  • Can one Python project use both 2.x and 3.x code?

    - by Begbie00
Hi all - I'm going to start on a long (~1-year) programming project in Python. I want to use wxPython for my GUI (supports 2.6), but I also want to use 3.1 for the rest of the project (to start using the 3.x syntax). Is there any way for me to design a project that mixes 2.x and 3.x modules? Or should I just bite the bullet and use either 2.x (preferred, since I really want to learn wxPython) or 3.x throughout? Thanks, Mike

  • What are all the instances of syntactic sugar in Scala?

    - by Jackson Davis
I decided to create this question to have a single source for all things syntactic sugar in Scala. I feel these details are some of the things most frustrating to starting users and are hard to search for since most/all of them are purely symbols and are thus hard to search for without knowing the name of the concept. TODO: implicit conversions _ syntax for anonymous functions Extractors(Unapply/UnapplySeq) Other things I'm forgetting

  • PHP include once.

    - by cpburns
    Is it more efficient to use PHP's include_once or require_once instead of using c-like include with a header guard? i.e, VERSUS //contents of init.php if (!defined('MY_INIT_PHP')) { define('MY_INIT_PHP', true); ... } ?

  • FullCalendar Events: Confused how to enable resizing.

    - by Josiah Kiehl
    I'm using the FullCalendar plugin, and am very pleased with it, however I can't figure out how to enable resizing. I looked at the source of the calendar on the main FullCalendar page, and my code is no different save that I get my events from a source rather than explicitly define them. What am I missing? $('#schedule').fullCalendar({ events: '/campaigns/scheduled', editable: true });

I am sure the syntax is right.

  • How to create a \newenvironment in latex for a scaled table

    - by markus
Hi, I try to define a table as a new environment. \newenvironment{scaledtable}[1]{% \begin{table}[h] \caption{xxx} \label{tab:xxx} \begin{center} \begin{tabular}{rcrrrrrrrrrrrrcc} }{ \hline \end{tabular} \end{center} \end{table}} The problem I have is that I can't use scalebox{}. If I put the closing bracket into the end definition of the environment, latex can't assign the brackets anymore. I also can not use PStricks because of pdflatex. /Markus

  • Datamapper, defining your own object methods, how?

    - by Dublinclontarf
So lets say I have a class like below class List include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :username, String def self.my_username return self[:username] end end list=List.create(:username=>,'jim') list.my_username When I run this it tells me that the method cannot be found, and on more investigation that you can only define class methods(not object methods) and that class methods don't have access to objects data. Is there any way to have these methods included as object methods and get access to object data? I'm using Ruby 1.8.6 and the latest version of datamapper.

  • Correct mapping for SHChangeNotify in JNA

    - by user389658
This is syntax for SHChangeNotify function from MSDN: void SHChangeNotify( LONG wEventId, UINT uFlags, __in_opt LPCVOID dwItem1, __in_opt LPCVOID dwItem2 ); I've to write its Java counterpart in Java Native Access [JNA], but this declaration seems to be wrong: public interface Shell32 extends com.sun.jna.platform.win32.Shell32 { public Shell32 INSTANCE = (Shell32) Native.loadLibrary(Shell32.class); void SHChangeNotify(long wEventId, int uFlags, Pointer dwItem1, Pointer dwItem2); } I got the following exception: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Error looking up function 'SHChangeNotify' Any idea how to write it correctly?

  • Pointless 'MIDL_INTERFACE' Macro in winapi?

    - by nebukadnezzar
After browsing some old code, I noticed that some classes are defined in this manner: MIDL_INTERFACE("XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX") Classname: public IUnknown { /* classmembers ... */ }; However, the macro MIDL_INTERFACE is defined as: #define MIDL_INTERFACE(x) struct in C:/MinGW/include/rpcndr.h (somewhere around line 17). The macro itself is rather obviously entirely pointless, so what's the true purpose of this macro?

  • What is your experience with Nitrogen on Erlang?

    - by Yuval A
I've been checking out the Nitrogen Project which is supposed to be the most mature web development framework for Erlang. Erlang, as a language, is extremely impressive. However, with regards to Nitrogen, what I am not too keen about is using Erlang's rather uncommon syntax (unless you're native in PROLOG) to build UIs. What is your experience with it as opposed to other mainstream web frameworks such as Django or Rails?

  • Why must recursion be in a separate file in hugs?

    - by Casebash
In Haskell in 5 steps the factorial function is defined as follows: let fac n = if n == 0 then 1 else n * fac (n-1) But for hugs, it says that fac needs to be in fac.h. Can anyone explain why this is the case - missing the ability to define recursion seems like a massive limitation for an interpreter.

  • Delphi interface cast using TValue

    - by conciliator
I've recently experimented extensively with interfaces and D2010 RTTI. I don't know at runtime the actual type of the interface; although I will have access to it's qualified name using a string. Consider the following: program rtti_sb_1; {$APPTYPE CONSOLE} uses SysUtils, Rtti, TypInfo, mynamespace in 'mynamespace.pas'; var ctx: TRttiContext; InterfaceType: TRttiType; Method: TRttiMethod; ActualParentInstance: IParent; ChildInterfaceValue: TValue; ParentInterfaceValue: TValue; begin ctx := TRttiContext.Create; // Instantiation ActualParentInstance := TChild.Create as IParent; {$define WORKAROUND} {$ifdef WORKAROUND} InterfaceType := ctx.GetType(TypeInfo(IParent)); InterfaceType := ctx.GetType(TypeInfo(IChild)); {$endif} // Fetch interface type InterfaceType := ctx.FindType('mynamespace.IParent'); // This cast is OK and ChildMethod is executed (ActualParentInstance as IChild).ChildMethod(100); // Create a TValue holding the interface TValue.Make(@ActualParentInstance, InterfaceType.Handle, ParentInterfaceValue); InterfaceType := ctx.FindType('mynamespace.IChild'); // This cast doesn't work if ParentInterfaceValue.TryCast(InterfaceType.Handle, ChildInterfaceValue) then begin Method := InterfaceType.GetMethod('ChildMethod'); if (Method <> nil) then begin Method.Invoke(ChildInterfaceValue, [100]); end; end; ReadLn; end. The contents of mynamespace.pas is as follows: {$M+} IParent = interface ['{2375F59E-D432-4D7D-8D62-768F4225FFD1}'] procedure ParentMethod(const Id: integer); end; {$M-} IChild = interface(IParent) ['{6F89487E-5BB7-42FC-A760-38DA2329E0C5}'] procedure ChildMethod(const Id: integer); end; TParent = class(TInterfacedObject, IParent) public procedure ParentMethod(const Id: integer); end; TChild = class(TParent, IChild) public procedure ChildMethod(const Id: integer); end; For completeness, the implementation goes as procedure TParent.ParentMethod(const Id: integer); begin WriteLn('ParentMethod executed. Id is ' + IntToStr(Id)); end; procedure TChild.ChildMethod(const Id: integer); begin WriteLn('ChildMethod executed. Id is ' + IntToStr(Id)); end; The reason for {$define WORKAROUND} may be found in this post. Question: is there any way for me to make the desired type cast using RTTI? In other words: is there a way for me to invoke IChild.ChildMethod from knowing 1) the qualified name of IChild as a string, and 2) a reference to the TChild instance as a IParent interface? (After all, the hard-coded cast works fine. Is this even possible?) Thanks!
