  • How can I log key presses in Game Maker?

    - by skeletalmonkey
I'm trying to create a log of a players actions as they play a game of Spelunky. The easiest I've found to do this is to log what keys are pressed at each frame. What I don't know how to do is how to integrate this with the Game Maker source code of Spelunky. Is there a specific way to create a script that is checked every frame/tick (don't know the right term) and a command to find what buttons are pressed?

  • cdrom mounting issues

    - by Mezo
This is my very first boot on ubuntu and I noticed the system did not open, pop up anything when I inserted a DVD. Researched a bit about and it seems ubuntu doesn't mount cd drives automatically, is that true or just for my case? I tried some terminal commands and got the cd to mount. Is there a way it will behave like windows, and be there for me when I need it, with no need to play with terminal? thanks for any help. --Mezo

  • How to deal with WYSIWYG editors?

    - by Pino
There are now lots of WYSIWYG editors, however whenever we use one on a CMS-based website we consistently have issues. The biggest being users pasting content from Word or other online sources and all the various formatting rules being added in "behind the scenes". How do you deal with these editors on a live production website? I love Markdown, however its target market is most definitely the tech industry.

  • Checking if %Y exists in current file in VimScript [closed]

    - by Eduan
Like the title says. I would love to know how, with VimScript, I can do an if statement, that checks if %Y (for statusline) exists in the current file. This is what I have so far: if expand('%:Y') != "" let filetype=extend('%:Y') let filetype+= ",\ " else let filetype="" endif This is, of course, for my statusline, for which I don't want to show the filetype comma and space if the filetype doesn't exist. BTW, this is a direct copy of this StackOverflow question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13314264/checking-if-y-exists-in-current-file-in-vimscript

  • Gnome- vs Unity-panel (applet) compatibility?

    - by user5676
I just love the indicator-applet and other parts of the Ayatana-project and think Ubuntu has done an awesome job there. And as the question about applet compatibility seem to be answered as a 'no' I'd like to take the question to the next level - the 'why' and 'why not'. How come these Ayatana-applets today work in gnome-panel but gnome applets won't work in the Unity panel? And - as it's connected - why not make them compatible? Isn't it all about usability?

  • Get rid of 0.5s latency when playing audio over Bluetooth with A2DP

    - by brillout.com
As described in the title I experience a half a second delay when playing audio over Bluetooth with A2DP. This makes watching movies not possible as the sound is not synchronised with the video. I'm not sure if the delay is caused by the Bluetooth connection, the A2PD protocol, or the A2DP implementation on my Ubuntu 12.04. Anyways, is this a normal lag? Is there a way to play audio over Bluetooth without any latency?

  • Is it possible to use mac trackpad gestures on a linux virtualbox? (macbook pro)

    - by David
Specifically, I would just love to use the trackpad to do "three finger swipes" and switch between workspaces, that would just be slick as hell. I imagine this might require a plugin or some such thing, in addition to the disabling of the underlying mac os's responding to the gestures, which is what it currently does. This might be impossible. PS/FYI: I am running ubuntu, but I imagine this might apply to debian builds as well.

  • Webinar: SQL Server Compression Technologies

    - by Greg Low
A while back, we changed the format of our monthly SQL PASS meetings to a virtual format for most meetings, as it makes it easier for a lot of people to attend.Tomorrow (lunch time Melbourne time), I'm delivering another one on compression technologies in SQL Server. In this session, we'll take a tour through vardecimal in 2005, then onto row and page compression in 2008, then xVelocity based compression in 2012, and finally looking at what 2014 offers in this regard. We have a limit on the number of attendees so please don't register if you can't make it but if you can, we'd love to see you online.https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/163499127

  • Simple 2 player server

    - by Sourabh Lal
I have recently started learning javascript and html and have developed simple 2 player games such as tick-tack-toe, battleship, and dots&boxes. However these 2 player games can only be played on one computer (i.e. the 2 players must sit together) However, I want to modify this so that one can play with a friend on a different computer. Any suggestions on how this is possible? Also since I am a beginner please do not assume that I know all the jargon.

  • POSH-y SQL Disk Space Monitoring

    - by merrillaldrich
In a prior post I expressed my dismay that apparently Operations Manager (which I dig in other respects) has no love for SQL Server storage that uses mount points. Herewith, henceforth, forthwith is a PowerShell workaround I am using until I find out I am wrong, or there’s a management pack fix. The crux of the issue, I think, is that SQL Server itself has basically no visibility to the disks mounted using mount points, and that blind spot carries through to the management pack. That much is well...(read more)

  • Shouldn't recruitment be the other way round?

    - by Fanatic23
I really don't know why nobody's thought of this so far, but recruitment should be the other way round. Engineers should have some sort of a common platform where they register skills or domains they are interested in, demonstrate their capabilities and companies should take it up from there. I think this is way more effective since if you are paid well to do work that you love doing, you will generally make a fine job out of it. Does anybody know of some recruitment platform like this?

  • Indicator applet-less applications?

    - by armornick
Since I heard that indicator applets are going to replace the notification area, I wondered what was going to happen to applications that use the notification area and don't have an indicator applet? Is the Ubuntu team going to write an indicator applet for every application out there? You can't expect the developers of applications to add that Ubuntu-only task to their list. Don't get me wrong, I love the indicator applets. But I'm a little concerned about this.

  • Motion is saving images to home directory

    - by Kevin
I was interested in setting up a home security network. I installed Motion in Ubuntu 12.04 and it worked fine. Then the next day I went to play around with it some more but the images are not being saved to /tmp/motion as the configuration file states, but to the home directory: [1] File of type 1 saved to: ./01-20121126211634-12.jpg Any idea if there is another setting that has more priority than the motion config file?

  • Yahoo media player not working with Ruby on rails

    - by luca590
I have a yahoo media player embedded in my webpage. I am currently using Ruby on Rails to create/edit my web page. When i click the play button next to a track the YMP waits a while and then goes to the next track without playing the first one. I then get a warning on my second (last) track that its file could not be found. Does anyone has a better recommendation for an audio player or a way to fix this one?
