• Silverlight: Use reflection to get the BindingExpression (and value) for controls having a ContentPr

  Hello, I need to use reflection to get the binding value in a control that is a DataGridTemplateColumn (e.g HyperLinkButton). Does anyone know how I might do this? It seems simple enough to do this with a TextBlock because it has a “TextProperty” dependency property, but I can’t seem to get a binding expression from a control that does not have an immediate “TextProperty”. Here is the code I’m using to acquire the binding expression for a TextBlock: FrameworkElement fe = (FrameworkElement)dependencyObj; FieldInfo fi = fe.GetType().GetField("TextProperty"); BindingExpression bindingExpression = fe.GetBindingExpression((DependencyProperty)fi.GetValue(null)) However, the following code never works for a dependency object that is a HyperLinkButton: FieldInfo fi = fe.GetType().GetField("ContentProperty"); Does anyone know how I might be able to get the BindingExpression (and binding value) for the content of a HyperLinkButton? • Silverlight datagrid don't show any data with anonymous query RIA services

  Hi all! I have an anonymous linq query that I bind to a datagrid, when I debug it brings alright the data but it doesn't show in the datagrid, I suspect that the request to RIA services isn't completed before I bound it to the datagrid. I could use the LoadOperation<() Completed event. But it only works with Defined Entities so how can I do that? • Django Development Environment Setup Questions

  Hello, I'm trying to set up a good development environment for a Django project that I will be working on from two different physical locations. I have two Mac machines, one at home and one at work that I do most of my development on. I currently host a Ubuntu virtual machine on one of the machines to host the Django environemnt, install DropBox on it, and edit source code from my Mac. When I save the code file, the changes get synced over DropBox to the Ubuntu VM and the Django development server automatically restarts because of the change. This method has worked well in the past, but I am starting to use DropBox for a lot of other things now and don't want all of that to be downloaded on every virtual machine I use. Plus, I want to start using Eclipse + PyDev to be able to debug code and have code completion. Currently, I use TextEdit which is great, but doesn't support debugging or completion. So what are my options? I thought about setting up a Parallels VM on a thumb drive that has my entire environment on it (Eclipse included), but that has its own problems. Any other thoughts?

Sidebar = StackPanel ListItems = Gadget ButI want it MVVM style OK I have something like a contract IGadget I implemented an custom Export. [ExportGadget(GadgetType = GadgetTypes.News)] I have my NewsGadgetView.xaml (which implements IGadget) and imports the NewsGadgetViewModel and also makes itself available as ExportGadget. so far so good. With this I can create a set of gadgets. Then I have my SidbarView.xaml which imports a sidebarViewModel. and now I get lost... I thought of something like a GadgetFactory which uses PartCreator to create my Gadgets. but this would sit in my SidebarView.xaml But I want to have control over my Gadgets to add and remove them from my sidebar. So I thought about something like an ObserveableCollection... Which I bind to The GadgetHost is basicaly Grid which will dynamicaly load the Gadget.... So how would I create my sidebar containing different gadgets without knowing which Gadgets are available and have a ViewModel for the sidebar as well as for each gadget?... Thanks for any help....

• Getting unhandled exception when DataTemplate is created dynamically using Silverlight 3.0

  Requirement is to create a reusable multi-select combobox custom control. To accomplish this, I am creating the DataTemplate dynamically through code and set the combobox ItemTemplate. I am able to load the datatemplate dynamically and set the ItemTemplate, but getting unhandled exception (code: 7054) when combobox is selected. • Can't access font resource in Silverlight class library

  I have a reasonably large Silveright 3.0 project on the go, and I'm having issues accessing a couple of custom font resources from within one of the assemblies. I've got a working test solution where I have added a custom font as a resource, and can access it fine from XAML using: <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> The test solution consists of the TestProject.Application and the TestProject.Application.Web projects, with all the fun and games obviously in the TestProject.Application project However, when I try this in my main solution, the fonts refuse to show in the correct type face (instead showing in the default font). There's no difference in the way the font has been added to project between the test solution and the main solution, and the XAML is identical. However, there is a solution layout difference. In the main solution, as well as having a MainApp.Application and MainApp.Application.Web project, I also have a MainApp.Application.ViewModel project and a MainApp.Application.Views project, and the problem piece of XAML is the in the MainApp.Application.Views project (not the .Application project like the test solution). I've tried putting the font into either the .Application or .Application.Views project, tried changing the Build Action to Content, Embedded Resource etc, all to no avail. So, is there an issue accessing font resources from a child assembly that I don't know about, or has anyone successfully done this? My long term need will be to have the valid custom fonts being stored as resources in a separate .Application.FontLibrary assembly that will be on-demand downloaded and cached, and the XAML controls in the .Application.Views project will need to reference this FontLibrary assembly to get the valid fonts. I've also tried xcreating this separate font library assembly, and I can't seem to get the fonts from the second assembly. As some additional information, I've also tried the following font referencing approaches: <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/MainApp.Application.Views;/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> <TextBlock Text="Test" FontFamily="pack:application,,,/MainApp.Application.Views;component/FontName.ttf#Font Name" /> And a few similar variants with different assembly references/sub directories/random semi colons. And so far nothing works... anyone struck this (and preferably solved it)?

  Hi, I have a Windows Phone 7 application with the following listbox and every item contains 2 textblocks and a HyperlinkButton. <ListBox.ItemTemplate> In the ViewModel constructor I have the following code: GetCommand = new RelayCommand(() ={some code}); where GetCommand is a property : public RelayCommand GetCommand { get; private set; } My problem is that GetCommand = new RelayCommand(() ={some code}); is not executing when I press the button. I must say that if dont place the HyperlinkButton insise the itemTemplate, everything works fine. • Web development scheme for staging and production servers using Git Push

  I am using git to manage a dynamic website (PHP + MySQL) and I want to send my files from my localhost to my staging and development servers in the most efficient and hassle-free way. I am currently convinced that the best way for me to approach this problem is to use this git branching model to organize my local git repo. From there, I will use the release branches to push to my staging server for testing. Once I am happy that the release code works on the staging server, I can then merge with my master branch and push that to my production server. Pushing to Staging Server: As noted in many introductory git posts, I could run into problems pushing into a non-bare repo, so, as suggested in this response, I plan to push the release branch to a bare repo on the server and have a post-receive hook that clones the bare repo to a non-bare repo that also acts as the web-hosted directory. Pushing to Production Server: Here's my newest source of confusion... In the response that I cited above, it made me curious as to why @Paul states that it's a completely different story when pushing to a live, development server. I guess I don't see the problem. Would it be safe and hassle-free to follow the same steps as above, but for the master branch? Where are the potential pit-falls? Config Files: With respect to configuration files that are unique to each environment (.htaccess, config.php, etc), it seems simplest to .gitignore each of those files in their respective repos on their respective servers. Can you see anything immediately wrong with this? Better solutions? Accessing Data: Finally, as I initially stated, the site uses MySQL databases to store data. How would you suggest I access that data (for testing purposes) from the staging server and localhost? I realize that I may have asked way too many questions for a single post, but since they're all related to the best way to set up this development scheme, I thought it was necessary.

• Silverlight WinDg Memory Release Issue

  Hi, I have used WinDbg succesfully on a number of occasions to track down and fix memory leaks (or more accurately the CLRs inability to garbage collect a released object), but am stuck with one particular control. The control is displayed within a child window and when the window is closed a reference to the control remains and cannot be garbage collected. I have resolved what I believe to be the majority of the issues that could have caused the leak, but the !gcroot of the affected object is not clear (to me at least) as to what is still holding on to this object.   Fisrt of all I have my ClientAccessPolicy.xml file in the root of my website. If I access my website using the public domain name like this: h t t p://www.mydomain.com and then go to the page where my SL control is, I get the spinning % numbers up until about 98%, then it quits and my SL control does not appear on the page. If I access my website using the machine name (website is at datacenter, we have vpn setup) like this: h t t p://machinename and then go to the page where my SL control is everything works fine. this must be a ClientAccess Policy issue don't your think? Or what DO you thnik the issue is? Thanks in advance. • Automaticly Change VisualState in Silverlight

  If you create a simple button and then choose Edit Template - Edit a Copy, Blend will automatically generate a style area, along with all the button states (MouseEnter, MouseLeave, Pressed, etc). No where in the generated code does it say that on a "MouseOver" event, change the state to "MouseOver", but it still manages to work! How does a standard button do it? Is there some sort of AutoEventWireUp going on?

  Hi Until recently I had a combo box that was bound to a Linq queried IEnumerable of a DataService.Obj type in the bind method, and all worked fine private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _GeneralList; private IEnumerable<DataService.Obj> _QueriedList; private void Bind() { _GeneralList = SharedLists.GeneralList; _QueriedList = _GeneralList.Where(q =>q.ID >1000); cmbobox.ItemsSource = _QueriedList; } Then I had to change the method to insert a new obj and set that object as the default obj and now I get a "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception. I know this has to do with inserting into a linq queried ienumerable but I cant fix it. It seems like this is only happening when I have a property that then has a collection and then several items in the collection that I am getting this issue. Has any encountered anything similar? I am try to achieve this all in XAML declaratively.

• Silverlight 3 ArcSegment to always draw circle's

  Hi everyone, Ok, my arcSegment must always draw Circle's. For this reason I calculate the Arc's Width with the following formula: arcXRadius = (4 * Math.Pow(height, 2) + Math.Pow(distanceArcPoints, 2)) / (8 * height); so Arcs.Size = (arcXRadius,height) But seems that the height is scaled down when drawn. I want to add a small Circle to the Arc's middle (highest point) so when you drag it it changes the arc Height but also changes the Width so it will remain a circle. Here's how I calculate the Circle's (highest) point: Point middlePoint = GetMiddlePoint(arcPointA,arcPointB); double arcYRadius = arcSegment.Size.Height; if (arcYRadius <= 0) return middlePoint; double angle = arcSegment.RotationAngle; Point ellinewPoint = new Point(); ellinewPoint.X = Math.Cos((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.X; ellinewPoint.Y = Math.Sin((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.Y; Until Arc's.Size.Height Property gets Closer to the Width my Circle is not at the right Point.
