    Many people use Nant or Powershell for deployment of their apps to different servers/environments. These are based on scripting while some solutions allow deployment to be embedded in code like Migrator.Net and other Ruby inspired Db deployment/migration frameworks in .NET. I was wondering if there are any frameworks for .NET for application deployment that would allow developers to embed full deployment inside code. Things like copying files, creating web apps in IIS, stopping and starting services and so on.

  • delay ring between two font style changing

    Hi I want to change font style of a control , for a short time. for example 2 secounds. I do like : label1.Font = new Font(label1.Font, label1.Font.Style | FontStyle.Bold); for(int i=0,i<4000000,i++); label1.Font = new Font(label1.Font, label1.Font.Style | FontStyle.Regular); but it doesn't work. what is the problem?

  • xmlns naming convention

    Do you use a naming convention for your XML namespaces? And if so, what reasoning lies behind it. I was actually amazed that hardly anyone wrote about a naming convention for XML namespaces. Most namespaces I've seen have the format of http://example.org/<some identifier> or http://example.org/scheme/<some identifier>. But that really lacks structuring beyond the initial "company" identifier.

    While trying to compile the example code from 'Example C Program: Using CryptProtectData' I ran into a roadblock; The linker cannot find CryptUnprotectData.   • How to amend return value design in OO manner?

    Hello. I am no newb on OO programming, but I am faced with a puzzling situation. I have been given a program to work on and extend, but the previous developers didn't seem that comfortable with OO, it seems they either had a C background or an unclear understanding of OO. Now, I don't suggest I am a better developer, I just think that I can spot some common OO errors. The difficult task is how to amend them. In my case, I see a lot of this: if (ret == 1) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 2) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 3) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 0) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 5) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 6) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } else if (ret == 7) { out.print("yadda yadda"); } ret is a value returned by a function, in which all Exceptions are swallowed, and in the catch blocks, the above values are returned explicitly. Oftentimes, the Exceptions are simply swallowed, with empty catch blocks. It's obvious that swalllowing exceptions is wrong OO design. My question concerns the use of return values. I believe that too is wrong, however I think that using Exceptions for control flow is equally wrong, and I can't think of anything to replace the above in a correct, OO manner. Your input, please?

  • Multiple Apps Possible via Launch Services, want to Specify Particular One

    Here's the issue: I have a list of App names that I want to launch. They do not include a path (e.g. {"VLC","Microsoft Word"}. I have two different copies of VLC in different directories. I would like Launch Services to ONLY open the one from /Applications/ and not EVER launch from /Applications/AnotherDirectory I want to get the path of these, and test to see what Launch Services wants to launch (via bash with "open" or applescript via "tell _ to launch" or [NSWorkspace launch...]) The only way that I have come up with to test the path of a file about to be launched by launch services is: Applescript: tell application "Finder" to return the (posix path of (path to application "VLC" as alias)) That works fine, but launches the app (which I don't want at all). Suggestions?

  • Chinese Characters in email sent via PHP not showing up.

    hi All, a funny problem. I send mail via PHP from my testing server with Chinese chars in it and it sends perfectly. Encoding is utf-8. When I upload the same PHP file to another server and try to send from there, the e-mail will look 90% fine in one mail client (web-based mail actually, gmail), but in my mail client (Apple Mail) it's all gibberish even when I try changing the encoding in the mail client. I'm stuck here because everything works fine on one server, but not on another so I'm not sure where to start looking for solutions. What's even more puzzling is that on the production server, the mail looks somewhat ok (strange case of some characters not showing) but in other mail apps it looks like garbage. any idea where I can start looking to solve this? thanks for any help here!   • XHtml Strict, Float: Center ?

    Hi everyone. I'm having hard time with Xhtml Strict 1.0 and Css. And I'm almost out of solutions. My Site Url: http://www.pro-turk.net/beta/ I made a jquery multilevel dropdown menu for my site. It looks like OK, but I have used inline-block property of css display attribute on navigation menu which is a part of css 2.1 and isn't supported by some browsers (including ie6 and ie7). I want to make #nav li elements block level elements, but to do this and having all of them in same line, the only way is using float in #nav li. But I want to center them in their parent (the menu bar). So I need something like float:center (I know it's pretty stupid and doesn't exist). But is there a way to include block level elements as children elements without linebreaks (I mean without making a block level element). Regards.

    Hello, Here is the .htaccess entry. what I intended to do is to transfer anyone typing as www.yahoo.com/Hello to www.yahoo.com/index.php?h=hello. Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteRule /index.php?u=$1 Now for some reason it shows me a 404 error when I type in yahoo.com too, I wonder what is wrong. Thanks Jean

  • How to use thread in Django

    I want to check users' subscribed dates for certain period. And send mail to users whose subscription is finishing (ex. reminds two days). I think the best way is using thread and timer to check dates. But I have no idea how to call this function. I don't want to make a separate program or shell. I want to combine this procedure to my django code. I tried to call this function in my settings.py file. But it seems it is not a good idea. It calls the fucntion and creates thread everytime i imported settings.

  • how to create a https proxy?

    hi, i want to implement a simple ssl web proxy. i do not want to work with the network connection problems. so i think i can utilize a web server (like apache) to help me establish the connection, and my program works like a cgi app on the web server to redirect the web browser request. below is how i want to implement it: client make http/https requests to the target web site, and setting to use my http/https proxy; apache get the request, and use a rewrite rule to redirect the to my cgi app; my app parse the request and make request to the real web site; my app get the response from the real web site, then send the response back to the client; currently, http requests seem to work. but https requests do not work at all. i tried to use curl to make a request to a https web site through my proxy, and the result is CONNECTION FAILED. my question is, will my idea work? if yes, how to make the https requests work.

  • running vmstat around a command

    Im trying to automate a long list of database experiments. I would like to save vmstat output while specific parts of the experiments are running. Does something exist along the lines of time(1) or script(1) that I could use to say: " While this command is running, save vmstat 2(or similar) output to a file " I am aware that vmstat gives my vmstat for the complete system including other processes, but that is OK for my usage. (Running Ubuntu 9.10 if that makes a difference)

  • Load images in parallel - supported by browser or a feature to implement?

    Hi all: I am not a pro in web development and Apache server still remains a mystery to me. we've got a project which runs on LAMP, pretty much like all the commercial hosting plans. I am confused about one problem : does modern browsers support image loading in parallel? or this requires some special feature/config set up from server side? Can this be done with PHP coding or by some server-side configuration? Is a special content delivery networking needed for this? The benchmark demonstration will be the flickr website. I am too suprised to see how all image thumbnails are loaded in a short time after a search as if there were only one image to load. Sorry I cannot present any code to you... completed lost in this:(

I could also achive this by having sth. like __init__ for class creation, in order to dynamically create these attributes from dictionary and save a lot of code and stupid work.     Hi, I am having a problem. I have some prices in a checkout displayed, they are "discount prices." How can I get these values from my page and add them together to display in a new div? I have two prices for two products 1000 and 2000, I want to be able to add these together to make 3000 and display it as a total in a new div. Example of what I'm going for here.   • What default targets do you have in your typical ant buildfile?

    Do you have some predefined set of targets which all build.xml files you create contain? For example, a lot of ant manuals suggest the following list of targets: init clean compile build jar test javadoc dist deploy webapp What is the most large build file you met in your life? How many targets did it have and what are they? How often do you need more than predefined set of targets? The goal is to develop some conventions to have standard buildfile template for any project having the notion of the maven-like approach in mind (when a lot of work happens under the cover, convention over configuration). Also it would be great if you know the place where one can find collection of different buildfiles to choose or to get inspired from.
