    I understand Big-O notation, but I don't know how to calculate it for many functions. In particular, I've been trying to figure out the computational complexity of the naive version of the Fibonacci sequence: int Fib(int n) { if (n <= 1) return 1; else return Fib(n - 1) + Fib(n - 2); } What is the computational complexity of the Fibonnaci sequence and how is it calculated?

  • jquery data selector

    I need to select elements based on values stored in an element's .data() object. At a minimum, I'd like to select top-level data properties using selectors, perhaps like this: $('a').data("category","music"); $('a:data(category=music)'); Or perhaps the selector would be in regular attribute selector format: $('a[category=music]'); Or in attribute format, but with a specifier to indicate it is in .data(): $('a[:category=music]'); I've found James Padolsey's implementation to look simple, yet good. The selector formats above mirror methods shown on that page. There is also this Sizzle patch. For some reason, I recall reading a while back that jQuery 1.4 would include support for selectors on values in the jquery .data() object. However, now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it. Maybe it was just a feature request that I saw. Is there support for this and I'm just not seeing it? Ideally, I'd like to support sub-properties in data() using dot notation. Like this: $('a').data("user",{name: {first:"Tom",last:"Smith"},username: "tomsmith"}); $('a[:user.name.first=Tom]'); I also would like to support multiple data selectors, where only elements with ALL specified data selectors are found. The regular jquery multiple selector does an OR operation. For instance, $('a.big, a.small') selects a tags with either class big or small). I'm looking for an AND, perhaps like this: $('a').data("artist",{id: 3281, name: "Madonna"}); $('a').data("category","music"); $('a[:category=music && :artist.name=Madonna]'); Lastly, it would be great if comparison operators and regex features were available on data selectors. So $(a[:artist.id>5000]) would be possible. I realize I could probably do much of this using filter(), but it would be nice to have a simple selector format. What solutions are available to do this? Is Jame's Padolsey's the best solution at this time? My concern is primarily in regards to performance, but also in the extra features like sub-property dot-notation and multiple data selectors. Are there other implementations that support these things or are better in some way?

About 90% of them are imported perfectly but 10% are rewritten automatically into scientific notation. How do I turn this feature of. I just want all the numbers kept in their standard form.     I've found that in order to use PRISM's classes in XAML you need to import namespace in that way: xmlns:cal="http://www.codeplex.com/CompositeWPF" this way is new to me, so I wanted to know, how hyperlink could be alias of usual notation of namespace import? so the intellisence knows in which assembly it should search this component? I can figure out a better way to name most data types, but I don't know what to do with objects. What would be a good naming convention for objects? I use objRS for recordsets now.     I'm trying to figure how a function I've been given works -- or rather doesn't work. The problematic areas include array notation like this: $small[$end[$i]{0}] I think the idea is to append "0" to the value of $end[$i] and use that for the index of $small. But it doesn't work in PHP5.3. Is this a deprecated syntax and is it trying to do what I think it is?

  • Algorithm: how to check intersections of recurring events definitions?

    The question comes from MS Outlook calendar behavior. Imagine I have two recurring events (starting from today): "each second Monday" and "every odd date". Is there any way to check intersections and/or find the first intersecting date algorithmically without brute-forcing over each date? Definitions can be made in CRON's notations or ICal notation. I think it doesn't matter. Are there any solutions for this in Gregorian calendar?

  • Latex: Listing all figures (tables, algorithm) once again at the end of the document

    Hi all, I have been writhing a rather large document with latex. Now I would like to list all the figures / tables / algortihms once again at the end of the file so that I can check if they all look the same. For example, if every algorithm has the same notation. How can I do this? I know about \listofalgorithms and \listoffigures but they only list the names of the algorithms or figures and the pages where they are. Thanks.

    I am asking because UML is used for informal specifications and has some ambiguities in its semantics. However OCL can be used to specify pre/post conditions and invariants and other constraints quite efficiently I think. I encountered the Z notation and algebraic specifications recently. My question, is combination of UML and OCL sufficient for formal specifications?

    According to their documentation, you should use Array hydration rather than record hydration when retrieving data for read-only purposes. However, this means I have to access the attributes of the retrieved object using arrays and string keys: $user['Phonenumbers'][0]['number'] instead of the OO style: $user->PhoneNumbers[0]->number Now I'm kinda new to PHP, but in other languages I've worked with the 2nd notation would be preferable because typos would be caught at compile time while typos in string literals would not be noticed until runtime. Does this apply to PHP/Doctrine?

    On my midterm I had the problem: t(n) = 8T(n/2) +n^3 and I am supposed to find its big theta notation using either the masters or alternative method. So what i did was a = 8, b = 2 k = 3 log8 (base 2) = 3 = k therefore, T(n) is big theta n^3. I got 1/3 points so i must be wrong. What did I do wrong?

  • Latex: index of symbols

    I want to create an index of symbols or notation, similar to the usual index one obtains with makeindex. I have gotten this to work, using the glossaries package. However, just as in the usual index, I would like to get two columns in the index of symbols, while glossaries puts everything under each other. Commands like twocolumn or multicol also do not work, because then the second column starts higher than the first, above the title of the index of symbols. Any suggestions?
