When I open firefox, it goes to what I closed it as.
I want it to open my home page and nothing else.
Not the stuff I closed it with.
How do I do that? thanks.
I'm trying to get an idea of where the bottlenecks are in our backup system. Are there tools available for profiling this? If not, any pointers to a home grown method would also help.
I guess most of the info would be in the bacula logs, but I'd also like to see things like what gets saturated during despooling: disk, CPU or network?
This feels like a problem most bacula admins would have encountered.
I'm looking for a very good example of a very poorly designed web site. For example: use of <blink> mixed with many 'cute' animated GIFs (a common home page in the mid-'90s).
It needs to display relatively correctly in the popular web browsers of today.
Thank you!
I am trying to get a simple script to run automatically at startup. A friend told me to do this but it did not work. Could someone take a look to see what it is missing?
*(Also I am brand new to linux, so this is pretty foreign to me)
Here is what I was told to do:
In terminal
sudo nano /etc/init.d/obabp.sh
Then enter this text:
#!/bin/bash
sudo python /home/pi/gits/RPi-OBABP/src/obabp.py
save file and then
$ sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/obabp.sh
$ sudo shutdown -r now
We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.
When at home I use my laptop via remote desktop. Opening the lid just to get the laptop to power on is a PITA and is probably affecting my hinge durability.
Is there a way to power on a laptop with the lid closed?
Asus R1f's don't have docking stations.
I am using a computer previously used by someone else. I logged in to Lotus Notes under my .nsf file, but I'm getting many errors. It seems Notes is trying to access the previous user's data still, in many different places. The Mail button on the home page tries to go to the previous user's inbox, and some settings are inaccessible.
What can I do to make a clean break from the previous user's settings?
Ive have the Nokia N900 mobile phone (running Maemo linux), and my device is really slow while using the wifi and trying to get stuff online (checking mail, loading pages). The webbrowsers itself (MicroB, Firefox, Opera) starts fast.
Yesterday ive tried to set the dns to googles but that did not solve the case.
Is there, and how do i check/verify my connection to the internet if im connected to my home wifi in linux? (tools, other then ping :D)
Hi, I have a small home network with the router capable of running OpenWRT, is there some utility or firewall rule, which can be used to Wake On LAN on request. What I think - if I want to access my media centre (using for example SSH or HTTP) and it is suspended, is it possible to catch the ICMP packet (saying the machine is offline) and send the WOL packet to wakeup the machine and resend the SSH or HTTP request? Thanks
I have a small media server at home which has software raid and a gigabit link to the rest of my network.
For some reason though, I only get ~10MB/s transfers when copying to/from the server.
How can I benchmark network throughput (Windows 7 desktop <- Ubuntu server) and hard disk performance to try and identify where my bottleneck might be?
Tried using direct connection using Ethernet cable and using windows easy transfer, but no luck, also tried using ad-hoc, home group, and connecting through a router both wired and wireless but no luck, im getting a little frustrated as I need to transfer these files because im selling one of them this afternoon!
All I need to do is transfer some documents and files.
The windows 7 pc recognizes the vista pc but vista cant recognize the win 7.
I just edited the htaccess file to include:
AuthType Basic
AuthName "My Protected Area"
AuthUserFile /home/path/to/public_html/
Require valid-user
I then created a htpasswd file via the htpasswd command. I have enabled the module: LoadModule authn_file_module modules/mod_authn_file.so in the Apache configuration.
Now, when I load the page I now get a 500 error and apache log says "configuration error: couldn't check user. No user file?: /"
i have Mac OS SL installed on intel machine. My shortcut keys for Home, End, Copy, Paste and Undo are not working.

I have a Windows desktop, Macbook and PS3 all connected to my home router and working properly. If I use my Macbook to connect to the office VPN, will my Windows desktop and PS3 also be on the VPN by default?
Hi All
Following are the contents of a sample boot.ini:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT
rdisk value tells the physical disk number.
so, if i have three hard disks say:
/dev/sda
/dev/sdb
/dev/sdc
than how to know which disk(/dev/sda or /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc) is rdisk(0) and which disk is rdisk(1) etc
Regards,
Hi Everyone
Hope you can help me, up until last night all sites on my server were displaying fine but now whenever you visit any of them you get the default - "Welcome to Your New Home in Cyberspace!" page - all the domains are setup right, have been working and were working until last night and i haven't edited any of the apache files so i really can't see why they have broken, i am using Debian and all the sites have been activated
Really hope someone can help me
David
Hi All,
Ive been poking around some of folders on my windows 7 home premium install, and ive noticed in AppData i now have 3 folders, Local, LocalLow and Roaming. I was wondering what the difference between all of these three folders is?
Thanks
My church uses ProPresenter for our Sunday morning presntations. Unfortunately, I get the ProPresenter decks from the minister and worship leader midway through the week and have no way to read them at home on my PC. It would be easier if I could set things up and edit them (or at least have an idea of what's in the deck) before Sunday morning.
I know ProPresenter can import from PowerPoint, but can the import go the other way as well? Is there a way to read ProPresenter files (.prox) without ProPresenter?
I have a machine that currently has Windows Vista living peacefully with Ubuntu 10.04 but I would like to test out another distro outside of a virtual machine without destroying my current Ubuntu or Windows installs. Is this possible? If so, any recommendations on how to arrange the partitions? I was thinking of moving user home areas to a separate partition and having 1 partition for all Ubuntu files and 1 for all files associated with the other distro.
I am running ubuntu on various computers on a home network. Some are on 9.04x64, some 10.04x64 and one 9.04x32.
Running scp with a large file starts out at 2.1 mbps and drops down to about 200k, stalling and dropping until the transfer is complete. I've noticed this when I have a secure shell open on any of these servers as well.
I have tried this with 2 different routers, both brand new, different brands.
When I'm specifying an argument for make like PREFIX_PATH=/some/path/to/prefix/ I sometimes experience very slow completion for my directories (a few seconds). It's annoying when I've got several variables to specify.
To get around the problem I've been typing out the variables first to get regular completion speed, then hitting home' to insertmake` that the start of my command line. What is happening and how can I fix it?
Instead of sending my friend 3 Win 7 DVDs, is it enough just to send 1 DVD and then email 3 product keys? Also, would a Win 7 Professional product key work if the DVD was for Home Premium?
This is just a general question. I started working from home a few months ago and i find the hardest part is trying to keep track of what I'm working on and how much time was spent. I do both programming and network admin work. Is there any software packages (free) out there that some of you use?
I was wondering how to search keyword with some special characters in Google?
Special character such as ".", "&", "$", "/",....
For example, I would like to search the whole "$HOME/.gnome".
Thanks and regards!
I'm logging into my home computer (Ubuntu 10.04) via ssh, and now I want to open a remote connection (one that is stored in my bookmarks).
Nautilus tells me "Nautilus cannot handle "sftp" locations via x11".
Why might this be?
