Where can i find good practice python problems with solutions?
I'm looking for detailed practice problems that are designed with a coding purpose in mind.
I've been searching the internet a lot for UML modeling tools that support version control systems, like svn, but I haven't found anything about it. Does anyone know a good uml modeling tool, preferrably free, with version control support?
I've just signed up for the Google group entitled Test Driven Development but it's only had 3 posts in 2010 and seems to be littered with spam.
Does anyone know of a good TDD focussed place to ask those general perhaps 'subjective' questions which might not be welcomed on SO?
I know I can call it whatever, but just like there is a convention for project's namespace (xmlns:local), is there a good name I could call the Properties namespace so that any coder could walk up to my code and instantly recognize it? Currently, I use xmlns:Properties, but that's too long in my opinion.

What is the easiest language to start with?
What programming language should I choose for an independent study language?
Well as the title says what language is good for a beginner and for a hobby? I'll probably be making some games or desktop apps with a gui most likely. I'll be working in Windows and Linux. Oh and could you also give some links to tutorials for the language?
I've been fortunate to have two very good theory professors; I've take 'Algorithms' and 'Advanced Algorithms' with them, and both classes have been outstanding. I'd like to get them "fun" theory books, something like Proofs Without Words but a little cheaper. Any recommendations?
Is there any good tutorials to convert HTML+ CSS to wordpress? not PSD 2 HTML? I mean if
HTML CSS is available wejust need to convert a XHTML CSS template to installable Wordpress 3.0 Theme? I'm not talking about PSD 2 HTML.
For example this is free CSS template http://www.freecsstemplates.org/preview/regeneracy/ I just want to download it and convert this css template into Wordpress 3.0 installable theme.
For example:
void Date::month(unsigned int inMonth) {
assert(inMonth <= 12);
_month = inMonth;
}
If this is not good practice, what is the correct way to go about this?
I am looking for knowledgebase/faq software with a developer license that is written in c#.
I have found a couple of good options for VB but would prefer C#.
I'm spending a lot of time programming and as I'm right now quite late with my work I need to work harder than usual.
I find the combination of white background and black font not so good. But it seems I can't find the proper one.
What do you use folks?
Thank you!
Should I create my own End-User Software License (with a lawyer), or are there some good examples of one on the Internet?
I'm getting close to rolling out my first Windows-based program for my side-business. I would like to have the end-users to agree not to: resell the software, change/modify it, use it in another application, etc.
Any and all help appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi, I am looking for a RPC stack that can be used between a Java Server and C++ clients.
My requirements are:
Ease of integration (for both C++ and Java)
Performance, especially number of concurrent connections and response time. Payload are mostly binaries (8-100kb)
I found some like:
http://code.google.com/p/protobuf-socket-rpc/
http://code.google.com/p/netty-protobuf-rpc/
Are there any other good alternatives?
I'm having trouble with a JVM running an app, whose heap memory looks like a comb. It's constantly jumping from 1.5 GB to 3 GB and slowly deteriorating to higher values. I'm using G1 GC algorithm, but have no idea how to configure it.
I do not have access to the code of the app I'm running and, needless to say, it's a rather large app.
So, bottom line, does anyone know of a good guide to configure GC in Java?
This seems like a lot of work; to check for null each time an object is used.
I have been advised that it is a good idea to check for null pointers so you don't have to spend time looking for where segmentation faults occur.
Just wondering what the community here thinks?
I've looked at some of the Eclipse and Hibernate tutorials and the ones for Hibernate2 are pretty good, pretty intuitive. Recently I tried to setup Hibernate3, using the Eclipse plugin, and failed to get the Hibernate tools to work, outside of physically moving the jar files from the plugins directory to my lib directory (I should have to do this!)
I am relatively new to Javascript and constantly need to look up how to handle various events for objects. For example, I have a table containing a few text fields and need to know when somebody starts typing in any of the text boxes. Is there any good concise reference on the web anyplace that documents all of the objects and event handlers associated with all objects? I'd like to be able to look up the object and see all of the events I can handle for that object.
Yes i know the phrase "virtual constructor" makes no sense but i still see articles like this
one: http://www.informit.com/guides/content.aspx?g=cplusplus&seqNum=184
and i'v heard it mentioned as a c++ interview.
What is the general consensus?
Is a "Virtual Constructor" good practice or something to be avoided completely?
Thanks in advance.
I want to have an EC2 based cluster that can grow and shrink at will. No node will be special in any way nor do I want them to have to coordinate their names with any other nodes. I don't want to hard code the names since I want to use one image and spin them up as needed. I understand nodes have to have names to communicate, though. What's a good strategy for automatically and dynamically coming up with a name at start script time?
Hi,
In a php/mysql application where people can registre, is it a good idea to strtolower the username then store in the database in order to not have problems in the future? because people are using DiFfeReNt cases and i'm afraid that will make conflict in some queries.
Thanks

I am still relatively new to programming and as I start to write longer and more complex codes, it gets very confusing and hard to reread. Are there some general good practices that every programmer should use?
I've sometimes seen code like this:
class Something(object):
class Else(object):
def __init__(self):
pass
def __init__(self):
# Do something with self.Else...
pass
Is it a good idea to define classes inside related classes? Is this an acceptable way to group related code?
I am finding myself doing a lot more messing around with scripts than I used to and my lack of knowledge in this area (and linux sysadmin/security in general), is becoming a hindrance.
Can anyone recommend a good online resource for bash scripting/linux admin. Preferably, it will be in pdf format, so I can copy it (single file) onto my PDA.
I want to get a bachelors degree and I am currently majoing computer science. I'm looking at Full Sail University for web development program and it looks promising but does anyone know how it is? Also can anyone suggest some colleges with good web development programs?
