  • a macro question for c language (#define)

    - by Daniel
    I am reading source code of hoard memory allocator, and in the file of gnuwrapper.cpp, there are the following code #define CUSTOM_MALLOC(x) CUSTOM_PREFIX(malloc)(x) What's the meaning of CUSTOM_PREFIX(malloc)(x)? is CUSTOM_PREFIX a function? But as a function it didn't defined anywhere. If it's variable, then how can we use variable like var(malloc)(x)? more code: #ifndef __GNUC__ #error "This file requires the GNU compiler." #endif #include <string.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <malloc.h> #ifndef CUSTOM_PREFIX ==> here looks like it's a variable, so if it doesn't define, then define here. #define CUSTOM_PREFIX #endif #define CUSTOM_MALLOC(x) CUSTOM_PREFIX(malloc)(x) ===> what's the meaning of this? #define CUSTOM_FREE(x) CUSTOM_PREFIX(free)(x) #define CUSTOM_REALLOC(x,y) CUSTOM_PREFIX(realloc)(x,y) #define CUSTOM_MEMALIGN(x,y) CUSTOM_PREFIX(memalign)(x,y)

  • How do I "step over" jQuery code while debugging?

    - by Scott Rippey
    While stepping through a script that uses jQuery, I just want to test the code I wrote. I don't want to step into the jQuery file -- I'm not debugging jQuery, just my own file. Are there any ways to tell a debugger to not step into the jQuery file? I use Visual Studio + Internet Explorer, as well as Firefox + Firebug for stepping through code ... and both seem to love to step through dozens of jQuery statements. For example, say I have a script like this: $("div").each(function() { $(this).hide(); }); I would like to press "step into" and not see the implementation of ".each()" etc... In C#, this is possible by using the [DebuggerStepThrough()] attribute on a class. But that doesn't help with JavaScript.

  • What do you consider a good API Documentation?

    - by Daniel
    I have always liked the documentation on Java APIs, generally speaking, but I know some people consider them lacking. So I'm wondering, what do you consider a good example of API documentation? Please, include a link or an actual example in any answer. I want to have references that I (and others, of course) can use to improve our own documents.

  • PHP/MySQL Problem

    - by Scott
    Why does this only print the sites specific content under the first site, and doesn't do it for the other 2? <?php echo 'NPSIN Data will be here soon!'; // connect to DB $dbhost = 'localhost'; $dbuser = 'root'; $dbpass = 'root'; $conn = mysql_connect($dbhost, $dbuser, $dbpass) or die ('Error connecting to DB'); $dbname = 'npsin'; mysql_select_db($dbname); // get number of sites $query = 'select count(*) from sites'; $result = mysql_query($query) or die ('Query failed: ' . mysql_error()); $resultArray = mysql_fetch_array($result); $numSites = $resultArray[0]; echo "<br><br>"; // get all sites $query = 'select site_name from sites'; $result = mysql_query($query); // get site content $query2 = 'select content_name, site_id from content'; $result2 = mysql_query($query2); // get site files // print info $count = 1; while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result, MYSQL_NUM)) { echo "Site $count: "; echo "$row[0]"; echo "<br>"; $contentCount = 1; while ($row2 = mysql_fetch_array($result2, MYSQL_NUM)) { $id = $row2[1]; if ($id == ($count - 1)) { echo "Content $contentCount: "; echo "$row2[0]"; echo "<br>"; } $contentCount++; } $count++; } ?>

  • Function to convert a z-score into a percentage

    - by Daniel
    Google doesn't want to help! I'm able to calculate z-scores, and we are trying to produce a function that given a z-score gives us a percent of the population in a normal distribution that would be under that z-score. All I can find are references to z-score to percentage tables. Any pointers?

  • preg_replace replacing with array

    - by Scott
    What I want to do is replace the "[replace]" in input string with the corresponding vaule in the replace array. The total number of values will change but there will always be the same number in the replace array as in input string. I have tried doing this with preg_replace and preg_replace_callback but I can't get the pattern right for [replace], I also tried using vsprintf but the % in <table width="100%"> was messing it up. All help is greatly appreciated! Replace Array: $array = array('value 1','value 2','value 3'); Input String $string = ' <table width="100%"> <tr> <td>Name:</td> <td>[replace]</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Date:</td> <td>[replace]</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Info:</td> <td>[replace]</td> </tr> </table> '; Desired Result <table width="100%"> <tr> <td>Name:</td> <td>value 1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Date:</td> <td>value 2</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Info:</td> <td>value 3</td> </tr> </table>

  • Hacking the WordPress Category Widget

    - by Scott B
    The default WordPress categories widget does not allow excluding named categories. I've created a plugin which creates adds a Customized category widget to the "Available Widgets" listing which gives me some control over the items I want to exclude. Code is below... <?php /* Plugin Name: Custom Categories Widget Plugin URI: http://mysite.com Description: Removes the Specified Categories from the Default Categories Listing Author: Me Version: 1.0 Author URI: http://mysite.com */ function widget_my_categories() { wp_list_categories('exclude=1'); } function my_categories_init() { register_sidebar_widget(__('Custom Categories Widget'), 'widget_my_categories'); } add_action("plugins_loaded", "my_categories_init"); ?> However, I want the generated code to emulate the same look and feel as the default categories widget (ie, the word "categories" appears as a bullet in my widget, but as an h4 level heading element in the default categories widget. I want the same structure to be applied to my custom widget as the default categories widget has. I'd also like to give the user the options to specify the title of the categories listing (just as they can do in the default categories widget). btw, I'm using id 1 which is the default "uncategorized" category and assigning items to that category that I don't want to appear in the listing. Any help much appreciated! :)

  • What data (if any) persists across web-requests in Ruby on Rails?

    - by Daniel Beardsley
    I decided to use the singleton design pattern while creating a view helper class. This got me thinking; will the singleton instance survive across requests? This led to another question, Which variables (if any) survive across web requests and does that change depending on deployment? (Fastcgi, Mongrel, Passenger, ...) I know that Controller instance variables aren't persisted. I know Constants are persisted (or reloaded?). But I don't know about class variables, instance variables on a class, Eigenclasses, ...

  • What's the logic flaw in this conditional?

    - by Scott B
    I've created this code branch so that if the permalink settings do no match at least one of the OR conditions, I can execute the "do something" branch. However, I believe there is a flaw in the logic, since I've set permalinks to /%postname%.html and it still tries echo's true; I believe I need to change the ORs to AND, right? if (get_option('permalink_structure') !== "/%postname%/" || get_option('my_permalinks') !== "/%postname%/" || get_option('permalink_structure') !== "/%postname%.html" || get_option('my_permalinks') !== "/%postname%.html")) { //do something echo "true"; }

  • WordPress > Cannot get custom meta settings to change once set...

    - by Scott B
    The script below adds a custom meta box to the WordPress page editor interface. It lists two specific categories, "noindex" and "nofollow", which my custom theme automatically installs when the theme is activated. It works fine for selecting and assigning the categories to the page. However, if the user unchecks either of them, the settings do not stick. Once selected, they cannot be removed from the page, regardless if they are unchecked when the page is saved. <?php function my_post_categories_meta_box() { add_meta_box('categorydiv', __('Page Options'), 'post_categories_meta_box_modified', 'page', 'side', 'core'); } function post_categories_meta_box_modified($post) { $noindexCat = get_cat_ID('noindex'); $nofollowCat = get_cat_ID('nofollow'); if(in_category("noindex")){ $noindexChecked = " checked='checked'";} if(in_category("nofollow")){ $nofollowChecked = " checked='checked'";} ?> <div id="categories-all" class="ui-tabs-panel"> <ul id="categorychecklist" class="list:category categorychecklist form-no-clear"> <li id='category-<?php echo $noindexCat ?>' class="popular-category"><label class="selectit"><input value="<?php echo $noindexCat ?>" type="checkbox" name="post_category[]" id="in-category-<?php echo $noindexCat ?>"<?php echo $noindexChecked ?> /> noindex</label></li> <li id='category-<?php echo $nofollowCat ?>' class="popular-category"><label class="selectit"><input value="<?php echo $nofollowCat ?>" type="checkbox" name="post_category[]" id="in-category-<?php echo $nofollowCat ?>"<?php echo $nofollowChecked ?> /> nofollow</label></li> </ul> </div> <?php } add_action('admin_menu', 'my_post_categories_meta_box'); ?>

  • Huge burst of memory in c# service, what could be the cause?

    - by Daniel
    I'm working on a c# service application and i have this problem where out of no where and for no obvious reason, the memory for the process will climb from 150mb to almost 2gb in about 5 seconds and then back to 150mb. But nothing in our system should be using any where near that amount of memory (so its probably a bug somewhere). It might be a tight while true loop somewhere but the cpu usage at the time was very low so i thought i'd look for other ideas. Now the weirder thing is when i compile the service for 64bit, the same massive burst will occur except it exceeded 10gb of ram (paging most of it) and it just caused lots of problems with the computer and everything running on it. After a while it shuts down but it looks like windows is still willing to give it more memory. Would you have any ideas or tools that i can use in order to find this? Yes it has lots of logging however nothing in the logs stand out as to why this is happening. I can run the service in a console app mode, so my next test was going to be running it in visual studio debugger and see if i can find anything. It only happens occasionally but usually about 10-20 minutes after startup. On 32bit mode it cleans up and continues on like normally. 64bit mode it crashes after a while and uses stupid amounts of memory. But i'm really stumped as to why this is happening!!!

  • Google Analytics - Goal Funnel Steps

    - by Daniel
    Is there a way to test the url you're entering in a step, to see if Google Analytics will recognize it? What I'd like to do is provide some web page or some web service with a URL, and get a pass or fail. It passes if Google Analytics recognizes a page hit to the url. Let me give some context. We've been having issues with our goal funnel steps in Google Analytics. The instructions on adding steps say not to use the domain. e.g. DO NOT use : http://www.mysite.com/step1.html INSTEAD use: /step1.html Our custom CRM uses friendly urls and as a result GA is having a hard time picking up on them. So we've experimented with changing around url we've placed in the step, however we've got to wait a day to see if the new url we've provided is going to work! Hence why we're looking for something quicker.

  • JQuery not removeing added element

    - by Scott
    What I want to do is add and remove list items. I have got it to add new items to the list and I can remove existing ones but not the ones that have been added. It seem like it would work but it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated! Here the code: JQuery: <script type="text/javascript"> $(function(){ $('a#add').click(function(){ $('<li><a href="#" id="remove">--</a>List item</li>').appendTo('ul#list'); }); $('a#remove').click(function(){ $(this).parent().remove(); }); }); </script> HTML: <a href="#" id="add">Add List Item</a> <ul id="list"> <li><a href="#" id="remove">--</a> List item</li> <li><a href="#" id="remove">--</a> List item</li> <li><a href="#" id="remove">--</a> List item</li> <li><a href="#" id="remove">--</a> List item</li> </ul>

  • Composable FLinq expressions

    - by Daniel
    When doing linq-to-sql in c#, you could do something like this: var data = context.MyTable.Where(x => x.Parameter > 10); var q1 = data.Take(10); var q2 = data.Take(3); q1.ToArray(); q2.ToArray(); This would generate 2 separate SQL queries, one with TOP 10, and the other with TOP 3. In playing around with Flinq, I see that: let data = query <@ seq { for i in context.MyTable do if x.Parameter > 10 then yield i } @> data |> Seq.take 10 |> Seq.toList data |> Seq.take 3 |> Seq.toList is not doing the same thing. Here it seems to do one full query, and then do the "take" calls on the client side. An alternative that I see used is: let q1 = query <@ for i in context.MyTable do if x.Param > 10 then yield i } |> Seq.take 10 @> let q2 = query <@ for i in context.MyTable do if x.Param > 10 then yield i } |> Seq.take 3 @> These 2 generate the SQL with the appropriate TOP N filter. My problem with this is that it doesn't seem composable. I'm basically having to duplicate the "where" clause, and potentially would have to duplicate other other subqueries that I might want to run on a base query. Is there a way to have F# give me something more composable? (I originally posted this question to hubfs, where I have gotten a few answers, dealing with the fact that C# performs the query transformation "at the end", i.e. when the data is needed, where F# is doing that transformation eagerly.)

  • Where is the 'indeterminate type'?

    - by Daniel
    I'm defining the following type extension: type System.Reflection.MemberInfo with member x.GetAttribute<'T when 'T :> Attribute>(required, inherit') = match required, Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(x, typeof<'T>, inherit') with | true, null -> invalidOp (sprintf "Missing required attribute: %s" typeof<'T>.FullName) | _, attr -> attr :> 'T The last match expression (attr :> 'T) gives the error: The static coercion from Attribute to 'T involves an indeterminate type based on information prior to this program point. Static coercions are not allowed on some types. Further type annotations are needed. I've tried annotating the function return type, but got the same result. I would hate to change this to a dynamic cast. Is there a way to make the static cast work?

  • SQL Syntax for testing objects before creating views & functions

    - by Scott Weinstein
    I'm trying to figure out the syntax for creating a view (or function) but only if a dependent CLR assembly exits. I've tried both IF EXISTS (SELECT name FROM sys.assemblies WHERE name = 'MyCLRAssembly') begin create view dbo.MyView as select GETDATE() as C1 end and IF EXISTS (SELECT name FROM sys.assemblies WHERE name = 'MyCLRAssembly') create view dbo.MyView as select GETDATE() as C1 go Neither work. I get Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'view'. How can this be done?

  • can the web.config be changed so roles wouldn't work any more?

    - by Scott J.
    I have had two instances of this problem, first on my local computer, now on the main site. Users can log in to the site, but it doesn't seem to recognize their roles. When I log in (which the database still recognizes as having the role admin), the code does not recognize it as being in the admin role. If there are other web.configs in subfolders, would that cause the problem? What could possibly cause this issue? Thanks! scojomodena

  • As a Web Developer, how complicated is your average job compared to this?

    - by Daniel S
    I'm 16 years old, and I've recently started to do freelance jobs. I've been playing with PHP since I was 12 and think that I can code reasonably well. So far, I've created a library for fetching info from LinkedIn profiles and some WordPress plugins. However, right now this client wants me to convert an HTML template into a WordPress theme for use as a website. I feel this is a tad easy. As professional web programmers, are most assignments harder than this?
