Is LinkedBlockingQueue a correct choice for a producer-consumer like scenario?

I have a producer-consumer like scenario. Class A produces objects of type E. I have to hold it in a static data structure in class A, because the consumer logic should be handled in a class B, which has no reference to object of A. Is LinkedBlockingQueue the correct data type for the queue? Or are there any better selection for this?

multiple validation errors showing up for single property

i'm often getting multiple errors showing up for an individual property, when I'd like them to be prioritized, as in, if Required is satisfied, check StringLength, but if Required fails, show that message only. I'm getting inconsistent behavior here, and I'm curious as to how the framework determines this priority? has anyone else had problems with this? Thanks!

In c#, on a windows 7 machine, how can I programmatically access every file on the file system as though I was a "Master Administrator". The main priority here, is that after my c# program is installed, that it won't run into any file/folder access permission problems. My program runs as a windows service, and it must allow a user to backup any files on the file system.

amzi prolog + eclipse question

hey guys i have a question regarding amzi prolog with eclipse, Im running a .pro file which executes a breadth first search and if queue gets too long, the following error message appears: system_error 1021 Control stack full. Compile code or increase .cfg parameter 'control' If so, how may i run the compiled code under eclipse? I've tried running the project but the listener just ends without accepting any queries....?

While I realize that the choice of browser has a greater impact than the library, I'd like to know whether there are any differences between them, before choosing one. Testing code that uses SoftReference<T>

To get any code with SoftReference<T> to be fully tested, one must come up with some way to test the 'yup, it's been nulled' case. One might more or less mock this by using a 'for-test' code path to force the reference to be null, but that won't manage the queue exactly as the GC does. I wonder if anyone out can share experience in setting up a repeatable, controlled, environment, in which the GC is, in fact, provoked into collecting and nulling?

Why do updates inside of a SQL transaction still need disk IO?

In SQL Profiler you can see that very simple updates to a table by primary key take about 10-30ms each. On about every 10th update the write column shows 1, on all other updates it shows 0. This must mean that about every 10th update statement still requires disk IO. I wonder why that is. Would it not be more efficient queue up all IO until the transaction commits?

Kernel error causing cpu to go into shutdown state

What kind of Kernel error can cause the cpu to go into a shut down state? I'm doing a homework assignment in OS, and we did changes in sched.c (adding a new scheduling policy, which involved ading another prio_array to the queue and switching between them when needed). Processes using this policy cause the cpu to enter a shut down state when they finish. Any suggestions where to look?

Hi I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log, I have a web application and console application withe the same Ent Lib config, only the console is capable to log into the Event Log, I tried everything with permissions, but I don't know what exactly I am doing, which services should have what, It does not work!! While a UIScrollView (or a derived class thereof) is scrolling, it seems like all the NSTimers that are running get paused until the scroll is finished. Is there a way to get around this? Threads? A priority setting? Anything?

Using Scala 2.8 RC1 or newer, what is the best (easiest and/or most direct) method to "peek" at the waiting messages in an actor's mailbox (from within the same actor's act() method) in order to examine what is in the queue, without having to react/receive the messages and/or disturb the current contents of the mailbox in any way. The purpose of this is so that an actor may determine if it is safe to process a request to exit by first determining if any of the remaining mailbox messages are ones that must be processed, instead of just dropped by stopping the actor immediately.

50 million+ Rows of Data - CSV or MySQL

Hello, I have a CSV file which is about 1GB big and contains about 50million rows of data, I am wondering is it better to keep it as a CSV file or store it as some form of a database. I don't know a great deal about MySQL to argue for why I should use it or another database framework over just keeping it as a CSV file. I am basically doing a Breadth-First Search with this dataset, so once I get the initial "seed" set the 50million I use this as the first values in my queue. Thanks,
