As I understand it GPL says you only have to distribute derivative code for works you distribute, i.e. if you develop internal software you can keep your code private.
What happens if you develop a server application, say like Facebook or StackOverflow? The server app is not 'distributed' so what's the situation with your code in this case?
I develop websites using PHP and MySQL. What resources would a seasoned web developer recommend that would cover server-specific information relevant to the job of a developer.
If it helps, I work specifically with an Apache server (through my hosting company).
Hello,
I have to insert float values into different SQL Servers. Each one can have different locales so in one it the representation could be "42,2" and at another one "42.2" or whatever. How should i construct the query so it works in any SQL Server?
Do i need to detect the locale of the server before constructing the query or what?
Thanks in advance mates.
Hi,
I have a Windows Server that recives mail. These mail contains only 1 single CSV file. I want my server to automatically take the attachment from any incoming mail and send to a java program locally installed. Is there anyone who can give me directions on any programs that fix this or do I need to create some kind of windows service?
Thankful for any help!
I was wondering if there was a way to extract all the values of a column, and then save each value into separate text files (labeled ANYTHING, 1-100 works fine).
I know how to do this through another language, but I'm using SQL Server 2008 with Microsoft SQL Server Manager and it would save me some time from figuring out how to do it through C#.
Hi all, We need to find a way to programatically *link all the tables* in a SQL Server database to an access db. We will be invoking this access database from a program that uses .net/SQL Server 2008.
While invoking the application we would like to add the linked tables so that the users can just run the reports/modules from access without having to worry about linking the tables. Is there a way we can do this?
Thanks!
I need to store about 600,000 images on a web server that using NTFS. Am I better off storing images in 20,000-image chunks in subfolders? (Windows Server 2008)

I'm refactoring some client-server code and it uses the terms Response, Result & Reply for the same thing (an answer from the server). And although its not really that important it's become hard to guess which word to use while writing new code, so I'd like to unify the three terms into one and do the appropriate refactoring, but I'm not sure which word is the "best", if there is such a thing.
Any suggestions based on precedence and standards towards naming for this case?
I have just moved my CodeIgniter project to a new server and now I'm getting a 500 error and no output from the project. It works fine on my old server and in my test environment. I'm completely stumped how to troubleshoot this, especially as there's nothing of use in the log files. Any help would be great!
I am attempting to make a program that will pull data such as OS, IP, Server Name, Websites, Databases, etc. in a server farm. Is there a .Net library that allows you to connect to servers and get information such as this with the proper authentication? I do not really know where to start, thank you.
Most of the servers are 2003 standard/enterprise both x86 and x64.

Before going into production, our client demands actual numbers of how many users our web application can handle.
We have all kinds of features implemented including asset management (file uploads/downloads), documents import/export, various statistics, web-services etc.
Which tool (or set of tools) could do this?
Application details:
XHTML/jQuery
Coldfusion 8

Good Morning,
I have connected to my SQL 2005 server - and have managed to list all of the databases on that server. Now I would like to run a check on each database to see if I have permission to view that database..
How would I go about this?
Many Thanks,
Joel
Hi All,
How can we set permissions for users to only allow them to download SSIS packages from the production server and but deny them permissions to run any package in the Server.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141053(SQL.90).aspx
If i assign users to any of the DB roles db_dtsadmin, db_dtsltduser, and db_dtsoperator they will automatically have permission to run the package.
Appreciate your inputs.
Thanks!
What data type should be selected in case of Currency value column in SQL server. I have read some where on web Working on customer implementations, we found some interesting performance numbers concerning the money data type. For example, when Analysis Services was set to the currency data type (from double) to match the SQL Server money data type, there was a 13% improvement in processing speed (rows/sec). Is it true??
We have two SQL server database, and one is kept in US and being changed from day to day and the other one is in India. What is the best way of keeping two database schema in synch. Does any functionality like sql server replication help?
I had this script which worked in sql server 2005
-- t-sql scriptlet to drop all constraints on a table
DECLARE @database nvarchar(50)
DECLARE @table nvarchar(50)
set @database = 'dotnetnuke'
set @table = 'tabs'
DECLARE @sql nvarchar(255)
WHILE EXISTS(select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS where constraint_catalog = @database and table_name = @table)
BEGIN
select @sql = 'ALTER TABLE ' + @table + ' DROP CONSTRAINT ' + CONSTRAINT_NAME
from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS
where constraint_catalog = @database and
table_name = @table
exec sp_executesql @sql
END
It does not work in SQL Server 2008. How can I easily drop all foreign key constraints for a certain table? Does anyone have a better script?
Is there a way to specify, for example 4 distinct values for a varchar column in MS SQL Server 2008?
For example, I need a column called Frequency (varchar) that only accepts 'Daily', 'Weekly', 'Monthly', 'Yearly' as possible values
Is this possible to set within the SQL Server Management Studio when creating the table?
I'm developing a VB.Net web service application with a purpose of authenticating users credentials from Active Directory. I'm using VirtualBox and installed Windows 2003 standard server with AD role. I'm having problems connecting to the server. Any ideas?
My database has about 30 views, most of which have a reference to another database on this server (call it DB1).
Now, without going into the reasons why, I need to update all those views to DB2, also on the local server.
I would hate to have to do this manually on each view. Is there some SQL query I can run that will replace all occurrences of the string 'DB1' with 'DB2' in all my views?
I use MS SQL server as a DBMS for my very big corporate DB (with different financial data). And some times my system go down. I don't understand why. What programs/tools I can use for finding process/program/thread, that overload my SQL-server?
Thanks for all answers!
Hi,
I wanna do some local developer tests of IIS 7 but I don't have Windows Vista, 7 or 2008 server - I currently run XP SP3.
I have Virtual PC installed so I can use Microsoft's IE compatibility images - are there any time-limited images that I can use with Virtual PC so I can check out IIS 7?
The IIS 7 "Try it" link points to this page. But the VHS is for Windows Server platforms only I think and I don't want an ISO?
Any advice?
Hi
Can anybody explain me what I wrong I am doing in the following piece of code:
DataTable dt=SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServer(true);
Server sr = new Server("Test");
foreach(DataBase db in sr.DataBases)
{
Console.WriteLine(db["name"]);

It gives an exception in sr.Databases that can not be connected.
