I don't understand the purpose of the WPF browser appliction. Is it simply another way of serving information through a browser, or is it not intended to be used for external deployment?
For an intranet application instead of using a proper web server, it has been planned to just deploy static html pages by sharing it over the network. This static html page is continously updated in the background by a program running on that PC and people access this html page by typing the shared file path directly in the browser. A maximum of 10 simultaneous users are expected to access it.
Can any one see the disadvantages or advantages in this type of deployment?
Has anyone played around with the architecture tools (uml diagrams, etc) in VS 2010 and if so what is your opinion? I really am liking Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect but am also curious about what is available in VS 2010. I'm not looking for responses about how much you hate Microsoft tools or love mircosoft tools, but more for answers about how useful VS2010 arc tools are for you.
I've install subversion, and want to write my own script to automate the web deployment.
Is it possible to trigger the script when commiting?
It's neither ssh nor apache based, only rely on svnserve.
Is it possible to use Enterprise Bean from JEE 5 server application in client application written in J2EE 1.4. What about difference in interfaces in this two technologies?
What is the best way to determine whether IIS is installed and the version if it is using MSBuild?
So far I can think of using either WMI or Registry but is there an existing task in the MS Community Task, MS Web Deployment or MSBuild Extension tasks which already does this?
While I can appreciate the point of the fine granularity in which you can enable security for every single little thing for each individual application in tomcat, in reality, it's an insane pain in the ass. Every single file, socket, everything for every single application.
Sure if you're writing a "hello world" application, it's not too much to ask, but an enterprise sized application? That's insane. Does anybody actually use it, or does everybody just say "*" for everything?
Do you ever use a separate table for "generating" artificial primary keys for DB (and why)? What I mean is to have a table with two columns, table name and current ID - with which you could get new "ID" for some table by simply locking the row with that table name, getting the current value of the key, increment it by one, and unlock the row. Why would you prefer this over standard integer identity column?
P.S. The "idea" is from Fowlers Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture, btw...
Objects oriented databases seem like a really cool idea to me, no need to worry about mapping your domain model to your database model, no messing around with sql or ORM tools. The way I understand it, relational DBs offer some advantages when there is massive amounts of data, and searching an indexing need to be done. To my mind 99% of websites are not massive, and enterprise issues never need to be thought about, so why arn't OO DBs more widely used?
I have created a new aspx page and deployed to Sharepoint successfully. For the moment, the path of the page is http://MySite/myCustomPage.aspx
How can I make the Path to something like `http://MySite/MyLib/AllForms/myCustomPage.aspx
I am using feature for deployment.
Thanks

I could set up the environment in my local host, But i have no choice like deploying my war file as its shared server, my admin ask me to extract the war file and upload through ftp. Now the problem is I am new to remote server. Please guide me with the remote environment file system and complete directory structure in remote tomcat. And how to use FTP for deployment ?
Thanks in advance

Hi
I wanna know when I leave empty element empty in my Deployment Descriptor file then it does not grant any role to access
But when do i need it DD where all the time anyone role must access my web page.
In which situation I do not need no role to be accessed?
Our logs show hundreds of these errors after our deployment if users are on the site. Anyone know what this means and how to fix it?
Notes:
We are using msdeploy, IIS 6
I recently noticed that our web server's time is about 10 minutes behind the real time, I think that may have something to do with it.
If I log into our site, seems like any file that depends on a WebResource or ScriptResource type file doesn't look right.
Seems to fix itself after an IIS reset
Considering the criteria listed below, which of Python, Groovy or Ruby would you use?

Richness of API/libraries available (eg. maths, plotting, networking) (9)
Ability to embed in desktop (java/c++) applications (8)
Ease of deployment (8)
Ability to interface with DLLs/Shared Libraries (7)
Ability to generate GUIs (7)
Community/User support (6)
Portability (6)
Database manipulation (3)
Language/Semantics (2)
I was wondering if somebody use syslog to log his web application errors/warning/info ? It could be quite useful in a deployment environment with a lot of servers.
If yes, what kind of client visualisation you can get to watch errors and grouping the same errors into batch?
Do you use other techniques than syslog to achieve this kind of logging functionality?
What is the most standard encryption technique used in sql server for asp.net c# enterprise level application? . i am talking with respect to standards like md5 or sh1 etc, hashing
We had a talk with colleagues about databases yesterday as we will have a DB2 education in few weeks. I'm wondering, what are the differences between DB2 and Oracle as two major enterprise solutions? Are there any limitations in comparison to each other? Are there any tasks more suitable for DB2 or Oracle?
(I found this article, but I somehow doubt it covers everything)
I have been searching for ages now for a good .Net based VoIP library.
After having tried conaito and SIP.Net I have still haven't found anything that truly fits my needs.
Basically all of these are constructed using ActiveX.
Unfortunately ActiveX and WPF don't play well together. And ClickOnce Deployment doesn't register Interop COM components.
I need to find a good, pure .Net managed code implementation.
I can't run a website application from VS 2008. When I press Ctrl + F5 i got an alert "unable connect to ASP.net Deployment server" (sp.) I'm using windows 2k3 sp2.
Thanks!
Hi there
We've been developing apps since .NET 2 release and not we are planning to upgrade to .NET 3.5. What is the best approach upgrading from .NET 2.00 to 3.5?
BTW ... the external components that we use are:
1. EntitySpace - ORM
2. Microsoft Enterprise Library
3. Microsoft ReportingViewer 9
I am appreciated your feedback.
I'm curious how far others have pushed Boost.Asio in terms of scalability. I am writing an application that may use close to 1000 socket objects, a handful of acceptor objects, and many thousand timer objects. I've configured it such that there's a thread pool invoking io_service::run and use strands in the appropriate places to ensure my handlers do not stomp on each other.
My platform is Red Hat Enterprise Linux with Boost 1.39, though I'm not opposed to upgrading to a more recent version of boost.
I have read about the Tuples provided with the coming-out of the new .NET Framework features, and still am I wondering about how it could be useful in real-world enterprise applications.
Can one give me a brief explanation along with a simple but real-world code sample?
Thanks! =)
Hi,
I have a Virtual Machine with MOSS 2007 (Enterprise), VS2008 and SQL 2005.
I want to start exploring 2010. I need to know what I need to get started.
Can I donwload 2010 beta from Microsoft Site? Can I just install it without any conflicts with existing setup?
Thanks.
