• Executing Windows administrative shell commands on Windows using Python

  I have a batch script using Windows shell commands to perform several administrative actions. The script is running great on Windows 7 but when i try launching it from Python 2.6 nothing happens: import os a = os.popen("somebatchfile.bat") I assume that this is because the bat file uses several commands that require an administrative privileges but i don't want to prompt to a password using runas.exe or embedding the password within the code. Is there any way to make UAC prompt for user approval or something?

  I know of FireShot, a firefox extension, for saving up whole pages of images. And I love it. Great idea, and a very good implementation. But unfortunatelly, often on this kind of sites, you have links which get lost that way. So I'm wondering, is there a way to save in the same manner whole blog posts, wiki posts, StackOverflow posts :), as PDF files, so the links get saved as well ?

  Hi all In SharePoint 2010 there is a prerequisite installer. There are options to install the prerequisites from a local source. That's great, but is it also possible to tell the prerequitiinstaller to download the files and keep them in its prerequisite directory? I don't want to download the files manually as it is a big pain in the back to get these files from the Microsoft website.

  I'm thinking of getting the Dell UltraSharp U2311H monitor which apparently comes with a DisplayPort. (I used the word "apparently" because I find DisplayPort support a little bit too good to be true, coming from Dell. But great news nonetheless if it's really true) I plan to connect it to a Mac Book Pro (2010) via a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. Has anyone tried this setup? Does it work? Thanks.

The Linux boot loader asks me which system to boot, but if I reboot and forget to hit a button, it goes to Linux by default. I would like to boot to XP by default, but somehow retain the option of choosing.

  It's great having lots of video on demand options, but actually choosing something to watch is turning into a mess - I have to jump from one website or application to another. I'd like to have a single queue where I can add and prioritize movies and TV I want to watch from any source: iTunes purchases, iTunes rentals, Netflix on demand, Amazon video on demand, Hulu, etc. I'd like the consolidated queue to be accessible from Front Row on my Mac Mini. Does such a thing exist?

However, the article uses shell32.dll and a icon location to do so. I have found an image map detailing the icons location in shell32.dll in Windows XP but was wondering if anyone knew of something similar for Windows 7.

  I just ran a clean install of windows 7 this morning, installed all the latest updates, and I'm now trying to install Office Ultimate 2007 that I purchased last year from the Office Ultimate Steal. It was running fine under windows xp, but when I try to run the installer in windows 7, I get an error message that says: The installation of this package failed I have tried the following: Running the installer as administrator Running the installer under windows xp (SP3) compatability Mode Re downloading the installer (I have it saved to my dropbox account, I can't redownload it from Microsoft) Any help that you can provide would be great!

• PHP at the root directory using Ngnix on Linode and Ubuntu 12.04

  I originally set up my Linode to use it with the Sinatra applications using Phusion Passenger that I was developing and I have it working great for that. However, as time goes on, I find myself needing just a wee bit of PHP to do a server-side thing here or there. My basic set up was based off of this Linode recipe (I copied and pasted the parts that I needed—I did not install Redis and Node). If I go to http://scholarsnyc.com/index.php everything works great. If I just go the base URL however, I get a 403 Forbidden error (I have a vanilla HTML page there for now). I've played with file permissions and the same file will work if I call it directly. I've done my homework and nothing I try seems to work. I'm sure there is an obvious error.   I want to be able to find and replace eat with Eat in Microsoft Word 2007. However, I don’t want to replace every occurrence of eat such as those that can be found inside other words such as great and meat. I have tried doing this using the regular Find and Replace tool, but I get words with capital letters in the middle. Is there a way I can just replace eat with Eat if it only exists on its own?

• Can ZenOSS integrate Ganglia smoothly?

  I like Ganglia for its Gmetric function, and I like its multi-layer capability. But Ganglia does not have healthiness check, alerting and etc. for the server monitor functionality. So it would be great to bring this two species together. Sure, we can install Ganglia, and then install ZenOSS. But is there a plugin or something that can smoothly integrate them together? • Do you know an FOSS alternative to EtherPad or a similar service with > 8 user limit?

(dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations?
