  • Display System Information on Your Desktop with Desktop Info

    Do you like to monitor your system but do not want a complicated app to do it with? If you love simplicity and easy configuration then join us as we look at Desktop Info. Desktop Info in Action Desktop Info comes in a zip file format so you will need to unzip the app, place it into an appropriate “Program Files Folder”, and create a shortcut. Do NOT delete the “Read Me File”…this will be extremely useful to you when you make changes to the “Configuration File”. Once you have everything set up you are ready to start Desktop Info up. This is the default layout and set of listings displayed when you start Desktop Info up for the first time. The font colors will be a mix of colors as seen here and the font size will perhaps be a bit small but those are very easy to change if desired. You can access the “Context Menu” directly over the “information area”…so no need to look for it in the “System Tray”. Notice that you can easily access that important “Read Me File” from here… The full contents of the configuration file (.ini file) are displayed here so that you can see exactly what kind of information can be displayed using the default listings. The first section is “Options”…you will most likely want to increase the font size while you are here. Then “Items”… If you are unhappy with any of the font colors in the “information area” this is where you can make the changes. You can turn information display items on or off here. And finally “Files, Registry, & Event Logs”. Here is our displayed information after a few tweaks in the configuration file. Very nice. Conclusion If you have been looking for a system information app that is simple and easy to set up then you should definitely give Desktop Info a try.   • can a program written in C be faster than one written in OCaml and translated to C?

    So I have some cool Image Processing algorithm. I have written it in OCaml. It performs well. I now I can compile it as C code with such command ocamlc -output-obj -o foo.c foo.ml (I have a situation where I am not alowed to use OCaml compiler to bild my programm for my arcetecture, I can use only specialy modified gcc. so I will compile that programm with sometyhing like gcc -L/usr/lib/ocaml foo.c -lcamlrun -lm -lncurses and Itll run on my archetecture.) I want to know in general case can a program written in C be faster than one written in OCaml and translated to C?

  • Is this query safe in SQL Server?

    I have this SQL update query: UPDATE table1 SET table1.field1 = 1 WHERE table1.id NOT IN (SELECT table2.table1id FROM table2); Other portions of the application can add records to table2 which use the field table1id to reference table1. The goal here is to remove records from table1 which aren't referenced by table2. Does SQL Server automatically lock table2 with this kind of query so that a new record can't be added to table2 while executing this query? I've also considered: UPDATE table1 SET field1 = 1 WHERE 0 = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table2 WHERE table1.id = table2.table1id); Which seems possibly safer, but much slower (because a SELECT would be called on each row of table1 instead of just one select for the NOT IN)

    My application will offer a list of suggestions for English names that "sound like" a given typed name. The query will need to be optimized and return results as quick as possible. Which option would be most optimal for returning results quickly. (Or your own suggestion if you have one) A. Generate the Soundex Hash and store it in the "Names" table then do something like the following: (This saves generating the soundex hash for at least every row in my db per query right?) select name from names where NameSoundex = Soundex('Ann') B. Use the Difference function (This must generate the soundex for every name in the table?) select name from names where Difference(name, 'Ann') = 3 C. Simple comparison select name from names where Soundex(name) = Soundex('Ann') Option A seems like to me it would be the fastest to return results because it only generates the Soundex for one string then compares to an indexed column "NameSoundex" Option B should give more results than option A because the name does not have to be an exact match of the soundex, but could be slower Assuming my table could contain millions of rows, what would yield the best results?

  • getting a blank data report vb6

    Hi, I am new to vb6. I am working to create the invoice generation application. I am using data report to show the generated invoice. The step by step working of process is Entering the data in to Invoice and ItemsInvoice tables. Then getting the maxId using (Adodc) from the data base to show the last generated Invoice. Then passing the max Id as parameter to the data report which is showing the invoice according to the invoice id. It is working fine when I first time generate invoice. Now for 2nd invoice withou closing application I am getting a blank data report. For data report I am using dataenvironment. I am guessing the reason of blank data report is blank because there was no record for that Id. But actually the record is inserting in the database. Please help me.

  • python calendar to calculate month backwards

    Hi, we are trying to create a calendar function in python. we have created a small content management system, the requirement is, there will be a drop down list on the top right hand corner of the website, which will give the options - Months - 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and so on..., if the user selects 8 months then it should show the postscount for the last 8 months. the issue is we tried to write a small code which would do the month calculations, but the bug is that it does not consider the months beyond the current year, it shows the postscount only for months of the current year. for example: if the user selects 3 months, it will show the count for the l 3 months i.e present month and the previous 2 months, but if the user selects option more than 4 months, it does not consider the months from previous year, it still shows the month of the present year only.     I need to add a CSS class to the TR (or multiple TR's) of the parent of a TD containing some specific text. Because of the CMS I can't control the code, but I can add some Jquery and CSS. I've tried a few things, but I've had no luck.
