  • Use OpenOffice to do server-side ppt(x) to swf conversion

    - by Steven Xu
I'd like to turn Powerpoint presentations to SWF files the same way that OpenOffice does it, except automatically through a command line call. I came across http://stackoverflow.com/questions/886144, which led me to explore PyUNO bridge, which comes with OpenOffice as well as the OpenOffice command line API, but I wasn't able to make anything productive of it. Any guidance is appreciated. If there is a good solution outside of OpenOffice, I would be happy to try it too.

  • Recommendtations for a simple name registrar

    - by ripper234
I'm currently registering my domains through GoDaddy. Does the registrar matter? Any recommendations for registrars you're especially happy with? (See this very similar question, that requires API support. I need no such support, hence this question is more generic).

  • Communicating with remote server in Android

    - by primal
Hi, As part of the college mini-project, I am developing a micro-blogging platform for Android. I am planning to use Django framework in python to handle the communication between Android and remote server so as to make database API independent. I heard its best practice to use HTTP methods for the communication. Which is the best site/book to learn using HTTP methods for Android? I

  • Replacing deprecated <:< Manifest type witness in Scala 2.10

    - by Josh
Can someone point me at what I should be doing under scala 2.10 in place of this deprecated type witness on Manifest? reflect.ClassManifest.singleType(foo) <:< barManifest Honestly, my goal here is just to replace it with something that doesn't raise a deprecation warning. I'm happy to use the new reflection API. Here's the code in question in context, if that's important: https://github.com/azavea/geotrellis/blob/master/src/main/scala/geotrellis/feature/op/geometry/geometry.scala#L45

  • Delphi - Differences between CompareStr and CompareString

    - by Bourgui
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me What are the differences, in Delphi 2009, between the CompareStr (defined in SysUtils) and CompareString (from Windows API) functions? Both let you specify the locale to be used, is the Windows one simply more "complete", due to the available comparison flags? Is one consequently faster than the other? Thanks!

  • DataMapper: Create new record or update existing

    - by John Topley
Does DataMapper provide a convenient way to create a new record when none exists or update an existing one? I couldn't find anything in the API documentation. This is what I have at the moment which doesn't seem very elegant: foo = Foo.get(id) if foo.nil? foo = Foo.create(#attributes...) else foo.update(#attributes...) end foo.save

  • JSON parsing using JSON.net

    - by vbNewbie
I am accessing the facebook api and using the json.net library (newtonsoft.json.net) I declare a Jobject to parse the content and look for the specific elements and get their values. Everything works fine for the first few but then I get this unexplained nullexception error " (Object reference not set to an instance of an object) Now I took a look at the declaration but cannot see how to change it. Any help appreciated: Dim jobj as JObject = JObject.Parse(responseData) Dim message as string = string.empty message = jobj("message").tostring The error occurs at the last line above.

  • Is PyOpenGL a good place to start learning opengl programing?

    - by Isaiah
I want to start learning OpenGL but I don't really want to have to learn another language to do it. I already am pretty proficient in python and enjoy the language. I just want to know how close it is to the regular api? Will I be able to pretty easily follow tutorials and books without too much trouble? I know C++ gives better performance, but for just learning can I go wrong with PyOpenGL? Thanks alot

  • get last insert id when using Activerecord

    - by pierr
Hi, For Sqilte3 C API, I would use sqlite3_last_insert_rowid. How to get this id when using ActiveRecord after insert a new record? I use following way to insert a new record : Section.new |s| s.a = 1 s.b = 2 #I expected the return value of save to be the last_insert_id, but it is NOT s.save end

  • Validating key/certificate pairs with M2Crypto when a certificate chain is needed

    - by Charles Duffy
M2Crypto.X509.X509 objects have a verify(pkey) method, which provide a means of testing that a given certificate does in fact sign a specified key. This is a good and useful thing -- except that sometimes the certificate I want to verify in this way is invalid without the use of an intermediate certificate, which this API does not appear to allow a way to specify. Is there an alternate means of validating a certificate / private key pair which will work even when the certificate is unable to stand alone?

  • Can these sorts of programs exist in every Turing-complete language?

    - by I can't tell you my name.
In every Turing-Complete language, is it possible to create a working Compiler for itself which first runs on an interpreter written in some other language and then compiles it's own source code? (Bootstrapping) Standards-Compilant C++ compiler which outputs binaries for, e.g.: Windows? Regex Parser and Evaluater? World of Warcraft clone? (Assuming the language gets the necessary API bindings as, for example, OpenGL and the WoW source code is available) (Everything here theoretical) Let's take Brainf*ck as an example language.

  • What's the best software development conventions document you have seen?

    - by Pavel Radzivilovsky
Google C++ development conventions outlaw exceptions, RAII, RTTI and bans the default parameter in parseInt(number, radix=10). Qt API style guide is brilliant, but only covers interfaces. The Robert C. Martin series Clean Code has M104 galaxy on the cover, but it is 462 pages long and based on Java, with no simple "do this" digest. Assuming that it is important to synchronize style and best practices across the organization, what is the smartest, most pleasant and useful conventions document you have worked with?

  • Read/Write file metadata using C/C++

    - by Rajendra Kumar Uppal
Hi, Searched through net, could't find a way to read/write file metadata using C or C++, however, there are tools available for this, and also there are API's in C# and Java to do this. But I want to do it from scratch in C or C++. For example, read/write image metadata. Have found out that there are three formats in which metadata is written to files. EXIF, IPTC and XMP. Thanks.

  • Apache as Reverse Proxy for CouchDB

    - by Overflown
I'm thinking of a web app that uses CouchDB extensively, to the point where there would be great gains from serving with the native erlang HTTP API as much as possible. Can you configure Apache as a reverse proxy to allow outside GETs to be proxied directly to CouchDB, whereas PUT/POST are sent to the application internal logic (for sanitation, authentication...)? Or is this unwise -- the CouchDB built-in authentication options just seem a little weak for a Web App. Thanks

  • How to change subnet mask and DHCP enabled flag in C++ and Windows XP

    - by Don
Does anyone know how to change the subnet mask and the DHCP enabled flag on Windows XP / Vista / 7 from a C++ program? The Windows API has a GetAdaptersInfo() routine which will give you that information, but I need the counterpart SetAdaptersInfo() which doesn't seem to exist. I've looked all over MSDN and the web and don't see how to do it on newer-than-Windows-NT machines. Any information is greatly appreciated.
