  • Can sIFR js files be combined into 1 js file?

    - by Logan Stellway
In the new sifr 3, the author has implemented the ability to combine the css files into 1 file. There are 4 .js files total and I was wondering if there were any ideas how to combine these files for a faster loading time on the client side and also I was wondering if there was any way to just include the sIFR css styles in an already existing css file. These modifications would greatly decrease the load/waiting time on the end user and I was wondering if there was any thought for that on upcoming builds or if there were any ideas on how to accomplish this idea.

  • Rails model without database

    - by FlipFlop
I want to create a Rails (2.1 and 2.2) model with ActiveRecord validations, but without a database table. What is the most widely used approach? I've found some plugins that claim to offer this functionality, but many of them don't appear to be widely used or maintained. What does the community recommend I do? Right now I am leaning toward coming up with my own solution based on this blog post.

  • Large strings: Text files or SQL DB?

    - by Tommo
I am coding a forum system using PHP. I am currently storing a threads ID, title, author, views and other attributes in an SQL database and then storing the thread body (the HTML and BBcode) in text files inside a folder named after the thread ID. In practise it's really simple to grab the database values then just grab the thread body from the text file, but I was wondering if this is the 'proper way'? I have personally no problems doing this but if it turns out it is massively inefficient and I should instead store both the thread body HTML and BBcode in the database instead then I will change. However, to me it seems wrong to store such a (very possibly) huge string of multi-line text along with lots of different characters in a database - I was taught that databases are more for short field 'values' rather than website content. I would just like a definitive answer to this because it's been bugging me for ages as to wherever I’ve been doing it properly. Does anyone know how popular forum systems store threads?

  • Linking Post Title to Specific Page ID

    - by ThatMacLad
    I've created a form to update my websites homepage with content but I wanted to know how I could set it up so that a posts title links to a specific post ID. I'd also like to add a Read More link that directs anybody reading the blog to the correct post. Here is my PHP code: <html> <head> <title>Blog Name</title> </head> <body> <?php mysql_connect ('localhost', 'root', 'root') ; mysql_select_db ('tmlblog'); $sql = "SELECT * FROM php_blog ORDER BY timestamp DESC LIMIT 5"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or print ("Can't select entries from table php_blog.<br />" . $sql . "<br />" . mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { $date = date("l F d Y", $row['timestamp']); $title = stripslashes($row['title']); $entry = stripslashes($row['entry']); $password = $row['password']; $id = $row['id']; if ($password == 1) { echo "<p><strong>" . $title . "</strong></p>"; printf("<p>This is a password protected entry. If you have a password, log in below.</p>"); printf("<form method=\"post\" action=\"post.php?id=%s\"><p><strong><label for=\"username\">Username:</label></strong><br /><input type=\"text\" name=\"username\" id=\"username\" /></p><p><strong><label for=\"pass\">Password:</label></strong><br /><input type=\"password\" name=\"pass\" id=\"pass\" /></p><p><input type=\"submit\" name=\"submit\" id=\"submit\" value=\"submit\" /></p></form>",$id); print "<hr />"; } else { ?> <p><strong><?php echo $title; ?></strong><br /><br /> <?php echo $entry; ?><br /><br /> Posted on <?php echo $date; ?> <hr /></p> <?php } } ?> </body> </html> Thanks for any help. I really appreciate any input!

  • What is the proper method to stop loading a Flex Module before it has completely loaded?

    - by Michael Prescott
I seem to recall that Loader.unload() could once be used to stop loading a swf before it had finished loading. I can no longer find documentation or the blog where I read this. Perhaps it was an unofficial feature. Anyhow, IModuleInfo, returned by ModuleManager.getModule() has an unload() method. If I want to halt loading a Flex Module that is in progress, do I just call iModuleInfo_instance.unload()?

  • Cadr of a list involving assoc function

    - by user3619045
I have looked around on the net and cant find an answer to my query. I would really appreciate if someone could provide a good answer without down rating this post. In Lisp car, cdr are used on data mode like '(whatever here) which makes sense to me. Now, in the book Land of Lisp the author is explaining how to build a text engine and suddenly he uses the following description to make a function. (defun describe-location (location nodes) (cadr (assoc location nodes))) Can I ask why is he doing a cadr on a list and how come it provides a response and not an error? shouldn't it be a data mode i.e with a quote in front of the opening bracket '(whatever here)? and also why is he using assoc as in (assoc location nodes) and not (assoc 'garden *nodes*) Isn't the second correct way to use assoc ? I may be missing the big picture and as such would really appreciate someone explaining these key points please. Many thanks!

  • How to play music on site preventing easy direct file download

    - by Hugo Palma
I'm starting a blog with a hosted wordpress instance and i would like to be able to stream music using a flash player on some posts. The problem is that every player i find uses a simple param to get the file url which makes it very easy for someone to find that url and just download the file. I know that it's probably impossible to prevent this all together, but i at least don't want it to be obvious. A server side solution can be implemented as i have full access to the server.

  • Grails: can remoteField update multiple fields?

    - by Michael Bavin
Hi, Assume i have a book entity with an isbn field. When entered a isbn number, i want 2 fields to be updated: title and author. My controller looks like this: def ajaxGetBook = { def book = Book.findByIsbn(params.isbn) if(book==null) book = new Book() render book as JSON } So my call works, and i get a full JSON Book. Now i would like to update 2 texfields by the update attribute <g:remoteField action="ajaxGetBook" update="title" name="isbn" value="${bookInstance?.book?.isbn}" paramName="isbn"/> Now the title field gets updated with the full book object, so that doesn't work. Is it possible to update field title with only the JSON book.title? Is it possible to update more fields at once? I could render book.title as JSON but that works for only one field. Thank you

  • Converting SQL with subselect in select to HQL

    - by UltraVi01
I have the following SQL that I am having problems converting to HQL. A NPE is getting thrown -- which I think has something to do with the SUM function. Also, I'd like to sort on the subselect alias -- is this possible? SQL (subselect): SELECT q.title, q.author_id, (SELECT IFNULL(SUM(IF(vote_up=true,1,-1)), 0) FROM vote WHERE question_id = q.id) AS votecount FROM question q ORDER BY votecount DESC HQL (not working) SELECT q, (SELECT COALESCE(SUM(IF(v.voteUp=true,1,-1)), 0) FROM Vote v WHERE v.question = q) AS votecount FROM Question AS q LEFT JOIN q.author u LEFT JOIN u.blockedUsers ub WHERE q.dateCreated BETWEEN :week AND :now AND u.id NOT IN ( SELECT ub.blocked FROM UserBlock AS ub WHERE ub.blocker =:loggedInUser ) AND (u.blockedUsers IS EMPTY OR ub.blocked !=:loggedInUser) ORDER BY votecount DESC

  • How to build javascript ad rotator?

    - by Geri Langlois
I have a blog aggregator with many contributing blogs. I would like to distribute a snippet of javascript that contributors could place on their blogs. After placement the javascript would load a link and image that would point to the aggregator -- very much the same way that Google Adsense works but on a simpler and smaller scale. Can anyone provide or direct me to some sample code? Any help is much appreciated.

  • How to explain to a developer that adding extra if - else if conditions is not a good way to "improv

    - by Lilit
Recently I've bumped into the following C++ code: if (a) { f(); } else if (b) { f(); } else if (c) { f(); } Where a, b and c are all different conditions, and they are not very short. I tried to change the code to: if (a || b || c) { f(); } But the author opposed saying that my change will decrease readability of the code. I had two arguments: 1) You should not increase readability by replacing one branching statement with three (though I really doubt that it's possible to make code more readable by using else if instead of ||). 2) It's not the fastest code, and no compiler will optimize this. But my arguments did not convince him. What would you tell a programmer writing such a code? Do you think complex condition is an excuse for using else if instead of OR?

  • How does Git know which Index blob to add to a tree?

    - by drozzy
In Pro Git Ch9 the author says: Git normally creates a tree by taking the state of your staging area or index and writing a tree object from it. My question is how does git know which of two consequitive index entries to create the Tree object from? For example: $ echo 'First change' > one.txt $ git add one.txt $ find .git/objects -type f .git/objects/1f/755a7fffe4 //first index entry $ echo 'Second change' > one.txt $ git add one.txt $ find .git/objects -type f .git/objects/2d/234asdf2 //second index entry $ git commit -a -m "Initial commit" $ git cat-file master^{tree} 100644 blob 2d234asdf2 one.txt //How did it know not to take 1f755?? Does it just look at the blob timestamps? Also - what happens to the first blob created - no one is referencing it. Does it just get destroyed or forgotten?
