I often find myself detached from the programming community and I generally find out about all the "cool" things that are happening after they have already happened. So my question is how do you stay connected and up to date with the programming community? Podcasts, blogs, meet ups, conventions, twitter, talking with your co-workers whatever it may be that keeps you connected. Please provide actual examples of which blogs, talks, etc you use.
I'm writing a C++ app.
I have a class variable that more than one thread is writing to.
In C++, anything that can be modified without the compiler "realizing" that it's being changed needs to be marked volatile right? So if my code is multi threaded, and one thread may write to a var while another reads from it, do I need to mark the var volaltile?
[I don't have a race condition since I'm relying on writes to ints being atomic]
Thanks!
When using tabs with storyboard in iOS 5, some of them may take quite a long time to initialize when switching to it (for example, a tab containing GLKViewController).
This happens because an amount of work in viewDidLoad method in this controller could be very big.
Is there a way to initialize particular view controller (and call it's viewDidLoad method) defined in the storyboard at early stage - when an application starts? Having done this, the delay should be eliminated.
how to get a Dictionary key by value in C#?
Dictionary<string, string> types = new Dictionary<string, string>()
{
{"1", "one"},
{"2", "two"},

I want simething like this:

getByValueKey("one") must be return "1".
What is the best way do this? may be HashTable, SortedLists?
HI,

I need to sort a 2 dimensional array of doubles on multiple columns using either C or C++. Could someone point me to the algorithm that I should use or an existing library (perhaps boost?) that has this functionality?
I have a feeling that writing a recursive function may be the way to go but I am too lazy to write out the algorithm or implement it myself if it has been done elsewhere. :-)
Thanks
Hi guys, I would like to install Visual Studio 2008 and MS SQL Server 2008 on Ubuntu OS which I have in my PC, however, I don't know how. May I have some tips please? Thanks.
How can I get the list of jars deployed in JBoss?
I want to compile some classes at runtime in EJB, but they may use some of the deployed jars, so I need to specify classpath during compilation.
I've found that Linq2Sql doesn't (Rhino) mock well, as the interfaces I need aren't there. Does EF generate code that's more mockable?
NOTE: I'm not mocking, yet, without interfaces, the next reader of this question may not have my bias.
EDIT: VS2008 / 3.5 for now.
I try extend an core class.
But catch error:
Warning: include(
\\\\\\\\\\\\MyModule\Ajaxsearch\Model\Resource\Eav\Mysql4\Product\Collection
\\\\\\\\\\.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream:...
Why magento add slashes to addres? May be config error?
I have elements being generated by dynamic html, I would like to reference the particular href that is calling the function when one of many may be calling it.
<a href="javascript:Foo(this)">Link</a>
Does not work when I try to reference $(this). Is there another way to do this or do I have to make dynamic ids?
I have a DB schema composed of MYISAM tables, i am interested to delete old records from time to time from some of the tables.
I know that delete does not reclaim the memory space, but as i found in a description of DELETE command, inserts may reuse the space deleted
In MyISAM tables, deleted rows are maintained in a linked list and subsequent INSERT operations reuse old row positions.
I am interested if LOAD DATA command also reuses the deleted space?
UPDATE
I am also interested how the index space reclaimed?
I'm looking for a way to specify required js files by an angular app. So that, we don't need to include an array of tag for all the files which may be required by some ng-app. The main idea behind this requirement is - we might not need to load all the resources on the browser at once. Which ever ng-app gets loaded onto the screen, will fetch its dependencies on its own from the server. Is there any existing way within angularJS to achieve this goal..?

Hi,
Laying out the verticies in a DAG in a tree form (i.e. verticies with no in-edges on top, verticies dependent only on those on the next level, etc.) is rather simple. However, is there a simple algorithm to do this that minimizes edge crossing? (For some graphs, it may be impossible to completely eliminate edge crossing.) A picture says a thousand words, so is there an algorithm that would suggest:

When developing for iPhone/iPad do you

What framework(s) do you use?
What other framework(s) have you tried (if you decided to not use them, why not?)

I am trying to find out how long does it take each thread timeslice (quantum) in Windows but the only information that I found out is about the clock ticks being from 15 to 20ms or 20-30ms.
How can I find this information ?
I think it may vary from OS to OS, but I am not certain.
I appreciate any suggestion on this subject.
Thank you.
Currently I am creating a WCF service which has to connect to a DAL which, just connects to a database using ADO.net and stored procedures.
The DAl writes its responses from the database to a datacontract which is passed over the wire to the client via the service.
I was reading that this may possibly be the anti pattern 'CRudy Interface', but I wasn't sure as I am sharing the datacontract.
If I am using an anti pattern, can anyone suggest a better pattern to use for the behavior I require?
Thanks
I may have missed the whole point about protocols but my question is, can protocol be used to say iterate a custom data structure or how println would print the object?
If you want to some code to execute based on two or more conditions which is the best way to format that if statement ?
first example:-
if(ConditionOne && ConditionTwo && ConditionThree)
{
Code to execute
}
Second example:-
if(ConditionOne)
{
if(ConditionTwo )
{
if(ConditionThree)
{
Code to execute
}
}
}
which is easiest to understand and read bearing in mind that each condition may be a long function name or something.

I have a ASP.NET MVC website hosted in IIS.
Sometimes I push changes and user's browser may still using the previous files, causing functionality problems.
It is because the browser is caching those files right?
What can I do to ensure the user browser loading the updated files??
Thanks!
