  • Solr error; JNDI not configured for solr; Anybody know what this means?

    - by Camran
I am installing solr on my VPS (Ubuntu 9.10) via PuTTY. First, I thought about installing Solr with Tomcat, but then after installing tomcat, I changed my mind and went for the Jetty which comes with Solr. Now that I have setup everything on my Server, and try to start the "start.jar" file, I get some errors... Here is some text from the log file: 2010-05-29 00:22:42.074::INFO: jetty-6.1.3 2010-05-29 00:22:42.134::INFO: Extract jar:file:/var/www/webapps/solr.war!/ to /var/www/work/Jetty_0_0_0_0_8983_solr.war__solr__k1kf17/webapp May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader locateSolrHome INFO: JNDI not configured for solr (NoInitialContextEx) May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader locateSolrHome INFO: solr home defaulted to 'solr/' (could not find system property or JNDI) May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader <init> INFO: Solr home set to 'solr/' May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.servlet.SolrDispatchFilter init INFO: SolrDispatchFilter.init() May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader locateSolrHome INFO: JNDI not configured for solr (NoInitialContextEx) May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader locateSolrHome INFO: solr home defaulted to 'solr/' (could not find system property or JNDI) May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.CoreContainer$Initializer initialize INFO: looking for solr.xml: /var/www/solr/solr.xml May 29, 2010 12:22:42 AM org.apache.solr.core.SolrResourceLoader <init> INFO: Solr home set to 'solr/' Anybody know what this is? • localhost won't load after adding config data to httpd

    - by OldWest
I am not very experienced with configuring httpd, and I am following a tutorial to view my site w/ domain name under localhost. My localhost just blanks out and my apache services won't restart. I checked all of my paths and they are correct. I am editing the w*indows/system32/drivers/etc/host*s file and my apache httpd file. This is what I am putting in my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 www.cars_v1.0.com.localhost And in the footer of my httpd file I am putting this: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80> ServerName www.cars_v1.0.com.localhost DocumentRoot "C:\wamp\www\symfony\cars_v1.0\web" DirectoryIndex index.php <Directory "C:\wamp\www\symfony\cars_v1.0\web"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> Alias /sf C:\wamp\www\symfony\cars_v1.0\lib\vendor\symfony-1.4.8\data\web\sf <Directory "C:\wamp\www\symfony\cars_v1.0\lib\vendor\symfony-1.4.8\data\web\sf"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost>

  • A complicated nginx/php-fpm chroot setup

    - by Rsaesha
I'm running nginx and php-fpm, and I want to set up jails for each host. My setup is a little complicated, so following tutorials on the web gets me nowhere. Each site has a directory /var/www/domain.name/ Inside that directory, there will be a public/ directory which will be the website root, a logs/ directory which will store nginx logs for that site specifically, and the chroot filesystem (etc/, usr/, etc.) The first problem I've run into is that nomatter how I configure it, PHP-FPM cannot find the files that are passed to it via nginx. They result in a "Primary script unknown" error, and to make matters worse, the error messages from PHP-FPM are no more verbose than that, so I can't figure out what path is being passed by nginx. A php-fpm pool configuration for a host looks like this: [host] user = host group = www-data chroot = /var/www/domain.name chdir = /public listen = 127.0.0.1:900x 'x' is incremented for each pool. The nginx config for this host looks like this: server { listen 80; server_name domain.name *.domain.name; root /var/www/domain.name/public; index index.php index.html index.html; location ~ \.php$ { expires epoch; fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+\.php)(/.+)$; include fastcgi_params; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9001; } } I'm guessing that the problem is the SCRIPT_FILENAME parameter, but I've changed it to just $fastcgi_script_name, and various other combinations, but to no avail. Can anyone help?

  • Apache + mod_fcgid + perl = error 500

    - by f-aminov
Hi guys! I'm trying to setup Apache2.2 with mod_fcgid and libapache2-mod-perl2 with no luck. I've created a fcgi-bin directory in the root directory of my website and put there a test.fcgi file with the following content: #!/usr/bin/perl use CGI; print "This is test.fcgi!\n"; While trying to access it via http://www.website.dom/fcgi-bin/test.fcgi I get error 500 (Internal Server Error). Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • Proftpd on Debian ignoring umask setting

    - by sodan
I have found a solution for my problem. This is what I did: I added the following to my /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf: <Limit SITE_CHMOD> DenyAll </Limit> I have the following problem: When I upload files to my FTP server the umask I set is totally ignored. All files have permissions 644. I use Debian 5.0.3 as operating system and proftpd 1.3.1 as ftp server. The user logging in is called mug and he is a local user (no virtual user). He is chrooted to the home directory /home/mug/ I tried the following things: 1. set umask setting in /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf Umask 000 000 This should result in 777 for directories and 666 for files since directory umask is applied to 777 and file umask is applied to 666. After that I of course restarted the proftpd to be sure that the config is reloaded. 2. set umask for the user in /home/mug/.bashrc I added the following to the .bashrc for the user: umask 0000 After that I reloaded the .bashrc: source /home/mug/.bashrc I also checked the umask setting for the user by changing to the user and using this command: su mug umask As result I got a umask of 0000 prompted. So this worked. But still all my uploaded files are having 644 permissions set :( What am I doing wrong?

  • How to fix locale settings in Debian squeeze

    - by blogjunkie
I occasionally get locale errors and I've tried to run dpkg-reconfigure locales to fix the problem. Here's the output: :~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LC_CTYPE = "UTF-8", LANG = "en_US.UTF-8" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory /usr/bin/locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory /usr/bin/locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory Generating locales (this might take a while)... en_US.UTF-8... done Generation complete. perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LC_CTYPE = "UTF-8", LANG = "C" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). perl: warning: Setting locale failed. perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings: LANGUAGE = (unset), LC_ALL = (unset), LC_CTYPE = "UTF-8", LANG = "C" are supported and installed on your system. perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C"). I looked for /usr/bin/locale but it doesn't exist on my system. Do I need to create it? What do I put in there? Also I found a related question that says the cause of his problem was in the sshd_config file. The file had the following entry: AcceptEnv LANG LC_* I'm mainly concerned that it may cause problems for my VPS, otherwise if it's nothing major I'll be happy to ignore the problem. What should I do? thanks!

  • glib2 64-bit compile fails on Solaris 10

    - by Aaron
I'm encountering a problem building glib-2.26.1 on a Solaris 10 box - 64-bit. Goo diligence doesn't turn anything up, but no matter what I do the build fails in the same way. I've tried using the Sun Studio compiler, gcc (SFW) to no avail. When I compile I get the following error: [root@foo glib-2.26.1]$ export CC=/opt/solstudio12.2/bin/cc [root@foo glib-2.26.1]$ export CFLAGS="-m64" ...configure goes normally... • Best Practical RT, sorting email into queues automatically using procmail

    - by user52095
I'm trying to get incoming e-mail to automatically go directly into whichever queue/ticket they are related to or create a new one if none exist and the right queue e-mail setup in the web interface is used. I will have too many queues to have two line items within mailgate per queue. A similar issue was discussed here (http://serverfault.com/questions/104779/procmail-pipe-to-program-otherwise-return-error-to-sender), but I thought it best to open a new case instead of tagging on what appeared to be an answer to that person's query. I'm able to send and receive e-mail (via PostFix) to the default rt user and this user successfully accepts all e-mail for the relative domain. I have no idea where the e-mail goes - it's successfully delivered, but it does not update existing tickets (with a Subject line match) and it does not create any new. Here's and example of my ./procmail.log: procmail: [23048] Mon Aug 23 14:26:01 2010 procmail: Assigning "MAILDOMAIN=rt.mydomain.com " procmail: Assigning "RT_MAILGATE=/opt/rt3/bin/rt-mailgate " procmail: Assigning "RT_URL=http://rt.mydomain.com/ " procmail: Assigning "LOGABSTRACT=all " procmail: Skipped " " procmail: Skipped " " procmail: Assigning "LASTFOLDER={ " procmail: Opening "{ " procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock procmail: Notified comsat: "rt@18337:./{ " From [email protected] Mon Aug 23 14:26:01 2010 Subject: RE: [RT.mydomain.com #1] Test Ticket Folder: { 1616 Does the notified comsat portion mean that it notified RT? • Apache 403 Forbidden Error when accessing local web server using local IP address

    - by amjo324
I have an odd problem when attempting to browse to pages stored on a local web server (Apache 2.2). The pages are served as expected when I browse to localhost or 127.0.0.1 on port 80. Yet when I attempt to browse to the same pages by referencing the local IP address (192.168.x.x), I receive a HTTP 403 (Forbidden) error. In essence, http://localhost:80 works but 192.168.x.x:80 doesn't even though I'm specifying the IP of the local machine. You may be thinking "who cares? just use localhost". However, this is the first step in troubleshooting why I cannot remotely access these pages from different hosts on my LAN. I'm presuming this can't be a firewall issue as I'm only connecting to the local machine. Even so, I verified there was no iptables rules that could be having an effect. I've checked the Apache error logs and the corresponding line of relevance is: [Sat Oct 19 07:38:35 2013] [error] [client 192.168.x.x] client denied by server configuration: /var/www/ I've inspected most of the apache config files and they don't appear to differ from what you would expect with a default install. I can't see anything in apache2.conf that would be a problem and httpd.conf is an empty file. This is an excerpt from /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /var/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> Any insight as to where I can look next to find a solution ? Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 - Windows XP - sharing - why isn't working?

    - by durumdara
Hi! This is seems to be "hardware" and not "software" / "programming" question, but I need to use this share in my programs, so it is "close to programming". We had an XP based wireless network. The server is XP Professional, the clients are XP Home (Notebooks). This was working well with folder sharing (with user rights, not simple share). Then we replaced the one of the notebook with Win7/X64 notebook. First time this can reach the server, and the another client too. Later I went to another sites, and connect to another servers, another networks. And then, when I return to this network, I saw that I cannot connect to this server. Nothing of resources I see, and when try to dbl click on this computer, I got login window, where I can write anything, never I can login... The interesting part, that: Another XP home can see the server, can login as quest, or with other user. The server can see the XP home notebook. The Win7 can see the notebook's shared folders, and XP home can see the Win7 shared folders. The server can see the Win7 folders, BUT: the Win7 cannot see the server folders. Cannot see the resources too... The Win7 is in "work networking group", the group name is not mshome. I tried everything on the server, I tried to remove MS client, restore it with simple sharing, set guest password, etc., but I lost the possibilities to access this server from Win7. Does anyone have any idea what I need to see, what I need to set to access these resource - to use them in my programs? Thanks for every info, link: dd

  • Problem using a public key when connecting to a SSH server running on Cygwin

    - by Deleted
We have installed Cygwin on a Windows Server 2008 Standard server and it working pretty well. Unfortunately we still have a big problem. We want to connect using a public key through SSH which doesn't work. It always falls back to using password login. We have appended our public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server and we have our private and public key in ~/.ssh/id_dsa respective ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub on the client. When debugging the SSH login session we see that the key is offered by the server apparently rejects it by some unknown reason. The SSH output when connecting from an Ubuntu 9.10 desktop with debug information enabled: $ ssh -v 192.168.10.11 OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 debug1: Reading • apache permission errors

    - by Wilduck
I'm trying to set up Apache on a arch-linux box as a testing environment (I'm only using the localhost, not trying to serve anything to the greater web). When setting up Django with mod_wsgi, it recommended that I set up a WSGIScriptAlias from / to /usr/local/django/mysite/apache/django.wsgi . I've done this, as well as added the /usr/.../apache directory to my httpd.conf. When I try to access http://localhost I get a 403 forbidden error. I have no idea why this is happening. Things I've tried so far: 1) chown -R http .../apache 2) chmod -R 777 .../apache 3) using a simple Alias directive to host a static file from that directory. None of these have worked. I'm at a loss for what I'm doing wrong. Below is a relevant excerpt from my httpd.conf: Alias / /usr/local/django/mysite/apache <Directory "/usr/local/django/mysite/apache"> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Directory> So my question is: what am I doing wrong?

  • samba sync password with unix password on debian wheezy

    - by Oz123
I installed samba on my server and I am trying to write a script to spare me the two steps to add user, e.g.: adduser username smbpasswd -a username My smb.conf states: # This boolean parameter controls whether Samba attempts to sync the Unix # password with the SMB password when the encrypted SMB password in the # passdb is changed. unix password sync = yes Further reading brought me to pdbedit man page which states: -a This option is used to add a user into the database. This com- mand needs a user name specified with the -u switch. When adding a new user, pdbedit will also ask for the password to be used. Example: pdbedit -a -u sorce new password: retype new password Note pdbedit does not call the unix password syncronisation script if unix password sync has been set. It only updates the data in the Samba user database. If you wish to add a user and synchronise the password that im- mediately, use smbpasswd’s -a option. So... now I decided to try adding a user with smbpasswd: 1st try, unix user still does not exist: root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# smbpasswd -a newuser New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Failed to add entry for user newuser. 2nd try, unix user exists: root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# useradd mag root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# smbpasswd -a mag New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Added user mag. # switch to user pi, and try to switch to mag root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# su pi pi@raspberrypi ~ $ su mag Password: su: Authentication failure So, now I am asking myself: how do I make samba passwords sync with unix passwords? where are samba passwords stored? Can someone help enlighten me?

  • Permissions on mac for itunes library with multiple users - idea

    - by John
I currently have a lot of music on an external drive and my itunes set up from there. However, periodically, when the external drive isn't connected, itunes will default back to the library location of my home directory user path. I don't want to mess with an external drive, as my mac HD is large enough to house the music collection. However, I have 4 family members - all with their own logins - using this same gob of music. I don't want 4 copies of the library, only one with all libraries referencing it. So, what I want to do is: 1 - move all music files to a shared directory at /Macintosh HD/users/music. I created this directory and adjusted permissions, so all four users can read and write to this directory. 2 - get all four accounts to reference this library instead of the external or local home locations I am hoping I can just check the box to keep library organized in my account, which is the admin and let itunes move it all. Then delete current libraries for each account and re-add from the new shared location. Will the itunes organization process cause permissions issues either by setting permissions to all the files access to my account only or write permissions or any other 'gotcha'? I am having a hard time coming up with a smooth solution that won't break everything and cause me to have mega duplicates or access issues. I would prefer not to do any xml library file editing if possible. Am I dreaming? Thanks for help.

  • Hostname and SSL (apache) issue on Debian

    - by user105566
I have been trying to setup SSL virtual host ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName moclm.tap.pt DocumentRoot /var/www/tapme/ <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny, allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 ::1/128 </Directory> <Directory /var/www/tapme/> Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All #Order allow, deny #allow from all </Directory> SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/ssl/moclm.cer SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/moclm.pem </VirtualHost> For some reason, the server automatically redirect to SSL (http:// to https://). The apache is not configured to redirect and application was working fine on port 80 only. I have no knowledge how the internal network works as i am working remotely. The SSL error logs show: [Tue Oct 02 22:40:32 2012] [error] Hostname linemnt01.tap.pt provided via SNI and hostname moclm.tap.pt provided via HTTP are different I thought may be the hostname has some issue and have changed the hostname of the server from "linemnt01.tap.pt" to "moclm.tap.pt" but the issue is still there. I am getting the following error on browser: Bad Request Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand. i have /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost moclm.tap.pt moclm and openssl returns: openssl verify -CAfile cert-CA.cer moclm.cer moclm.tap.pt.cer: OK I have been trying to troubleshoot the issue but no luck. Need help Thanks

  • Apache directive for authenticated users?

    - by Alex Leach
Using Apache 2.2, I would like to use mod_rewrite to redirect un-authenticated users to use https, if they are on http.. Is there a directive or condition one can test for whether a user is (not) authenticated? For example, I could have set up the restricted /foo location on my server:- <Location "/foo/"> Order deny, allow # Deny everyone, until authenticated... Deny from all # Authentication mechanism AuthType Basic AuthName "Members only" # AuthBasicProvider ... # ... Other authentication stuff here. # Users must be valid. Require valid-user # Logged-in users authorised to view child URLs: Satisfy any # If not SSL, respond with HTTP-redirect RewriteCond ${HTTPS} off RewriteRule /foo/?(.*)$ https://${SERVER_NAME}/foo/$2 [R=301,L] # SSL enforcement. SSLOptions FakeBasicAuth StrictRequire SSLRequireSSL SSLRequire %{SSL_CIPHER_USEKEYSIZE} >= 128 </Location> The problem here is that every file, in every subfolder, will be encrypted. This is quite unnecessary, but I see no reason to disallow it. What I would like is the RewriteRule to only be triggered during authentication. If a user is already authorised to view a folder, then I don't want the RewriteRule to be triggered. Is this possible? EDIT: I am not using any front-end HTML here. This is only using Apache's built-in directory browsing interface and its in-built authentication mechanisms. My <Directory> config is: <Directory ~ "/foo/"> Order allow, deny Allow from all AllowOverride None Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks +Includes +MultiViews IndexOptions +FancyIndexing IndexOptions +XHTML IndexOptions NameWidth=* IndexOptions +TrackModified IndexOptions +SuppressHTMLPreamble IndexOptions +FoldersFirst IndexOptions +IgnoreCase IndexOptions Type=text/html </Directory>

  • Problem using a public key when connecting to a SSH server running on Cygwin

    - by binary255
We have installed Cygwin on a Windows Server 2008 Standard server and it working pretty well. Unfortunately we still have a big problem. We want to connect using a public key through SSH which doesn't work. It always falls back to using password login. We have appended our public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server and we have our private and public key in ~/.ssh/id_dsa respective ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub on the client. When debugging the SSH login session we see that the key is offered by the server apparently rejects it by some unknown reason. The SSH output when connecting from an Ubuntu 9.10 desktop with debug information enabled: $ ssh -v 192.168.10.11 OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 debug1: Reading • Why does just splitting an Ethernet cable not work?

    - by Sin Jeong-hun
I thought the Ethernet is logically a one-line communication bus (for argument's sake, I am excluding hubs). All machines attached on the bus hears the same signals and the machines themselves try to avoid collisions by randomly backing off. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/ethernet6.htm If so, why would splitting one Ethernet line from my home router into two and connecting two computers not work? Why do I have to add a switch to it? *What the Internet said would not work. [4 port home router] ------[one Ethernet cable]-----[simple splitter]======[two computers] *What the Internet said I should do [4 port home router] ------[one Ethernet cable]-----[switch]======[two computers] Is this because of the signal degradation (reduced electric current)? Thank you for all the answers! The reason why I did not just use the two ports of my home router is... The 4-port gigabit router is in my room, and I had put a computer in another room (also my room, though). Since a wired network is far more reliable and secure, I had bought a long Ethernet cable and and connected the computer to the router. Now I was thinking about adding another computer to that room. I could buy another long Ethernet cable, but then there will be two cables between the rooms. The one line already is a minor annoyance, so I thought if I could share the one line between the two computers in that room. A switch would work, but it requires power and is a little bit pricey. That is why I wondered why it would not work to simply split the physical Ethernet cable. Apparently I do not completely understand how Ethernet and a switch work. I just have some bit of knowledge I heard in my college class.

  • Setting up subdomain to respond on :443 with apache2

    - by compucuke
I read through some guides on this and I believe it is possible to have apache respond to a subdomain through ssl. I have domain.com responding on 80 and I do not need domain.com responding on 443. Rather, the only use I have for ssl is for the subdomain sub.domain.com. So my site should be http://domain.com http://www.domain.com https://sub.domain.com https://www.sub.domain.com My CNAME records are as follows sub.domain.com xxx.xx.xx.xxx *.sub.domain.com xxx.xx.xx.xxx The A record exists but should not matter for the example. I set up a separate config file in sites-enabled for sub.domain.com NameVirtualHost xxx.xx.xx.xxx:443 <VirtualHost xxx.xx.xx.xxx:443> SSLEngine on SSLStrictSNIVHostCheck on SSLProtocol -ALL +SSLv3 +TLSv1 SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!ADH:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:-MEDIUM ServerAlias sub.domain.com DocumentRoot /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/ SSLCertificateFile /root/sub.domain.com.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /root/sub.domain.com.key Alias /robots.txt /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/robots.txt Alias /favicon.ico /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/favicon.ico Alias /js/libs /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/js/libs Alias /media/ /usr/local/www/documents/media/ Alias /img/ /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/img/ Alias /css/ /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/css/ <Directory /usr/local/www/ssl/documents/> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> WSGIDaemonProcess sub.domain.com processes=2 threads=7 display-name=%{GROUP} WSGIProcessGroup sub.domain.com WSGIScriptAlias / /usr/local/www/wsgi-scripts/script.wsgi <Directory /usr/local/www/wsgi-scripts> Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Now, it is important to mention that https://domain.com responds with what I have running from script.wsgi above instead of on https://sub.domain.com. It does not respond to sub.domain.com. checking https://sub.domain.com causes a 105 error. This is a DNS error but I am convinced the DNS does not have a problem with the CNAME records, they just point to my IP. Am I doing something that Apache can not do?

  • Using a Linksys Wireless- G Broadband Router for a Wireless Antenna/Adapter?

    - by Alex
(Warning: I'm not too computer-smart). Just moved fm a home where I used ATT DSL to a home w/ Comcast Cable for internet. Old home had the DSL ethernet wired to my only desktop w/ a 2Wire router for my wireless signal for the laptops. In the new home the signal comes fm cable via a Netgear(300) wireless router (remotely located) & works fine for my laptops. After searching with the network software, my desktop (can't be ethernet wired cuz of location) detects no wireless signal. Desktop is a 2 yr old HP p6311f Pavilion (Windows 7). Can't seem to detect any wireless hardware (ant/adaptr). Maybe I don't have the ability & need to buy a USB wireless antenna? Would the Pavilion come w/ wireless capability out of the box, maybe something inside the tower? No antenna on back. I happen to have a Linksys Wireless router which I plugged in to the desktop (trying both internet & shared ports) & noticed signal action on the router front panel. No internet on desktop though. Can I use this as an antenna for the desktop? Thanks & sorry if my solution is an easy one I'm just missing. Just want internet on the desktop.

  • Mod_rewrite (CakePHP routing functionality) forbidden after Snow Leopard upgrade

    - by Ryan Ballantyne
Hello ServerFault, I am using the standard Apple-provided installations of PHP 5.3 and Apache 2 to do web development on a Mac Pro that I just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). The upgrade went well enough, if I ignore the fact that it destroyed my ability to get work done. ;) After the update, the CakePHP application I was developing started giving me 403 Forbidden errors when accessed. Based on the errors in the log file, I've determined that Apache is choking on the mod_rewrite rules in Cake's .htaccess file. Here's the file, in its entirety: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^$ app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule (.*) app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> It's not that the rules themselves are wrong, but that Apache is forbidding the use of mod_rewrite altogether. All other pages on the machine work fine, and the 403 errors go away if I comment out the .htaccess file (but nothing works, of course). In my httpd.conf file, I've tried changing this: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all </Directory> To this: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny, allow Allow from all </Directory> ...which has no effect. I don't know much about Apache configuration files, and I'm quite stuck on this. In fact, I know little enough that I'm not sure which information about my setup is needed to enable people to provide useful answers. I'm just using the vanilla OS X setup, nothing fancy. Googling has yielded no fruits for me this time, so I'm turning to you. Any ideas?
