    i am taking an image from a source, say, facebook. now when i want to insert that image in a container with fixed width and height, the image stretches to fit that space. is there a way the image can display in its normal size and the rest of the area clipped out?

  • How to do a search from a list with non-prefix keywords[Solved]

    The Problem is Solved. Thanks for every answers. First of all, sorry if my english or my post got any mistakes. I am programming a program to search the name from the list and I need to find them even if the keyword is not in front of the names (that's what I mean non-prefix) e.g. if I my list is the music instruments and I type "guit" to the search textbox. And another problem is I need to search music instruments by a category like strings, percussions, ... and by the country of origins. So I need to search them with filter by type and country. please help me. P.S.     Hi, I'm trying to execute with Maven some test written using Ant tasks. I generated the files required to import the task into Maven, but I can't execute them.     I'm good at programming yet I feel like I don't know enough about the architecture of the hardware I'm working on. What does the Northbridge on the mainboard do? What does the L2 cache of my processor do? Can Windows XP use multiple processors? Not in terms of concrete multitasking in all programs but using the capacity of all cores if needed instead of always only one core. How can my processor/mainboard interact with multiple kinds of graphics/sound cards?

    I've been doing a lot of calculating stuff nowadays.Usually I prefer to do this job in PHP rather than Mysql though I know PHP is not good at this cuz I thought mysql may be worse.But I found some performance problem :some pages were loaded so slowly that 30 seconds' timelimit is not enough for them!So I wonder which is the better practice to do the calculations,and any princles for that?Suggestions would be appreciated.

    I am creating a voting system for a Q&A site project in which if a user asks a question, he/she losses -5 points; answer a question +5, vote a question +1, etc. (kind of like SO and yahoo answers) --To create the basic arithmetic, I have a "users_points" table that relates the user_id and their total points. +---+---------+ | 1 | 100 | +---+---------+ | 2 | 54 | +---+---------+ --Basically if the users does certain task, it would + or - the points. How do I prevent users from say voting an answer up 100 times. ex: I want a user to be only able to vote once per question, etc.

    From assembly(or module) perspective, what do you think of separation of Interface (1.assembly) and its Implementation (2.assembly)? In this way we can use some IoC container to develop more decoupling desing.. Say we have an assembly 'A', which contains interfaces only. Then we have an assembly 'B' which references 'A' and implements those interfaces..It is dependent only on 'A'. In assembly 'C' then we can use the IoC container to create objects of 'A' using dependency injection of objects from 'B'. This way 'B' and 'C' are completely unaware (not dependent) of themselves..

  • dbpedia auto-suggest labels

    Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

  • Generating the SQL query plan takes 5 minutes, the query itself runs in milliseconds. What's up?

    I have a fairly complex (or ugly depending on how you look at it) stored procedure running on SQL Server 2008. It bases a lot of the logic on a view that has a pk table and a fk table. The fk table is left joined to the pk table slightly more than 30 times (the fk table has a poor design - it uses name value pairs that I need to flatten out. Unfortunately, it's 3rd party and I cannot change it). Anyway, it had been running fine for weeks until I periodically noticed a run that would take 3-5 minutes. It turns out that this is the time it takes to generate the query plan. Once the query plan exists and is cached, the stored procedure itself runs very efficiently. Things run smoothly until there is a reason to regenerate and cache the query plan again. Has anyone seen this? Why does it take so long to generate the plan? Are there ways to make it come up with a plan faster?

  • How to explain to client that you can't give them some of the source

    We have a number of AS/Flex components that we've built over time and improved upon. They've been turned into components so they can be reused in different projects and save us time. So you can think of them as part of an in-house framework of sorts. We're now realizing that it doesn't make sense to release the source code for these components to the various clients as part of the project, because technically this code isn't really owned by the clients. So my question When a client comes to you, how do you explain to them that you can't give them the full source code for those components. The client doesn't understand the difference, he just expects you to give them all the code for the site that he paid you to do. He doesn't understand that this code has taken you a lot longer to write than what he's paying for his site. But since he doesn't understand, he would get turned off and thinks you're ripping him off or something. How do you handle this situation? What do you tell clients upfront? Do you advertise it on your site from the very beginning? How do you handle their objections so they still hire you? As a side question, how often do you give AS and Flex source code to your clients? In the case when the code doesn't have any in-house components that you reuse in several projects, and in the case when it does have in-house components.

    My situation is that I need to proxy traffic to the root of my web server to port 81 for IIS, and then any traffic to a sub-directory needs to be directed to the rails app. my-server.com/ - needs to proxy to port 81 my-server.com/myapp - needs to point to the rails app This seems to be working alright for the rails application but the images, javascripts, and stylesheets are not actually working (proxied). I've tried to fiddle with the proxypass lines but it still doesn't work for me..can anyone help?
