  • E.cancel loop in Visual basic

    - by Ahmed
I am making an server control application ( simple with some buttons to start/stop the server ) And when the user wants to close the application there will be prompted an confirm box. Private Sub Form1_FormClosing(sender As Object, e As FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing Dim response As Integer response = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to stop the server", vbYesNo, "Stop Server ?") If response = vbYes Then Shell("cscript ""stop.vbs""", 1) Close() Else e.Cancel = True End If End Sub That is the code I have now. But when I start the application and close it with the X button or with "Close Window" I will be prompted with the question until I click on no, then it will close. It's a loop and it stops when you first click on yes then on no. Can someone help me with solving this ?

  • Using IF statements to find string length in array for alignment (Visual Basic)

    - by Brodoin
My question is just as it says in the title. How would one use IF statements to find the string-length of content in an array, and then make it so that they show up in a Rich Text Box with the left sides aligned? Noting that one value in my array is a Decimal. Imports System.IO Imports System.Convert Public Class frmAll 'Declare Streamreader Private objReader As StreamReader 'Declare arrays to hold the information Private strNumber(24) As String Private strName(24) As String Private strSize(24) As String Private decCost(24) As Integer Private Sub frmAll_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'Set objReader objReader = New StreamReader("products.csv") 'Call the FillArray sub to fill the array Call FillArray() End Sub Private Sub FillArray() 'Declare variables and arrays Dim decCost(24, 1) As Decimal Dim strFields() As String Dim strRec As String Dim intCount As Integer = 0 Dim chrdelim As Char = ToChar(",") 'Set strRec to read the lines strRec = objReader.ReadLine 'Do while loop to fill array. Do While strRec <> Nothing strFields = strRec.Split(chrdelim) strNumber(intCount) = strFields(0) strName(intCount) = strFields(1) strSize(intCount) = strFields(2) decCost(intCount, 0) = ToDecimal(strFields(3)) decCost(intCount, 1) = ToDecimal(strFields(4)) 'Set strRec to read the lines again strRec = objReader.ReadLine 'increment the index intCount += 1 Loop 'Call the Calculate sub for calculation Call Calculate(decCost) End Sub Private Sub Calculate(ByVal numIn(,) As Decimal) 'Define arrays to hold total cost Dim decRowTotal(24) As Decimal 'Define variables to hold the counters for rows and columns Dim intR As Integer Dim intC As Integer 'Calcualte total cost For intC = 0 To 1 For intR = 0 To 24 decRowTotal(intR) += numIn(intR, intC) * 1 Next Next 'Call the Output sub to configure the output. Call Output(numIn, decRowTotal) End Sub Private Sub Output(ByVal NumIn(,) As Decimal, _ ByVal RowTotalIn() As Decimal) 'Variables Dim strOut As String Dim intR As Integer = 0 Dim intC As Integer = 0 'Set header for output. strOut = "ID" & vbTab & "Item" & vbTab & vbTab & vbTab & "Size" & _ vbTab & vbTab & vbTab & vbTab & "Total Price" & _ vbCrLf & "---------- ... -------------------------" & vbCrLf 'For loop to add each line to strOut, setting 'the RowTotalIn to currency. For intC = 0 To 24 strOut &= strNumber(intC) & vbTab strOut &= strName(intC) & vbTab strOut &= strSize(intC) & vbTab strOut &= RowTotalIn(intC).ToString("c") & vbCrLf Next 'Add strOut to rbtAll rtbAll.Text = strOut End Sub End Class Output It shows up with vbTabs in my output, but still, it looks similar in that they are not aligned. The first two do, but after that they are not, and I am totally lost. • How to manipulate a gridview in asp.net when the columns in the gridview are generated during runtim

    - by Nandini
Hi guys, In my application,i have a gridview in which columns are created at runtime.Actually these columns are created when i am entering data in a database table. My gridview is like this:- Description | Column1 | Column2 | Column3 | ...... |....... |......... Input volt | 55 | 56 | 553 |........ Output volt | 656 | 45 | 67 | where Column1,Column2,column3 may vary during runtime.i need to enter values to these columns during runtime. But i cant bind these columns because these are created during runtime. The first column "Description" will not change. It will remain constant. For each description, there will be values for each column. At last these data will be saved to the database. How to add columns in the gridview during runtime?

  • Case insensitive string compare in LINQ-to-SQL

    - by BlueMonkMN
I've read that it's unwise to use ToUpper and ToLower to perform case-insensitive string comparisons, but I see no alternative when it comes to LINQ-to-SQL. The ignoreCase and CompareOptions arguments of String.Compare are ignored by LINQ-to-SQL (if you're using a case-sensitive database, you get a case-sensitive comparison even if you ask for a case-insensitive comparison). Is ToLower or ToUpper the best option here? Is one better than the other? I thought I read somewhere that ToUpper was better, but I don't know if that applies here. (I'm doing a lot of code reviews and everyone is using ToLower.) Dim s = From row In context.Table Where String.Compare(row.Name, "test", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) = 0 This translates to an SQL query that simply compares row.Name with "test" and will not return "Test" and "TEST" on a case-sensitive database.

  • Try catch finally blocks.. do i still need them?

    - by Phil
I am handling errors via my global.asax in this method: Dim CurrentException As Exception CurrentException = Server.GetLastError() Dim LogFilePath As String = Server.MapPath("~/Error/" & DateTime.Now.ToString("dd-MM-yy.HH.mm") & ".txt") Dim sw As System.IO.StreamWriter = New System.IO.StreamWriter(LogFilePath) sw.WriteLine(DateTime.Now.ToString) sw.WriteLine(CurrentException.ToString()) sw.Close() In my code I currently have no other error handling. Should I still insert try, catch, finally blocks? Thanks.

  • How can avoid at this line an OverflowException?

    - by SoMoS
LastInput.time is an Integer and m_idleTime is an Integer too. This line sometimes generates an Overflow exception, I think that this happens when both values are big negative values. (Environment.TickCount - lastInput.time) > m_idleTime How can I avoid that? With casting? (CType(Environment.TickCount,Long) - CType(lastInput.time,Long)) > m_idleTime Or maybe with this cast? CType((Environment.TickCount - lastInput.time),Long) > m_idleTime Thanks in advance.

  • Do you gain any operations when you constrain a generic type using where T : struct?

    - by Fiona Holder
This may be a bit of an abstract question, so apologies in advance. I am looking into generics in .NET, and was wondering about the where T : struct constraint. I understand that this allows you to restrict the type used to be a value type. My question is, without any type constraint, you can do a limited number of operations on T. Do you gain the ability to use any additional operations when you specify where T : struct, or is the only value in restricting the types you can pass in?

  • vb.net inline IF with OR... not evaluating

    - by rockinthesixstring
I'm working on a small problem where I'm trying to show/hide a panel based on two criteria A specific data field must not be blank The specific data filed must also not equal "Not Relocatable" Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be working for me (note that setting either one or the other criteria works just fine.) <asp:Panel runat="server" Visible='<%#If(Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "_236")) Or Not DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "_236") = "Not Relocatable", True, False)%>'> <tr> <td> </td> <td class="align-right lightgreen"> Buyer would consider relocating a business, if it is: </td> <td> </td> <td colspan="3"> <%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "_236")%> </td> <td> </td> </tr> </asp:Panel> Can anyone lend a hand to rectify this problem for me?

  • Dynamically creating objects at runtime that inherit from a base class

    - by Homeliss
I am writing a game editor, and have a lot of different "tool" objects. They all inherit from BTool and have the same constructor. I would like to dynamically populate a toolbox at runtime with buttons that correspond to these tools, and when clicked have them create an instance of that tool and set it as the current tool. Is this possible, and if so will it be better/easier than creating those buttons by hand?

  • VS2010's "Public Property <PropertyName> As <DataType> vs. Public var

    - by Velika2
In VS2008, I used to type Public Property <PropName> As <dataType> and hit the Enter key and the IDE editor would automatically expand it out to a full blown property block. Now, from what I understand, a new feature of 2010 is that the compiler automatically "expands" the short syntax above into the same IL code that you would get with the full property GET AND SET sub methods that were are accustomed to seeing before in the editor. But functionality, how the heck is this any different than just having a Public class level variable? If the only diff is what it compiles to and if otehrwise there is no functional difference, isn't the new way less efficient than the old since it involves more code than just having a class level memory variable? Public as I thought that if you weren't going to have code behind your properties that they were essentially the same. I guess the diffrenece is that they just added the keyword "Property" but functionality, their is no diff, eh?

  • How to implement a download for dynamic files in asp.net with masterpages

    - by Tim
Hello, the title says it all. I have seen some similar questions on SO like this or this, but either i have overlooked something or my requirement is different, neither works. My situation is following: i have a Masterpage one of its contentpage is called MasterData.aspx MasterData has an asp.net ajax tabcontainer control with one usercontrol in every tabpanel these usercontrols(f.e. MD_Customer.ascx)hold the main content(like a normal page) they all have GridViews in it and i want to provide an Excel-Export-Button What i've tried is is to use an iframe like here. But the function that adds the iframe to the document gets never called and therefore i never see the save-as-dialog. Maybe this is caused by using a MasterPage. Does somebody has an idea on how to provide a button in an UpdatePanel that causes an async postback, so that i can generate a CSV dynamically in codebehind and write it to the response? Thank you in advance. aspx-markup: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdGridInfo" runat="server" > <ContentTemplate> <asp:Label ID="LblInfo" Font-Underline="false" runat="server" CssClass="content" ></asp:Label>&nbsp;&nbsp; <asp:ImageButton ToolTip="export to Excel" style="vertical-align:bottom" ID="BtnExcelExport" ImageUrl="~/images/excel2007logo.png" runat="server" /> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> and the BtnExportExcel codebehind handler(of course it cannot work to write the csv to the response of this page): Private Sub BtnExcelExport_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.ImageClickEventArgs) Handles BtnExcelExport.Click Dim csv As String = tableToCsv(DirectCast(Me.GridSource, DataTable)) Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=RuleConfigurationFile.csv") Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream" Response.Write(csv) Response.End() End Sub

  • Synclock a section of code while waiting for ShowDialog to return

    - by clawson
I'm having trouble working out how to lock my application out of a section of code while it waits for a response from an external program. I've used Synclock on a section of code with the Me object in the expression. In this Synclock I call an overridden ShowDialog method of a dialog box, which has a timeout parameter, but does return the value from the underlying ShowDialog function call ,once the timer is setup. Works like this. SyncLock Me Dim frmDlgWithTimeout As New frmDlgWithTimeout ' dialog box with overridden ShowDialog ' Dim res As DialogResult = frmDlgWithTimeout.ShowDialog(10 * 1000) ' 10 sec timeout ' End SyncLock Now, external programs may raise events that bring my application to this Synclock but it doesn't prevent it from entering it, even though the ShowDialog function hasn't returned a value (and hence what I thought would keep the section of code locked). There is only one instance of the object that is used for lock in the program. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • What is wrong with this null check for data reader

    - by Phil
c.Open() r = x.ExecuteReader If Not r("filename").IsDbnull Then imagepath = "<img src='images/'" & getimage(r("filename")) & " border='0' align='absmiddle'" End If c.Close() r.Close() I have also tried; If r("filename") Is DBNull.Value Then imagepath = String.Empty Else imagepath = "<img src='images/'" & getimage(r("filename")) & " border='0' align='absmiddle'" End If c.Close() r.Close() The error is: Invalid attempt to read when no data is present. The idea of my code is to build an img src string only when data is available. Help greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • User control loosing its contents when loaded programatically

    - by Phil
I have a usercontrol which contains 2 repeaters and the code to populate them with data. If i manually insert this into the page then it works correctly, the repeaters populate etc. If I load it programatically using this method; 1) add class name to user control ClassName="ContentModule" 2) reference this in the default.aspx <%@ Reference Control="~/modules/content.ascx" %> 3) Add the code to my codebehind page_load to do the loading; Private loadmodule As ASP.ContentModule Try If themodule = "content" Then loadmodule = CType(LoadControl("~\Modules\Content.ascx"), ASP.ContentModule) Modulecontainer.Controls.Add(loadmodule) End If Catch ex As Exception Response.Write(ex.ToString & "<br />") End Try Nothing from within the usercontrol is loaded to the page. Although if I add some static text i.e "TEST" to the top of the usercontrol this is displayed ok on the default.aspx page. This makes me think that the control is loaded ok, but there is something in the way I have loaded it that is causing the contents to not properly execute. Very frustrating this one! Any help greatly appreciated!

  • P0ST variables to web server?

    - by OverTheRainbow
Hello I've been trying several things from Google to POST data to a web server, but none of them work: I'm still stuck at how to convert the variables into the request, considering that the second variable is an SQL query so it has spaces. Does someone know the correct way to use a WebClient to POST data? I'd rather use WebClient because it requires less code than HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse. Here's what I tried so far: Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim wc = New WebClient() 'convert data wc.Headers.Add("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded") Dim postData = String.Format("db={0}&query={1}", _ HttpUtility.UrlEncode("books.sqlite"), _ HttpUtility.UrlEncode("SELECT id,title FROM boooks")) 'Dim bytArguments As Byte() = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("db=books.sqlite|query=SELECT * FROM books") 'POST query Dim bytRetData As Byte() = wc.UploadData("http://localhost:9999/get", "POST", postData) RichTextBox1.Text = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(bytRetData) Exit Sub Dim client = New WebClient() Dim nv As New Collection nv.Add("db", "books.sqlite") nv.Add("query", "SELECT id,title FROM books") Dim address As New Uri("http://localhost:9999/get") 'Dim bytRetData As Byte() = client.UploadValues(address, "POST", nv) RichTextBox1.Text = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(bytRetData) Exit Sub 'Dim wc As New WebClient() 'convert data wc.Headers.Add("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded") Dim bytArguments As Byte() = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("db=books.sqlite|query=SELECT * FROM books") 'POST query 'Dim bytRetData As Byte() = wc.UploadData("http://localhost:9999/get", "POST", bytArguments) RichTextBox1.Text = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(bytRetData) Exit Sub End Sub Thank you.

  • Syntax error converting the nvarchar value to a column of data type int.

    - by Phil
I have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 stored as nvarchar inside Level in my db. I then have a dropdownlist with values 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. When a user makes a selection (i.e 1) (Level.SelectedValue.ToString). This builds an sql query via a param like this: "Select things From MBA_EOI Where level = 1" When I run the select I get the following error: Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9' to a column of data type int. I was under the impression that I was dealing with an Nvarchar field and the selected value as string, where does the int conversion come in? p.s I have also tried Level.SelectedItem.ToString

  • How to display some data differnetly than it is stored.

    - by Ben
Hello, I seem to have a problem that I can't find a solution for. I have a table that has this format. projectId | departmentId | plan | ETC | month | year | ID But, I need to find a way to take that data and display it like this. Since this is my first time here I can't upload an image, but you can view it here. http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/8253/image004y.png Is this something a gridview can handle, or a repeater, or something else? Thank you. Ben
