  How would I do to check if a email actially exists? Cant understand how sites do to send mails with a unique link that the users clicks to validate that he is the owner of email =/ Make a 2 new columns called activationkey and activated and store some random string, send an email with the activationkey, and update the users activated =1 that match that activation link register.php?a=activate&key=9cdfb439c7876e703e307864c9167a15 Any better ideas?

  I've got an Ubuntu server set up with PHP 5.2, apache and sendmail. I've got some Drupal sites that should be sending emails but are not. I don't see any errors in the apache logs and there appears to be nothing in /var/log/mail.log. What do I need to do to debug this?

• Detecting if youtube is blocked by company / ISP

  We have Youtube videos on a site and want to detect if it is likely that they will not be able to view them due to (mostly likely) company policy or otherwise. We have two sites: 1) Flex / Flash 2) HTML I think with Flex I can attempt to download http://youtube.com/crossdomain.xml and if it is valid XML assume the site is available But with HTML I dont know how to do it. I cant even think of a 'nice hack'

I am saying this because when I talked with my teacher, he said that major sites use many languages combined. And he said that a site shouldn't be designed only in PHP. So is it possible to create a good website, not e-commerce, with only html,css, and php?

  I have a client who is wanting to create a link which contains product codes so that his customers hit a page with just those products displayed in an attempt to increase conversion rates from affilliate sites. My question is whats the best way to send these multiple products in a single URL For example: http://www.mydomain.co.uk/bespoke-list.php?catNo=234-324-232-343 Obviously then the site would grab the codes from the string and display them... • Download file is blocked using WatiN even after modifying registry settings

  I'm doing an IE automation using WatiN. When a file to be downloaded is clicked, I get the following in the Internet Explorer Information bar: To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has blocked this site from downloading files to you computer. I added a registry key to, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\ then a REG_DWORD value named "http" with value==2 as given in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/972345/programmatically-add-trusted-sites-to-internet-explorer but still facing same issues. Can some1 advice on this....

  I would like to create a few static subdomains like: mycategory.mydomain.com in a rather small website and would like it to point to the folder: mydomain.com/mycategory without showing such redirection in browser address bar. • Drupal using Solr externally on another machine?

  I'd like to use the Drupal solr search module with the Apache Solr Search hosted on an external machine. I know that Acquia offer this as a service. But it's not an affordable option for me. I'd like to install Solr on an inexpensive VPS and have all my various Drupal sites which are on different hosts accessing the search functions. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

• Is there a free version control server provider for non-public projects?

  I'd like to have a version control server (preferably SVN) accessible on the internet without having to host my own (linux) server. Setting up a home server ala DynDNS is not really an option. • Is HTTP 404 appropriate for out of range page number on paged content?

  I have a site that is mainly showing a paged list of content (articles, data element's, etc.), and I'm wondering about returning HTTP 404 when user navigates outside of the available list range. Some sites just display "No results/Page number out of range" and some return additionally return HTTP 404 status. What's your take on that, and why? UPDATE It's not and api response. This question is in regard to user viewed pages that among other things show a list/table in the main area.

• Date format broken in .net 4.0 for uk format

  I'm in the process of converting a couple of sites up to .net 4.0 and I seem to have a problem with regionalisaion of dates. This code: Date.Today.AddDays((Date.Today.DayOfWeek - 1) * -1).ToString() In .net 3.5 produces: '19/04/2010 00:00:00' but as soon as I change the app pool to 4.0 it produces: '4/19/2010 12:00:00 AM' Where can I change the setting that governs this?

• SharePoint Navigation Custom Link Security Trimming

  Hi, We've got our navigation setup so that subsites show in the global navigation but we have a requirement to also put custom links to external sites which is straight forward. The tricky part is that some of the custom links need security trimming which you don't get when you add your own links to the navigation.
