  • Virtual DVD writer

    - by AngryHacker
Hi, my laptop does not have a DVD driver at all. But I'd like to convert my video to a DVD format (e.g. Video_TS and Audio_TS). Is there a Virtual DVD writer out there that can pretend to be a DVD+R or DVD-R or DVD-RW drive?

  • End User Ad-Hoc Reporting Tool: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio or Microsoft Access?

    - by schultkl
Our centralized IT department has suggested two primary ad hoc query tools for our general user base of approximately 200 staff members: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008 (SSMS) Microsoft Access 2003 Environment The backend database is a read-only Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database. The schema is 400+ tables; allowing access to the raw data for our general staff would be a disaster. We will be building an "abstraction layer" over the raw data for our general staff to run ad hoc queries against. The abstraction layer will most likely contain a number of views. A number of users have basic knowledge in Microsoft Access; none have used SSMS. Which of the above tools (or alternative) would be best for a decidedly non-techie user base of approximately 200 people? What are the pros and cons of each? Also, the IT department has suggested teaching people T-SQL so they may use SSMS. Is this reasonable?

  • GWT application throws an exception when run on Google Chrome with compiler output style set to 'OBF

    - by Elifarley
I'd like to know if you guys have faced the same problem I'm facing, and how you are dealing with it. Sometimes, a small and harmless change in a Java class ensues strange errors at runtime. These errors only happen if BOTH conditions below are true: 2) the application is run on Google Chrome, and 1) the GWT JavaScript compiler output style is set to 'OBF'. So, running the application on Firefox or IE always works. Running with the output style set to 'pretty' or 'detailed' always works, even on Google Chrome. Here's an example of error message that I got: "((TypeError): Property 'top' of object [object DOMWindow] is not a function stack" And here's what I have: - GWT 1.5.3 - GXT 1.2.4 - Google Chrome 4 and 5 - Windows XP In order to get rid of this Heisenbug, I have to either deploy my application without obfuscation or endure a time-consuming trial-and-error process in which I re-implement the change in slightly different ways and re-run the application, until the GWT compiler is happy with my code. Would you have a better idea on how to avoid this?

  • In HAML on Ruby on Rails, how to use the :sass filter?

    - by Jian Lin
If using HAML on Ruby on Rails, then :sass #someDiv border: 3px dashed orange won't have any <style> tag around them. and then :css :sass #someDiv border: 3px dashed orange won't kick on the :sass filter, but :css :sass #someDiv border: 3px dashed orange will kick on the :sass filter, but it is outside of the <style> tag. So how can the :sass filter be used?

  • How to setup a Linux machine to remotely use laptop screen as a second display?

    - by Ignas Limanauskas
I am looking for a similar solution to MaxiVista, but for Linux (Ubuntu). I have an Ubuntu machine with just one display attached, but I also have a Windows laptop running a virtual machine with Ubuntu installed. I figured there must be a way to trick the main Ubuntu machine remotely use the virtual machine's display capabilities. After all, X11 does support forwarding and things like that. Any ideas how to do it using VNC? I saw some references to xdmx, but instructions so far are vague and do not seem to work on my machine(s).

  • SQL Server Begin Try

    - by Derek Dieter
The try catch methodology of programming is a great innovation for SQL 2005+. The first question you should ask yourself before using Try/Catch should be “why?”. Why am I going to use Try/Catch? Personally, I have found a few uses, however I must say I do fall into the category of not [...]

  • intiating lists in the constructor's initialization list

    - by bks
i just moved from C to C++, and now work with lists. i have a class called "message", and i need to have a class called "line", which should have a list of messages in its properties. as i learned, the object's properties should be initialized in the constructor's initialization list, and i had the "urge" to initialize the messages list in addition to the rest of the properties (some strings and doubles). is that "urge" justified? does the list need to be initialized? thank you in advance

  • Open Source & Free Adhoc / End User Reporting Tool

    - by Santhanam
Hi, I am looking for an Open Source & Free Browser based Adhoc / End User Reporting Tool preferably based on Java (any other technologies are also welcome). I have researched on JasperServer Pro, BIRT & Pentaho. Even though these are open source & free, the end user/adhoc reporting components needs to be paid annual license fees which is not quite affordable for us. So please tell you suggestions Thanks In Advance.

  • Getting \ building latest NHibernate build

    - by Alex Yakunin
I'd like to get the latest NHibernate build or build it by my own. The build available at SourceForge is dated by Nov 2009, although I see there was a lot of activity later, especially related to LINQ development. So what is the best option? I can: Get the latest source code and try to build it. Are there any instructions for this? Get one of latest builds shared by someone else. Are there any people maintaining such builds? Please note, that I'm not interested in 8-month old builds - I need the latest code for tests (LINQ, performance). I know there is a similar question, but it looks like top answers there are outdated.

  • How can I compare my PHPASS-hashed stored password to my incoming POST data?

    - by Ygam
    Here's a better example, just a simple checking..stored value in database has password: fafa (hashed with phpass in registration) and username: fafa; i am using the phpass password hashing framework public function demoHash($data) //$data is the post data named password { $hash =new PasswordHash(8, false); $query = ORM::factory('user'); $result = $query ->select('username, password') ->where('username', 'fafa') ->find(); $hashed = $hash->HashPassword($data); $check = $hash->CheckPassword($hashed, $result->password); echo $result->username . "<br/>"; echo $result->password . "<br/>"; return $check; } check is returning false

  • What is the best way to interoperably serialize a message?

    - by iwein
I'm considering message serialization support for spring-integration. This would be useful for various wire level transports to implement guaranteed delivery, but also to allow interoperability with other messaging systems (e.g. through AMQP). The fundamental problem that arises is that a message containing Java object in it's payload and headers should be converted to a byte[] and/or written to a stream. Java's own serialization is clearly not going to cut it because that is not interoperable. My preference would be to create an interface that allows the user to implement the needed logic for all Objects that take part in serialization. Is this a sensible idea and what would the interface look like? Is there a standard interoperable way to serialize Objects that would make sense in this context?

  • SQL Server SELECT INTO

    - by Derek Dieter
The most efficient method of copying a result set into a new table is to use the SELECT INTO method. This method also follows a very simple syntax. [/sql] SELECT * INTO dbo.NewTableName FROM dbo.ExistingTable [sql] Once the query above is executed, all the columns and data in the table ExistingTable (along with their datatypes) will be copied into a [...]

  • Using boost::iostreams to parse a binary file byte by byte

    - by Zsol
So I would like to parse a binary file and extract some data from it. The problem I am facing with this is that I need to convert a stream of chars to a stream of unsigned chars. Reading the boost documentation, it seems that boost::iostreams::code_converter should be the solution for this, so I tried this: typedef unsigned char uint8_t; typedef boost::iostreams::stream<boost::iostreams::code_converter< boost::iostreams::basic_array_source<uint8_t> >, std::codecvt<uint8_t, char, std::mbstate_t> > array_stream; The idea was to specify a codecvt with InternalType=uint8_t and ExternalType=char. Unfortunately this does not compile. So the question is: how do I convert a stream of chars to a stream of uint8_ts?
