  • UIView fine for iPhone 4in, but squashed in iPhone 3.5in

    - by coopersita
I started a new project in the new Xcode, and I see that my default the main window is set to 320x548. I'm fine with that, but when I test my app, a view I added to my main xib, which is supposed to be 280x280, looks more like 280x200 when testing on 3.5in devices. I've tried changing the settings for that view in the xib, but nothing seems to affect it. How do I ensure background compatibility so that in older devices the view is the same size?

  • Make UIViewController outside Navigation Controller

    - by user1447316
i have a question for you. I'm working on this app that has a walkthrough/tutorial screens and also login ones. On each of this screens there is a button to skip this part and go directly to use the app, without completing the registration (you know, so that people can test it before signing-in). As you can see i'm using Storyboards. The NowPlaying04 ViewController is actually the app itself. Obviously, when the user will be a registered one, i should also be able to jump right back to that screen, skipping the walkthrough and signin process. The first question is: how is the best way to structure this? The second quesion is: how i can make a ViewController outside that Navigation controller. Cause as you can see now, the NowPlaying04 ViewController inherits the top navigation bar. Which is a thing that i don't want. I don't need that. I hope that you have understood my question. I'll appreciate any help. Programmatically or by dragging stuff around, i'm ok with all the solutions. The important thing is that it works correctly! :-)

  • iPhone to Java EE remoting

    - by Justin Simonelis
Hi there! I was looking for some opinions on the best remote method invocation practices when developing iPhone applications that communicate with Java (java EE) servers. Many iphone applications these days typically talk to a server back end. I typically prefer to write my servers in java using some Spring libraries. So far I have not found or stuck to a definitive practice for iphone-java server communication. What are some technical solutions and libraries that you have used to implement this kind of client-server communication? One thing I always keep in mind is that I want the communication protocols to be simple so that multiple platforms can be added for example, in future adding Android and possibly Blackberry clients, that can use the same protocol to talk to the server.

  • Remove a ReactiveCocoa signal from a control

    - by dbarros
    If I assign a signal to a property of a control: RAC(self.loginButton.enabled) = [RACSignal combineLatest:@[ self.usernameTextField.rac_textSignal, self.passwordTextField.rac_textSignal ] reduce:^(NSString* username, NSString* password) { return @(username.length > 0 && password.length > 0); }]; But then wanted to assign a different RACSignal to enabled, how can I clear any existing one before doing so? If I try and set it a second time, I get an exception like the following: 2013-10-29 16:54:50.623 myApp[3688:c07] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Signal <RACSignal: 0x975e9e0> name: +combineLatest: ( "<RACSignal: 0x975d600> name: <UITextField: 0x10f2c420> -rac_textSignal", "<RACSignal: 0x975de30> name: <UITextField: 0x10f306e0> -rac_textSignal" ) reduce: is already bound to key path "self.loginButton.enabled" on object <LoginViewController: 0x10f264e0>, adding signal <RACSignal: 0x9763500> name: +combineLatest: ( "<RACSignal: 0x97624f0> name: <UITextField: 0x10f2c420> -rac_textSignal", "<RACSignal: 0x97629e0> name: <UITextField: 0x10f306e0> -rac_textSignal" ) reduce: is undefined behavior'

  • Is it possible to achieve string localization inside of a statically linked lib?

    - by user3696003
I am working on building an SDK which will be built out as a statically linked library that third party applications can then drop in to their applications. Inside of this SDK, I was looking to be able to perform some "localization." Basically, I would like for the code in my SDK to be able to access some ".string" files to perform some string lookup and language translation capabilities. Then I could propagate these strings outward to implementing App layers through my exposed API's. Is this even possible? I thought it was but now that I have actually been trying, I am seriously having doubts.

    - by user3717465
We began the review of your app but are not able to continue because we need a demo account to fully access your app features. Please provide demo account details in the Review Notes section of the Version Information for your app. Please ensure that the information you provide includes any data necessary to demonstrate the functionality of your app features. You can provide demo account information, including passwords, in the Review Notes section of your iTunes Connect App Information. While your iTunes Connect Application State shows as Metadata Rejected, we don't require a new binary to correct this issue. Please visit iTunes Connect, Manage Your Applications. Select your app, then click View Details of the desired version. Click the Edit button next to Version Information to edit the Review Notes for your app, then click "Save". how to correct the meta data. because i do not have login account.

  • Downloading image from server without file extension (NSData to UIImage)

    - by Msencenb
From my server I'm pulling down a url that is supposed to simply be a profile image. The relevant code for pulling down the image from the urls is this: NSString *urlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@",kBaseURL,profile_image_url]; profilePic = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:urlString]]]; My url is in the format (note no file extension on the end since its dynamically rendered) localhost:8000/people/1/profile_image If I load the url in my browser the image displays; however the code above for pulling down the UIImage does not work. I've verified that the code does pull an image from a random site on the interwebs. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

  • managed object subclasses are not generating implementation files and are incorrectly named

    - by mkc842
In Xcode 4.6, I generated plenty of managed object subclass files without any problem. But now that I'm trying to do it in Xcode 5, it generates only a .h file. The header file has the correct properties, but it takes the name of my project, rather than the name of the core data entity I selected. Just to be sure I hadn't forgotten something, I carefully followed these steps . What could be going on? Thanks

  • Highlight cell after modalview has been dissmissed

    - by Trj
I have a table view and a toolbar where items can be added to the table view. The addItemView is presented modally. Now, when i dismiss the modal view i would like to indicate which cell was added. For now i have used the setSelected and deselct methods on UITableView, but they are fired too quickly. What would be a good approach to give the user a good indication on which cell was added? Could i add a timer which prevented the setSelected method from firing right away?

  • ViewDidLoad not being called with my custom UIViewController

    - by user1060500
I have created a custom UIViewController class that creates a ScrollView at runtime that it loads into the view. See code here in the constructor of my custom UIViewController. initControl(id, canEdit); _controllers = new NSMutableArray(0); //required to keep view controllers around _scrollView = new UIScrollView(); _scrollView.BackgroundColor = UIColor.Green; this.View = _scrollView; ViewDidAppear and ViewWillAppear are called normally. ViewDidLoad is not called which I am not sure why as the view is showing up on the screen just fine. Any ideas?

  • Singleton Creation preference

    - by cwieland
You can create singletons in a variety of ways. I am wondering which is better between these. +(ServerConnection*)shared{ static dispatch_once_t pred=0; __strong static id _sharedObject = nil; dispatch_once(&pred, ^{ _sharedObject = [[self alloc] init]; // or some other init method }); return _sharedObject; } I could see that this compiles down to something very fast. I would think that checking the predicate would be another function call. The other is: +(ServerConnection*)shared{ static ServerConnection* connection=nil; if (connection==nil) { connection=[[ServerConnection alloc] init]; } return connection; } Are there any major differences between the two? I know these are probably similar enough to not worry about it. But Just wondering.

  • UIButtons display differently on UIImageView when created at design time vs. run time

    - by PRITISH
I have added some UIButton objects into .xib file, and some UIButton objects with the code. But now I am facing one problem. While Zooming the UIImageView the UIButtons that are added through code are shown on the UIImageView and those that are added with .xib file are below the UIImageView. Code for UIButtons added with code: btnBrightness = UIButton.FromType (UIButtonType.RoundedRect); btnBrightness.Frame = new RectangleF (540, 20, 95, 37); btnBrightness.SetTitle ("Brightness", UIControlState.Normal); More details: monotouch

  • What's the proper size of Default png's for iPad?

    - by David John
I am confused by conflicting information. Most commonly I see these being the sizes quoted for the various Default images: Launch image Portrait Default-Portrait.png 768 x 1004 Launch image Portrait [email protected] 1536 x 2008 Launch image Landscape [email protected] 2048 x 1496 Launch image Landscape Default-Landscape.png 1024 x 748 Seemed like slightly unusual sizes, but I went along with it and dragged the images into the Launch images section in XCode. XCode however promptly puts little yellow triangles over these images and tell me that the sizes should be: 768x1024, 1536x2048, 1024x768 and 2048x1536 Oh and one last important bit. Do I really need to have all these images for submission to the app store? It's really not clear which images are required and which are just recommended. Mine is a Universal app btw if that makes any difference.

  • iPhone: Localizing app icon still not supported?

    - by js_
My app's icon includes some text. So I want to change language of the text by language or country. There is a post which says localizing app icon is not supported: http://useyourloaf.com/blog/2010/12/16/localizing-iphone-app-icon-is-not-supported.html But it was posted in December 2010, one and half years ago from now. Is it still not possible to change icon of app by language? Localizing both icon of app on device and icon on App Store are not supported? Or localizing icon only on App Store is possible?

  • How To Create a lookup Table with an NSDate for weekly range (over 5 year period)

    - by EarlyMan
Unsure how to best achieve this. NSDate *date = [NSDate date]; I need to do a lookup on the date and return a string value. 12/17/2011 < date < 12/23/2011 return "20120101" 12/24/2011 < date < 12/30/2012 return "20120102" 12/31/2011 < date < 01/06/2012 return "20120201" ... 10/20/2012 < date < 10/26/2012 return "20122301" ... 11/02/2013 < date < 11/08/2013 return "20132301" .. for 5 years... for each week date can be any date until Dec. 2017. I do not know the logic behind the return strings so I can't simply calculate the string based on the date. The return string (converted to NSDate in the model) is used successfully as my section for my fetchedresultscontroller. I am not sure how to create a lookup table based on an NSDate or if I need some monster if/case statement.

  • Uploading video file to server from iPhone

    - by SshUser
I know how to upload images to a server running PHP, but I am stuck on uploading video. I have used this advice to upload my video file. Posting method is all ok. What I get on the server is a file of 0 bytes. My code is below: - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { NSURL *videoURL = [info objectForKey:UIImagePickerControllerMediaURL]; NSData *videoData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[videoURL path]]; } This videoData is passed in my POST method. What should I do instead?

  • Manage the scrolling of just one element in a ScrollView

    - by morgan1189
So, I have a ScrollView which has cards on it. ScrollView must be paging enabled. The goal is that the user must be able to scroll it, even if it has only one card. Since i am having the frame of ScrollView of exactly the same width and height as a picture of a card, i decided to increase the width of a ScrollView.contentSize and add one point to it. It turns out to be working fine, but it glitches a bit - when i drag the card to the left, and then grab it again it moves to right a little bit (i guess, for the value of that one point). If i increase the contentSize, the shift increases too (for example, if the content size is increased by ten, the shift value is ten points too). It really irritates me a lot and I want to get rid of it. Any advice on how to do that? Help is much appreciated. UPD: I tried to manually re-center the card in the scrollViewDidEndDecelerating but that didn't help. My guess for now is that the problem can be solved by setting the content offset to the right value (because now it's (0,0)), but I can't figure out how to do it.

  • Getting country calling prefix

    - by Telkitty
Just wondering whether there are easy ways to retrieve country calling code from a user's phone. For example, my app would like to pre-fill country calling code for the users. If the user is located in the U.S. the code +1 will be returned, +83 for China, +61 for Australia etc. I had a look around but I could only see: NSLocale *locale = [NSLocale currentLocale]; NSString *countryCode = [locale objectForKey: NSLocaleCountryCnode]; Which returns the abbreviation for the country code, not the calling prefix? Help is appreciated!

  • "pay if you want to" using in app purchases (iphone)

    - by Jonathan
I realise that you can't use in app purchases for real things. But does an in app purchase actually have to give extra functionality in the app. Can it be used to have optional paying? I've made an app that really should be free but I'd like to make a little money even if it's only one 59p. So could I have an in app purchase which users can click to pay if they want to. it might sound stupid but I'm betting there is at least one person who would becase they are nice :)
