  • T-SQL Tuesday #34: HELP!

    - by merrillaldrich
I owe my career to the SQL Server community, specifically the Internet SQL Server community, so this month’s T-SQL Tuesday is especially poignant. I changed careers “cold” about eight years ago, and, while I had some educational background in computer science, I had relatively little real-world DBA experience. Someone gave me a shot in the form of an entry level job, for which I am grateful, but I also had to make the argument to him that I would figure out whatever I needed to do to be successful...(read more)

  • What's so useful about closures (in JS)?

    - by Mark Bubel
In my quest to understand closures in the context of JS, I find myself asking why do you even need to use closures? What's so great about having an inner function be able to access the parent function's variables even after the parent function returns? I'm not even sure I asked that question correctly because I don't understand how to use them. Can someone give a real world example in JS where a closure is more beneficial vs. the alternative, whatever that may be?

  • Office 365 new public sites

    - by DigiMortal
As I got my Office365 developers benefit activated I decided to try out if public sites on SharePoint are ready for real use or not. The progress is markable and although Microsoft is extremely careful with activating functionalities on public sites there’s still lot of work done and I think it’s worth to take a look at new version of public sites. Here is my first quick overview. Read more from my new blog @ gunnarpeipman.com

  • How to obtain a camera stream from Unity without rendering it to the player's screen?

    - by aiguy
I'd like to stream the output of two cameras to a separate process. Right now, it looks like the best way to do that is to grab the rendered camera views from the screen via platform specific screen capture hooks then compress them real time with h.264. Is there a way to grab the input of the cameras within unity and avoid rendering them to the screen? One solution I'm considering involves using Unity's multiplayer capability to run the game on a separate machine and grab it from that screen buffer, unbeknownst to the player.

  • On The Question Of Automated Website Testing

Almost all webmasters (or at least "quite a lot of webmasters") have heard about the significance of website testing before the production. Having developed a website or a web application, most authors want to publish it immediately and see how people like it. If they ignore prior website testing, the project may appear unprepared for real Internet activity and reveal awful performance.

  • How to tell Facebook which div is the "content" one? (for links summary)

    - by Magnetic_dud
I have a small blog hosted on blogger.com I don't understand why, when people like or share a blog post on Facebook, the real content is never fetched as a summary. For example, for this post, the summary is the small "about me" that I placed on the sidebar, while on this other post, the summary is the first comment. It's weird, what I can do? There is a way, for example a class, to indicate the main content div?

  • Is it a good plan to use 2D physics for a 3D racing game?

    - by user3195897
I am working on a 3D racing game using SDL and OpenGL. I thought it would be easier to use a 2D physics engine, since I really don't need the 3rd dimension. There will be no flying cars or jumps, they will just be stuck to the floor, so I would use 2D colliders and that things to simulate collisions in a plane but render the actual game from a 3D perspective. So the real question is: is it possible, is it a dumb idea, what else can I do?
