I have an unknown number of functions in my python script (well, it is known, but not constant) that start with site_...
I was wondering if there's a way to go through all of these functions in some main function that calls for them.
something like:
foreach function_that_has_site_ as coolfunc
if coolfunc(blabla,yada) == true:
return coolfunc(blabla,yada)
so it would go through them all until it gets something that's true.
thanks!
Python is filled with little neat shortcuts.
For example:
self.data = map(lambda x: list(x), data)
and (although not so pretty)
tuple(t[0] for t in self.result if t[0] != 'mysql' and t[0] != 'information_schema')
among countless others.
In the irc channel, they said "too many to know them all".
I think we should list some here, as i love using these shortcuts to shorten & refctor my code. I'm sure this would benefit many.

I am trying to get python to make noise when certain things happen. Preferably, i would like to play music of some kind, however some kind of distinctive beeping would be sufficient, like an electronic timer going off. I have thus far only been able to make the system speaker chime using pywin32's Beep, however this simply does not have the volume for my application.
Any ideas on how I can do this?
hello.
What is the pythonic way to test if there is a tuple starting with another tuple in collection? actually, I am really after the index of match, but I can probably figure out from test example
for example:
c = ((0,1),(2,3))
# (0,) should match first element, (3,)should match no element
I should add my python is 2.4 and/or 2.5
thanks
I want to run a cmd exe using a python script.
I have the following code:
def run_command(command):
p = subprocess.Popen(command, shell=True,
stdout=subprocess.PIPE,
stderr=subprocess.STDOUT)
return p.communicate()
then i use:
run_command(r"C:\Users\user\Desktop\application\uploader.exe")
this returns the option menu where i need to specify additional parameter for the cmd exe to run. So i pass additional parameters for the cmd exe to run.
How do i accomplish this. I've looked at subprocess.communicate but i was unable to understand it
How can I split a line in Python at a non-printing ascii character (such as the long minus sign hex 0x97 , Octal 227)?
I won't need the character itself. The information after it will be saved as a variable.

I'm new in python and I'm having some issues doing a simple thing.
I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this:
list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw']
As you see each element of this array contains some words. These words is both lowercase and uppercase.
How I can delete from this array each lowercase words?
For example I'd like to have as result this list:
list = [ 'NICE' , 'FLOWER' , 'GOOD' , 'YELLOW']
I'm running a python program. When it get's to these lines:
f = open("/dev/bus/usb/007/005", "r")
x = fcntl.ioctl(f.fileno(), 0x84005001, '\x00' * 256)
It fails saying:
IOError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted
What could be causing this problem?
Good day chaps.
I'm interested in learning how to invert (make a negative of) an image using the python image libary module.

I want to break a Python string into its characters.
sequenceOfAlphabets = list( string.uppercase )
works.
However, why does not
sequenceOfAlphabets = re.split( '.', string.uppercase )
work?
All I get are empty, albeit expected count of elements
class A:
def __init__(self):
print "world"
class B(A):
def __init__(self):
print "hello"
B()
hello
In all other languages I've worked with the super constructor is invoked implicitly. How does one invoke it in Python? I would expect super(self) but this doesn't work

I am looking to setup a automated screen scraper that will run on Google app engine using python. I want it to scrape the site and put the specified results into a Entity in app engine. I am looking for some directions on what to use. I have seen beautifulsoup but wonder if people could recommend anything else that could run on Google App engine.
I'm writing a shell for a project of mine, which by design parses commands that looks like this:
COMMAND_NAME ARG1="Long Value" ARG2=123 [email protected]
My problem is that Python's command line parsing libraries (getopt and optparse) forces me to use '-' or '--' in front of the arguments. This behavior doesn't match my requirements.
Any ideas how can this be solved? Any existing library for this?
I just installed python 2.6 on my mac, mainly because I couldn't find freeze in my 2.5 distribution. I am wondering where freeze is. Is it even installed at all in the mac distribution?
Hi folks,

I need to be able to block the urls that are stored in a text file on the hard disk using Python. If the url the user tries to visit is in the file, it redirects them to another page instead. How is this done?
I'm trying to work with sockets and I have such problem
In code example:
setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET,IN.SO_BINDTODEVICE,self.listen_address+'\0')
I have error
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SO_BINDTODEVICE'
On Linux machine this attribute is OK but on FreeBSD trere are no any SO_* attributes in module IN. What port should I install to resolve this problem on FreeBDS machine?
Python versions on Linux tested:
2.5.4 and 2.6.4;
on FreeBSD:
2.5.5
I can't find anything about this module in my book, and googling keyword IN looks like seamless ...
