  • Break a class in twain, or impose an interface for restricted access?

    - by bedwyr
    What's the best way of partitioning a class when its functionality needs to be externally accessed in different ways by different classes? Hopefully the following example will make the question clear :) I have a Java class which accesses a single location in a directory allowing external classes to perform read/write operations to it. Read operations return usage stats on the directory (e.g. available disk space, number of writes, etc.); write operations, obviously, allow external classes to write data to the disk. These methods always work on the same location, and receive their configuration (e.g. which directory to use, min disk space, etc.) from an external source (passed to the constructor). This class looks something like this: public class DiskHandler { public DiskHandler(String dir, int minSpace) { ... } public void writeToDisk(String contents, String filename) { int space = getAvailableSpace(); ... } public void getAvailableSpace() { ... } } There's quite a bit more going on, but this will do to suffice. This class needs to be accessed differently by two external classes. One class needs access to the read operations; the other needs access to both read and write operations. public class DiskWriter { DiskHandler diskHandler; public DiskWriter() { diskHandler = new DiskHandler(...); } public void doSomething() { diskHandler.writeToDisk(...); } } public class DiskReader { DiskHandler diskHandler; public DiskReader() { diskHandler = new DiskHandler(...); } public void doSomething() { int space = diskHandler.getAvailableSpace(...); } } At this point, both classes share the same class, but the class which should only read has access to the write methods. Solution 1 I could break this class into two. One class would handle read operations, and the other would handle writes: // NEW "UTILITY" CLASSES public class WriterUtil { private ReaderUtil diskReader; public WriterUtil(String dir, int minSpace) { ... diskReader = new ReaderUtil(dir, minSpace); } public void writeToDisk(String contents, String filename) { int = diskReader.getAvailableSpace(); ... } } public class ReaderUtil { public ReaderUtil(String dir, int minSpace) { ... } public void getAvailableSpace() { ... } } // MODIFIED EXTERNALLY-ACCESSING CLASSES public class DiskWriter { WriterUtil diskWriter; public DiskWriter() { diskWriter = new WriterUtil(...); } public void doSomething() { diskWriter.writeToDisk(...); } } public class DiskReader { ReaderUtil diskReader; public DiskReader() { diskReader = new ReaderUtil(...); } public void doSomething() { int space = diskReader.getAvailableSpace(...); } } This solution prevents classes from having access to methods they should not, but it also breaks encapsulation. The original DiskHandler class was completely self-contained and only needed config parameters via a single constructor. By breaking apart the functionality into read/write classes, they both are concerned with the directory and both need to be instantiated with their respective values. In essence, I don't really care to duplicate the concerns. Solution 2 I could implement an interface which only provisions read operations, and use this when a class only needs access to those methods. The interface might look something like this: public interface Readable { int getAvailableSpace(); } The Reader class would instantiate the object like this: Readable diskReader; public DiskReader() { diskReader = new DiskHandler(...); } This solution seems brittle, and prone to confusion in the future. It doesn't guarantee developers will use the correct interface in the future. Any changes to the implementation of the DiskHandler could also need to update the interface as well as the accessing classes. I like it better than the previous solution, but not by much. Frankly, neither of these solutions seems perfect, but I'm not sure if one should be preferred over the other. I really don't want to break the original class up, but I also don't know if the interface buys me much in the long run. Are there other solutions I'm missing?

  • Make c# matrix code faster

    - by Wam
    Hi all, Working on some matrix code, I'm concerned of performance issues. here's how it works : I've a IMatrix abstract class (with all matrices operations etc), implemented by a ColumnMatrix class. abstract class IMatrix { public int Rows {get;set;} public int Columns {get;set;} public abstract float At(int row, int column); } class ColumnMatrix : IMatrix { private data[]; public override float At(int row, int column) { return data[row + columns * this.Rows]; } } This class is used a lot across my application, but I'm concerned with performance issues. Testing only read for a 2000000x15 matrix against a jagged array of the same size, I get 1359ms for array access agains 9234ms for matrix access : public void TestAccess() { int iterations = 10; int rows = 2000000; int columns = 15; ColumnMatrix matrix = new ColumnMatrix(rows, columns); for (int i = 0; i < rows; i++) for (int j = 0; j < columns; j++) matrix[i, j] = i + j; float[][] equivalentArray = matrix.ToRowsArray(); TimeSpan totalMatrix = new TimeSpan(0); TimeSpan totalArray = new TimeSpan(0); float total = 0f; for (int iteration = 0; iteration < iterations; iteration++) { total = 0f; DateTime start = DateTime.Now; for (int i = 0; i < rows; i++) for (int j = 0; j < columns; j++) total = matrix.At(i, j); totalMatrix += (DateTime.Now - start); total += 1f; //Ensure total is read at least once. total = total > 0 ? 0f : 0f; start = DateTime.Now; for (int i = 0; i < rows; i++) for (int j = 0; j < columns; j++) total = equivalentArray[i][j]; totalArray += (DateTime.Now - start); } if (total < 0f) logger.Info("Nothing here, just make sure we read total at least once."); logger.InfoFormat("Average time for a {0}x{1} access, matrix : {2}ms", rows, columns, totalMatrix.TotalMilliseconds); logger.InfoFormat("Average time for a {0}x{1} access, array : {2}ms", rows, columns, totalArray.TotalMilliseconds); Assert.IsTrue(true); } So my question : how can I make this thing faster ? Is there any way I can make my ColumnMatrix.At faster ? Cheers !

  • Blackberry XML Parsing Application not working

    - by Nirmal
    Hello All... I found one sample application from the Blackberry knowledgebase. From that application I have put that sample application on my eclipse plugin, and the code is as follows : import javax.microedition.io.*; import net.rim.device.api.ui.*; import net.rim.device.api.ui.component.*; import net.rim.device.api.ui.container.*; import net.rim.device.api.system.*; import net.rim.device.api.xml.parsers.*; import org.w3c.dom.*; import org.xml.sax.*; class XML_Parsing_Sample extends UiApplication { // creating a member variable for the MainScreen MainScreen _screen = new MainScreen(); // string variables to store the values of the XML document String _node, _element; Connection _connectionthread; public static void main(String arg[]) { XML_Parsing_Sample application = new XML_Parsing_Sample(); // create a new instance of the application // and start the application on the event thread application.enterEventDispatcher(); } public XML_Parsing_Sample() { _screen.setTitle("XML Parsing");// setting title _screen.add(new RichTextField("Requesting.....")); _screen.add(new SeparatorField()); pushScreen(_screen); // creating a screen // creating a connection thread to run in the background _connectionthread = new Connection(); _connectionthread.start();// starting the thread operation } public void updateField(String node, String element) { // receiving the parsed node and its value from the thread // and updating it here // so it can be displayed on the screen String title = "My App"; _screen.add(new RichTextField(node + " : " + element)); if (node.equals(title)) { _screen.add(new SeparatorField()); } } private class Connection extends Thread { public Connection() { super(); } public void run() { // define variables later used for parsing Document doc; StreamConnection conn; try { // providing the location of the XML file, // your address might be different conn = (StreamConnection) Connector .open("http://www.sufalamtech.com/demo/moviewebservice/Test.xml"); // next few lines creates variables to open a // stream, parse it, collect XML data and // extract the data which is required. // In this case they are elements, // node and the values of an element DocumentBuilderFactory docBuilderFactory = DocumentBuilderFactory .newInstance(); DocumentBuilder docBuilder = docBuilderFactory .newDocumentBuilder(); docBuilder.isValidating(); doc = docBuilder.parse(conn.openInputStream()); doc.getDocumentElement().normalize(); NodeList list = doc.getElementsByTagName("*"); _node = new String(); _element = new String(); // this "for" loop is used to parse through the // XML document and extract all elements and their // value, so they can be displayed on the device for (int i = 0; i < list.getLength(); i++) { Node value = list.item(i).getChildNodes().item(0); _node = list.item(i).getNodeName(); _element = value.getNodeValue(); updateField(_node, _element); }// end for }// end try // will catch any exception thrown by the XML parser catch (Exception e) { Dialog.alert("exception = " + e); } }// end connection function }// end connection class }// end XML_Parsing_Sample But when I am running this application, the simulator just showing me a Blank screen with label Requesting... Anybody help me out for this ? Thanks in advance...

  • Constructor ambiguous quesiton

    - by Crystal
    I'm trying to create a simple date class, but I get an error on my main file that says, "call of overloaded Date() is ambiguous." I'm not sure why since I thought as long as I had different parameters for my constructor, I was ok. Here is my code: header file: #ifndef DATE_H #define DATE_H using std::string; class Date { public: static const int monthsPerYear = 12; // num of months in a yr Date(int = 1, int = 1, int = 1900); // default constructor Date(); // uses system time to create object void print() const; // print date in month/day/year format ~Date(); // provided to confirm destruction order string getMonth(int month) const; // gets month in text format private: int month; // 1 - 12 int day; // 1 - 31 int year; // any year int checkDay(int) const; }; #endif .cpp file #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> #include <string> #include <ctime> #include "Date.h" using namespace std; Date::Date() { time_t seconds = time(NULL); struct tm* t = localtime(&seconds); month = t->tm_mon; day = t->tm_mday; year = t->tm_year; } Date::Date(int mn, int dy, int yr) { if (mn > 0 && mn <= monthsPerYear) month = mn; else { month = 1; // invalid month set to 1 cout << "Invalid month (" << mn << ") set to 1.\n"; } year = yr; // could validate yr day = checkDay(dy); // validate the day // output Date object to show when its constructor is called cout << "Date object constructor for date "; print(); cout << endl; } void Date::print() const { string str; cout << month << '/' << day << '/' << year << '\n'; // new code for HW2 cout << setfill('0') << setw(3) << day; // prints in ddd cout << " " << year << '\n'; // yyyy format str = getMonth(month); // prints in month (full word), day, year cout << str << " " << day << ", " << year << '\n'; } and my main.cpp #include <iostream> #include "Date.h" using std::cout; int main() { Date date1(4, 30, 1980); date1.print(); cout << '\n'; Date date2; date2.print(); }

  • Improve heavy work in a loop in multithreading

  • Cutting large XML file into smaller pieces in C#

    - by NDraskovic
    I have a problem that I'm working on for quite some time now. I have an XML file with over 50000 records (one record has 3 levels). This file is used by one of my applications to control document sending (the record holds, among other informations, the type of document that has to be sent to a certain person). So in my application I load the XML file into a XmlDocument, and then by using SelectNodes method, I create a XmlNodeList from which I read the data I want. The process is like this - our worker takes the persons ID card (simple eith barcode) and reads it with barcode reader. When the barcode value has been read, my application finds the person with that ID in the XML file, and stores the type of the document into a string variable. Then the worker takes the document and reads its barcode, and if the value of documents barcode and the value in the value in the string variable match, the application makes a record that document of type xxxxxxxx will be sent to the person with ID yyyyyyyyy. This is very simple code, it works perfectly for now, and this is how it looks: On textBox1_TextChanged event (worker read persons ID): foreach(XmlNode node in NodeList){ if(String.Compare(node.Attributes.GetNamedItem("ID").Value.ToString(),textBox1.Text)==0) { ControlString = node.ChildNode[3].FirstChild.Attributes.GetNamedItem("doctype").Value.ToString(); break; } } textBox2.Focus(); And on textBox2_TextChanged event (worker read the documents barcode): if(String.Compare(textBox2.Text,ControlString)==0) { //Create a record and insert it into a SQL database } My question is - how will my application perform with larger XML files (I was told that the XML file might be up to 500,000 records large), will this approach be valid, or will I need to cut the file into smaller files. If I have to cut it, please give me an idea with some code samples, I've tried to do it like this: Reading entire record and storing it into a string: private void WriteXml(XmlNode record) { tempXML = record.InnerXml; temp = "<" + record.Name + " code=\"" + record.Attributes.GetNamedItem("code").Value + "\">" + Environment.NewLine; temp += tempXML + Environment.NewLine; temp += "</" + record.Name + ">"; SmallerXMLDocument += temp + Environment.NewLine; temp = ""; i++; } tempXML, temp and SmallerXMLDocument are all string variables. And then in button_Click method I load the XML file into a XmlNodeList (again by using XmlDocument.SelectNodes method) and I try to create one big string value that would hold all records like this: foreach(XmlNode node in nodes) { if(String.Compare(node.ChildNode[3].FirstChild.Attributes.GetNamedItem("doctype").Value.ToString(),doctype1)==0) { WriteXML(node); } } My idea was to create a string value (in this case called SmallerXmlDocument), and when I pass trough the entire XML file, to simply copy the value of that string into a new file. This works, but only for files that have up to 2000 records (and my has way more than that). So, if I need to cut the file into smaller pieces, what would be the best way to do it (keep in mind that there could be up to half a million records in a XML file)? Thanks

  • Overloading '-' for array subtraction

    - by Chris Wilson
    I am attempting to subtract two int arrays, stored as class members, using an overloaded - operator, but I'm getting some peculiar output when I run tests. The overload definition is Number& Number :: operator-(const Number& NumberObject) { for (int count = 0; count < NumberSize; count ++) { Value[count] -= NumberObject.Value[count]; } return *this; } Whenever I run tests on this, NumberObject.Value[count] always seems to be returning a zero value. Can anyone see where I'm going wrong with this? The line in main() where this subtraction is being carried out is cout << "The difference is: " << ArrayOfNumbers[0] - ArrayOfNumbers[1] << endl; ArrayOfNumbers contains two Number objects. The class declaration is #include <iostream> using namespace std; class Number { private: int Value[50]; int NumberSize; public: Number(); // Default constructor Number(const Number&); // Copy constructor Number(int, int); // Non-default constructor void SetMemberValues(int, int); // Manually set member values int GetNumberSize() const; // Return NumberSize member int GetValue() const; // Return Value[] member Number& operator-=(const Number&); }; inline Number operator-(Number Lhs, const Number& Rhs); ostream& operator<<(ostream&, const Number&); The full class definition is as follows: #include <iostream> #include "../headers/number.h" using namespace std; // Default constructor Number :: Number() {} // Copy constructor Number :: Number(const Number& NumberObject) { int Temp[NumberSize]; NumberSize = NumberObject.GetNumberSize(); for (int count = 0; count < NumberObject.GetNumberSize(); count ++) { Temp[count] = Value[count] - NumberObject.GetValue(); } } // Manually set member values void Number :: SetMemberValues(int NewNumberValue, int NewNumberSize) { NumberSize = NewNumberSize; for (int count = NewNumberSize - 1; count >= 0; count --) { Value[count] = NewNumberValue % 10; NewNumberValue = NewNumberValue / 10; } } // Non-default constructor Number :: Number(int NumberValue, int NewNumberSize) { NumberSize = NewNumberSize; for (int count = NewNumberSize - 1; count >= 0; count --) { Value[count] = NumberValue % 10; NumberValue = NumberValue / 10; } } // Return the NumberSize member int Number :: GetNumberSize() const { return NumberSize; } // Return the Value[] member int Number :: GetValue() const { int ResultSoFar; for (int count2 = 0; count2 < NumberSize; count2 ++) { ResultSoFar = ResultSoFar * 10 + Value[count2]; } return ResultSoFar; } Number& operator-=(const Number& Rhs) { for (int count = 0; count < NumberSize; count ++) { Value[count] -= Rhs.Value[count]; } return *this; } inline Number operator-(Number Lhs, const Number& Rhs) { Lhs -= Rhs; return Lhs; } // Overloaded output operator ostream& operator<<(ostream& OutputStream, const Number& NumberObject) { OutputStream << NumberObject.GetValue(); return OutputStream; }

  • Overloading stream insertion without violating information hiding?

    - by Chris
    I'm using yaml-cpp for a project. I want to overload the << and >> operators for some classes, but I'm having an issue grappling with how to "properly" do this. Take the Note class, for example. It's fairly boring: class Note { public: // constructors Note( void ); ~Note( void ); // public accessor methods void number( const unsigned long& number ) { _number = number; } unsigned long number( void ) const { return _number; } void author( const unsigned long& author ) { _author = author; } unsigned long author( void ) const { return _author; } void subject( const std::string& subject ) { _subject = subject; } std::string subject( void ) const { return _subject; } void body( const std::string& body ) { _body = body; } std::string body( void ) const { return _body; } private: unsigned long _number; unsigned long _author; std::string _subject; std::string _body; }; The << operator is easy sauce. In the .h: YAML::Emitter& operator << ( YAML::Emitter& out, const Note& v ); And in the .cpp: YAML::Emitter& operator << ( YAML::Emitter& out, const Note& v ) { out << v.number() << v.author() << v.subject() << v.body(); return out; } No sweat. Then I go to declare the >> operator. In the .h: void operator >> ( const YAML::Node& node, Note& note ); But in the .cpp I get: void operator >> ( const YAML::Node& node, Note& note ) { node[0] >> ? node[1] >> ? node[2] >> ? node[3] >> ? return; } If I write things like node[0] >> v._number; then I would need to change the CV-qualifier to make all of the Note fields public (which defeats everything I was taught (by professors, books, and experience))) about data hiding. I feel like doing node[0] >> temp0; v.number( temp0 ); all over the place is not only tedious, error-prone, and ugly, but rather wasteful (what with the extra copies). Then I got wise: I attempted to move these two operators into the Note class itself, and declare them as friends, but the compiler (GCC 4.4) didn't like that: src/note.h:44: error: ‘YAML::Emitter& Note::operator<<(YAML::Emitter&, const Note&)’ must take exactly one argument src/note.h:45: error: ‘void Note::operator(const YAML::Node&, Note&)’ must take exactly one argument Question: How do I "properly" overload the >> operator for a class Without violating the information hiding principle? Without excessive copying?

  • Why is CDATA needed and not working everywhere the same way?

    - by baptx
    In Firefox's and Chrome's consoles, this works (alerts script content): var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = ( function test() { var a = 1; } ); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); Using this code as a Greasemonkey script for Firefox works too. Now, if want to add a "private method" do() to test() It is not working anymore, in neither Firefox/Chrome console nor in a Greasemonkey script: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = ( function test() { var a = 1; var do = function () { var b = 2; }; } ); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); To make this work in a Greasemonkey script, I have to put all the code in a CDATA tag block: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = (<![CDATA[ function test() { var a = 1; var do = function() { var b = 2; }; } ]]>); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); This is only works in a Greasemonkey script; it throws an error from the Firefox/Chrome console. I don't understand why I should use a CDATA tag, I have no XML rules to respect here because I'm not using XHTML. To make it work in Firefox console (or Firebug), I need to do put CDATA into tags like <> and </>: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = (<><![CDATA[ function test() { var a = 1; var do = function() { var b = 2; }; } ]]></>); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); alert(document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].lastChild.textContent); This doesn't working from the Chrome console. I've tried adding .toString() at the end like many people are doing (]]></>).toString();), but it's useless. I tried to replace <> and </> with a tag name <foo> </foo> but that didn't work either. Why doesn't my first code snippet work if I define var do = function(){} inside another function? Why should I use CDATA as a workaround even if I'm not using XHTML? And why should I add <> </> for Firefox console if it's working without in a Greasemonkey script? Finally, what is the solution for Chrome and other browsers? EDIT: My bad, I've never used do-while in JS and I've created this example in a simple text editor, so I didn't see "do" was a reserved keyword :p But problem is still here, I've not initialized the Javascript class in my examples. With this new example, CDATA is needed for Greasemonkey, Firefox need CDATA between E4X <> </> and Chrome fails: var script = document.createElement("script"); script.textContent = ( <><![CDATA[var aClass = new aClass(); function aClass() { var a = 1; var aPrivateMethod = function() { var b = 2; alert(b); }; this.aPublicMethod = function() { var c = 3; alert(c); }; } aClass.aPublicMethod();]]></> ); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(script); Question: why?

  • Trouble with setting entry point for GWT service

    - by Xorty
    Hello. I've followed serveral tutorials and read official docs at code.google.com, but still didn't manage to resolve this thing. I am creating simple service that'll check if user can be logged. CLIENT SIDE: public interface LoginService extends RemoteService { /** * Checks, if user has valid login. * @param user User's login. * @return True if such a login is in the database. */ boolean isValidUser(User user); } And here is Async interface: public interface LoginServiceAsync { /** * Checks, if user has valid login. * @param user User's login. * @param callback the callback to return True if such a login is in the database. */ void isValidUser(User user, AsyncCallback<Boolean> callback); } SERVER SIDE: public class LoginServiceImpl extends RemoteServiceServlet implements LoginService { /** * serial version UID */ private static final long serialVersionUID = 1044980345057997696L; /**{@inheritDoc} */ @Override public boolean isValidUser(User user) { boolean success = true; //TODO change } } Now I have entry point class MailClient.java. I append here widget like: CustomWidgets.getLoginWidget(this); // access rootPanel and append widget Now I need to make actual call to my service, and here is problem: LoginServiceAsync loginService = (LoginServiceAsync) GWT.create(LoginService.class); User user = new User(boxName.getText(), boxPassword.getText()); AsyncCallback<Boolean> callback = new AsyncCallback<Boolean>() { @Override public void onFailure(Throwable caught) { Window.alert(caught.getMessage()); //TODO change } @Override public void onSuccess(Boolean result) { Window.alert("success"); //TODO change } }; ((ServiceDefTarget) loginService).setServiceEntryPoint(GWT.getModuleBaseURL()+"login"); // dunno what should be here So to recap, I don't know how to set service's entry point. • How can a wix custom action dll call be made to use the debug runtime via a merge module?

    - by Benj
    I'm trying to create a debug build with a corresponding debug installer for our product. I'm new to Wix so please forgive any naivety contained herein. The debug Dlls in my project are dependent on both the VS2008 and the VS2008SP1 debug runtimes. I've created a merge module feature in wix to bundle those runtimes with my installer. <Include xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/wi"> <!-- Include our 'variables' file --> <!--<?include variables.wxi ?>--> <!--<Fragment>--> <DirectoryRef Id="TARGETDIR"> <!-- Always install the 32 bit ATL/CRT libraries, but only install the 64 bit ones on a 64 bit build --> <Merge Id="AtlFiles_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="AtlPolicy_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="CrtFiles_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_DebugCRT_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="CrtPolicy_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_DebugCRT_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="MfcFiles_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_DebugMFC_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="MfcPolicy_x86" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_DebugMFC_x86.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <!-- If this is a 64 bit build, install the relevant modules --> <?if $(env.Platform) = "x64" ?> <Merge Id="AtlFiles_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="AtlPolicy_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_ATL_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="CrtFiles_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_DebugCRT_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="CrtPolicy_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_DebugCRT_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="MfcFiles_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_DebugMFC_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <Merge Id="MfcPolicy_x64" SourceFile="$(env.CommonProgramFiles)\Merge Modules\policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_DebugMFC_x86_x64.msm" DiskId="1" Language="1033"/> <?endif?> </DirectoryRef> <Feature Id="MS2008_SP1_DbgRuntime" Title="VC2008 Debug Runtimes" AllowAdvertise="no" Display="hidden" Level="1"> <!-- 32 bit libraries --> <MergeRef Id="AtlFiles_x86"/> <MergeRef Id="AtlPolicy_x86"/> <MergeRef Id="CrtFiles_x86"/> <MergeRef Id="CrtPolicy_x86"/> <MergeRef Id="MfcFiles_x86"/> <MergeRef Id="MfcPolicy_x86"/> <!-- 64 bit libraries --> <?if $(env.Platform) = "x64" ?> <MergeRef Id="AtlFiles_x64"/> <MergeRef Id="AtlPolicy_x64"/> <MergeRef Id="CrtFiles_x64"/> <MergeRef Id="CrtPolicy_x64"/> <MergeRef Id="MfcFiles_x64"/> <MergeRef Id="MfcPolicy_x64"/> <?endif?> </Feature> <!--</Fragment>--> </Include> If I'm doing a debug build of the installer, I include that feature like so: <!-- The 'Feature' that contains the debug CRT/ATL libraries --> <?if $(var.Configuration) = "Debug"?> <?include ..\includes\MS2008_SP1_DbgRuntime.wxi?> <?endif?> The only problem is that my installer also includes a custom action which is also dependent on the debug runtime: <!-- Private key installer --> <Binary Id="InstallPrivateKey" SourceFile="..\InstallPrivateKey\win32\$(var.Configuration)\InstallPrivateKey.dll"></Binary> <CustomAction Id='InstallKey' BinaryKey='InstallPrivateKey' DllEntry='InstallPrivateKey'/> So how can I package the debug run time in such a way that the custom action also has access to it?

  • AIDL based two way communication

    - by sshasan
    I have two apps between which I want some data exchanged. As they are running in different processes, so, I am using AIDL to communicate between them. Now, everything is happening really great in one direction (say my apps are A and B) i.e. data is being sent from A to B but, now I need to send some data from B to A. I noticed that we need to include the app with the AIDL in the build path of app where the AIDL method will be called. So in my case A includes B in its build path. For B to be able to send something to A, by that logic, B would need A in its build path. This would create a cycle. I am stuck at this point. And I cannot think of a work around this loop. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) . Thanks! ----EDIT---- So, I following the advice mentioned in one of the comments below, I have the following code In the IPCAIDL project the AIDL file resides, its contents are package ipc.android.aidl; interface Iaidl{ boolean pushBoolean(boolean flag); } This project is being used as a library in both the IPCServer and the IPC Client. The IPCServer Project has the service which defines what happens with the AIDL method. The file is booleanService.java package ipc.android.server; import ipc.android.aidl.Iaidl; import android.app.Service; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.IBinder; import android.os.RemoteException; import android.util.Log; public class booleanService extends Service { @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) { return new Iaidl.Stub() { @Override public boolean pushBoolean(boolean arg0) throws RemoteException { Log.i("SERVER(IPC AIDL)", "Truth Value:"+arg0); return arg0; } }; } } The IPCClient file which calls this method is package ipc.android.client2; import ipc.android.aidl.Iaidl; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.ComponentName; import android.content.Context; import android.content.Intent; import android.content.ServiceConnection; import android.os.Bundle; import android.os.IBinder; import android.os.RemoteException; import android.view.View; import android.widget.Button; public class IPCClient2Activity extends Activity { Button b1; Iaidl iAIDL; boolean k = false; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); bindService(new Intent("ipc.android.server.booleanService"), conn, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE); startService(new Intent("ipc.android.server.booleanService")); b1 = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button1); b1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { if(k){ k = false; } else{ k = true; } try { iAIDL.pushBoolean(k); } catch (RemoteException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } } }); } private ServiceConnection conn = new ServiceConnection() { @Override public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName name) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName name, IBinder service) { iAIDL = Iaidl.Stub.asInterface(service); } }; } The manifest file for IPCServer includes the declaration of the service.

  • Using LINQ to create a simple login

    - by JDWebs
    I'm an C# ASP.NET beginner, so please excuse anything that's... not quite right! In short, I want to create a really basic login system: one which runs through a database and uses sessions so that only logged in users can access certain pages. I know how to do most of that, but I'm stuck with querying data with LINQ on the login page. On the login page, I have a DropDownList to select a username, a Textbox to type in a password and a button to login (I also have a literal for errors). The DropDownList is databound to a datatable called DT_Test. DT_Test contains three columns: UsernameID (int), Username (nchar(30)) and Password (nchar(30)). UsernameID is the primary key. I want to make the button's click event query data from the database with the DropDownList and Textbox, in order to check if the username and password match. But I don't know how to do this... Current Code (not a lot!): Front End: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Login_Test.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login_Login_Test" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title>Login Test</title> </head> <body> <form id="LoginTest" runat="server"> <div> <asp:DropDownList ID="DDL_Username" runat="server" Height="20px" DataTextField="txt"> </asp:DropDownList> <br /> <asp:TextBox ID="TB_Password" runat="server" TextMode="Password"></asp:TextBox> <br /> <asp:Button ID="B_Login" runat="server" onclick="B_Login_Click" Text="Login" /> <br /> <asp:Literal ID="LI_Result" runat="server"></asp:Literal> </div> </form> </body> </html> Back End: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; public partial class Login_Login_Test : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!Page.IsPostBack) { Binder(); } } private void Binder() { using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { DDL_Username.DataSource = from x in db.DT_Honeys select new { x.UsernameID, txt = x.Username }; DDL_Username.DataBind(); } } protected void B_Login_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (TB_Password.Text != "") { using (DataClassesDataContext db = new DataClassesDataContext()) { } } } } I have spent hours searching and trying different code, but none of it seems to fit in for this context. Anyway, help and tips appreciated, thank you very much! I am aware of security risks etc. but this is not a live website or anything, it is simply for testing purposes as a beginner. *

  • Lock free multiple readers single writer

    - by dummzeuch
    I have got an in memory data structure that is read by multiple threads and written by only one thread. Currently I am using a critical section to make this access threadsafe. Unfortunately this has the effect of blocking readers even though only another reader is accessing it. There are two options to remedy this: use TMultiReadExclusiveWriteSynchronizer do away with any blocking by using a lock free approach For 2. I have got the following so far (any code that doesn't matter has been left out): type TDataManager = class private FAccessCount: integer; FData: TDataClass; public procedure Read(out _Some: integer; out _Data: double); procedure Write(_Some: integer; _Data: double); end; procedure TDataManager.Read(out _Some: integer; out _Data: double); var Data: TDAtaClass; begin InterlockedIncrement(FAccessCount); try // make sure we get both values from the same TDataClass instance Data := FData; // read the actual data _Some := Data.Some; _Data := Data.Data; finally InterlockedDecrement(FAccessCount); end; end; procedure TDataManager.Write(_Some: integer; _Data: double); var NewData: TDataClass; OldData: TDataClass; ReaderCount: integer; begin NewData := TDataClass.Create(_Some, _Data); InterlockedIncrement(FAccessCount); OldData := TDataClass(InterlockedExchange(integer(FData), integer(NewData)); // now FData points to the new instance but there might still be // readers that got the old one before we exchanged it. ReaderCount := InterlockedDecrement(FAccessCount); if ReaderCount = 0 then // no active readers, so we can safely free the old instance FreeAndNil(OldData) else begin /// here is the problem end; end; Unfortunately there is the small problem of getting rid of the OldData instance after it has been replaced. If no other thread is currently within the Read method (ReaderCount=0), it can safely be disposed and that's it. But what can I do if that's not the case? I could just store it until the next call and dispose it there, but Windows scheduling could in theory let a reader thread sleep while it is within the Read method and still has got a reference to OldData. If you see any other problem with the above code, please tell me about it. This is to be run on computers with multiple cores and the above methods are to be called very frequently. In case this matters: I am using Delphi 2007 with the builtin memory manager. I am aware that the memory manager probably enforces some lock anyway when creating a new class but I want to ignore that for the moment. Edit: It may not have been clear from the above: For the full lifetime of the TDataManager object there is only one thread that writes to the data, not several that might compete for write access. So this is a special case of MREW.

  • MediaElement not showing in custom 3D class

    - by user3271180
    I'm trying to display a videostream in a Viewport3d. When I add the MediaElement via xaml, the video plays without a problem; even when I add the video as ModelVisual3D in the code-behind, the video works. When I abstract the video into a class, however, the video stops appearing. This happens with both web and local video files. I tried compiling with both x86 and 64 bit. Any way to fix this behaviour? Why is this happening? I have the following viewport: <Viewport3D> <!-- Camera --> <Viewport3D.Camera> <PerspectiveCamera Position="0,0,100" LookDirection="0,0,-1" UpDirection="0,1,0" /> </Viewport3D.Camera> <!-- Light --> <ModelVisual3D> <ModelVisual3D.Content> <AmbientLight Color="White" /> </ModelVisual3D.Content> </ModelVisual3D> <!-- this doesn't work --> <mediaElementTest:VideoControl /> <!-- but this does? --> <!--<ModelVisual3D> <ModelVisual3D.Content> <GeometryModel3D> <GeometryModel3D.Geometry> <MeshGeometry3D Positions="-100,-100,0 100,-100,0 100,100,0 -100,100,0" TextureCoordinates="0,1 1,1 1,0 0,0" TriangleIndices="0 1 2 0 2 3" /> </GeometryModel3D.Geometry> <GeometryModel3D.Material> <DiffuseMaterial> <DiffuseMaterial.Brush> <VisualBrush> <VisualBrush.Visual> <MediaElement Source="http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/videos/big_buck_bunny.mp4" /> </VisualBrush.Visual> </VisualBrush> </DiffuseMaterial.Brush> </DiffuseMaterial> </GeometryModel3D.Material> </GeometryModel3D> </ModelVisual3D.Content> </ModelVisual3D>--> </Viewport3D> VideoControl.xaml <UIElement3D x:Class="MediaElementTest.VideoControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"/> VideoControl.xaml.cs public partial class VideoControl { public VideoControl() { InitializeComponent(); Visual3DModel = CreateModel(); } private GeometryModel3D CreateModel() { return new GeometryModel3D { Geometry = new MeshGeometry3D { Positions = new Point3DCollection { new Point3D(-100, -100, 0), new Point3D(100, -100, 0), new Point3D(100, 100, 0), new Point3D(-100, 100, 0) }, TextureCoordinates = new PointCollection { new Point(0, 1), new Point(1, 1), new Point(1, 0), new Point(0, 0) }, TriangleIndices = new Int32Collection { 0, 1, 2, 0, 2, 3 } }, Material = new DiffuseMaterial(new VisualBrush(new MediaElement { Source = new Uri("http://www.quirksmode.org/html5/videos/big_buck_bunny.mp4", UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute) })) }; } }

  • Android: Having trouble creating a subclass of application to share data with multiple Activities

    - by Mike
    Hello, I just finished a couple of activities in my game and now I was going to start to wire them both up to use real game data, instead of the test data I was using just to make sure each piece worked. Since multiple Activities will need access to this game data, I started researching the best way to pass this data to my Activities. I know about using putExtra with intents, but my GameData class has quite a bit of data and not just simple key value pairs. Besides quite a few basic data types, it also has large arrays. I didn't really want to try and pass all that, unless I can pass the entire object, instead of just key/data pairs. I read the following post and thought it would be the way to go, but so far, I haven't got it to work. Android: How to declare global variables? I created a simple test app to try this method out, but it keeps crashing and my code seems to look the same as in the post above - except I changed the names. Here is the error I am getting. Can someone help me understand what I am doing wrong? 12-23 00:50:49.762: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(608): Caused by: java.lang.ClassCastException: android.app.Application It crashes on the following statement: GameData newGameData = ((GameData)getApplicationContext()); Here is my code: package mrk.examples.StaticGameData; import android.app.Application; public class GameData extends Application { private int intTest; GameData () { intTest = 0; } public int getIntTest(){ return intTest; } public void setIntTest(int value){ intTest = value; } } // My main activity package mrk.examples.StaticGameData; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; public class StaticGameData extends Activity { int intStaticTest; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); GameData newGameData = ((GameData)getApplicationContext()); newGameData.setIntTest(0); intStaticTest = newGameData.getIntTest(); Log.d("StaticGameData", "Well: IntStaticTest = " + intStaticTest); newGameData.setIntTest(1); Log.d("StaticGameData", "Well: IntStaticTest = " + intStaticTest + " newGameData: " + newGameData.getIntTest()); Intent intentNew = new Intent(this, PassData2Activity.class); startActivity (intentNew); } } // My test Activity to see if it can access the data and its previous state from the last activity package mrk.examples.StaticGameData; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; public class PassData2Activity extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); GameData gamedataPass = ((GameData)getApplicationContext()); Log.d("PassData2Activity", "IntTest = " + gamedataPass.getIntTest()); } } Below is the relevant portion of my manifest: <application android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:name=".StaticGameData" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> <activity android:name=".PassData2Activity"></activity> </application> <application android:name=".GameData" android:icon="@drawable/icon" android:label="@string/app_name"> </application> Thanks in advance for helping me understand why this code is crashing. • Getting a seg fault, having trouble with classes and variables.

    - by celestialorb
    Ok, so I'm still learning the ropes of C++ here so I apologize if this is a simple mistake. I have this class: class RunFrame : public wxFrame { public: RunFrame(); void OnKey(wxKeyEvent& keyEvent); private: // Configuration variables. const wxString *title; const wxPoint *origin; const wxSize *size; const wxColour *background; const wxColour *foreground; const wxString *placeholder; // Control variables. wxTextCtrl *command; // Event table. DECLARE_EVENT_TABLE() }; ...then in the OnKey method I have this code: void RunFrame::OnKey(wxKeyEvent& keyEvent) { // Take the key and process it. if(WXK_RETURN == keyEvent.GetKeyCode()) { bool empty = command -> IsEmpty(); } // Propogate the event through. keyEvent.Skip(); } ...but my program keeps seg faulting when it reaches the line where I attempt to call the IsEmpty method from the command variable. My question is, "Why?" In the constructor of the RunFrame class I can seemingly call methods for the command variable in the same way I'm doing so in the OnKey method...and it compiles correctly, it just seg faults on me when it attempts to execute that line. Here is the code for the constructor if necessary: RunFrame::RunFrame() : wxFrame(NULL, wxID_ANY, wxT("DEFAULT"), wxDefaultPosition, wxDefaultSize, wxBORDER_NONE) { // Create the styling constants. title = new wxString(wxT("RUN")); origin = new wxPoint(0, 0); size = new wxSize(250, 25); background = new wxColour(33, 33, 33); foreground = new wxColour(255, 255, 255); placeholder = new wxString(wxT("command")); // Set the styling for the frame. this -> SetTitle(*title); this -> SetSize(*size); // Create the panel and attach the TextControl to it. wxPanel *panel = new wxPanel(this, wxID_ANY, *origin, *size, wxBORDER_NONE); // Create the text control and attach it to the panel. command = new wxTextCtrl(panel, wxID_ANY, *placeholder, *origin, *size); // Set the styling for the text control. command -> SetBackgroundColour(*background); command -> SetForegroundColour(*foreground); // Connect the key event to the text control. command -> Connect(wxEVT_CHAR, wxKeyEventHandler(RunFrame::OnKey)); // Set the focus to the command box. command -> SetFocus(); } Thanks in advance for any help you can give! The webserver wil handle my request from my android. I fount the following code on www.helloandroid.com But i don't understand. If i run this code on the simulator nothing happens. The screen stays black. Where does Log.i land. In the android screen or in the error log or somewhere else? • Why does sending post data with WebRequest take so long?

    - by Paramiliar
    I am currently creating a C# application to tie into a php / MySQL online system. The application needs to send post data to scripts and get the response. When I send the following data username=test&password=test I get the following responses... Starting request at 22/04/2010 12:15:42 Finished creating request : took 00:00:00.0570057 Transmitting data at 22/04/2010 12:15:42 Transmitted the data : took 00:00:06.9316931 <<-- Getting the response at 22/04/2010 12:15:49 Getting response 00:00:00.0360036 Finished response 00:00:00.0360036 Entire call took 00:00:07.0247024 As you can see it is taking 6 seconds to actually send the data to the script, I have done further testing bye sending data from telnet and by sending post data from a local file to the url and they dont even take a second so this is not a problem with the hosted script on the site. Why is it taking 6 seconds to transmit the data when it is two simple strings? I use a custom class to send the data class httppostdata { WebRequest request; WebResponse response; public string senddata(string url, string postdata) { var start = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Starting request at " + start.ToString()); // create the request to the url passed in the paramaters request = (WebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); // set the method to post request.Method = "POST"; // set the content type and the content length request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.ContentLength = postdata.Length; // convert the post data into a byte array byte[] byteData = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(postdata); var end1 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Finished creating request : took " + (end1 - start)); var start2 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Transmitting data at " + start2.ToString()); // get the request stream and write the data to it Stream dataStream = request.GetRequestStream(); dataStream.Write(byteData, 0, byteData.Length); dataStream.Close(); var end2 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Transmitted the data : took " + (end2 - start2)); // get the response var start3 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Getting the response at " + start3.ToString()); response = request.GetResponse(); //Console.WriteLine(((WebResponse)response).StatusDescription); dataStream = response.GetResponseStream(); StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(dataStream); var end3 = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Getting response " + (end3 - start3)); // read the response string serverresponse = reader.ReadToEnd(); var end3a = DateTime.Now; Console.WriteLine("Finished response " + (end3a - start3)); Console.WriteLine("Entire call took " + (end3a - start)); //Console.WriteLine(serverresponse); reader.Close(); dataStream.Close(); response.Close(); return serverresponse; } } And to call it I use private void btnLogin_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // string postdata; if (txtUsername.Text.Length < 3 || txtPassword.Text.Length < 3) { MessageBox.Show("Missing your username or password."); } else { string postdata = "username=" + txtUsername.Text + "&password=" + txtPassword.Text; httppostdata myPost = new httppostdata(); string response = myPost.senddata("http://www.domainname.com/scriptname.php", postdata); MessageBox.Show(response); } }

  • Tomcat does save logged users during restart

    - by mabuzer
    How to force Tomcat to save logged users, so that the they kept logged in even after Tomcat has restarted? Right now the user has to login again everytime. Added the following lines into web-app context.xml: <Manager className="org.apache.catalina.session.PersistentManager"> <Store className="org.apache.catalina.session.FileStore"/> </Manager> but still I see login page after Tomcat restart, I use Tomcat 6.0.26 Update I managed to solve it like this: 1) Make my own extended version of FormAuthentication class: package com.alz.tomcat; import java.io.IOException; import java.security.Principal; import org.apache.catalina.Session; import org.apache.catalina.deploy.LoginConfig; import org.apache.catalina.connector.Request; import org.apache.catalina.connector.Response; import org.apache.catalina.authenticator.Constants; import org.apache.catalina.authenticator.FormAuthenticator; /** * * @author mabuzer */ public class Authenticator extends FormAuthenticator { @Override public boolean authenticate(Request request, Response response, LoginConfig config) throws IOException { String username = (String) request.getSession().getAttribute("USERNAME"); String password = (String) request.getSession().getAttribute("PASSWORD"); Principal principal = request.getUserPrincipal(); Session session = request.getSessionInternal(true); if (request.getUserPrincipal() == null && !isNull(username) && !isNull(password)) { principal = context.getRealm().authenticate(username, password); if (principal != null) { session.setNote(Constants.FORM_PRINCIPAL_NOTE, principal); if (!matchRequest(request)) { register(request, response, principal, Constants.FORM_METHOD, username, password); return (true); } } return super.authenticate(request, response, config); } else { return super.authenticate(request, response, config); } } private boolean isNull(String str) { if (str == null || "".equals(str)) { return true; } else { return false; } } } 2) Have your own ContextConfig class: package com.alz.tomcat; import java.util.HashMap; import org.apache.catalina.Valve; /** * * @author [email protected] */ public class ContextConfig extends org.apache.catalina.startup.ContextConfig { public ContextConfig() { super(); // we need to append our authenticator setCustomAuthenticators(customAuthenticators); customAuthenticators = new HashMap(); customAuthenticators.put("Authenticator" , new Authenticator()); } } 3) Have a class extends LifeCycleListener to set replace default ContextConfig the one you made: package com.alz.tomcat; import org.apache.catalina.Lifecycle; import org.apache.catalina.LifecycleEvent; import org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHost; /** * * @author [email protected] */ public class LifeCycleListener implements org.apache.catalina.LifecycleListener { public void lifecycleEvent(LifecycleEvent lifeCycleEvent) { if (Lifecycle.BEFORE_START_EVENT.equals(lifeCycleEvent.getType())) { StandardHost aStandardHost = (StandardHost) lifeCycleEvent.getLifecycle(); aStandardHost.setConfigClass("com.alz.tomcat.ContextConfig"); } } } 4) Final step which is to add your LifeCycleListener to server.xml in Host tag like this: <Host appBase="webapps" autoDeploy="true" name="localhost" unpackWARs="true" xmlNamespaceAware="false" xmlValidation="false"> <Listener className="com.alz.tomcat.LifeCycleListener"/> </Host>
