• Redmine on Apache2 with Passenger issue

  I installed Redmine and run it in Apache2 with the Passenger module. Apache2 boots, Passenger module gets loaded and the Redmine welcome page is shown, however when trying to login or navigate to other parts of the Redmine site, the browser keeps loading and loading and loading forever, although the Redmine production.log indicates redirects and HTTP 200 codes in the header, so everything seems to work correctly according to the log. I tested in various browsers. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? I will add apache configuration and some relevant log snippets from both apache and redmine hereafter. • No login prompt displayed after updating Ubuntu 10.04, broken gdm

  So here's what happens: I updated my system the other day, was prompted for a reboot for the update to complete but was in the middle of working so I delayed it until after I was done. I reboot and it's broken :(. It appears to boot normally, with the following exceptions: The purple Ubuntu load screen no longer displays (though it did for the first couple of times I tried to get in). I hear the login prompt sound, but no login prompt appears. Nor is it simply "invisible" - pressing enter, typing my password, and pressing enter again do nothing. Normally my Bluetooth mouse is functional at this point, but it is not. GRUB displays recovery options for my current kernel, and for an older one (2.6.32-24). Trying to boot into .32-24 gives me an error saying "udevadm can't do something while udev is not configured". So I try solutions listed here: http://superuser.com/questions/195786/ubuntu-update-went-wrong-pc-doesnt-boot-how-can-i-repair-it Nothing I tried seemed to work, and after further Googling my hunch is that it's a problem with gdm. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know all that much about how Linux/Ubuntu systems work just yet. Things I'm able to do: Boot to a live CD Ctrl-Alt-F2 after that login sound plays brings me to a console login, which I can successfully do (it's how I tried the solutions above). This works only under the current kernel. A hack I'd be willing to explore is removing the login prompt from the console, but I'd prefer to "simply" fix what's wrong. Like that guy, I need to repair the system rather than reinstall. System: Dell Inspiron 1525 Core 2 Duo Proprietary Driver for Broadcom 43xx wireless Dual-boot with Windows 7 (which is how I'm posting this, unfortunately I only have this machine and any experimenting requires constant reboots into Windows/brokenbuntu) Last package installed was Moonlight, but it appeared to install properly. Kernel: 2.6.32-25 Edit: After working with Karl's suggestions, it seems that the problem is with gdm. Error exit status 245 when attempting to sudo apt-get install --reinstall gdm, also an error processing gdm when running sudo apt-get -f install. How do I reinstall or repair gdm so that I can get back into my machine?

  I use ubuntu server 10.04 on a fairly good machine, with 2.40 duel-core processor and 2GB RAM. My users login with ssh or samba. I have setup LDAP with PAM to sync user accounts between unix and samba. When I allowed about 90 users to login over ssh at once the server refused login for many users. I am using dropbear as ssh server. Even samba logins failed for many users. I need to allow at least 100 users to login at once. Is there anyway to do this?

• windows vms unpredictibly require login

  I have a cluster of vms on a number of cloned servers using libvirt/qemu. Occassionally the windows 7 vms randomly require a login screen, even though I've done everything I can think of and can google to turn off a login screen. I've used netplwiz to turn off requiring a password (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/auto-logon-windows-7.htm) manually changed the regsistry using the instructions here: http://superuser.com/a/28654 changed requiring a password in the power saving settings in the control panel if the screen goes to sleep told the screen to never go to sleep (in the control panel) Even with all of these things, some of the vms *still* randomly require a login. I have no idea what else to try. Any ideas??

  From time to time, my system, when I try to login TRHOUGH or AFTER a remote connection, locks up the login session. I can't login anymore, the screen turns black (the monitor is still active, the image is black). Especially in the recent case, the system did not come back from the lock-up, and I had to reset the computer. Any idea what might be the issue here? More information: Both Computers are Windows 7, The RDP Server has a wired connection, the Client has either Wireless or Wired. The network card involved on the server is a "Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)" card built-in on an ASRock Mainboard. I'm using either local LAN or internet connection through NAT/Router.

• Cannot login to fresh Kubuntu installation as admin, but only as guest

  I just installed a fresh Kubuntu 12.10 on a machine beside Windows 7. After successful installation, I rebooted and wanted to login. But when I type my password and hit Enter, some command line screen shows up for the split of a second and then it thows me back to the login screen without any error message. It's hard to spot what the command line text says, but I couldn't see any error or something like that. Anyway, when I log in as guest (without password), everything works finely. Also, when going to a system command line (using Ctrl+Alt+F1), I can login with my account without any problems. Does anyone have a clue what is going on and how to fix it?

• Mavericks: Safari does not login in into web services

  Since when I upgraded ML to Mavericks Safari is no longer able to log me into Facebook. When I go to the login page it suggests me the correct credentials, I hit the Login button, the page refreshes but nothing happens, like if the credentials where empty. Firefox works perfectly, I even logged out and back in to make sure the credentials are the same that Safari suggests, and so they are. Needless to say for a different user on the same Mavericks Safari logs in correctly. The same happens with most web pages that need a login, web mails for instances, I have tow accounts on different webmail providers and none of them works. Of course using the same mail services with POP3 works fine. Even on this very site I cannot post a thing with Safari, I'm going to switch to Firefox to be able to post this question. Again, Firefox or a different user are OK. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

  Hi, We have recently been tasked with looking after the user login side of things in our enterprise (windows clients in active directory). We have a system at the moment that uses a vbscript login/loggof script to call a couple of DLL written in vb 6. The DLL's actions are controled by some config files based on users/groups witch is administrated from a central app. This is quite a good system, but kind of want to come away from vb6 for the dll's (maybe port them to c++ but them you have to make them com+ to call them from vbscripts etc) and possibly away from vbscript for the actual login scripts themselves.   I'm having a lot of issues with our Windows XP SP3 machines (about 5, but every week another gets on the bandwagon of this issue). They take forever (15 minutes) to apply the user settings once our employee's enter their username and password to login to our domain. It only happens say if a user has reboot the machine and then when they go to log back in then it hangs forever. Reboot and restart are the key words for sure I've noticed with this issue. Here are things I have tested: •Made sure the DNS was set to point to our two servers (Server01 & Server02 are DNS Domain Controllers, 01 is primary and 02 backup). •No major changes have been applied to our network. •All profiles are local, so I have deleted out local profiles that aren't being used on those machines that run slow. •Also I have tried to enable and disable the Enable Fast Login under the local machines GP. It was not configured originally and when I tested both, it made the computer hang on "applying computer settings" for about 15 minutes. When it finally came up to the login screen the it was very quick to login to the domain. However this doesn't fix my issue, and even more frustrating upon setting it back to being not configured it now still takes for forever to apply computer settings. •I enabled the userenv log and here is what I see, but my experience is limited and I'm not sure how to read it exactly.   What I was doing before this happened?: I was tinkering trying to setup X server so I can open an app's GUI remotely so I installed "X Window System", "xclock" and uncommented "# ForwardX11 yes" from my "/etc/ssh/ssh_config".   From time to time there are failed login attempts in our mysql production server (mysql dashboard alert us). Is there a way to log every single success and failed login to mysql server without enabling the 'general_log'?. We thing general_log is not an option due it's a production server with high load.

  Two question regarding sudo-login into an ubuntu-system (debian tips welcome as well): Is it possible to require sudoers on my box to only login with publickey-authentication? Is it possible to log which ip sudoers log in from and check that for "unusual activity" or take actions? I'm thinking about temporarily removing sudo-rights if sudoers don't log in from whitelisted IPs. Or is that too risky to be exploited?

• Force gdm login screen to the primary monitor

  I have two monitors attached to my video card. Primary monitor has a resolution equal to 1280x1024 and second has 1920x1200. My gdm login screen always appears on the second monitor even if it is switched off. My question is how to force gdm to show login screen always on primary monitor with resolution 1280x1024? I use Ubuntu 10.04.

• windows 2008 server login screen remote desktop

  how can I access a GRAPHICAL login screen (like on earlier Windows versions, or like VNC) instead of the Username/Password prompt via RDP? I'm asking because we have several servers where we have no passwords but the shutdown/reboot option is given via group policy on the login screen. Thus, instead of having to go the hardware console I'd like to be able to perform reboot/shutdown actions via terminal services. Regards, Marki

Do I have may be something wrong in the settings variabls? How can I fix this problem?

• Cisco Secure ACS 4.2 + TACACS+ - installed together or?

  I'm tasked with installing Cisco Secure ACS (4.2 as its windows based). Do you install TACACS.net or something similar with ACS or does ACS facilitate the TACACS+ authentication? I can get my device to authenticate against a tacacs.net installation without much trouble but can't seem to figure out how one plugs ACS in, per se. I've installed ACS on the same server (is this my problem?) but no matter what I do I can only get my TACACS+ users to authenticate. Any helps/tips would be greatly appreciated!
