zz, 7 hh FROM DUAL ) WHERE zz IS NOT NULL AND TO_CHAR (hh) NOT IN ( SELECT DECODE ( scrnfail_rate, 0, -1, ROUND (LEVEL * 1 / (scrnfail_rate / 100)) - ROUND (1 / (2 * (scrnfail_rate / 100))) ) AS nno FROM DUAL WHERE NVL (scrnfail_rate, 0) > 0 CONNECT BY LEVEL <= ROUND(9 * scrnfail_rate / 100) ) It looks like Oracle 11g is ignoring where decode or even where clause in the subquery. This query should return two rows as it does on Oracle 9i, but results ORA-01476: divisor is equal to zero on Oracle 11g EE 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  • algorithm advice for finding maximum items within a time period

    - by darren
    Hi everyone. I have a database schema that is similar to the following: | User | Event | Date |--------|---------------|------ | 111 | Walked dog | 2009-10-1 | 222 | Walked dog | 2009-10-2 | 333 | Fed Fish | 2009-10-5 | 222 | Did Laundry | 2009-10-6 | 111 | Fed Fish | 2009-10-7 | 111 | Walked dog | 2009-10-18 | 222 | Walked dog | 2009-10-19 | 111 | Fed Fish | 2009-10-21 I would like to produce a query that returns the maximum number of times a user performs some action within a time period. For example, given a time period of 5 days, what is the maximum number of times user 111 walked the dog? The most obvious solution would be to start at some zero point and move forward each day, summing up 5 day periods along the way, then taking the maximum total out of all the 5 day windows. the approach seems incredibly costly however. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.

  • Articles about replication schemes/algorithms?

    - by jkff
    I'm designing an hierarchical distributed system (every node has zero or more "master" nodes to which it propagates its current data). The data gets continuously updated and I'd like to guarantee that at least N nodes have almost-current data at any given time. I do not need complete consistency, only eventual consistency (t.i. for any time instant, the current snapshot of data should eventually appear on at least N nodes. It is tricky to define the term "current" here, but still). Nodes may fail and go back up at any moment, and there is no single "central" node. O overflowers! Point me to some good papers describing replication schemes. I've so far found one: Consistency Management in Optimistic Replication Algorithms

  • Selecting a specific div from a extern webpage using CURL

    - by Paulo
    Hi can anyone help me how to select a specific div from the content of a webpage. Say i want to get the div with id="body" from webpage http://www.test.com/page3.php My current code looks something like this: (not working) //REG EXP. $s_searchFor = '@^/.dont know what to put here..@ui'; //CURL $ch = curl_init(); $timeout = 5; // set to zero for no timeout curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_URL, 'http://www.test.com/page3.php'); curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, $timeout); if(!preg_match($s_searchFor, $ch)) { $file_contents = curl_exec($ch); } curl_close($ch); // display file echo $file_contents; So i'd like to know how i can use reg expressions to find a specific div and how to unset the rest of the webpage so that $file_content only contains the div.

  • Difference between BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE and BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION?

    - by Rhys Ulerich
    Can anyone describe the difference in behavior between BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE and BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION? The documentation implies the that both macros treat their third parameter identically, which makes me suspect the documentation is wrong. In particular, BOOST_CHECK_CLOSE_FRACTION gives me some odd looking results: error in "...": difference between *expected{0} and *actual{-1.7763568394002506e-16} exceeds 9.9999999999999995e-07 Is there a gotcha because I expect a zero result? I've not been successful at reading through the underlying macro declarations. Please note BOOST_CHECK_SMALL isn't appropriate for my use case (comparing two vectors after a linear algebra operation).

  • Weird behavior of an ASP.NET MVC application - track of errors

    - by Alex
    Before migrating from ASP.NET WebForms I had a very good way to monitor all my application errors in the Events Log (Administrative Tools). But now after moving to asp.net MVC, all I get is the same mistake occurring every minute (something about Site Master). I know it's not right, because there are other mistakes, but they are not displayed. I purposefully put in division by zero operation, and it didn't track it. I had to implement the OnException method of a controller, and send e-mails with error details which is very inconvenient. How can I solve this problem?

    such text: $text = ' href="http://yahoo.com" target="_blank"> link text </a> text... text... <br> text...'; // $text = ' text... <a href="http://yahoo.com" target="_blank"> link text </a> text... text... <br> text...'; and such regular expression: preg_match_all('/^(.*)(<.+>)(.*)(<\/.+>)(.*)$/',$text,$matches); what I want, - to check if text matches the regular expression. If yes, then $matches should contain parts of string above, if not (as I guess) it should contain four zero-length arrays. something is wrong, but I can't find, what actually is?

  • C# SendMessage to C++ WinProc

    - by jws
    I need to send a string from C# to a C++ WindowProc. There are a number of related questions on SO related to this, but none of the answers have worked for me. Here's the situation: PInvoke: [DllImport("user32", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public extern static int SendMessage(IntPtr hWnd, uint wMsg, IntPtr wParam, string lParam); C#: string lparam = "abc"; NativeMethods.User32.SendMessage(handle, ConnectMsg, IntPtr.Zero, lparam); C++: API LRESULT CALLBACK HookProc (int code, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { if (code >= 0) { CWPSTRUCT* cwp = (CWPSTRUCT*)lParam; ... (LPWSTR)cwp->lParam <-- BadPtr ... } return ::CallNextHookEx(0, code, wParam, lParam); } I've tried a number of different things, Marshalling the string as LPStr, LPWStr, also tried creating an IntPtr from unmanaged memory, and writing to it with Marshal.WriteByte. The pointer is the correct memory location on the C++ side, but the data isn't there. What am I missing?

  • Python try/except: Showing the cause of the error after displaying my variables

    - by NealWalters
    I'm not even sure what the right words are to search for. I want to display parts of the error object in an except block (similar to the err object in VBScript, which has Err.Number and Err.Description). For example, I want to show the values of my variables, then show the exact error. Clearly, I am causing a divided-by-zero error below, but how can I print that fact? try: x = 0 y = 1 z = y / x z = z + 1 print "z=%d" % (z) except: print "Values at Exception: x=%d y=%d " % (x,y) print "The error was on line ..." print "The reason for the error was ..."

  • Bind texture with pinned mapped memory in CUDA

    - by sjchoi
    I was trying to bind a host memory that was mapped for zero-copy to a texture, but it looks like it isn't possible. Here is a code sample: float* a; float* d_a; cudaSetDeviceFlags(cudaDeviceMapHost); cudaHostAlloc( (void **)&a, bytes, cudaHostAllocMapped); cudaHostGetDevicePointer((void **)&d_a, (void *)a, 0); texture<float, 2, cudaReadModeElementType> tex; cudaBindTexture2D( 0, &tex, d_a, &channelDesc, width, height, pitch); Is it recommended that you used pinned memory and just copy it over to device memory that is bind to texture?

  • Does margin-left:2px; render faster than margin:0 0 0 2px;?

    - by Christopher Altman
    Douglas Crockford describes the consequence of Javascript inquiring a node's style. How simply asking for the margin of a div causes the browser to 'reflow' the div in the browser's rendering engine four times. So that made me wonder, during the initial rendering of a page (or in Crockford's jargon a "web scroll") is it faster to write CSS that defines only the non-zero/non-default values? To provide an example: div{ margin-left:2px; } Than div{ margin:0 0 0 2px; } I know consequence of this 'savings' is insignificant, but I think it is still important to understand how the technologies are implemented. Also, this is not a question about formatting CSS--this is a question about the implementations of browsers rendering CSS. Reference: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/theater/video.php?v=crockonjs-4

  • need to query MongoDB using php

    - by Mario Villarroel
    I need to query mongodb with something like this: ("something" < X OR "something" = "nll") AND ("someother"X OR "someother"= "nll") AND z=$z AND s=1 I've tried a few things, but can't get it to work, this is what I've tried: find( array( '$or'=array(array("something"=array("$le",$X)),array("something"="nll")), '$or'=array(array("someother"=array("$ge",$X)),array("someother"="nll")) )) But that's getting me the OR overwritten, so I'm lost on that... After diggin a bit more, I assembled this code that seems to be what I need, but doesn't work either: find( array('$and'=array( array( '$or' = array( array("something"=array('$gte'=$X)),array("something"="nll"))), array('$or' = array( array("someother"=array('$lte'=$X)),array("someother"="nll")))),"Z"=$z, "s"="1"); But this doesn't work as it returns zero results and I know for sure that there are more than 2 items that match on the db. (100% certain)

  • MongoDB query to return only embedded document

    - by Matt
    assume that i have a BlogPost model with zero-to-many embedded Comment documents. can i query for and have MongoDB return only Comment objects matching my query spec? eg, db.blog_posts.find({"comment.submitter": "some_name"}) returns only a list of comments. edit: an example: import pymongo connection = pymongo.Connection() db = connection['dvds'] db['dvds'].insert({'title': "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy", 'episodes': [{'title': "Episode 1", 'desc': "..."}, {'title': "Episode 2", 'desc': "..."}, {'title': "Episode 3", 'desc': "..."}, {'title': "Episode 4", 'desc': "..."}, {'title': "Episode 5", 'desc': "..."}, {'title': "Episode 6", 'desc': "..."}]}) episode = db['dvds'].find_one({'episodes.title': "Episode 1"}, fields=['episodes']) in this example, episode is: {u'_id': ObjectId('...'), u'episodes': [{u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 1'}, {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 2'}, {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 3'}, {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 4'}, {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 5'}, {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 6'}]} but i just want: {u'desc': u'...', u'title': u'Episode 1'}

  • Get the ID of a Child in a cascade="all" relationship, while adding it to a collection, in Hibernate

    - by Marco
    Hi, i have two Entities, "Parent" and "Child", that are linked through a bidirectional one-to-many relationship with the cascade attribute set to "all". When adding a Child object to the Parent children collection using the code below, i can't get the ID of the persisted child until i commit the transaction: Parent p = (Parent) session.load(Parent.class, pid); Child c = new Child(); p.addChild(c); // "c" hasn't an ID (is always zero) However, when i persist a child entity by explicitly calling the session.save() method, the ID is created and set immediately, even if the transaction hasn't been committed: Child c = new Child(); session.save(c); // "c" has an ID Is there a way to get the ID of the child entity immediately without calling the session.save() method? Thanks

I have this sql query: select * from A where not exists (select * from B natural join C where B.id = A.id and C.value > 10); Which says: "Give me every item from table A where all sub-items have value less than 10. Is there a way to optimize this? And is there a way to write this not using exists operator?

  • Simple XNA 2D demo: why is my F# version slower than C# version?

    - by Den
    When running this XNA application it should display a rotated rectangle that moves from top-left corner to bottom-right corner. It looks like my F# version is noticeably much slower. It seems that the Draw method skips a lot of frames. I am using VS 2012 RC, XNA 4.0, .NET 4.5, F# 3.0. I am trying to make it as functional as possible. What could be the reason for poor performance? • PHP and MS Access: Number of Records returned by SELECT query

    - by VarunGupta

";"; $odbc_con -> open($constr); $rs_select = $odbc_con -> execute ("SELECT * FROM Main"); Using ($rs_select - RecordCount) gives -1 though the query is returning non-zero records. (a) What can be the reason? (b) Is there any way out? I have also tried using count($rs_select -> GetRows()). This satisfies the need but looks inefficient as it will involve copying of all the records into an array first.
