  • double vision screen after installing ubuntu

    - by Heather Torgensen
I'm not much of a techie but my friend who is a software engineer suggested I download ubuntu after my Windows computer was not connecting to certain Wi-Fi networks ( including the one at my house). He said it may be because of the drivers. I did download ubuntu but now the home screen is totally off center.Any ideas? Step by step instructions would be awesome since I'm not super great at this! Thank you!!

  • Question about BoundingSpheres and Ray intersections

    - by NDraskovic
I'm working on a XNA project (not really a game) and I'm having some trouble with picking algorithm. I have a few types of 3D models that I draw to the screen, and one of them is a switch. So I'm trying to make a picking algorithm that would enable the user to click on the switch and that would trigger some other function. The problem is that the BoundingSphere.Intersect() method always returns null as result. This is the code I'm using: In the declaration section: ` //Basic matrices private Matrix world = Matrix.CreateTranslation(new Vector3(0, 0, 0)); private Matrix view = Matrix.CreateLookAt(new Vector3(10, 10, 10), new Vector3(0, 0, 0), Vector3.UnitY); private Matrix projection = Matrix.CreatePerspectiveFieldOfView(MathHelper.ToRadians(45), 800f / 600f, 0.01f, 100f); //Collision detection variables Viewport mainViewport; List<BoundingSphere> spheres = new List<BoundingSphere>(); Ray ControlRay; Vector3 nearPoint, farPoint, nearPlane, farPlane, direction; ` And then in the Update method: ` nearPlane = new Vector3((float)Mouse.GetState().X, (float)Mouse.GetState().Y, 0.0f); farPlane = new Vector3((float)Mouse.GetState().X, (float)Mouse.GetState().Y, 10.0f); nearPoint = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Unproject(nearPlane, projection, view, world); farPoint = GraphicsDevice.Viewport.Unproject(farPlane, projection, view, world); direction = farPoint - nearPoint; direction.Normalize(); ControlRay = new Ray(nearPoint, direction); if (spheres.Count != 0) { for (int i = 0; i < spheres.Count; i++) { if (spheres[i].Intersects(ControlRay) != null) { Window.Title = spheres[i].Center.ToString(); } else { Window.Title = "Empty"; } } ` The "spheres" list gets filled when the 3D object data gets loaded (I read it from a .txt file). For every object marked as switch (I use simple numbers to determine which object is to be drawn), a BoundingSphere is created (center is on the coordinates of the 3D object, and the diameter is always the same), and added to the list. The objects are drawn normally (and spheres.Count is not 0), I can see them on the screen, but the Window title always says "Empty" (of course this is just for testing purposes, I will add the real function when I get positive results) meaning that there is no intersection between the ControlRay and any of the bounding spheres. I think that my basic matrices (world, view and projection) are making some problems, but I cant figure out what. Please help.

  • Cursor running wild, then crashes on an Asus G73sw

    - by Yarchmon
The cursor sometimes goes wild, I get random clicks, the windows are resizing, the cursor disappears. In the worst case, clicks and keyboards are disabled. I've tried the solution given on doc.ubuntu-fr.org and add tu grub : i8042.nomux=1 i8042.reset=1 in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT But it didn't work What can I do ? Graphic card : Geforce GTX460M. Ubuntu : 11.10 (64 bits). Laptop Asus G73sw Interface : Unity (since 11.10) - didn't get this problem with Gnome before. Complement: when a window is resizing, it gets drag-boxes at every corner, center of sides and center of the window. It looks like my touchpad sends random info, or like a "ghost" touchscreen. lspci result : 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family DRAM Controller (rev 09) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200/2nd Generation Core Processor Family PCI Express Root Port (rev 09) 00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 (rev 04) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 05) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev b5) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 (rev b5) 00:1c.3 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 4 (rev b5) 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 (rev b5) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 05) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation HM65 Express Chipset Family LPC Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family 6 port SATA AHCI Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller (rev 05) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GF106 [GeForce GTX 460M] (rev a1) 01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation GF106 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1) 03:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. • 12.04: google-chrome takes ~3 min to startup, just shows grey box before that

    - by George
This is what I see when I first start google chrome: http://i.imgur.com/suQUv.png I've tried the beta version, the stable version, uninstalling and reinstall through ubuntu software center, logging in and logging out of my sync account, purging and reinstalling through apt-get etc. If I have no profile on then it seems to load with a normal speed, however, even after purging all my local account data and reisntalling and syncing it still takes forever.

  • The only metric with any value

What's the velocity? How big is a story point?  How many story points is that team producing per man hour?   People are sadly missing the whole point.  Take your measurements up a level or two.  When you get down to it, the only metric that makes any difference, is ROI.   The problem is that often times, the developers work in a dark hole, far removed from the realities of how exactly they get paid.  A bigger problem is that mid-level managers tend to be further removed from the realities of ROI.  A lot of times mid-level managers get tasked with tracking their teams "productivity" using things like, "lines of code", or "completeness of the productivity reports."   Monetize your projects and then track your velocity against business value (real dollars).    When your development teams can say, "Last year, our team cost the business 2 million dollars and we know that because of our efforts, the company saved 2 million dollars in waste and increased revenues by another 4 million dollars." At that point you have just moved your development team from a cost center, to a profit center.  You might have to give them a raise, but they have demonstrated that they have earned it.

  • Generating radial indicator images using C#

    - by DigiMortal
In one of my projects I needed to draw radial indicators for processes measured in percent. Simple images like the one shown on right. I solved the problem by creating images in C# and saving them on server hard disc so if image is once generated then it is returned from disc next time. I am not master of graphics or geometrics but here is the code I wrote. Drawing radial indicator To get things done quick’n’easy way – later may some of younger developers be the one who may need to changes things – I divided my indicator drawing process to four steps shown below. 1. Fill pie 2. Draw circles 3. Fill inner circle 4. Draw text Drawing image Here is the code to draw indicators. private static void SaveRadialIndicator(int percent, string filePath) {     using (Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(100, 100))     using (Graphics objGraphics = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap))     {         // Initialize graphics         objGraphics.Clear(Color.White);         objGraphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.AntiAlias;         objGraphics.TextRenderingHint = TextRenderingHint.ClearTypeGridFit;           // Fill pie         // Degrees are taken clockwise, 0 is parallel with x         // For sweep angle we must convert percent to degrees (90/25 = 18/5)         float startAngle = -90.0F;                        float sweepAngle = (18.0F / 5) * percent;           Rectangle rectangle = new Rectangle(5, 5, 90, 90);         objGraphics.FillPie(Brushes.Orange, rectangle, startAngle, sweepAngle);           // Draw circles         rectangle = new Rectangle(5, 5, 90, 90);         objGraphics.DrawEllipse(Pens.LightGray, rectangle);         rectangle = new Rectangle(20, 20, 60, 60);         objGraphics.DrawEllipse(Pens.LightGray, rectangle);           // Fill inner circle with white         rectangle = new Rectangle(21, 21, 58, 58);         objGraphics.FillEllipse(Brushes.White, rectangle);           // Draw text on image         // Use rectangle for text and align text to center of rectangle         var font = new Font("Arial", 13, FontStyle.Bold);         StringFormat stringFormat = new StringFormat();         stringFormat.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center;         stringFormat.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center;           rectangle = new Rectangle(20, 40, 62, 20);         objGraphics.DrawString(percent + "%", font, Brushes.DarkGray, rectangle, stringFormat);           // Save indicator to file         objGraphics.Flush();         if (File.Exists(filePath))             File.Delete(filePath);           bitmap.Save(filePath, ImageFormat.Png);     }        } Using indicators on web page To show indicators on your web page you can use the following code on page that outputs indicator images: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {     var percentString = Request.QueryString["percent"];     var percent = 0;     if(!int.TryParse(percentString, out percent))         return;     if(percent < 0 || percent > 100)         return;       var file = Server.MapPath("~/images/percent/" + percent + ".png");     if(!File.Exists(file))         SaveImage(percent, file);       Response.Clear();     Response.ContentType = "image/png";     Response.WriteFile(file);     Response.End(); } Om your pages where you need indicator you can set image source to Indicator.aspx (if you named your indicator handling file like this) and add percent as query string:     <img src="Indicator.aspx?percent=30" /> That’s it! If somebody knows simpler way how to generate indicators like this I am interested in your feedback.
