  • Codeigniter Best Practices for Model functions

    - by user270797
Say my application has a "Posts" model, and one of the function is add_post(), it might be something like: function add_post($data) { $this-db-insert('posts',$data); } Where $data is an array: $data = array ('datetime'='2010-10-10 01:11:11', 'title'='test','body'='testing'); Is this best practice? It means if you use that function you need to know the names of the database fields where as my understanding of OOP is that you shouldnt need to know how the method works etc etc

  • WordPress deactivate a plugin via database?

    - by Scott B
I have a wordpress script, wp-supercache, that I need to disable (as its cached on a nasty error), however, the error is causing the wp-admin redirect to fail, which means I can't get into the site to disable the plugin. Any advice? I can access the database via cpanel.

  • How does changing armv6/armv7 architecture to armv6 affect my iPad app? Will there be performance/st

    - by Flocked
Hello, I need to change the the architectures of "Any iPhone OS Device" from "Optimized (armv6 armv7)" to "Standard (armv6)" for a library. I'm not exactly sure what effect will this have on the performance and stability of my iPad app. If I understand it right, the iPad has the armv7 architecture. I'm not so familiar with architectures, so I don't know what it means.

  • PDO/Oracle vs OCI

    - by jarcoal
The company I work for currently uses some basic functions to abstract the OCI libraries as a means for DB connectivity. We're considering switching to PHP's PDO object, but from some quick searches, it looks like the Oracle driver is a bit less mature than the other PDO drivers. I would appreciate some pro/cons for PDO/Oracle from anyone who has used it in a production environment. Thanks!

  • little oh notation as the limit of n goes to infinity

    - by Tony
Hi all, I'm just trying to understand how in little o notation this is true: f(n)/g(n) as n goes to infinity = infinity? Can someone explain that to me? I do get the idea that f(n) = o(g(n)) means that f(n) grows no faster then cg(n) for all constants c 0. I just don't get the bit in bold above.

  • What's an appropriate HTTP status code to return by a REST API service for a validation failure?

    - by michaeljoseph
I'm currently returning 401 Unauthorized whenever I encounter a validation failure in my Django/Piston based REST API application. Having had a look at the HTTP Status Code Registry I'm not convinced that this is an appropriate code for a validation failure, what do y'all recommend? 400 Bad Request 401 Unauthorized 403 Forbidden 405 Method Not Allowed 406 Not Acceptable 412 Precondition Failed 417 Expectation Failed 422 Unprocessable Entity 424 Failed Dependency Update: "Validation failure" above means an application level data validation failure ie. incorrectly specified datetime, bogus email address etc.

  • How to isolate a single color in an image

    - by Janusz
I'm using the python OpenCV bindings and at the moment I try to isolate a colorrange. That means I want to filter out everything that is not reddish. I tried to take only the red color channel but this includes the white spaces in the Image too. What is a good way to do that?

  • Why is Perl commonly used for writing CGI scripts?

    - by Michael Vasquez
I plan to add a better search feature to my site, so I thought that I would write it in C and use the CGI as a means to access it. But it seems that Perl is the most popular language when it comes to CGI-based stuff. Why is that? Wouldn't it be faster programmed in C or machine code? What advantages, if any, are there to writing it in a scripting language? Thanks.

  • How to dispatch event from application to module in flex

    - by Viliam Husár
Is there a way how modules can listen to parent application event? My current solution that works is: private function directoryRemoteObject_saveCompany_resultHandler(e:ResultEvent):void { this.directoryModuleLoader.child.dispatchEvent(new CompanyEvent(CompanyEvent.COMPANY_SAVED, e.result as int)); } this means that I need to dispatch event for every module. Isn't there better solution? Thanks.

  • Absolute reRendering using RichFaces

    - by wheelie
Hey there, I am implementing copy/paste functionality for a complex object tree, this means you can copy an object and paste it where the object type is the same. Therefore I need to reRender the <a4j:commandLink>-s which are performing the paste action (so it will show on the GUI or not). Simplified example: Problem is that copy links are deep in the tree. How is it possible to reRender on a higher level in the component tree? (very)Simplified example: ... <h:form id="form1"> ... <a4j:commandLink value="Copy" reRender=":paste1, :paste2, :paste3" /> <a4j:commandLink id="paste1" value="Paste" rendered="#{myBean.myHashMap.key}" /> <a4j:outputPanel> <a4j:region renderRegionOnly="true"> <a4j:commandLink value="Copy" reRender=":paste1, :paste2, :paste3" /> <a4j:commandLink id="paste2" value="Paste" rendered="#{myBean.myHashMap.key}" /> </a4j:region> <a4j:outputPanel> <a4j:region renderRegionOnly="true"> <a4j:commandLink value="Copy" reRender=":paste1, :paste2, :paste3" /> <a4j:commandLink id="paste3" value="Paste" rendered="#{myBean.myHashMap.key}" /> </a4j:region> </a4j:outputPanel> </a4j:outputPanel> ... </h:form> Something like that. In practise this differs in that a rich:tree is displayed. Also, there can be multiple instances of the same paste link: object:0::paste3, object:1::paste3. private final String pasteIDs = ":xxPaste, ... , :xyPaste"; According to the RichFaces reference, putting the separator to the beginning of the ID means it is an "absolute" search expression, however this way i get the same result: only the 'local' paste link gets rerendered, the others not. Every copy-paste link pair is encapsulated in <a4j:region renderRegionOnly="true">, because it is necessary for other components to restrict the reRender to that region. Could this be blocking the reRender I want to make? Also I want to rerender exactly those paste links, so no other rerender action is triggered. Hope it is clear what i want to achieve. Any help would be appreciated! Daniel

  • XSLT: Whole table columns count.

    - by kalininew
Good afternoon, gentlemen. Please help us solve the problem, I do not have enough brains to solve it by myself. There is a table, you must define "simple" it or "complicated". Table "simple" if each row contain only two column, otherwise it is "complicated" table. How to do this means xslt.

  • C# immutable object usage best practices? Should I be using them as much as possible?

    - by Daniel
Say I have a simple object such as class Something { public int SomeInt { get; set; } } I have read that using immutable objects are faster and a better means of using business objects? If this is so, should i strive to make all my objects as such: class ImmutableSomething { public int SomeInt { get { return m_someInt; } } private int m_someInt = 0; public void ChangeSomeInt(int newValue) { m_someInt = newvalue; } } What do you reckon?

  • Just curious, in NetBeans IDE 6.1 how can i get icons for my custom GUI components in the GUI editor

    - by Coder
This is by no means really important, i was just wondering if the community knows how to put icons for my custom GUI components that show up in the NetBeans GUI designer. What i did was make several Swing components and then i use the menu options to add them to the GUI pallete, but they show up with "?" icons. It would be nice if they showed up with icons similar to swing components such as JButtons, especially for components which are subclassed for Swing components. Thanks!

  • What does this Eclipse icon mean in a Merge Results view?

    - by user68759
I just did an svn merge from a branch to a trunk in my Eclipse IDE, and in the Merge Results view, there is this following icon: I am dying to know what it means. I have searched the entire Eclipse documentation and some relevant StackOverflow questions, but couldn't find anything. The CollabNet documentation about Merge Results View explains what a Merge Results View is, but doesn't mention anything about the meanings of its icons. Does anyone know? Thanks!

  • Is my understanding of "select distinct" correct?

    - by paxdiablo
We recently discovered a performance problem with one of our systems and I think I have the fix but I'm not certain my understanding is correct. In simplest form, we have a table blah into which we accumulate various values based on a key field. The basic form is: recdate date rectime time system varchar(20) count integer accum1 integer accum2 integer There are a lot more accumulators than that but they're all of the same form. The primary key is made up of recdate, rectime and system. As values are collected to the table, the count for a given recdate/rectime/system is incremented and the values for that key are added to the accumulators. That means the averages can be obtained by using accumN / count. Now we also have a view over that table specified as follows: create view blah_v ( recdate, rectime, system, count, accum1, accum2 ) as select distinct recdate, rectime, system, count, value (case when count > 0 then accum1 / count end, 0), value (case when count > 0 then accum2 / count end, 0) from blah; In other words, the view gives us the average value of the accumulators rather than the sums. It also makes sure we don't get a divide-by-zero in those cases where the count is zero (these records do exist and we are not allowed to remove them so don't bother telling me they're rubbish - you're preaching to the choir). We've noticed that the time difference between doing: select distinct recdate from XX varies greatly depending on whether we use the table or the view. I'm talking about the difference being 1 second for the table and 27 seconds for the view (with 100K rows). We actually tracked it back to the select distinct. What seems to be happening is that the DBMS is actually loading all the rows in and sorting them so as to remove duplicates. That's fair enough, it's what we stupidly told it to do. But I'm pretty sure the fact that the view includes every component of the primary key means that it's impossible to have duplicates anyway. We've validated the problem since, if we create another view without the distinct, it performs at the same speed as the underlying table. I just wanted to confirm my understanding that a select distinct can not have duplicates if it includes all the primary key components. If that's so, then we can simply change the view appropriately.

  • In Jetty, can NCSARequestLog be configured to auto-detect the time zone?

    - by David Moles
It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system?

  • What does the * symbol do near a function argument and how to use that in others scenarios?

Example scenario (this method was from the Ruby on Rails 3 framework: def find(*args) return to_a.find { |*block_args| yield(*block_args) } if block_given? options = args.extract_options! if options.present? apply_finder_options(options).find(*args) else case args.first when :first, :last, :all send(args.first) else find_with_ids(*args) end end end
