• Azure Diagnostics wrt Custom Logs and honoring scheduledTransferPeriod

    - by kjsteuer
    I have implemented my own TraceListener similar to http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/05/23/diagnostics-of-cloud-services-custom-trace-listener.aspx . One thing I noticed is that that logs show up immediately in My Azure Table Storage. I wonder if this is expected with Custom Trace Listeners or because I am in a development environment. My diagnosics.wadcfg <DiagnosticMonitorConfiguration configurationChangePollInterval="PT1M""overallQuotaInMB="4096" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2010/10/DiagnosticsConfiguration"> <DiagnosticInfrastructureLogs scheduledTransferLogLevelFilter="Information" /> <Directories scheduledTransferPeriod="PT1M"> <IISLogs container="wad-iis-logfiles" /> <CrashDumps container="wad-crash-dumps" /> </Directories> <Logs bufferQuotaInMB="0" scheduledTransferPeriod="PT30M" scheduledTransferLogLevelFilter="Information" /> </DiagnosticMonitorConfiguration> I have changed my approach a bit. Now I am defining in the web config of my webrole. I notice when I set autoflush to true in the webconfig, every thing works but scheduledTransferPeriod is not honored because the flush method pushes to the table storage. I would like to have scheduleTransferPeriod trigger the flush or trigger flush after a certain number of log entries like the buffer is full. Then I can also flush on server shutdown. Is there any method or event on the CustomTraceListener where I can listen to the scheduleTransferPeriod? <system.diagnostics> <trace> <listeners> <add name="TableTraceListener" type="Pos.Services.Implementation.TableTraceListener, Pos.Services.Implementation" /> <remove name="Default" /> </listeners> </trace> </system.diagnostics> I have modified the custom trace listener to the following: namespace Pos.Services.Implementation { class TableTraceListener : TraceListener { #region Fields //connection string for azure storage readonly string _connectionString; //Custom sql storage table for logs. //TODO put in config readonly string _diagnosticsTable; [ThreadStatic] static StringBuilder _messageBuffer; readonly object _initializationSection = new object(); bool _isInitialized; CloudTableClient _tableStorage; readonly object _traceLogAccess = new object(); readonly List<LogEntry> _traceLog = new List<LogEntry>(); #endregion #region Constructors public TableTraceListener() : base("TableTraceListener") { _connectionString = RoleEnvironment.GetConfigurationSettingValue("DiagConnection"); _diagnosticsTable = RoleEnvironment.GetConfigurationSettingValue("DiagTableName"); } #endregion #region Methods ///
/// Flushes the entries to the storage table ///
public override void Flush() { if (!_isInitialized) { lock (_initializationSection) { if (!_isInitialized) { Initialize(); } } } var context = _tableStorage.GetTableServiceContext(); context.MergeOption = MergeOption.AppendOnly; lock (_traceLogAccess) { _traceLog.ForEach(entry => context.AddObject(_diagnosticsTable, entry)); _traceLog.Clear(); } if (context.Entities.Count > 0) { context.BeginSaveChangesWithRetries(SaveChangesOptions.None, (ar) => context.EndSaveChangesWithRetries(ar), null); } } ///
/// Creates the storage table object. This class does not need to be locked because the caller is locked. ///
private void Initialize() { var account = CloudStorageAccount.Parse(_connectionString); _tableStorage = account.CreateCloudTableClient(); _tableStorage.GetTableReference(_diagnosticsTable).CreateIfNotExists(); _isInitialized = true; } public override bool IsThreadSafe { get { return true; } } #region Trace and Write Methods ///
/// Writes the message to a string buffer ///
/// the Message public override void Write(string message) { if (_messageBuffer == null) _messageBuffer = new StringBuilder(); _messageBuffer.Append(message); } ///
/// Writes the message with a line breaker to a string buffer ///
///  public override void WriteLine(string message) { if (_messageBuffer == null) _messageBuffer = new StringBuilder(); _messageBuffer.AppendLine(message); } ///
/// Appends the trace information and message ///
/// the Event Cache /// the Source /// the Event Type /// the Id /// the Message public override void TraceEvent(TraceEventCache eventCache, string source, TraceEventType eventType, int id, string message) { base.TraceEvent(eventCache, source, eventType, id, message); AppendEntry(id, eventType, eventCache); } ///
/// Adds the trace information to a collection of LogEntry objects ///
/// the Id /// the Event Type /// the EventCache private void AppendEntry(int id, TraceEventType eventType, TraceEventCache eventCache) { if (_messageBuffer == null) _messageBuffer = new StringBuilder(); var message = _messageBuffer.ToString(); _messageBuffer.Length = 0; if (message.EndsWith(Environment.NewLine)) message = message.Substring(0, message.Length - Environment.NewLine.Length); if (message.Length == 0) return; var entry = new LogEntry() { PartitionKey = string.Format("{0:D10}", eventCache.Timestamp >> 30), RowKey = string.Format("{0:D19}", eventCache.Timestamp), EventTickCount = eventCache.Timestamp, Level = (int)eventType, EventId = id, Pid = eventCache.ProcessId, Tid = eventCache.ThreadId, Message = message }; lock (_traceLogAccess) _traceLog.Add(entry); } #endregion #endregion } }

  • Why is zIndex not working from IE/Javascript?

    - by Vilx-

Problem demo

1.
3.

2.

In a nutshell, this script has two DIV elements with position:relative and the first of them has a third DIV with position:absolute in it. It's all set to run on IE-7 standards mode (I'm targeting IE7 and above). I know about the separate z-stacks of IE, so by default the third DIV should be beneath the second DIV. To fix this problem there is some Javascript which sets the z-orders of first and third DIV to 1000, and the z-order of the second DIV to 999. Unfortunately this does not help. If the z-indexes were set in markup, this would work, but why not from JS? Note: This problem does not exist in IE8 standards mode, but I'm targetting IE7, so I can't rely on that. Also, if you save this to your hard drive and then open it up, at first IE complains something about ActiveX and stuff. After you wave it away, everything works as expected. But if you refresh the page, the problem is there again.

  • Media Foundation: Custom Media Source features

    - by Ivan Dyachkoff
    With IMFMediaSource and IMFByteStreamHandler I can access bytes from media source to determine media type and audio/video stream parameters, such as duration, quality, number of streams, etc. But can I replace these bytes and send them back to client? E.g. I receive zip file bytestream, extract actual media and send another bytestream with asf (for example) data. Is this possible?

  • StructureMap with my own attributes in C#

    - by ridecar2
    Hi All, I have an attribute that I have written that has a dependency on the Data Access Layer so I made a constructor that took the DAL class as a parameter (marked with [DefaultConstructor] and another, blank, constructor that is parameterless. When I call a method that depends on the attribute how do I make StructureMap inject the correct type? Thanks Gareth

  • Displaying an NSString on a Custom View

    - by ilovetacos
    I have an interface that has an NSTextField, NSButton, and an NSView. When I type something in the textfield and press the button, I want the text to be drawn in the NSView. So far I have everything connected and working, except for the view. How can I connect the text and the view so that every time I press the button, the text is drawn to the view?

  • C# inheritance of fields

    - by Emil D
    This is probably a silly question, but here it goes.Imagine you have the following classes: public class C { } public class D : C { //A subclass of C } public class A { C argument; } Now, I want to have a class B, that inherits from A.This class would obviously inherit the "argument" field, but I wish to force the "argument" field in B to be of type D, rather than C.Since D inherits from C this shouldn't create any problems. So, how would achieve this in c# ?

    - by Mark Evans
    Hi I've recently installed VS2010 and I'm trying to upgrade a project that I created using VS2008 and WSSF (Web Service Software Factory). I've installed the 2010 version of WSSF and it's prerequisites. After upgrading, when I try to load the solution I get "blah.ssfproduct cannot be opened because its project type (.ssfproduct) is not supported by this version of the application". Absolutely no idea what to do :( Cheers Mark

  • When to use which mysql partitioning model

    - by Industrial
    Ok guys, just starting out with partitioning some tables in mySQL. There's a couple of different ways describing this, but what I cant find is a more practical approach. - Which type of data does each way of partitioning have the best effect on? Or doesn't it really matter?

  • What's the performance penalty of using isKindOfClass in Objective C?

    - by durcicko
    I'm considering introducing: if ([myInstance isKindOfClass:[SomeClass class]]) { do something...} into a piece of code that gets called pretty often. Will I introduce a significant performance penalty? In Objective C, is there a quicker way of assessing whether a given object instance is of certain class type? For example, is the following quicker? (I realize the test is somewhat different) if (myInstance.class == [SomeClass class]) { do something else...}

  • Coding Conventions - Naming Enums

    - by Walter White
    Hi all, Is there a document describing how to name enumerations? My preference is that an enum is a type. So, for instance, you have an enum Fruit{Apple,Orange,Banana,Pear, ... } NetworkConnectionType{LAN,Data_3g,Data_4g, ... } I am opposed to naming it: FruitEnum NetworkConnectionTypeEnum I understand it is easy to pick off which files are enums, but then you would also have: NetworkConnectionClass FruitClass Also, is there a good document describing the same for constants, where to declare them, etc.? • iPad App: Simple Launch View -> SplitViewController

    - by Aurimas
    Hello, I want to create an iPad app that would have a simple view at launch with buttons to different components of the app. Each button then could open up a splitviewcontroller type views. (Interface similar to WebMD: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/webmd-for-ipad/id373185673?mt=8) I was reading online that Apple does not allow splitviewcontroller inside other controllers (like NavigationController). How do I solve this? Thanks!

    - by Epaga
    Is there any way to determine whether a chart in Crystal Reports 2008 (using either the RAS SDK or the older RDC API) is set to display values "for each record" or "for all records"? I can get access to a CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.ChartObject but can't find any API there to access which type of chart it is - "for each" or "for all".
