  • Is an Object the smallest pageable unit in the Heap?

    Hi, If I have a 2 GB ram and I have an 2 instances of an Object which is 1.5 GB each, the operating system will help and context switch the pages to and from harddisk. What if I have 1 instances but is 3 GB. Can the same paging method breakdown this instances into 2 pages? Or will I encounter out-of-memory issue? Thanks.

  • What is the efficient way to make a permission system?

    Currently im just using something like: in the DB Table: access: home,register,login and then in each page: if(!Functions::has_rights('content')) { Functions::noAccess(); } is there more efficient way to do it, php & MySQL? i may want to gain access even to several parts a page, for example: user can read a page, but doesnt comment to it, and I dont want to build a separate system to each module.   • Symbian: clear buffer of RSocket object

    Hi, I have to come back once again to sockets in Symbian. Code to set up a connection to a remote server looks as follows: TInetAddr serverAddr; TUint iPort=111; TRequestStatus iStatus; TSockXfrLength len; TInt res = iSocketSrv.Connect(); res = iSocket.Open(iSocketSrv,KAfInet,KSockStream, KProtocolInetTcp); res = iSocket.SetOpt(KSoTcpSendWinSize, KSolInetTcp, 0x10000); serverAddr.SetPort(iPort); serverAddr.SetAddress(INET_ADDR(11,11,179,154)); iSocket.Connect(serverAddr,iStatus); User::WaitForRequest(iStatus); Over the iSocket i receive packets of variable size. On very few occurences it happens that such a packet is corrupted. What I would like to do then is to clear all the data that is currently in the iSocket buffer and ready to be read. I have not seen any method of RSocket that allows me to clear the content of the buffer. Does anyone know how to do that? If possible, I would like to avoid using RecvOneOrMore() or similar recv function clear the buffer Thanks

  • PySide Qt4 widget exchange in a hboxlayout

    I'd like to exchange a widget inside a QHBoxLayout. This code seems to work, but as soon as I do the actual app._exec(), the code crashes with terminate called after throwing an instance of 'boost::python::error_already_set'. Is there any way to get the actual error message?   • haml / rails: yield title with german umlauts

    Hi, I would like to do something like this in my application layout: %title= "#{yield(:sub_title)} - Page Name" and in a real view - content_for :sub_title do Übersicht # I tried &Uuml;bersicht, != "&Uuml;bersicht" and a bunch of other methods what happens is, I either get the black pound with the question mark in it - wrong encoding or the raw string (&UumI;bersicht). Does anyone know a way how to get this to work? Another requirement is that I'd like to show user generated content in the title and this content may or may not have umlauts in it. Used versions: Haml 3.0.11, Rails 3 beta4 and currently for development JRuby 1.5

    Hello, I'm using Sharepoint 2010 Object Model. I'm trying to retrive the content of a Custom List. Everything works fine except if when I try to retrieve a Choice Field. When I try to retrieve the choice field, I got an PropertyOrFieldNotInitializedException exception...   • Is AMQP suitable as both an intra and inter-machine software bus?

    I'm trying to get my head around AMQP. It looks great for inter-machine (cluster, LAN, WAN) communication between applications but I'm not sure if it is suitable (in architectural, and current implementation terms) for use as a software bus within one machine. Would it be worth pulling out a current high performance message passing framework to replace it with AMQP, or is this falling into the same trap as RPC by blurring the distinction between local and non-local communication? I'm also wary of the performance impacts of using a WAN technology for intra-machine communications, although this may be more of an implementation concern than architecture. War stories would be appreciated.

  • Best way in Python to determine all possible intersections in a matrix?

    So if I have a matrix (list of lists) of unique words as my column headings, document ids as my row headings, and a 0 or 1 as the values if the word exists in that particular document. What I'd like to know is how to determine all the possible combinations of words and documents where more than one word is in common with more than one document. So something like: [[Docid_3, Docid_5], ['word1', 'word17', 'word23']], [[Docid_3, Docid_9, Docid_334], ['word2', 'word7', 'word23', 'word68', 'word982']], and so on for each possible combination. Would love a solution that provides the complete set of combinations and one that yields only the combinations that are not a subset of another, so from the example, not [[Docid_3, Docid_5], ['word1', 'word17']] since it's a complete subset of the first example. I feel like there is an elegant solution that just isn't coming to mind and the beer isn't helping. Thanks.

  • No LPT port in Windows 7 virtual machines

    Windows 7 has MS virtual PC integrated, the VM settings don't give a parallel LPT port mapping to the physical machine. Where did it go? Has anyone else noticed this, and found a solution? Update: After much digging, I found the one and only reference to this issue, on the VPC Blog: "Parallel port devices are not supported, as they are relatively rare today." -More details- It's a XP VM I've been using since VPC 2007 days, which did have this functionality. This is to configure barcode printers via the LPT port. Since the (new) MS VM can't map to my physical LPT port, I'm having a hard time configuring printers. My physical ports are enabled in the BIOS. It has worked the past 3 years, before switching to Win 7. Any help is appreciated. This screen shot of the VM settings shows COM ports, but LPT is no more In contrast, here is a screen shot of VPC 2007 (before it got integrated into Win 7). Notice how it has LPT support

    Hello awesome people, I want to add a custom field on Add A New Post page. Like - if I am to make a plugin which will post links to Twitter after a new post is made, I would like to give ability to user to select if he wants to tweet that particular post's link to Twitter. I want to display a check box somewhere in the page which says - "Post this on Twitter" and then check for it and make a tweet. I have seen some plugins which do this. But can't remember which they were. Can someone please help me out?

    I'm trying to configure the cygwin to work with TWiki, I have to input this in the Cygwin bash shell: mount -b -s c:/... but it doesn't recognize the "-s", I already fixed the problem with -b, it changed the syntax and now is "mount -o binary" for the "mount -b"part. But now it says unknown option with the "-s" anyone?? help?? or what does the -s mean, so I can look it up :S

  • Why, in Ruby, does Array("foo\nbar") == ["foo\n", "bar"]?

    In Ruby 1.8.7, Array("hello\nhello") gives you ["hello\n", "hello"]. This does two things that I don't expect: It splits the string on newlines. I'd expect it simply to give me an array with the string I pass in as its single element without modifying the data I pass in. Even if you accept that it's reasonable to split a string when passing it to Array, why does it retain the newline character when "foo\nbar".split does not? Additionally: >> Array.[] "foo\nbar" => ["foo\nbar"] >> Array.[] *"foo\nbar" => ["foo\n", "bar"]

  • How long will the serial port be around for?

    It seems that the serial port has a remarkable ability to stick around. You might call it the hardware equivalent of Windows XP. Despite pretty much physically disappearing from laptops and the like, the need to use a serial port still exists, even if it means using a converter of some sort. It is very much a legacy piece of hardware, and yet so many devices and instruments still use it. I use it myself daily in my work with PLC's, HMI's, barcode readers, etc. In my opinion, I don't think it is going anywhere soon, but how long do you think it has got before joining the museum? Do you think it ever will?
