  • Memory Allocation Profiling in C++

    - by Amit Kumar
    I am writing an application and am surprised to see its total memory usage is already too high. I want to profile the dynamic memory usage of my application: How many objects of each kind are there in the heap, and which functions created these objects? Also, how much memory is used by each of the object? Is there a simple way to do this? I am working on both linux and windows, so tools of any of the platforms would suffice. NOTE: I am not concerned with memory leaks here.

  • How to create a UDF that takes a query string and returns the query's resultset

    - by Martin
    I want to create a stored procedure that takes a simple SELECT statement and return the resultset as a CSV string. So the basic idea is get the sql statement from user input, run it using EXEC(@stmt) and convert the resultset to text using cursors. However, as SQLServer doesn't allow: select * from storedprocedure(@sqlStmt) UDF with EXEC(@sqlStmt) so I tried Insert into #tempTable EXEC(@sqlStmt), but this doesn't work (error = "invalid object name #tempTable"). I'm stuck. Could you please shed some light on this matter? Many thanks EDIT: Actually the output (e.g CSV string) is not important. The problem is I don't know how to assign a cursor to the resultset returned by EXEC. SP and UDF do not work with Exec() while creating a temp table before inserting values is impossible without knowing the input statement. I thought of OPENQUERY but it does not accept variables as its parameters.

  • DataContractJsonSerializer produces list of hashes instead of hash

    - by Jacques
    I would expect a Dictionary object of the form: Dictionary<string,string> dict = new Dictionary<string,string>() {["blah", "bob"], ["blahagain", "bob"]}; to serialize into JSON in the form of: { "blah": "bob", "blahagain": "bob" } NOT [ { "key": "blah", "value": "bob" }, { "key": "blahagain", "value": "bob"}] What is the reason for what appears to be a monstrosity of a generic attempt at serializing collections? The DataContractJsonSerializer uses the ISerializable interface to produce this thing. It seems to me as though somebody has taken the XML output from ISerializable and mangled this thing out of it. Is there a way to override the default serialization used by .Net here? Could I just derive from Dictionary and override the Serialization methods? Posting to hear of any caveats or suggestions people might have.

  • Differentiating Between UITouch Objects On The iPhone

    - by Jasarien
    Hey guys, I'm trying to differentiate between two (or more) UITouch objects on the iPhone. Specifically, I'd like to know the order in which the touches occurred. For instance, in my -touchesBegan:withEvent: method I get an NSSet of UITouch objects. Now I can find out how many touches there are, but, which object represents which finger? I notice the timestamp property on UITouch - is this what I'm looking for? I see how that would be useful to obtaining the last or first touch - providing the touches don't mutate... Therein lies my problem. I can use the timestamp to single out the latest touch, but then the touch that occurred first moves, and IT becomes the latest touch... At the end of this exercise, I'd like to be able to implement the "pinch" gesture to zoom in or out, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Cocoa Memory Usage

    - by user288024
    I'm trying to track down some peculiar memory behavior in my Cocoa desktop app. My app does a lot of image processing using NSImage and uploads those images to a website over HTTP using NSURLConnection. After uploading several hundred images (some very large), when I run Instrument I get no leaks. I've also run through MallocDebug and get no leaks. When I dig into object allocations using Instrument I get output like this: GeneralBlock-9437184, Net Bytes 9437184, # Net 1 GeneralBlock-192512, Net Bytes 2695168, # Net 14 and etc., for smaller sizes. When I look at these in detail, they're marked as being owned by 'Foundation' and created via NSConcreteMutableData initWithCapacity. During HTTP upload I'm creating a post body using NSMutableData, so I'm guessing these are buffers Cocoa is caching for me when I create the NSMutableData objects. Is there a way to force Cocoa to free these? I'm 90% positive I'm releasing correctly (and Instruments and MallocDebug seem to confirm this), but I think Cocoa is keeping these around for perf reasons since I'm allocating so many MSMutableData buffers.

  • Flex HDividedBox Divider backgroundColor

    - by Jeremy Mitchell
    Is there an easy way to set the backgroundColor of a HDividedBox's (or VDividedBox's) BoxDivider object(s)? A BoxDivider is the "divider" that has the drag handle on it. By default, the BoxDivider is transparent with the little handle image on it. There is a dividerSkin style that defaults to mx.skin.BoxDividerSkin which is a reference to a symbol in the Assets.swf file. Any ideas? Do I have to make an alternate skin? Is that my only option? Googling this led me to many solutions that were weird and hacky and frankly didn't seem to work. Thanks.

  • CacheManager.getCacheFileBaseDir() always returns null

    - by Leon
    Hi, I've been trying to use the CacheManager for caching some http requests but it failed every time with a nullpointer exception. After some digging I believe I found out why: CacheManager.getCacheFileBaseDir() always returns null so when I try to use CacheManager.getCacheFile() or CacheManager.saveCacheFile() they fail. CacheManager.cacheDisabled() returns false :S I hadn 't created a cache partition via the AVD manager so I thought the problem lie there. But after creating a cache partition getCacheFile() still return null: 03-16 00:25:16.321: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(296): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-16 00:25:16.321: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(296): at android.webkit.CacheManager.getCacheFile(CacheManager.java:296) What could be the problem? I've got the code posted here: http://pastebin.com/eaJwfXEK But it's a bit messy because I've been trying tons of stuff. Why does CacheManager.getCacheFileBaseDir() return null and not a File object? Thanks in advance! Leon

  • String Formatting Tricks/Docs

    - by Meltemi
    Was reading the response by Shaggy Frog to this post and was intrigued by the following line of code: NSLog(@"%@", [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@:%*s%5.2f", key, padding, " ", [object floatValue]]); I know string formatting is an age old art but I'm kinda doing the end around into Cocoa/Obj-C programming and skipped a few grades along the way. Where is a good (best) place to learn all the string formatting tricks allowed in NSString's stringWithFormat? I'm familiar with Apple's String Format Specifiers page but from what I can tell it doesn't shed light on whatever is happening with %*s or the %5.2f (not to mention the 3 apparent placeholders followed by 4 arguments) above?!?

  • WinForms Taskbar Icon - Click Event not firing

    - by Greycrow
    I have created a non-form c# program that uses the NotifyIcon class. The text "(Click to Activate)" shows up when I hover the mouse. So I am getting some events handled. However, The "Click" event does not fire and the Context menu doesnt show up. public class CTNotify { static NotifyIcon CTicon = new NotifyIcon(); static ContextMenu contextMenu = new ContextMenu(); static void Main() { //Add a notify Icon CTicon.Icon = new Icon("CTicon.ico"); CTicon.Text = "(Click to Activate)"; CTicon.Visible = true; CTicon.Click += new System.EventHandler(CTicon_Click); //Create a context menu for the notify icon contextMenu.MenuItems.Add("E&xit"); //Attach context menu to icon CTicon.ContextMenu = contextMenu; while (true) //Infinite Loop { Thread.Sleep(300); //wait } } private static void CTicon_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show("Clicked!"); } }

  • Firebird Insert Distinct Data Using ZeosLib and Delphi

    - by Brad
    I'm using Zeos 7, and Delphi 2K9 and want to check to see if a value is already in the database under a specific field before I post the data to the database. Example: Field Keyword Values of Cheese, Mouse, Trap tblkeywordKEYWORD.Value = Cheese What is wrong with the following? And is there a better way? zQueryKeyword.SQL.Add('IF NOT EXISTS(Select KEYWORD from KEYWORDLIST ='''+ tblkeywordKEYWORD.Value+''')INSERT into KEYWORDLIST(KEYWORD) VALUES ('''+ tblkeywordKEYWORD.Value+'''))'); zQueryKeyword.ExecSql; I tried using the unique constraint in IB Expert, but it gives the following error: Invalid insert or update value(s): object columns are constrained - no 2 table rows can have duplicate column values. attempt to store duplicate value (visible to active transactions) in unique index "UNQ1_KEYWORDLIST". Thanks for any help -Brad

  • moviePlayBackDidFinish: is not called in application.

    - by srikanth rongali
    In my application I have used these notifications when playing a video. But, The problem is the control of the program is not entering in to the first two methods(moviePreLoadDidFinish and moviePlayBackDidFinish). It is entering into last method. So, after the video is played and I pressed Done button in the video, I cannot touch any object in screen. I mean I used play button for video to play in a view. After the video played the play button is deactivated. - (void) moviePreloadDidFinish:(NSNotification*)notification { } // Notification called when the movie finished playing. - (void) moviePlayBackDidFinish:(NSNotification*)notification { } // Notification called when the movie scaling mode has changed. - (void) movieScalingModeDidChange:(NSNotification*)notification { } I could not get where I was wrong ? Thank You.

  • Disposables, Using & Try/Catch Blocks

    - by Aren B
    Having a mental block today, need a hand verifying my logic isn't fubar'ed. Traditionally I would do file i/o similar to this: FileStream fs = null; // So it's visible in the finally block try { fs = File.Open("Foo.txt", FileMode.Open); /// Do Stuff } catch(IOException) { /// Handle Stuff } finally { if (fs != null) fs.Close(); } However, this isn't very elegant. Ideally I'd like to use the using block to dispose of the filestream when I'm done, however I am unsure about the synergy between using and try/catch. This is how i'd like to implement the above: try { using(FileStream fs = File.Open("Foo.txt", FileMode.Open)) { /// Do Stuff } } catch(Exception) { /// Handle Stuff } However, I'm worried that a premature exit (via thrown exception) from within the using block may not allow the using block to complete execution and clean up it's object. Am I just paranoid, or will this actually work the way I intend it to?

  • How do you give variables reference in javascript?

    - by Eric
    I want to give variables reference in javascript. For example, I want to do: a=1 b=a a=2 and have b=2, and change accordingly to a. Is this possible in javascript? If it isn't is there a way to do like a.onchange = function () {b=a}? What I wanted to do was make a function like makeobject which make an object and puts it in an array and than returns it like function makeobject() { objects[objects.length] = {blah:'whatever',foo:8}; } so than I could do a=makeobject() b=makeobject() c=makeobject() and later in the code do for (i in objects) { objects[i].blah = 'whatev'; } and also change the values of a,b and c

  • What is the C# equivalent of this Excel VBA code for Shapes?

    - by code4life
    This is the VBA code for an Excel template, which I'm trying to convert to C# in a VSTO project I'm working on. By the way, it's a VSTO add-in: Dim addedShapes() As Variant ReDim addedShapes(1) addedShapes(1) = aBracket.Name ReDim Preserve addedShapes(UBound(addedShapes) + 1) addedShapes(UBound(addedShapes)) = "unique2" Set tmpShape = Me.Shapes.Range(addedShapes).Group At this point, I'm stumped by the addedShapes(), not sure what this is all about. Update: Matti mentioned that addedShapes() represents a variant array in VBA. So now I'm wondering what the contents of addedShapes() should be. Would this be the correct way to call the Shapes.Range() call in C#? List<string> addedShapes = new List<string>(); ... Shape tmpShape = worksheet.Shapes.get_Range (addedShapes.Cast<object>().ToArray()).Group(); I'd appreciate anyone who's worked with VBA and C# willing to make a comment on my question & problem!

  • Iphone: UIWebview and double taps

    - by Eyal
    I would like to trap a double tap event in a UIWebView. I have derived a class from UIWebController. When I double tap it seams that the UIWebController itself is responding to my double taps instead of my class. The weird thing is that when I change the inheritance to inherit from UIView everything works just fine. Below are snippets from my code which is supposed to invoke a pop-up when double tapped. In the init function: //Setup action for double tap UITapGestureRecognizer *tap = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(handleDoubleTap:)]; tap.numberOfTapsRequired = 2; [super addGestureRecognizer:tap]; [tap release]; And Also: - (void)handleDoubleTap:(UIGestureRecognizer *)gestureRecognizer { UIAlertView *someError = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle: @"Network error" message: @"Hello" delegate: self cancelButtonTitle: @"Ok" otherButtonTitles: nil]; [someError show]; [someError release]; //[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:NOTIFICATION_FLIP_TO_PAGE_VIEW object:nil]; }

  • The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities

    - by user300992
    I have 2 Entities "UserProfile" and "Agent", they are 1-many relationship. I want to do a query to get a list of Agents by giving the userProfileEntityKey. When I run it, I got this "The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities" error. public IQueryable<Agent> GetAgentListByUserProfile(EntityKey userProfileEntityKey) { ObjectQuery<Agent> agentObjects = this.DataContext.AgentSet; IQueryable<Agent> resultQuery = (from p in agentObjects where p.UserProfile.EntityKey == userProfileEntityKey select p); return resultQuery; } So, what is the correct way to do this? Do I use p.UserProfile.UserId = UserId ? If that's the case, it's not conceptual anymore. Or should I write object query instead of LINQ query?

  • Can I check the validity of a single DataMapper property?

    - by Nathan Long
    In a custom DataMapper setter, I'd like to check whether the value I'm setting is valid or not. Or do I only have the option of caching the DataTable object?

  • Call stored procedure using Spring SimpleJdbcCall with callback

    - by MFIhsan
    I have an Oracle Stored procedure that takes CLOB input and REFCURSOR output. I invoke the SP via Spring SimpleJdbcCall passing in a RowMapper to map the results. However, since the result set is large, I need to provide callback feature to the client. I can't quite figure out how to add callback for an SP call using Spring - both with and without SimpleJdbcCall. One thought I have is to pass-in a RowCallbackHandler. Will this work or is there a better way to solve this problem? Any help here is appreciated. private Map<String, Object> arguments = ...; SimpleJdbcCall jdbcCall = new SimpleJdbcCall(this.jdbcTemplate) .withCatalogName(this.packageName) .withProcedureName(this.storedProcName) .withoutProcedureColumnMetaDataAccess() .declareParameters(this.outputParameters.toArray(new SqlOutParameter[]{})); if(!isEmpty(inputParameters)) { jdbcCall.declareParameters(inputParameters.toArray(new SqlParameter[]{})); } this.outputParameters.add(new SqlOutParameter(outputParamName, VARCHAR, rowMapper)); jdbcCall.execute(arguments);

  • assign logon scripts to local users

    Hello, I wrote a c# code that creates new local user DirectoryEntry localMachine = new DirectoryEntry("WinNT://" + Environment.MachineName + ",computer"); DirectoryEntry group = localMachine.Children.Find("administrators", "group"); DirectoryEntry user = localMachine.Children.Find(accountName, "user"); Console.WriteLine(user.Properties.ToString()); I tried to set the logon script for that user by doing: localMachine.Properties["scriptPath"].Insert(0, "logonScript.vbs"); localMachine.CommitChanges(); same with group or user instances.but the property doesn't exist in any of theses instances (localMachine, group or user). I know that because I did: System.Collections.ICollection col = localMachine.Properties.PropertyNames; foreach (Object ob in col) { Console.WriteLine(ob.ToString()); } Any idea of how to do that in other way?Cheers,

  • tinyMCE setup callback versus onAddEditor

    - by Matthew Manela
    When you initialize a tinyMCE editor I have noticed two different ways to get called when the editor is created. One way is using the setup callback that is part of tinyMCE.init: tinyMCE.init({ ... setup : function(ed) { // do things with editor ed } }); The other way is to hook up to the onAddEditor event: tinyMCE.onAddEditor.add(function(mgr,ed) { // do things with editor ed }); What are the differences between using these two methods? Is the editor in a different state in one versus the other? For example, are things not yet loaded if I try to access properties on the editor object. What are reasons to use one over the other?

  • C# inheritance XmlSerializer
