    It seems like every weekend I get a new puzzle in my mind. Before continuing I suggest you read my previous posts here where I have shared earlier puzzles. First execute the script which I have written here. Now guess what will be the next value as requested in the query. USE TempDB GO -- Create sequence CREATE SEQUENCE dbo.SequenceID AS DECIMAL(3,0) START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY -1 MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 3 CYCLE NO CACHE; GO SELECT next value FOR dbo.SequenceID; -- Guess the number SELECT next value FOR dbo.SequenceID; -- Clean up DROP SEQUENCE dbo.SequenceID; GO Please note that Starting value is 1, Increment value is the negative value of -1 and Minimum value is 3. Now let us first assume how this will work out. In our example of the sequence starting value is equal to 1 and decrement value is -1, this means the value should decrement from 1 to 0. However, the minimum value is 1. This means the value cannot further decrement at all. What will happen here? The natural assumption is that it should throw an error. How many of you are assuming about query will throw an ERROR? Well, you are WRONG! Do not blame yourself, it is my fault as I have told you only half of the story. Now if you have voted for error, let us continue running above code in SQL Server Management Studio. The above script will give the following output: Isn’t it interesting that instead of error out it is giving us result value 3. To understand the answer about the same, carefully observe the original syntax of creating SEQUENCE – there is a keyword CYCLE. This keyword cycles the values between the minimum and maximum value and when one of the range is exhausted it cycles the values from the other end of the cycle. As we have negative incremental value when query reaches to the minimum value or lower end it will cycle it from the maximum value. Here the maximum value is 3 so the next logical value is 3. If your business requirement is such that if sequence reaches the maximum or minimum value, it should throw an error, you should not use the keyword cycle, and it will behave as discussed.     I'm going to be using Newton in my networked action game with Mogre. There will be two "types" of physics object: global and local. Global objects will be kept in sync for everybody; these include the players, projectiles, and other gameplay-related objects. Local objects are purely for effect, like ragdolls, debris, and particles. Is there a way to make the global objects affect the local objects without actually getting affected themselves? I'd like debris to bounce off of a tank, but I don't want the tank to respond in any way.

  • Updated Payroll Tax Liability Formula for Dynamics GP

    Prior to the latest Payroll Update for Great Plains, you could do an audit check of the Payroll Tax Liability GP calculation by simply taking Federal Tax Witholding + Fica Medicare Withholding times 2 + Fica SSN times 2.  As you probably know by now, the Employers portion of FICA is 6.2% and the Employers portion has been reduced to 4.2%. However, I have had a number of clients contact me and say this formula is no longer applicable and have asked for a revised formula.  The new formula is described below and ties out to a sample Payroll Run using Fabrikam.   As you can see from above, the prior formula is not applicable and the new audit check is as follows; Federal Tax WH  $                  6,655.17   Employee Medicare  $                     408.47   Employees SS  $                  1,746.54   Employer Medicare  $                     408.47   Employer SS  $                  1,746.55 (FICA Owned – FICA Medicare WH)       Total Tax Liability  $               10,965.20   I have talked with Microsoft and at this time, they have no intent on modifying the report to split out the employer (6.2%) and employee (4.2%) FICA portions.

  • Flow Fields in Dynamics NAV

    I don’t know the exact business reason but someone asked how to identify all sales shipping orders with any negative quantities on them.  They needed to print these separately from the shipments that only have all positive quantities. Here is one way to solve this problem In NAV, open Sales Shipment Header Add a field of type Boolean (The field type should match the value you expect to return from the flow field method.  In this case we will use an exist so we expect a bool but we could have used a Sum, Average, Min, Max, Count, or a Lookup to return a value). Define it as a flow field and click on the ellipse next to CalcFormula Now [Has Negative Qty] is false if no negatives exist And [Has Negative Qty] and true if a negative exist So it is ready to be used as a filter on the report. Don’t forget that if you are using it in code, you may need to CalcFields. Hope that helps.  If you really can’t afford the field in your header, you can use code to check the lines for a negative value each time and use a skip or break function to skip that header record but it seems expensive to check them all if you only want a few to print. Please let me know if you think of a better solution.

  • Dynamics AX 2009 Report: LabelPosition above does not work?

    I'm just in the process of changing the SalesInvoice Report. One thing I'm trying to do is show the label of some items not left of the item value but above it instead. Seems easy enough: just change the LabelPosition (for example from CustInvoiceJour_InvoiceId) setting from "left" to "above" and voila: the label has vanished. It is just shown nowhere at all. Strange. I would have expected the label to show up, well, above the content. Not to vanish. Am I missing something (there is no label height to set), or is this functionality broken?

Search and download samples from the online Samples Gallery when the user has internet access. Browse the sample code files and learn the sample documentation of downloaded samples with or without internet access.   In addition to the "browse” function, the Sample Browser could further support “bookmark”, “learning notes”, “code review”, and “quick social sharing". Make full use of the new touch and Windows Store App UI to give developers a new “relaxing” code browsing and learning experience, anytime, anywhere. With Windows Store Sample Browser, developers can enjoy A new relaxing and enjoyable experience for developers to learn code samples You do not have to sit in front of desk and formally open Visual Studio to read code samples.  Many developers get sub-health due to staying in front of desk for a very long time.  With Windows RT, Microsoft Surface and this Windows Store Sample Browser combining with the online MSDN Samples Gallery, developers can sit in a sofa, relaxingly hold the tablet and enjoy to learn their beloved sample code with detailed documentation.     The Tex Live included in Ubuntu 12.04 is very old (2009), and I would like to install the latest version to be able to edit the Ubuntu manual. How do I do that from the terminal? Hello, my name is Chris. I am a student pursuing a career in technical writing and I would like to assist the Ubuntu community while gaining experience & building my resume. I need to install upstream version of TeX Live for 12.04 to edit the manual for Ubuntu. I am having a difficult time installing it per the directions @ http://ubuntu-manual.org/getinvolved/editors#install-texlive. TeX Live documents are on my computer, but I am not able to run the install. No TeX Live program found on my computer.     I'm trying to get a Yaws web server working on a cloud service (Amazon AWS). I've compilled and installed a local copy on the server. My problem is that I can't get Yaws to run while running on either port 8000 or port 80.   • Where does one enter the JavaScript code in CRM Dynamics?

    I've started to play with CRM Dynamics yesterday so this question should be seen as a very basic one. I've been coding for many years but CRM D is news to me. Apparently, one is supposed to be able to enter JavaScript code to customize the behavior of the application. I've understood that there's an API for that and that touching DOM directly or playing with jQuery is a no-no. Question: Where is the JS-code supposed to be entered? I've gone through all the menus but as far I can see, there's no spot where I could plug-in my custom code. E.g.: Where do I get to define a validation for the last name of a contact currently being defined?

  • EFMVC Migrated to .NET 4.5, Visual Studio 2012, ASP.NET MVC 4 and EF 5 Code First

    I have just migrated my EFMVC app from .NET 4.0 and ASP.NET MVC 4 RC to .NET 4.5, ASP.NET MVC 4 RTM and Entity Framework 5 Code First. In this release, the EFMVC solution is built with Visual Studio 2012 RTM. The migration process was very smooth and did not made any major changes other than adding simple unit tests with NUnit and Moq.
