  • xcode may not respond to warning

    - by Frames84
    Hi all, Can't seem to get rid of a warning. The warning is: 'UIImage' may not respond to '-scaleToSize' above the @implmentation MyViewController I have this @implementation: @implementation UIImage (scale) -(UIImage*)scaleToSize:(CGSize)size { UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(size); [self drawInRect:CGRectMake(0, 0, size.width, size.height)]; UIImage* scaledImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); return scaledImage; } @end Then I have MyViewController implementation @implementation TodayNewsTableViewController @synthesize dataList; ...... - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *MainNewsCellIdentifier = @"MainNewsCellIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: MainNewsCellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier: MainNewsCellIdentifier] autorelease]; } NSUInteger row = [indexPath row]; NSDictionary *stream = (NSDictionary *) [dataList objectAtIndex:row]; NSString *title = [stream valueForKey:@"title"]; if( ! [title isKindOfClass:[NSString class]] ) { cell.textLabel.text = @""; } else { cell.textLabel.text = title; } cell.textLabel.numberOfLines = 2; cell.textLabel.font =[UIFont systemFontOfSize:10]; cell.detailTextLabel.numberOfLines = 1; cell.detailTextLabel.font= [UIFont systemFontOfSize:8]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [stream valueForKey:@"created"]; NSString *i = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.mywebsite.co.uk/images/%@", [stream valueForKey:@"image"]]; NSData *imageURL = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:i]]; UIImage *newsImage = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:imageURL] ; UIImage *scaledImage = [newsImage scaleToSize:CGSizeMake(50.0f, 50.0f)]; // warning is appearing here. cell.imageView.image = scaledImage; [imageURL release]; [newsImage release]; return cell; } Thanks for your time in advance.   • ImageMagick Reflection

    - by dbruns
    Brief: convert ( -size 585x128 gradient: ) NewImage.png How do I change the above ImageMagick command so it takes the width and height from an existing image? I need it to remain a one line command. Details: I'm trying to programatically create an image reflection using ImageMagick. The effect I am looking for is similar to what you would see when looking at an object on the edge of a pool of water. There is a pretty good thread on what I am trying to do here but the solution isn't exactly what I am looking for. Since I will be calling ImageMagick from a C#.Net application I want to use one call without any temp files and return the image through stdout. So far I have this... convert OriginalImage.png ( OriginalImage.png -flip -blur 3x5 \ -crop 100%%x30%%+0+0 -negate -evaluate multiply 0.3 \ -negate ( -size 585x128 gradient: ) +matte -compose copy_opacity -composite ) -append NewImage.png This works ok but doesn't give me the exact fade I am looking for. Instead of a nice solid fade from top to bottom it is giving me a fade from top left to bottom right. I added the (-negate -evaluate multiply 0.3 -negate) section in to lighten it up a bit more since I wasn't getting the fade I wanted. I also don't want to have to hard code in the size of the image when creating the gradient ( -size 585x128 gradient: ) I'm also going to want to keep the original image's transparency if possible. To go to stdout I plan on replacing "NewImage.png" with "-"

  • Using a UITableViewController with a small-sized table?

    - by rpj
    When using a UITableViewController, the initWithStyle: method automatically creates the underlying UITableView with - according to the documentation - "the correct dimensions". My problem is that these "correct dimensions" seem 320x460 (the iPhone's screen size), but I'm pushing this TableView/Controller pair into a UINavigationController which is itself contained in a UIView, which itself is about half the height of the screen. No frame or bounds wrangling I can come up with seems to correctly reset the table's size, and as such it's "too long", meaning there are a collection of rows that are pushed off the bottom of the screen and are not visible nor reachable by scrolling. So my question comes down to: what is the proper way to tell a UITableViewController to resize its component UITableView to a specified rectangle? Thanks! Update I've tried all the techniques suggested here to no avail, but I did find one interesting thing: if I eschew the UINavigationController altogether (which I'm not yet willing to do for production, but as an experiment), and add the table view as a direct subview of the enclosing view I mentioned, the frame size given is respected. The very moment I re-introduce the UINavigationController into the mix, no matter if it is added as a subview before or after the table view, and no matter if alloc/init it before or after the table view is added as a subview, the result is the same as it was before. I'm beginning to suspect UINavigationController isn't much of a team player... Update 2 The suggestion to check frame size after the table view on screen was a good one: turns out that the navigation controller is in fact resizing it some time in between load and display. My solution, hacky at best, has been to cache the frame given on load and to reset it if changed at the beginning of tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. Why there you ask? Because it's the one place I found that worked, that's why! I don't consider this a solution as it's obviously improper, but for the benefit of anyone else reading, it does seem to work.

  • How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes

    - by Ben
    I'm restyling a certain page where I don't have access to all the source-HTML. So I'm left over with some hard to target elements within a page I need removed. For example the page is swamped with <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div>. To get rid of them I tried this in CSS: div[style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"] { display:none !important; } I'd like to fix this using CSS, because the the HTML that needs to be removed is updated using ajax. How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes? Some more of the source-code (took a while to organize the parsed source): <div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760187/Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low.html.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036303.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760187/Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low.html.html"> Le Coq Sportif Angers Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 89,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760185/Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036301.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760185/Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Auveurne Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 79,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760191/Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036307.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760191/Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Bordeaux Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760181/Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036297.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760181/Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Cannet Low </a> </span> <span class="Discount BigPhotoList_Discount" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 94,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760183/Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036299.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760183/Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Rodez Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760189/Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036305.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760189/Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Sedan Low </a> </span> <span class="Discount BigPhotoList_Discount" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 109,95 </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> </div>

  • iPhone Rendering Question

    - by slythic
    Hi all, I'm new to iPhone/Objective-C development. I "jumped the gun" and started reading and implementing some chapters from O'Reilly's iPhone Development. I was following the ebook's code exactly and my code was generating the following error: CGContextSetFillColorWithColor: invalid context CGContextFillRects: invalid context CGContextSetFillColorWithColor: invalid context CGContextGetShouldSmoothFonts: invalid context However, when I downloaded the sample code for the same chapter the code is different. Book Code: - (void) Render { CGContextRef g = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //fill background with gray CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(g, [UIColor grayColor].CGColor); CGContextFillRect(g, CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height)); //draw text in black. CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(g, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); [@"O'Reilly Rules!" drawAtPoint:CGPointMake(10.0, 20.0) withFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:[UIFont systemFontSize]]]; } Actual Project Code from the website (works): - (void) Render { [self setNeedsDisplay]; //this sets up a deferred call to drawRect. } - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { CGContextRef g = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); //fill background with gray CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(g, [UIColor grayColor].CGColor); CGContextFillRect(g, CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height)); //draw text in black. CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(g, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); [@"O'Reilly Rules!" drawAtPoint:CGPointMake(10.0, 20.0) withFont:[UIFont systemFontOfSize:[UIFont systemFontSize]]]; } What is it about these lines of code that make the app render correctly? - (void) Render { [self setNeedsDisplay]; //this sets up a deferred call to drawRect. } - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie!

  • Retrieving dll version info via Win32 - VerQueryValue(...) crashes under Win7 x64

    - by user256890
    The respected open source .NET wrapper implementation (SharpBITS) of Windows BITS services fails identifying the underlying BITS version under Win7 x64. Here is the source code that fails. NativeMethods are native Win32 calls wrapped by .NET methods and decorated via DllImport attribute. private static BitsVersion GetBitsVersion() { try { string fileName = Path.Combine( System.Environment.SystemDirectory, "qmgr.dll"); int handle = 0; int size = NativeMethods.GetFileVersionInfoSize(fileName, out handle); if (size == 0) return BitsVersion.Bits0_0; byte[] buffer = new byte[size]; if (!NativeMethods.GetFileVersionInfo(fileName, handle, size, buffer)) { return BitsVersion.Bits0_0; } IntPtr subBlock = IntPtr.Zero; uint len = 0; if (!NativeMethods.VerQueryValue(buffer, @"\VarFileInfo\Translation", out subBlock, out len)) { return BitsVersion.Bits0_0; } int block1 = Marshal.ReadInt16(subBlock); int block2 = Marshal.ReadInt16((IntPtr)((int)subBlock + 2 )); string spv = string.Format( @"\StringFileInfo\{0:X4}{1:X4}\ProductVersion", block1, block2); string versionInfo; if (!NativeMethods.VerQueryValue(buffer, spv, out versionInfo, out len)) { return BitsVersion.Bits0_0; } ... The implementation follows the MSDN instructions by the letter. Still during the second VerQueryValue(...) call, the application crashes and kills the debug session without hesitation. Just a little more debug info right before the crash: spv = "\StringFileInfo\040904B0\ProductVersion" buffer = byte[1900] - full with binary data block1 = 1033 block2 = 1200 I looked at the targeted "C:\Windows\System32\qmgr.dll" file (The implementation of BITS) via Windows. It says that the Product Version is 7.5.7600.16385. Instead of crashing, this value should return in the verionInfo string. Any advice?

  • cocoa hello world screensaver

    - by RW
    I have been studying NSView and as such I thought I would give a shot at a screen saver. I have been able to display and image in an NSView but I can't seen to modify this example code to display a simple picture in ScreenSaverView. http://www.mactech.com/articles/mactech/Vol.20/20.06/ScreenSaversInCocoa/ BTW great tutorial that works with Snow Leopard. I would think to simply display an image I would need something that looked like this... What am I doing wrong? // // try_screensaverView.m // try screensaver // #import "try_screensaverView.h" @implementation try_screensaverView - (id)initWithFrame:(NSRect)frame isPreview:(BOOL)isPreview { self = [super initWithFrame:frame isPreview:isPreview]; if (self) { [self setAnimationTimeInterval:1]; //refresh once per sec } return self; } - (void)startAnimation { [super startAnimation]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"leaf" ofType:@"JPG" inDirectory:@""]; image = [[NSImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; } - (void)stopAnimation { [super stopAnimation]; } - (void)drawRect:(NSRect)rect { [super drawRect:rect]; } - (void)animateOneFrame { ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// //load image and display This does not scale the image NSRect bounds = [self bounds]; NSSize newSize; newSize.width = bounds.size.width; newSize.height = bounds.size.height; [image setSize:newSize]; NSRect imageRect; imageRect.origin = NSZeroPoint; imageRect.size = [image size]; NSRect drawingRect = imageRect; [image drawInRect:drawingRect fromRect:imageRect operation:NSCompositeSourceOver fraction:1]; } - (BOOL)hasConfigureSheet { return NO; } - (NSWindow*)configureSheet { return nil; } @end

  • Java: Efficiency of the readLine method of the BufferedReader and possible alternatives

    - by Luhar
    We are working to reduce the latency and increase the performance of a process written in Java that consumes data (xml strings) from a socket via the readLine() method of the BufferedReader class. The data is delimited by the end of line separater (\n), and each line can be of a variable length (6KBits - 32KBits). Our code looks like: Socket sock = connection; InputStream in = sock.getInputStream(); BufferedReader inputReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); ... do { String input = inputReader.readLine(); // Executor call to parse the input thread in a seperate thread }while(true) So I have a couple of questions: Will the inputReader.readLine() method return as soon as it hits the \n character or will it wait till the buffer is full? Is there a faster of picking up data from the socket than using a BufferedReader? What happens when the size of the input string is smaller than the size of the Socket's receive buffer? What happens when the size of the input string is bigger than the size of the Socket's receive buffer? I am getting to grips (slowly) with Java's IO libraries, so any pointers are much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Template Sort In C++

    - by wdow88
    Hey all, I'm trying to write a sort function but am having trouble figuring out how to initialize a value, and making this function work as a generic template. The sort works by: Find a pair =(ii,jj)= with a minimum value = ii+jj = such at A[ii]A[jj] If such a pair exists, then swap A[ii] and A[jj] else break; The function I have written is as follows: template <typename T> void sort(T *A, int size) { T min =453; T temp=0; bool swapper = true; while(swapper) { swapper = false; int index1 = 0, index2 = 0; for (int ii = 0; ii < size-1; ii++){ for (int jj = ii + 1; jj < size; jj++){ if((min >= (A[ii]+A[jj])) && (A[ii] > A[jj])){ min = (A[ii]+A[jj]); index1 = ii; index2 = jj; swapper = true; } } } if (!swapper) return; else { temp = A[index1]; A[index1] = A[index2]; A[index2] = temp; sort(A,size); } } } This function will successfully sort an array of integers, but not an array of chars. I do not know how to properly initialize the min value for the start of the comparison. I tried initializing the value by simply adding the first two elements of the array together (min = A[0] + A[1]), but it looks to me like for this algorithm it will fail. I know this is sort of a strange type of sort, but it is practice for a test, so thanks for any input.

  • Mixing c++ standard strings and windows API

    - by JB
    Many windows APIs take a pointer to a buffer and a size element but the result needs to go into a c++ string. (I'm using windows unicode here so they are wstrings) Here is an example :- #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <vector> #include <windows.h> using namespace std; // This is the method I'm interested in improving ... wstring getComputerName() { vector<wchar_t> buffer; buffer.resize(MAX_COMPUTERNAME_LENGTH+1); DWORD size = MAX_COMPUTERNAME_LENGTH; GetComputerNameW(&buffer[0], &size); return wstring(&buffer[0], size); } int main() { wcout << getComputerName() << "\n"; } My question really is, is this the best way to write the getComputerName function so that it fits into C++ better, or is there a better way? I don't see any way to use a string directly without going via a vector unless I missed something? It works fine, but somehow seems a little ugly. The question isn't about that particular API, it's just a convenient example.

  • How to determine Scale of Line Graph based on Pixels/Height?

    - by Dexter
    I have a problem due to my terrible math abilities, that I cannot figure out how to scale a graph based on the maximum and minimum values so that the whole graph will fit onto the graph-area (400x420) without parts of it being off the screen (based on a given equation by user). Let's say I have this code, and it automatically draws squares and then the line graph based on these values. What is the formula (what do I multiply) to scale it so that it fits into the small graphing area? vector<int> m_x; vector<int> m_y; // gets automatically filled by user equation or values int HeightInPixels = 420;// Graphing area size!! int WidthInPixels = 400; int best_max_y = GetMaxOfVector(m_y); int best_min_y = GetMinOfVector(m_y); m_row = 0; m_col = 0; y_magnitude = (HeightInPixels/(best_max_y+best_min_y)); // probably won't work magnitude = (WidthInPixels/(int)m_x.size()); m_col = m_row = best_max_y; // number of vertical/horizontal lines to draw ////x_magnitude = (WidthInPixels/(int)m_x.size())/2; Doesn't work well ////y_magnitude = (HeightInPixels/(int)m_y.size())/2; Doesn't work well ready = true; // we have values, graph it Invalidate(); // uses WM_PAINT

  • wxpython: adding panel to wx.Frame disables/conflicts with wx.Frame's OnPaint?!

    - by sdaau
    Hi all, I just encountered this strange situation: I found an example, where wx.Frame's OnPaint is overridden, and a circle is drawn. Funnily, as soon as I add even a single panel to the frame, the circle is not drawn anymore - in fact, OnPaint is not called at all anymore ! Can anyone explain me if this is the expected behavior, and how to correctly handle a wx.Frame's OnPaint, if the wx.Frame has child panels ? Small code example is below.. Thanks in advance for any answers, Cheers! The code: #!/usr/bin/env python # http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/programming-9/wxwidgets-wxpython-drawing-problems-with-onpaint-event-703946/ import wx class MainWindow(wx.Frame): def __init__(self, parent, title, size=wx.DefaultSize): wx.Frame.__init__(self, parent, wx.ID_ANY, title, wx.DefaultPosition, size) self.circles = list() self.displaceX = 30 self.displaceY = 30 circlePos = (self.displaceX, self.displaceY) self.circles.append(circlePos) ## uncommenting either only first, or both of ## the commands below, causes OnPaint *not* to be called anymore! #~ self.panel = wx.Panel(self, wx.ID_ANY) #~ self.mpanelA = wx.Panel(self.panel, -1, size=(200,50)) self.Bind(wx.EVT_PAINT, self.OnPaint) def OnPaint(self, e): print "OnPaint called" dc = wx.PaintDC(self) dc.SetPen(wx.Pen(wx.BLUE)) dc.SetBrush(wx.Brush(wx.BLUE)) # Go through the list of circles to draw all of them for circle in self.circles: dc.DrawCircle(circle[0], circle[1], 10) def main(): app = wx.App() win = MainWindow(None, "Draw delayed circles", size=(620,460)) win.Show() app.MainLoop() if __name__ == "__main__": main()

  • Accelerated C++, problem 5-6 (copying values from inside a vector to the front)

    - by Darel
    Hello, I'm working through the exercises in Accelerated C++ and I'm stuck on question 5-6. Here's the problem description: (somewhat abbreviated, I've removed extraneous info.) 5-6. Write the extract_fails function so that it copies the records for the passing students to the beginning of students, and then uses the resize function to remove the extra elements from the end of students. (students is a vector of student structures. student structures contain an individual student's name and grades.) More specifically, I'm having trouble getting the vector.insert function to properly copy the passing student structures to the start of the vector students. Here's the extract_fails function as I have it so far (note it doesn't resize the vector yet, as directed by the problem description; that should be trivial once I get past my current issue.) // Extract the students who failed from the "students" vector. void extract_fails(vector<Student_info>& students) { typedef vector<Student_info>::size_type str_sz; typedef vector<Student_info>::iterator iter; iter it = students.begin(); str_sz i = 0, count = 0; while (it != students.end()) { // fgrade tests wether or not the student failed if (!fgrade(*it)) { // if student passed, copy to front of vector students.insert(students.begin(), it, it); // tracks of the number of passing students(so we can properly resize the array) count++; } cout << it->name << endl; // output to verify that each student is iterated to it++; } } The code compiles and runs, but the students vector isn't adding any student structures to its front. My program's output displays that the students vector is unchanged. Here's my complete source code, followed by a sample input file (I redirect input from the console by typing " < grades" after the compiled program name at the command prompt.) #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <algorithm> // to get the declaration of `sort' #include <stdexcept> // to get the declaration of `domain_error' #include <vector> // to get the declaration of `vector' //driver program for grade partitioning examples using std::cin; using std::cout; using std::endl; using std::string; using std::domain_error; using std::sort; using std::vector; using std::max; using std::istream; struct Student_info { std::string name; double midterm, final; std::vector<double> homework; }; bool compare(const Student_info&, const Student_info&); std::istream& read(std::istream&, Student_info&); std::istream& read_hw(std::istream&, std::vector<double>&); double median(std::vector<double>); double grade(double, double, double); double grade(double, double, const std::vector<double>&); double grade(const Student_info&); bool fgrade(const Student_info&); void extract_fails(vector<Student_info>& v); int main() { vector<Student_info> vs; Student_info s; string::size_type maxlen = 0; while (read(cin, s)) { maxlen = max(maxlen, s.name.size()); vs.push_back(s); } sort(vs.begin(), vs.end(), compare); extract_fails(vs); // display the new, modified vector - it should be larger than // the input vector, due to some student structures being // added to the front of the vector. cout << "count: " << vs.size() << endl << endl; vector<Student_info>::iterator it = vs.begin(); while (it != vs.end()) cout << it++->name << endl; return 0; } // Extract the students who failed from the "students" vector. void extract_fails(vector<Student_info>& students) { typedef vector<Student_info>::size_type str_sz; typedef vector<Student_info>::iterator iter; iter it = students.begin(); str_sz i = 0, count = 0; while (it != students.end()) { // fgrade tests wether or not the student failed if (!fgrade(*it)) { // if student passed, copy to front of vector students.insert(students.begin(), it, it); // tracks of the number of passing students(so we can properly resize the array) count++; } cout << it->name << endl; // output to verify that each student is iterated to it++; } } bool compare(const Student_info& x, const Student_info& y) { return x.name < y.name; } istream& read(istream& is, Student_info& s) { // read and store the student's name and midterm and final exam grades is >> s.name >> s.midterm >> s.final; read_hw(is, s.homework); // read and store all the student's homework grades return is; } // read homework grades from an input stream into a `vector<double>' istream& read_hw(istream& in, vector<double>& hw) { if (in) { // get rid of previous contents hw.clear(); // read homework grades double x; while (in >> x) hw.push_back(x); // clear the stream so that input will work for the next student in.clear(); } return in; } // compute the median of a `vector<double>' // note that calling this function copies the entire argument `vector' double median(vector<double> vec) { typedef vector<double>::size_type vec_sz; vec_sz size = vec.size(); if (size == 0) throw domain_error("median of an empty vector"); sort(vec.begin(), vec.end()); vec_sz mid = size/2; return size % 2 == 0 ? • Hashtable resizing leaks memory

    - by thpetrus
    I wrote a hashtable and it basically consists of these two structures: typedef struct dictEntry { void *key; void *value; struct dictEntry *next; } dictEntry; typedef struct dict { dictEntry **table; unsigned long size; unsigned long items; } dict; dict.table is a multidimensional array, which contains all the stored key/value pair, which again are a linked list. If half of the hashtable is full, I expand it by doubling the size and rehashing it: dict *_dictRehash(dict *d) { int i; dict *_d; dictEntry *dit; _d = dictCreate(d->size * 2); for (i = 0; i < d->size; i++) { for (dit = d->table[i]; dit != NULL; dit = dit->next) { _dictAddRaw(_d, dit); } } /* FIXME memory leak because the old dict can never be freed */ free(d); // seg fault return _d; } The function above uses the pointers from the old hash table and stores it in the newly created one. When freeing the old dict d a Segmentation Fault occurs. How am I able to free the old hashtable struct without having to allocate the memory for the key/value pairs again?

  • Can you overlay transparent images in Blackberry Apps?

    - by Greg
    I have a very simple application that has one screen and one button. The main screen has a verticalFieldManager with a BitmapField inside it, and one button beneath the bitmap. I want to be able to overlay another image on top of this when the user clicks a button. The overlay image is a PNG with transparent background, and this is important for design, so I can't use popupscreen or a new screen because the backgrounds are always white by default, and I've heard alpha doesn't really do the trick. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone knows a simple way to... A) take a standard verticalFieldManager and overlay a PNG on top of the inner contents B) overlay a PNG over the screen, no matter the contents The basic functionality of this app was intended to be - show an image. on click, show another overlaid on top. on click again, remove the popup image. I haven't found anything that addresses something like this online, but I have read of people doing similar things that utilize popupscreen and new screens in a way I don't need to do. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks

  • What information should a SVN/Versioned file commit comment contain?

    - by RenderIn
    I'm curious what kind of content should be in a versioned file commit comment. Should it describe generally what changed (e.g. "The widget screen was changed to display only active widgets") or should it be more specific (e.g. "A new condition was added to the where clause of the fetchWidget query to retrieve only active widgets by default") How atomic should a single commit be? Just the file containing the updated query in a single commit (e.g. "Updated the widget screen to display only active widgets by default"), or should that and several other changes + interface changes to a screen share the same commit with a more general description like ("Updated the widget screen: A) display only active widgets by default B) added button to toggle showing inactive widgets") I see subversion commit comments being used very differently and was wondering what others have had success with. Some comments are as brief as "updated files", while others are many paragraphs long, and others are formatted in a way that they can be queried and associated with some external system such as JIRA. I used to be extremely descriptive of the reason for the change as well as the specific technical changes. Lately I've been scaling back and just giving a general "This is what I changed on this page" kind of comment.

  • how to Compute the average probe length for success and failure - Linear probe (Hash Tables)

    - by fang_dejavu
    hi everyone, I'm doing an assignment for my Data Structures class. we were asked to to study linear probing with load factors of .1, .2 , .3, ...., and .9. The formula for testing is: The average probe length using linear probing is roughly Success-- ( 1 + 1/(1-L)**2)/2 or Failure-- (1+1(1-L))/2. we are required to find the theoretical using the formula above which I did(just plug the load factor in the formula), then we have to calculate the empirical (which I not quite sure how to do). here is the rest of the requirements **For each load factor, 10,000 randomly generated positive ints between 1 and 50000 (inclusive) will be inserted into a table of the "right" size, where "right" is strictly based upon the load factor you are testing. Repeats are allowed. Be sure that your formula for randomly generated ints is correct. There is a class called Random in java.util. USE it! After a table of the right (based upon L) size is loaded with 10,000 ints, do 100 searches of newly generated random ints from the range of 1 to 50000. Compute the average probe length for each of the two formulas and indicate the denominators used in each calculationSo, for example, each test for a .5 load would have a table of size approximately 20,000 (adjusted to be prime) and similarly each test for a .9 load would have a table of approximate size 10,000/.9 (again adjusted to be prime). The program should run displaying the various load factors tested, the average probe for each search (the two denominators used to compute the averages will add to 100), and the theoretical answers using the formula above. .** how do I calculate the empirical success?

  • C# Vector maths questions

    - by Mark
    Im working in a screen coordinate space that is different to that of the classical X/Y coordinate space, where my Y direction goes down in the positive instead of up. Im also trying to figure out how to make a Circle on my screen always face away from the center point of the screen. If the center point of my screen is at x(200) y(300) and the point of my circle's center is at x(150) and y(380) then I would like to calculate the angle that the circle should be facing. At the moment I have this: Point centerPoint = new Point(200, 300); Point middleBottom = new Point(200, 400); Vector middleVector = new Vector(centerPoint.X - middleBottom.X, centerPoint.Y - middleBottom.Y); Vector vectorOfCircle = new Vector(centerPoint.X - 150, centerPoint.Y - 400); middleVector.Normalize(); vectorOfCircle.Normalize(); var angle = Math.Acos(Vector.CrossProduct(vectorOfCircle, middleVector)); Console.WriteLine("Angle: {0}", angle * (180/Math.PI)); Im not getting what I would expect. I would say that when I enter in x(150) and y(300) of my circle, I would expect to see the rotation of 90 deg, but Im not getting that... Im getting 180!! Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mark

  • Generating two thumbnails from the same image in Django

    - by Titus
    Hello, this seems like quite an easy problem but I can't figure out what is going on here. Basically, what I'd like to do is create two different thumbnails from one image on a Django model. What ends up happening is that it seems to be looping and recreating the same image (while appending an underscore to it each time) until it throws up an error that the filename is to big. So, you end up something like: OSError: [Errno 36] File name too long: 'someimg________________etc.jpg' Here is the code: def save(self, *args, **kwargs): if self.image: iname = os.path.split(self.image.name)[-1] fname, ext = os.path.splitext(iname) tlname, tsname = fname + '_thumb_l' + ext, fname + '_thumb_s' + ext self.thumb_large.save(tlname, make_thumb(self.image, size=(250,250))) self.thumb_small.save(tsname, make_thumb(self.image, size=(100,100))) super(Artist, self).save(*args, **kwargs) def make_thumb(infile, size=(100,100)): infile.seek(0) image = Image.open(infile) if image.mode not in ('L', 'RGB'): image.convert('RGB') image.thumbnail(size, Image.ANTIALIAS) temp = StringIO() image.save(temp, 'png') return ContentFile(temp.getvalue()) I didn't show imports for the sake of brevity. Assume there are two ImageFields on the Artist model: thumb_large, and thumb_small. If this isn't the correct way to do it, I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

  • How can I order by the result of a recursive SQL query

    - by Tony
    I have the following method I need to ORDER BY: def has_attachments? attachments.size > 0 || (!parent.nil? && parent.has_attachments?) end I have gotten this far: ORDER BY CASE WHEN attachments.size > 0 THEN 1 ELSE (CASE WHEN parent_id IS NULL THEN 0 ELSE (CASE message.parent ...what goes here ) END END END I may be looking at this wrong because I don't have experience with recursive SQL. Essentially I want to ORDER by whether a message or any of its parents has attachments. If it's attachment size is 0, I can stop and return a 1. If the message has an attachment size of 0, I now check to see if it has a parent. If it has no parent then there is no attachment, however if it does have a parent then I essentially have to do the same query case logic for the parent. UPDATE The table looks like this +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | message_type_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_priority_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_status_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | message_subject_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | | | | from_user_id | int(11) | YES | MUL | NULL | | | parent_id | int(11) | YES | MUL | NULL | | | expires_at | datetime | YES | MUL | NULL | | | subject_other | varchar(255) | YES | | NULL | | | body | text | YES | | NULL | | | created_at | datetime | NO | MUL | | | | updated_at | datetime | NO | | | | | lock_version | int(11) | NO | | 0 | | +---------------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ Where the parent_id refers to the parent message, if it exists.
