  • NHibernate + ASP.NET + Open Session in View + L2Cache

    - by Pedro
I am using CodeProject's well known Open Session in View to handle NHibernate Sessions. Does it works well with Level 2 Cache? Anyone has succeeded doing it? Should I use NH.Burrow instead? Any advice on l2 cache in asp.net best practices is appreciated. Edit: link to CodeProject's article: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/architecture/NHibernateBestPractices.aspx

  • Could I be writing this code better?

    - by Ben Dauphinee
Is there any website out there somewhere where a programmer such as myself might be able to post pieces of code to be looked at by more experienced people? I am thinking of something that programmers could use to have advice given on how to improve their ability. I really like the atmosphere here, but am not sure that posting code for review here is appropriate.

  • What are some good ways to write PHP application with modules support?

    - by Gabriel
Hi, I'm starting to write a application in php with one of my friends and was wondering, if you have any advice on how to implement module support into our application. Or is there a way how to automatically load modules written in php by a php application? Or should i just rely on __autoload function? And we are not using any kind of framework, for now at least.

  • Should I use a resource loader for a SPA, or front-load everything?

    - by Shango
I've been getting into Backbone.js lately and I'm enjoying it so far. All the examples tend to be simple to-do lists, so it's been a little difficult extrapolating code organization and file structure for a larger/more robust single page application. I've come to a crossroad: Should I use something like Yepnope.js to load models and views as I need them or, Combine and minify into fewer files and front-load it all. Some combination of both? Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Installer/packager for a Java application for Ubuntu and SuSE

    - by Dan
I have a Java application complied to a collection of jars that I want to make installable on Ubuntu and SuSE. I Want the installer to be able to check for the JRE, register a file association and be able to load a website on un-install. I understand Ubuntu and SuSE are based on different architectures, so is there a consistent way to do this? Does anyone have an advice on utilities to use or guides to read to help me achieve what I'm trying to do.

  • Rails functional testing without migrations

    - by Brian D.
The name pretty much says it all. Does anyone know how to accomplish functional testing when you are not using migrations in Rails? I'd be open to any advice or third party libraries (if there are any). I thought of creating my own plugin to address this but it seems like a pretty big task and would rather not do this unless necessary. Thanks in advance.

  • How to maintain precision using DateTime.Now.Ticks in C#

    - by nmr
I know that when I use DateTime.Now.Ticks in C# it returns a long value but I need to store it in an int variable and I am confused as to whether or not I can maintain that precision. As of right now I just have a cast int timeStampValue = (int)DateTime.Now.Ticks; Any suggestions or advice on how to maintain the precision, if possible, would be much appreciated.

    - by dartdog

I've been trying to figure out what some minimum charge examples might look like? I'll have a lamp server with Django and a requisite amount of storage but next to no traffic,,Any one have some guidance/advice? My Google searches and look here did not turn up much useful info?

  • Asp.net mvc small amount data storage

    - by Trimack
Hi there, I am writing some learning tests (i.e. what's the answer for...; choose correct options...). Now my question is, how should I store them. SQL db seems quite an overkill, but I really don't know what would be the best choice if I wanted to select random subset of questions etc. Perhaps some simple xml files? Thanks for advice.

  • Whats a valid strategy for a secure image upload from a flash client?

    - by WillyCornbread
Hi all - I'm creating a flash application that will post images to a url for saving to disk/display later. I was wondering what are some suggested strategies for making this secure enough so that the upload is verified as coming from the application and not just some random form post. Is it reliable enough to check referring location realizing that I don't need bulletproof security, or perhaps setting authentication headers is a better strategy even though it seems unreliable from what I have read. Thanks for any advice - b

  • string representation of enum values

    - by robUK
Hello, gcc 4.4.2 c89 I have the following enum: enum drop_options_e { drop_ssm, drop_snm, drop_ssb }; I am just wondering that is the best way to get the string representation value from the enum. So basically, instead of returning the value of 0 for drop_ssm, I could get the 'drop_ssm' instead. Many thanks for any advice,

  • Make a Button Appear Focused When Not

    - by Bret
The Find and Replace dialog in Visual Studio is a perfect example of what im trying to accomplish. Notice how the "Find what" text field has keyboard focus but the "Find Next" button appears bluish as if it has keyboard focus also even though it does not. How can I accomplish this myself? I've tried messing with FocusManager and Focus Scopes without much luck. I suspect i may be barking up the wrong tree? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

  • Rails wiki highlight/strikethrough version differences between article versions

    - by mark
Hi I'm wondering how to implement highlighting of changes to user edited articles on a wiki style rails project. Since articles may be fairly lengthy I'd ideally like strikethrough and highlighting, similar to github and wikipedia for example. Despite searching around the net I've not really come up with much, apart from instiki which is a complete wiki application. Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • rake gems:refresh_specs error on unpacked gems

    - by Urf
Following the great advice of Chris Wanstrath, I decided to vendor everything. However, whenever I run a rake task now I get an error for each of my unpacked gems stating config.gem: Unpacked gem gemname in vendor/gems has no specification file. Run 'rake gems:refresh_specs' to fix this. I've done this but no dice. Anyone have the same issue? If so, how do I resolve? TIA
