• Flex: CursorManager does nothing when `stage.mouseChildren = false`?

    - by David Wolever
I've found that if I use the CursorManager to set a cursor — CursorManager.setBusyCursor() — then set stage.mouseChildren = false, the cursor set by CursorManager is replaced by the "default" mouse cursor the next time the mouse is moved. I'm setting stage.mouseChildren = false so that, while the mouse is being dragged, other "stuff" on the stage won't get mouse events (eg, so that mouse-over affordances aren't triggered if I'm in the middle of a drag). Is there some way I can work around this?

  • Can't run the ActionBarCompat sample

    - by David Miler
I am having trouble compiling and running the ActionBarCompat sample of Android 16. I have API level 16 as the build target selected, which seems to build fine, but when I try to debug these errors pop up. Of course I could change the min API level in the manifest, but what would be the point of that? I have made no changes to the sample, so how come it is not working properly? Class requires API level 14 (current min is 3): android.view.ActionProvider SimpleMenuItem.java /ActionBarCompat/src/com/example/android/actionbarcompat line 129 Android Lint Problem Class requires API level 14 (current min is 3): android.view.ActionProvider SimpleMenuItem.java /ActionBarCompat/src/com/example/android/actionbarcompat line 134 Android Lint Problem Class requires API level 14 (current min is 3): android.view.MenuItem.OnActionExpandListener SimpleMenuItem.java /ActionBarCompat/src/com/example/android/actionbarcompat line 155 Android Lint Problem I am thoroughly confused, any help would be appreciated.

  • How does one declare the type of an Android preference?

    - by David R.
I have a preferences.xml that looks like this: <PreferenceScreen xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <EditTextPreference android:name="Sample" android:enabled="true" android:persistent="true" android:summary="Sample" android:defaultValue="3.0" android:title="Sample" android:key="sample" /> </PreferenceScreen> When I do sp.getString("sample", "3.0"), it works fine and returns a string, but it shouldn't be a string, it should be a float. Running sp.getFloat("sample", 3.0f) throws a ClassCastException because it is a string. What should I put in the XML so that the preference is stored as a float?

  • Improving File Read Performance (single file, C++, Windows)

    - by david
I have large (hundreds of MB or more) files that I need to read blocks from using C++ on Windows. Currently the relevant functions are: errorType LargeFile::read( void* data_out, __int64 start_position, __int64 size_bytes ) const { if( !m_open ) { // return error } else { seekPosition( start_position ); DWORD bytes_read; BOOL result = ReadFile( m_file, data_out, DWORD( size_bytes ), &bytes_read, NULL ); if( size_bytes != bytes_read || result != TRUE ) { // return error } } // return no error } void LargeFile::seekPosition( __int64 position ) const { LARGE_INTEGER target; target.QuadPart = LONGLONG( position ); SetFilePointerEx( m_file, target, NULL, FILE_BEGIN ); } The performance of the above does not seem to be very good. Reads are on 4K blocks of the file. Some reads are coherent, most are not. A couple questions: Is there a good way to profile the reads? What things might improve the performance? For example, would sector-aligning the data be useful? I'm relatively new to file i/o optimization, so suggestions or pointers to articles/tutorials would be helpful.

  • C++ array initialization without assignment

    - by david
This question is related to the post here. Is it possible to initialize an array without assigning it? For example, class foo's constructor wants an array of size 3, so I want to call foo( { 0, 0, 0 } ). I've tried this, and it does not work. I'd like to be able to initialize objects of type foo in other objects' constructor initialization lists. Is this possible?

  • my .jar file won't do anything.

    - by David
I created a program that more or less holds an array of strings as an object and randomly prints one. so basicaly class Happy { string[] namestrings = new string[#] constructor() { fill with some strings} public static void main (String[]arg) { create instance of class do some junk with it method that prints it } method that prints it {} another method } when i compile and run it on the command line it works fine but when on the comand line i type in jar -cf Happy.jar Fun.class i get a .jar file called Happy and when i click on it i get an error message that reads "the java Jar file happy could not be launched read the consol for possible error messages" I have a mac i'm running lepord if that makes a diference. Whats going on?

  • Resolving Assemblies, the fuzzy way

    - by David Rutten
Here's the setup: A pure DotNET class library is loaded by an unmanaged desktop application. The Class Library acts as a plugin. This plugin loads little baby plugins of its own (all DotNET Class Libraries), and it does so by reading the dll into memory as a byte-stream, then Assembly asm = Assembly.Load(COFF_Image); The problem arises when those little baby plugins have references to other dlls. Since they are loaded via the memory rather than directly from the disk, the framework often cannot find these referenced assemblies and is thus incapable of loading them. I can add an AssemblyResolver handler to my project and I can see these referenced assemblies drop past. I have a reasonably good idea about where to find these referenced assemblies on the disk, but how can I make sure that the Assmebly I load is the correct one? In short, how do I reliably go from the System.ResolveEventArgs.Name field to a dll file path, presuming I have a list of all the folders where this dll could be hiding)?

  • How do I make an iframe 100% height of a containing div in Firefox?

    - by David
I'm having some trouble figuring out how to extend an iframe to 100% of it's container element in Firefox and IE (it works fine in Chrome). From searching around, it makes sense that there has to be a width specified on the containing div (and possibly body and html as well). However, I have done that, and the iframe is still not extending. Do all of the parent divs have to have a specified width and position for this to work, or just the containing parent? Any fix for this would be greatly appreciated! Here's what I have:

  • Helping managers and customers understand SOA

    - by David
I frequently hear Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) being tossed around as a buzzword among non-technical customers or program managers with little concern or understanding for what it actually entails (example: "Can I buy a SOA?"). There's also a lot of misinformation about SOA (example: "Only web apps can use SOA") and a general lack of understanding for its capabilities (example: "SOA can make your make all of your data work together"). What are some key facts that you, as someone who understand the technical side of SOA, use to educate program managers on the appropriate use and understanding of SOA? What's the best way to set the record straight with non-technical folks?

  • Xcode: view references for a variable?

    - by David.Chu.ca
    I am new to Xcode. I am not sure if there is a way to view a variable's references just like "Find all references" in Visual Studio by right click on a var? For example, in my .h file, I would like to know or view all the references for property isSet: @interface MyInterface { ... BOOL isSet; // view all references to this var? ... }

  • GetAcceptExSockaddrs returns garbage! Does anyone know why?

    - by David
Hello, I'm trying to write a quick/dirty echoserver in Delphi, but I notice that GetAcceptExSockaddrs seems to be writing to only the first 4 bytes of the structure I pass it. USES SysUtils; TYPE BOOL = LongBool; DWORD = Cardinal; LPDWORD = ^DWORD; short = SmallInt; ushort = Word; uint16 = Word; uint = Cardinal; ulong = Cardinal; SOCKET = uint; PVOID = Pointer; _HANDLE = DWORD; _in_addr = packed record s_addr : ulong; end; _sockaddr_in = packed record sin_family : short; sin_port : uint16; sin_addr : _in_addr; sin_zero : array[0..7] of Char; end; P_sockaddr_in = ^_sockaddr_in; _Overlapped = packed record Internal : Int64; Offset : Int64; hEvent : _HANDLE; end; LP_Overlapped = ^_Overlapped; IMPORTS function _AcceptEx (sListenSocket, sAcceptSocket : SOCKET; lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; lpdwBytesReceived : LPDWORD; lpOverlapped : LP_OVERLAPPED) : BOOL; stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'AcceptEx'; procedure _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (lpOutputBuffer : PVOID; dwReceiveDataLength, dwLocalAddressLength, dwRemoteAddressLength : DWORD; LocalSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; LocalSockaddrLength : LPINT; RemoteSockaddr : P_Sockaddr_in; RemoteSockaddrLength : LPINT); stdcall; external MSWinsock name 'GetAcceptExSockaddrs'; CONST BufDataSize = 8192; BufAddrSize = SizeOf (_sockaddr_in) + 16; VAR ListenSock, AcceptSock : SOCKET; Addr, LocalAddr, RemoteAddr : _sockaddr_in; LocalAddrSize, RemoteAddrSize : INT; Buf : array[1..BufDataSize + BufAddrSize * 2] of Byte; BytesReceived : DWORD; Ov : _Overlapped; BEGIN //WSAStartup, create listen socket, bind to port 1066 on any interface, listen //Create event for overlapped (autoreset, initally not signalled) //Create accept socket if _AcceptEx (ListenSock, AcceptSock, @Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @BytesReceived, @Ov) then WinCheck ('SetEvent', _SetEvent (Ov.hEvent)) else if GetLastError <> ERROR_IO_PENDING then WinCheck ('AcceptEx', GetLastError); {do WaitForMultipleObjects} _GetAcceptExSockaddrs (@Buf, BufDataSize, BufAddrSize, BufAddrSize, @LocalAddr, @LocalAddrSize, @RemoteAddr, @RemoteAddrSize); So if I run this, connect to it with Telnet (on same computer, connecting to localhost) and then type a key, WaitForMultipleObjects will unblock and GetAcceptExSockaddrs will run. But the result is garbage! RemoteAddr.sin_family = -13894 RemoteAddr.sin_port = 64 and the rest is zeroes. What gives? Thanks in advance!

  • Luntbuild + svn - set tagging directory using variables

    - by David Belanger
Hi, I'm using Luntbuild with Subversion and would like to have our svn tagging environment specific (dev, testing, etc.) and I'm wondering if there's a way to use a variable in the VCS Adapters section. I'm looking for something like this: Directory for tags: tags/Builds/${env}/Service Where ${env} is a variable I can set in the Luntbuild builders section or elsewhere. Does anyone know if what I'm wanting is possible? Thanks.

  • iPhone Application: force landscape mode, strange behaviour...?

    - by David Lawson
This is a method I use to switch display views, based on a string passed (for example you could pass MainMenuViewController to switch views to a new instance of that class): - (void)displayView:(NSString *)newView { NSLog(@"%@", newView); [[currentView view] removeFromSuperview]; [currentView release]; UIViewController *newView = [[NSClassFromString(newView) alloc] init]; [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; [self setCurrentView:newView]; [[self view] addSubview:[currentView view]]; } I have my application forced into landscape view (.plist and -shouldRotate), but if you look in the code: [[newView view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460)]; I have to set the frame of the newView to a portrait frame for the view to be displayed correctly - otherwise, for example, a button on the new view can only be pressed in certain parts of the screen (rectangle up the top), unresponsive anywhere else. Even though in all my NIB files they are set to landscape.

  • How do I deliver mail for wildcard addresses to a particular user/alias/program?

    - by David M
I need to configure sendmail so that mail delivered for wildcard addresses is accepted for delivery and then delivered to a user, alias, or directly to a script. I can rewrite the envelope/headers any number of ways, but I don't know how to accept the wildcard address when it's provided in RCPT TO: Everything I've tried so far winds up with a 550 user unknown error. So here's a specific example: I want to be able to handle any address that consists of a series of digits followed by a dot followed by a word, then pipe that to a script. If the headers get rewritten, that's OK, but I need the envelope to contain the actual Delivered-To address. Here's the sort of SMTP session I need: 220 blah.foo.com ESMTP server ready; Thu, 22 Apr 2010 20:41:08 -0700 (PDT) HELO blort.foo.com 250 blah.foo.com Hello blort.foo.com [10.1.2.3], pleased to meet you MAIL FROM: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.0 <[email protected]>... Sender ok RCPT TO: <[email protected]> 250 2.1.5 <[email protected]>... Recipient ok I tried some stuff with regex maps, but I never got past 550 user unknown.

  • How did this get 8?

    - by David
    Here's the code: class qual { public static int fibonacci(int n) { if (n == 0 || n == 1) { return 1; } else { return fibonacci(n-1) + fibonacci(n-2); } } public static void main(String[] arg) { System.out.println(fibonacci(5)); } } The output was 8. The output should be 8 but when I look at this I think it should be 7 ((5-1) +(5-2)). Why was the output 8? I think the reasoning behind getting 8 will make recursion maybe stop being confusing for me.

  • Calling a javascript function from an aspx.cs code behind

    - by David Hodgson
Hi, I would like to call a javascript function from an aspx control. For instance, suppose I had:

Untitled Page

<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Button" onclick="Button1_Click"/>

and in the code behind: protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // do stuff (really going to a database to fill x and y) int[] x = new int[] { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; int[] y = new int[] { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 }; // call javascript function as test(x,y); } Is there a way to do it? • PHP / javascript live chat using too much bandwidth

    - by David
So I am learning about javascript, so I am making a live chat system with PHP and javascript. I have it so the javascript refreshes the log (each message gets logged in a file on the server), and it refreshes every second. Im using firebug to monitor the resource usage, and I see under the net tab each times its updated, and the bytes add up really fast. I know I can change it to update less, but is there a way that when a user on the other end I'm talking to, when the send a message, it gets sent to the server, then an alert gets sent to me saying that the chatlog needs to update somehow. That way it only updates when the log is updated. let me know, thanks

  • Android: Defined array resource not found ?!

    - by David
Hi, i have a strange (?) error in my android application. I have defined some arrays in values/arrays.xml the following way: <resources> <array name="perimeter">
10 miles

20 miles

30 miles
</array> <array name="regvalues">
1

2

3
</array> </resources> Now I want to use them in a ListPreference for a PreferenceActivity (defined by an xml file). So i set android:entries="@array/perimeter" android:entryValues="@array/regvalues" for this ListPreference. When I try to use this on my device the app crashes. (NullPointer in Dialog.close()) If I try to use the regvalues-items as Entries for the ListPreference i get a NullPointer in ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(int, View, ViewGroup, int) line: 355 So there seems to be sth wrong with the regvalues array. But what ?!? Eclipse shows me no errors at compile time. So everything in the xml-file and java-code is written correctly and there are no typos. Where is the problem?!?

  • How can I determine when an InnoDB table was last changed?

    - by David M
I've had success in the past storing the (heavily) processed results of a database query in memcached, using the last update time of the underlying tables(s) as part of the cache key. For MyISAM tables, that last changed time is available in SHOW TABLE STATUS. Unfortunately, that's usually NULL for InnoDB tables. In MySQL 4.1, the ctime for an InnoDB in its SHOW TABLE STATUS line was usually its actual last update time, but that doesn't seem to be true for MySQL 5.1. There is a DATETIME field in the table, but it only shows when a row has been modified - it cannot show the deletion time of a row that's not there anymore! So, I really cannot use MAX(update_time). Here's the really tricky part. I have a number of replicas that I do reads from. Can I figure out the state of the table that doesn't rely on when the changes have actually been applied? My conclusion after working on this for a while is that it's not going to be possible to get this information as cheaply as I'd like. I'm probably going to cache data until the time that I expect the table to change (it's updated once a day), and let the query cache help out where it can.
