  • Django - Tips to avoid repeating code in views

    - by D Roddis
I'm moving from a PHP background into Django development via python, mostly for the sake of tackling a MVC (or MVT) that I feel makes the most sense, although in this pattern I've started to notice a lot of repeated code in my views. For example, when logged in I have information regarding the user that I would like to appear on every page, although when using render_to_response and in every view this is required I have to grab the information and pass it to the render_to_response function. I'm wondering what would be the most efficient way to cut down on the duplicate code which would in essence be required in all views in a particular app. Thanks in advance.

  • How to persist changes in a .settings/.config file across a file version change?

    - by CuriousCoder
I have created an application that uses settings.settings to store some user specific settings (scope=User). Settings are loaded correctly on startup, changed during use and saved correctly for next launch. This cycle appears to have no problems. The problem arises when I update the assembly and file versions for a new build. The settings are no longer loaded on startup (instead the default values are used). It also appears that a config file saved from version 1.1 will persist even if version 1.2 is launched and a NEW config file is generated and saved too (i.e. you can relaunch version 1.1 and the config file will be the config file that was saved from that version). So it appears that the settings are specific to the version of the assembly and/or file. It is also worth noting that between version 1.1 and version 1.2 there were no changes to the settings.settings file or anything else for that matter (i.e. the only change I made between these different builds was modifying the version numbers). Is there a way to persist these settings across version changes?

    - by Zia ur Rahman
I have just started the Assembly language programming and in the first lecture our teacher told us about intel 8080 and intel 8085 and he said there was 64k memory with these processor. Now i want to know that how we find this amount of memory with specific processor, for example i have a processor 1.8 Ghz , now how i can find out the amount of memory that can be used with this processor. what i am trying to ask is tell me the method how we can find out this amount of memory?

  • How Long: Converting HTML to Jooma pages

    - by George
Hello Everyone, I would really appreciate your help with finding out how long it takes a 1-3 year experenced programmer to convert a few HTML pages into joomla 1.5 dynamic pages. I know that some of it depends on how complex the pages are but i'm talking about average pages. That's my first question, my other question is how long will it take a 1-3 year experenced programmer to install all of these componants: Video module, photo gallery module, vertuemart shopping cart. I pay programmers to do this work but i have to make as sure as i can that i'm not over paying them. Thanks in advance for answering these two questions...George

Lets say the name for the executable is flow.exe. And my executable is lacated in C:\Documents and Settings\flow_model I tried both os.system and popen commands but so far couldnt make it work. The following code seems like opens the command window but wouldnt execute the model. # Import system modules import sys, string, os, arcgisscripting os.system("C:/Documents and Settings/flow_model/flow.exe") Any suggestions out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Examples of monoids/semigroups in programming

    - by jkff
It is well-known that monoids are stunningly ubiquitous in programing. They are so ubiquitous and so useful that I, as a 'hobby project', am working on a system that is completely based on their properties (distributed data aggregation). To make the system useful I need useful monoids :) I already know of these: Numeric or matrix sum Numeric or matrix product Minimum or maximum under a total order with a top or bottom element (more generally, join or meet in a bounded lattice, or even more generally, product or coproduct in a category) Set union Map union where conflicting values are joined using a monoid Intersection of subsets of a finite set (or just set intersection if we speak about semigroups) Intersection of maps with a bounded key domain (same here) Merge of sorted sequences, perhaps with joining key-equal values in a different monoid/semigroup Bounded merge of sorted lists (same as above, but we take the top N of the result) Cartesian product of two monoids or semigroups List concatenation Endomorphism composition. Now, let us define a quasi-property of an operation as a property that holds up to an equivalence relation. For example, list concatenation is quasi-commutative if we consider lists of equal length or with identical contents up to permutation to be equivalent. Here are some quasi-monoids and quasi-commutative monoids and semigroups: Any (a+b = a or b, if we consider all elements of the carrier set to be equivalent) Any satisfying predicate (a+b = the one of a and b that is non-null and satisfies some predicate P, if none does then null; if we consider all elements satisfying P equivalent) Bounded mixture of random samples (xs+ys = a random sample of size N from the concatenation of xs and ys; if we consider any two samples with the same distribution as the whole dataset to be equivalent) Bounded mixture of weighted random samples Which others do exist?

  • getting Error while set up the connection pool in jboss

    - by Yashwant Chavan
Hi as per following Connection pool configuration facing some issue. Place a copy of mysql-connector-java-[version]-bin.jar in $JBOSS_HOME/server/all/lib. Then, follow the example configuration file named mysql-ds.xml in the $JBOSS_HOME/docs/examples/jca directory that comes with a JBoss binary installation. To activate your DataSource, place an xml file that follows the format of mysql-ds.xml in the deploy subdirectory in either $JBOSS_HOME/server/all, $JBOSS_HOME/server/default, or $JBOSS_HOME/server/[yourconfig] as appropriate. I am getting following error resource-ref: jdbc/buinessCaliberDb has no valid JNDI binding. Check the jboss-web/resource-ref. This is my mysql-ds.xml <datasources> <local-tx-datasource> <jndi-name>jdbc/buinessCaliberDb</jndi-name> <connection-url>jdbc:mysql:///BUSINESS</connection-url> <driver-class>com.mysql.jdbc.Driver</driver-class> <user-name>root</user-name> <password>password</password> <exception-sorter-class-name>org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.vendor.MySQLExceptionSorter</exception-sorter-class-name> <!-- should only be used on drivers after 3.22.1 with "ping" support <valid-connection-checker-class-name>org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.vendor.MySQLValidConnectionChecker</valid-connection-checker-class-name> --> <!-- sql to call when connection is created <new-connection-sql>some arbitrary sql</new-connection-sql> --> <!-- sql to call on an existing pooled connection when it is obtained from pool - MySQLValidConnectionChecker is preferred for newer drivers <check-valid-connection-sql>some arbitrary sql</check-valid-connection-sql> --> <!-- corresponding type-mapping in the standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml (optional) --> <metadata> <type-mapping>mySQL</type-mapping> </metadata> </local-tx-datasource> </datasources> and this my web.xml entry <resource-ref> <description>DB Connection</description> <res-ref-name>jdbc/buinessCaliberDb</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> and this jboss-web.xml entry <jboss-web> <resource-ref> <description>DB Connection</description> <res-ref-name>jdbc/buinessCaliberDb</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> </jboss-web> Please help

  • Do fluent interfaces violate the Law of Demeter?

    - by Jakub Šturc
The wikipedia article about Law of Demeter says: The law can be stated simply as "use only one dot". However a simple example of a fluent interface may look like this: static void Main(string[] args) { new ZRLabs.Yael.Pipeline("cat.jpg") .Rotate(90) .Watermark("Monkey") .RoundCorners(100, Color.Bisque) .Save("test.png"); } So does this goes together?

  • C++ Win32 Unhandled Exception Handler

    - by uray
currently I used SetUnhandledExceptionFilter() to provide callback to get information when an unhandled exception was occurred, that callback will provides me with EXCEPTION_RECORD which provides ExceptionAddress. [1]what is actually ExceptionAddress is? does it the address of function / code that gives exception, or the memory address that some function tried to access? [2]is there any better mechanism that could give me better information when unhandled exception occured? (I can't use debug mode or add any code that affect runtime performance, since crash is rare and only on release build when code run as fast as possible) [3]is there any way for me to get several callstack address when unhandled exception occured. [4]suppose ExceptionAddress has address A, and I have DLL X loaded and executed at base address A-x, and some other DLL Y at A+y, is it good to assume that crash was PROBABLY caused by code on DLL X?

  • Is a PHP-only "cache engine" ever worth it?

    - by adsads
I wrote a rather small skeleton for my web apps and thought that I would also add a small cache for it. It is rather simple: If the current page exists as a file in the cache and the file isn't too old, read it out and exit instead of rebuilding the page If the current page isn't cached/outdated recalc the page and save it However, the bad thing about it is: My performance tests with a page that receives 40 relatively long posts via a MySQL query said that with using the cache, it took even longer to handle a single request (1000 tests each) How can that happen? Should I just remove the complete raw-PHP cache and relieve on the availability of some PHP cache like memcached or so?

  • How do I base a style on a Silverlight toolkit theme style

    - by Ian Oakes
I've being trying to add a theme from the Silverlight toolkit to a project. In the project there are a number of existing styles used in the layout. The problem is when any control has an explict style applied to it does not receive any attributes of the style from the theme. In WPF I would use something like BasedOn={x:Type TextBox}, but this is not supported in Silverlight. I've considered going through the theme and setting a key for every style and then using BasedOn to create both an implicit style to use with the ImplictStyleManager, as well as another explicit style for use with the existing styled controls. Have you got any better ideas?

  • function overloading in C

    - by FL4SOF
Is there any way to achieve function overloading in C? I am looking at simple functions to be overloaded like foo (int a) foo (char b) foo (float c , int d) I think there is no straight forward way, looking for workarounds if any?

  • How to Deal with SET ANSI_NULLS ON or OFF ?

    - by Shantanu Gupta
I want to call this procedure that sends one value that can be NULL or any int value. SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId I simply want to use this single query rather than what i m doing right now in below given code. I searched for this how could i do this then i got this Link. According to this I have to set ANSI_NULLS OFF I am not able to set this inside this procedure before executing my sql query and then reset it again after doing this. ALTER PROCEDURE [Tags].[spOnlineTest_SubDomainSelect] @SubDomainId INT AS BEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here IF @SubDomainId IS NULL SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId IS NULL ELSE SELECT DomainName, DomainCode FROM Tags.tblDomain WHERE SubDomainId =@SubDomainId END What will be the better practice to do deal with ANSI_NULLS or Using If Else

  • Can I specify the files to commit in subversion in a file rather than on the command line?

    - by René Nyffenegger
I have renamed (with svn move) a lot of files in a subversion project. Now, I am trying to commit these on Window's cmd.exe. It seems that I hit a limit (probably by cmd.exe) in that the number of files is too long for the command line to swallow. Now, I thought and hoped that I could list the files to commit in a seperate file that I could specify with the commit command (something like svn ci --files-to-commit=renamed-files.txt -m "Renamed a lot of files" Yet, either such an option does not exist or I am unable to find this. Unfortunately, I cannot do a svn ci . as I have done other changes in the project as well. Neither can I do a svn ci *pattern-of-renamed-files* since this would only check in the added files, not the deleted ones. Before I start checking in the files with smaller chunks of files to check in (and thus increase the revision number uneccesserily without giving a hint as to the 'atomicity' of the operation) I thought I ask if this is indeed impossible to do.

  • My Website was hacked using Statcounter! Does Statcounter keep a record of cookies?

    - by Cyril Gupta
I had a rather interesting case of hacking on my ASP.Net MVC website. For this website I had implemented a rather uncomplicated authentication system for my admin area -- an encrypted cookie which had an identifying signature for the member. Whenever the admin visits the website the cookie would be decrypted and signature verified. If matching he wouldn't have to sign in. Couple of days ago a visitor on my site told me that he was able to sign into my website simply by clicking no a referral link on his Statcounter console which pointed to my admin area (I had visited his site from a link inside my admin view). He just clicked on a link in statcounter and he was signed in as the admin! The only way this could have happened was if statcounter somehow recorded my cookies and used those when he clicked on the link pointing to my admin! Is that logical or fathomable? I don't understand what's going on. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can protect my website against things like this?
