  • Simple Java math operations

    I'm making a BMI calculator that doesn't seem to be working. The math operations work if i just do something like w/h, but once i had the brackets, it returns an error. If i change the variables w and h and use a constant number, the operation works. Another problem is that although i'm making result a double, it seems to be rounding to the nearest int.   • Testing a SQL Query for True or False

    $sql = "SELECT # FROM users WHERE onduty = 1 AND loc_id = '{$site}';"; $result = mysql_query($sql); I simply want to test if this is true or false. If it returns 0 rows, I want next line to be something like: if (!$result) { //do this; } However, in my test, I am getting false when I know it should be true. Is this sound logic here? (note, yes I know I should be using mysqli_query, that is not what I am asking here)

  • What's the most auditable way to organize database maintenance scripting/scheduling?

    I'm using PHP, Oracle and crontab. Crontab is invoking a php script, which is going to synchronize some data between a local and remote database. First I thought about putting this all in one large, anonymous inline PL/SQL block and executing it in PHP. The problem is that without creating a table to audit the procedure it's really opaque to my PHP code until it returns. And then when it does return, the best I can do is receive a string in an out parameter which I've concatenated together as an audit log. Then I considered breaking it up into several SQL statements and have PHP do some intermediate auditing/logging and manipulation of the data between each of them. I'm not really satisfied with either of these. How do you organize maintenance code that is called in a cronjob?

  • Which SharePoint Authentication Mode Should I be using for this scenario?

    I currently have a sharepoint 2010 site for which NTLM windows authentication has been enabled (by default it is against Active Directory I believe). I'd need to change this so that I have 1 custom login page which accepts username/password/domain and validates those information against the active directory, then if that was valid, I'll write logic to logon to another webservice which is located on another server and returns me a unique sessionId that I can store (as a cookie) for further use. Please could you advise which authentication mode I can use to create this custom login page? should that be FBA against AD? not sure how that works. Thanks in advance.

    hi i am trying to use nsuser defaults to save some default values in database. I am able to save the values in the nsuserdefault(even checked it in nslog). Now i need the values in app delegate when the application is restarted. But i am not getting anything in the nsuserdefault. Scenario: I have a REST API and when i call it, it returns back response in JSON format. Is this correct? or should I just throw an exception if the key does not exist? how should i throw an exception for this situation?

    Ok I feel really dumb asking this but I seem to be missing something really simple here. I have the following code in a class in my service layer - public Items getItems(String category, float amount, String color, String type) The code reads from a database and returns the results - I plan on placing it in a jframe. Nice and simple. But no matter how I call it from the jframe I get errors in eclipse that the code is wrong - either that their are illegal modifiers or such. So obviously I am calling it completely wrong, so my stupid question is how do you call that method into a jframe? For example - if I try to call it this way: public Items getItems(); I get told that getItems is an illegal parameter. If I call this.. Items getItems(); I am told its undefined

  • Is it good practice to export variables in Perl?

    I'm finding it very convenient to pass configuration and other data that is read or calculated once but then used many times throughout a program by using Perl's use mechanism. I'm doing this by exporting a hash into the caller's namespace. For example: package Myconfiguration; my %config; sub import { my $callpkg = caller(0); my $expsym = $_[1]; configure() unless %config; *{"$callpkg\::$expsym"} = \%config; } and then in other modules: use MyConfiguration (loc_config_sym); if ( $loc_config_sym{paramater} ) { # ... do stuff ... } However, I'm not sure about this as a best practice. Is it better to add a method that returns a hash ref with the data? Something else?

The disk activity shows about 700 KB/s writing. While having a look at the folder that contains the sqlite database file the "-journal" file appears and disappears, appears and disappears, ...     I have a voting script which stores the post_id and the user_id in a table, to determine whether a particular user has already voted on a post and disallow them in the future. To do that, I am doing the following 3 queries. SELECT user_id, post_id from votes_table where postid=? AND user_id=? If that returns no rows, then: UPDATE post_table set votecount = votecount-1 where post_id = ? Then SELECT votecount from post where post_id=? To display the new votecount on the web page Any better way to do this? 3 queries are seriously slowing down the user's voting experience

  • Some way of getting just the data part from a web service returning a DataTable?

    I'm using an external web service that returns a DataTable. There's a couple of problems with this. The first is that there are over 20,000 columns, and .Net crashes when trying to convert the xml to a DataTable. I have to use Mono to make this work. The other problem is that it takes a lot of time to fetch all the column information. The columns "never" changes (and when they do, I know about it in advance). I would like to just fetch the data part, and load the schema from a local file. I very much doubt this is possible, but I thought I could ask here just in case.

    I am trying to create a method in which I can exequte mysql UPDATE, DELETE or INSERT query. The method must work when with an INSERT I ask or do not ask the last_insert_id().   • How to print a variable in reversed byte order in Perl?

    Hi, I'am trying to convert the variable $num into its reverse byte order and print it out. This is what I have done so far: my $num=0x5514ddb7; my $s=pack('I!',$num); print "$s\n"; He prints it out as some non-printable characters and in a hex editor it looks right, but how can I get it readable on the console? Already tried print sprintf("%#x\n",$s); but he complains about an non-numeric argument, so I think pack returns a string. Any ideas how can I print out `0xb7dd1455 on the console, based on $num?

    Is it possible to write a linq-to-sql statement that will return two different COUNTs that have been put into a single dataset using UNION ALL? I know this is syntactically wrong but here's what I'm trying to do: (from t1 in TableOne select t1).Count().Union( (from t2 in TableTwo select t2).Count() ) Here's the sql I would like would like to have generated: select count(*) from TableOne union all select count(*) from TableTwo I realize that Count() returns an int and does not have a Union method on it and therein lies my question. Can Linq-to-Sql be written that will achieve what I'm after?

    I am currently porting some Windows mobile C++ code to standard C++. So I am trying to find alternatives for windows specific functions. I have had very little luck in finding a standard C++ function that can help me replace the WSAGetLastError() windows specific function. WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++? A way to get different error numbers for different outcomes of connecting/dissconection a socket would be sufficent.

    Hi Say I have a model Taggable has_many tags, how may I find all taggables by their associated tag's taggable_id field? Taggable.find(:all, :joins => :tags, :conditions => {:tags => {:taggable_id => [1,2,3]}}) results in this: SELECT `taggables`.* FROM `taggables` INNER JOIN `tags` ON tags.taggable_id = taggables.id WHERE (`tag`.`taggable_id` IN (1,2,3)) The syntax is incredible but does not fit my needs in that the resulting sql returns any taggable that has any, some or all of the tags. How can I find taggables with related tags of field taggable_id valued 1, 2 and 3? Thanks for any advice. :)

What I have planned so far is to get a str[], remove all $'s and spaces, and store this in another string which is returned later: char *getstring(char str[]) { int i=0; char rtn[255]; while (i<strlen(str)) { if (str[i] != " " || str[i] != "$" ) rtn[i] = str[i]; else rtn[i] = ''; } return str; } I dont feel like this will work.   • How can I delete a file in Sinatra after it has been sent via send_file?

    I have a simple sinatra application that needs to generate a file (via an external process), send that file to the browser, and finally, delete the file from the filesystem. Something along these lines: class MyApp < Sinatra::Base get '/generate-file' do # calls out to an external process, # and returns the path to the generated file file_path = generate_the_file() # send the file to the browser send_file(file_path) # remove the generated file, so we don't # completely fill up the filesystem. File.delete(file_path) # File.delete is never called. end end It seems, however, that the send_file call completes the request, and any code after it does not get run. Is there some way to ensure that the generated file is cleaned up after it has been successfully sent to the browser? Or will I need to resort to a cron job running a cleanup script on some interval?

    I am using a function that returns a char*, and right now I am getting the compiler warning "returning address of local variable or temporary", so I guess I will have to use a static var for the return, my question is can I make something like if(var already set) return var else do function and return var? And should I use ZeroMemory(&buf, 20*sizeof(char))? I removed it because if I use it above the if(strlen...) my TCHAR length is never 0, should I use it below?
