I'm a .NET developer (how I earn a living).
I would like to learn Ubuntu.
I've installed Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 on my MacAir inside a Parallels VM and it runs perfectly. I'm Pumped!
Now, I'd like to find some documentation specifically for Newbs.
I did a Book Search for "Ubuntu" on Amazon and didn't find much.
Does anyone have any advice for me, or links to documentation specifically targeted to newbs?

I have a mac book pro (7200 rpm / 8GB ram) and I like the idea of virtualized development environments as I like to experiment with different technologies and don't like to have environmental cross contamination. I would like to know for the vm's I run (rarely 2 at time..almost always 1 vm at a time) should the virtual hdd be on my laptops native hdd or some external form (usb hdd, usb flash, or since i have mac express card based sad ?). I don't mind maxing out my ram to 16GB if thats a better option to have in the mix.
Thank you
Is it true what I read that Intel and Motorola are moving from CISC to a programming model more like RISC/MIPS? Why?
From the famous book "Computer Architecture" by Hennessay which usually is recommended around here:
Recent implementations of the x86 architecture actually translate x86
instruction into simple operation that look like MIPS instuctions....

Still doing all your search engine marketing tasks yourself? So... how come your site is not on the first page of Google? It is rare for one person to possess all the skills needed to create a successful website: you need to be versed in website development, graphic design, database and other software development, e-book and content writing, article marketing, and search engine optimization.
You have to keep your eyes and ears open to see any link building opportunity that might have come your way. Mere awareness of your competitors' strategy can help you know certain things which no other SEO book on the web can tell you about.

I picked up a book to learn Visual basic but cannot install it on my system after I download it from this site: http://www.microsoft.com/express/Windows/. I'm assuming my pc is the problem, but have no idea where to start. It seems to stat installing, but then I get a pop up that says: "Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition with SP1 ENU has encountered a problem during setup. Setup did not c...

Search engine optimization is not magic and there is no course book and no formal rules to learn. Effective SEO services are acquired from experience and expertise and are used in tracing the movements and behaviors of various search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc.
Is there a resource or site which illustrates building the same application (desktop or web) using several different contrasting architectures? Such as MVP versus MVVM versus MVC, etc. It would be very helpful to see how they look side-by-side using real-world code instead of comparing written theory to written theory.
I've often found that something can be described well in a book, but when you go to implement it, the subtleties and weaknesses of the theory become readily apparent.
Even a non-technical interviewer can take steps to ensure that an SEO company will meet certain quality standards. Failing to ask some key questions could leave your site ranking worse and your pocket book feeling empty.
In John Jantsch's book "The Referral Engine" talking about search engine optimization he says: "It has become extremely difficult to achieve any measure of success for important keyword phrases without the use of social media. (The flip side is that the organizations that take advantage of social media can dominate, particularly within industries slow to adapt.)"
The most recent critical change to how Google displays search results is the improvement and increased use of "local map" displays for search. Adding the map and phone book style results changes how much real estate is available for SEO's to compete. Getting a "Top 10" is no longer good enough, most screens can only show two or three organic entries after the new and improved map.

If we look back not even ten years ago, the idea of Search Engine Optimization was something that lot of us would have scoffed at the thought of. With the Internet being an underdeveloped idea at the time, we all still referred to the phone book when trying to find a business, or even calling directory assistance.
This article is taken from the book Brownfield Application Development in .NET. The authors define brownfield applications and discuss their three components - existing codebase, contamination by poor practices, and potential for reuse or improvement.
According to the Google logs, Google, the most used search engine in the US, has over 2 billion searches a day and has dramatically decreased the use of a phone book. Fact is that, the internet has changed the way we experience advertising and many businesses have not taken advantage of it yet, especially SEO. But what is search engine optimization and how can you take advantage of it?

I am now halfway through readign this books and I continue to be favourably impressed by it.
It includes many of the new features of C# 4.0, including one that was new to me.
This is a very good C# language manual and I have no hesitation in recommending it both to individuals and to C# development teams. It is good for those learning C# and for those with years of experiance of C#.
