• Mult-line Svg tooltip

  I have created numerous polygon shapes in SVG format. and grouped them together. When the user hovers over the group a tooltip box appear. I have used ecmascript. What i am looking to do is make the tooltip box a multiline box. • [MFC] Creating multiple dialogs in an MFC app with no main Window, they become children of each othe

  (title updated) Following on from this question, now I have a clearer picture what's going on... I have a MFC application with no main window, which exposes an API to create dialogs. When I call some of these methods repeatedly, the dialogs created are parented to each other instead of all being parented to the desktop... I have no idea why. But anyway even after creation, I am unable to change the parent back to NULL or CWnd::GetDesktopWindow()... if I call SetParent followed by GetParent, nothing has changed. So apart from the really weird question of why Windows is magically parenting each dialog to the last one created, is there anything I'm missing to be able to set these windows as children of the desktop? UPDATED: I have found the reason for all this, but not the solution. • Packaging an application that uses the ImageMagick C API

  I've created a little Windows app that uses the ImageMagick C API but have run into a bit of a brick wall. The app works fine and I'm ready to share it with a few others in our organisation but I can't find documentation on distributing such an app without installing ImageMagick on the target machine. Does anyone here have information, or a link to information, that details how to package this up for distribution? What DLLs are required and which one(s) need to registered with Windows? The target users will be on a mix of XP and Win7.

• AIR: sync gui with data-base?

  I am going to be building an AIR application that shows a list (about 1-25 rows of data) from a data-base. The data-base is on the web. I want the list to be as accurate as possible, meaning as soon as the data-base data changes, the list displayed in the app should update asap. I do not know of anyway that the air application could be notified when there is a change, I am thinking I am going to have to poll the data-base at certain intervals to keep an up to date list. So my question is, first is there any way to NOT have to keep checking the data-base? or if I do keep have to keep checking the data-base what is a reasonable interval to do that at? Thanks.

• Fluently setting C# properties and chaining methods

  I'm using .NET 3.5. We have some complex third-party classes which are automatically generated and out of my control, but which we must work with for testing purposes. I see my team doing a lot of deeply-nested property getting/setting in our test code, and it's getting pretty cumbersome. To remedy the problem, I'd like to make a fluent interface for setting properties on the various objects in the hierarchical tree. There are a large number of properties and classes in this third-party library, and it would be too tedious to map everything manually. My initial thought was to just use object initializers. Red, Blue, and Green are properties, and Mix() is a method that sets a fourth property Color to the closest RGB-safe color with that mixed color. Paints must be homogenized with Stir() before they can be used. Bucket b = new Bucket() { Paint = new Paint() { Red = 0.4; Blue = 0.2; Green = 0.1; } }; That works to initialize the Paint, but I need to chain Mix() and other methods to it. Next attempt: Create<Bucket>(Create<Paint>() .SetRed(0.4) .SetBlue(0.2) .SetGreen(0.1) .Mix().Stir() ) But that doesn't scale well, because I'd have to define a method for each property I want to set, and there are hundreds of different properties in all the classes. Also, C# doesn't have a way to dynamically define methods prior to C# 4, so I don't think I can hook into things to do this automatically in some way. Third attempt: Create<Bucket>(Create<Paint>().Set(p => { p.Red = 0.4; p.Blue = 0.2; p.Green = 0.1; }).Mix().Stir() ) That doesn't look too bad, and seems like it'd be feasible. Is this an advisable approach? Is it possible to write a Set method that works this way? Or should I be pursuing an alternate strategy?

It seems every time I try to integrate a non-popular epayment gateway, I exceed my original time-estimation. I think I'm a decent programmer, but my time estimations probably needs work. Do other programmers run into many "surprises" when integrating e-payment gateways they've never heard of? Any advice will help. thanks

• Java String Replace and null characters

  Testing out someone elses code (of course it was ...) , I noticed a few JSP pages printing funky non-ascii characters. Taking a dip into the source I found this tidbit. // remove any periods from first name e.g. Mr. John --> Mr John firstName = firstName.trim().replace('.','\0'); Does replacing a character in a String with a null character even work in Java? I know that '\0' will terminate a c-string. Would this be the culprit to the funky characters? Thanks PR

• I want to query whitepages.com 4,000 times, how to save the results?

  I have an old customer list of 4,000 businesses. I want to determine if the phone numbers associated with each listing are still working (and therefore the business is probably still open). I can put each number in whitepages.com and check them one by one... but want to automate the results. I have looked at their API and can't digest it. I can form the correct query URL, but trying things like cURL -O doesn't work. I have access to Mac tools, Unix tools, and could try various javascript stuff if anyone could point me in the right direction... would even pay. Help? Thx

• Cached ObjectDataSource not firing Select Event even Cache Dependecy Removed

  I have the following scenario. A Page with a DetailsView binded to an ObjectDatasource with cache-enabled. The SelectMethod is assigned at Page_Load event, depending on my User Level Logic. After assigned the selectMethod and Parameters for the ODS, if Cache not exists, then ODS will be cached the first time. The next time, the cache will be applied to the ODS and the select event don't need to be fired since the dataresult is cached. The problem is, the ODS Cache works fine, but I have a Refresh button to clear the cache and rebind the DetailsView. Am I doing correctly ? • Division to the nearest 1 decimal place without floating point math?

  I am having some speed issues with my C# program and identified that this percentage calculation is causing a slow down. The calculation is simply n/d * 100. Both the numerator and denominator can be any integer number. The numerator can never be greater than the denominator and is never negative. Therefore, the result is always from 0-100. Right now, this is done by simply using floating point math and is somewhat slow, since it's being calculated tens of millions of times. I really don't need anything more accurate than to the nearest 0.1 percent. And, I just use this calculated value to see if it's bigger than a fixed constant value. I am thinking that everything should be kept as an integer, so the range with 0.1 accuracy would be 0-1000. Is there some way to calculate this percentage without floating point math?

  I have a UIView with another UIView inside it. On the inside UIView there is a textbox which I want to fill in. When I try to fill it in the keyboard blocks my view: The UIViewController has the following containerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[UIScreen mainScreen].bounds]; self.view=containerView; //The apropriate releases etc are further on... When I touch it, the keyboard comes up as expected, but blocks the textbox I'm trying to fill in. How can I force the view to slide up? • Search Lucene with precise edit distances

  I would like to search a Lucene index with edit distances. For example, say, there is a document with a field FIRST_NAME; I want all documents with first names that are 1 edit distance away from, say, 'john'. I know that Lucene supports fuzzy searches (FIRST_NAME:john~) and takes a number between 0 and 1 to control the fuzziness. The problem (for me) is this number does not directly translate to an edit distance. And when the values in the documents are short strings (less than 3 characters) the fuzzy search has difficulty finding them. For example if there is a document with FIRST_NAME 'J' and I search for FIRST_NAME:I~0.0 I don't get anything back.

  Hello All, I am working with some legacy code, and at some point there is a key in the session that is something like session.setAttribute("com.org.something.Object",someObject); Now trying to access this in a jsp using jstl is a bit difficult becuase if I tried it like I normally would I would do: ${sessionScope.com.org.something.Object.someFieldGetter} As most of us can imagine it will fail because there is no com object in session scope. I also tried ${sessionScope.'com.org.something.Object'.someFieldGetter} And a parsing error was thrown. Does anyone know how to resolve this so that I can correctly get the object similar to session.getAttribute("com.org.something.Object") but through jstl? thank you.

  Here is what sp_helpfile says about my current database (recovery model is Simple) in SQL2000: name fileid filename size maxsize growth usage MasterScratchPad_Data 1 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Data.MDF 6041600 KB Unlimited 5120000 KB data only MasterScratchPad_Log 2 C:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_Log.LDF 2111304 KB Unlimited 10% log only MasterScratchPad_X1_Log 3 E:\SQLDATA\MasterScratchPad_X1_Log.LDF 191944 KB Unlimited 10% log only I'm trying to prepare this for a detach then an attach to a sql2008 instance but I don't want to have the 2nd .LDF file (I'd like to have just one file for the log). I have backed up the database. I have issued: BACKUP LOG MasterScratchPad WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY. I have run multiple DBCC SHRINKFILE commands on both of the LOG files. How can I accomplish this goal of having just one .LDF? I cannot find anything on how to delete the one with fileid of 3 and/or how to consolidate multiple files into one log file.

• Clang LLVM doesn't generate warnings in Xcode

  I want lots of lovely warnings when compiling. I've set my build configuration to be based on a build config file I have. When I switch to GCC 4.0, it generates all the required warnings. As soon as I change to the Clang LLVM compiler, all the warnings disappear. Every other setting is identical. What am I missing?
